Hey, my Tomoyo IS a 'Sakura's happy, she's happy' person. She just makes it very clear it is in Syaoran's best interest to KEEP her happy.

And Syaoran actually didn't need that much persuasion. Tomoyo does that because she's... well, your Tomoyo. [lol]waii

AHEM.

Back to topic... damn, thank small lucky stars that Youma actually didn't that smart. Or brave. They're, on individuals, actually not better than sectoids.

For whatever it's worth, my Tomoyo was under the influence of a brainwashing Villainous Harlequin psychopath at the time of her Yandere episode.

And yes. Youma by themselves are largely pathetic. Youma in groups (see the DD Girls in Chapter 12) are much, much worse. Youma in a mob... well, thank heaven for you-know-who's flair for dramatic, last-minute entrances, amirite? :D

I am 100% sure the ending of my fanfiction, Yuuko Magica, will make all of my readers gnash their teeth. Is this the excited feeling that Urobochi gets? Because if it is, no wonder he does this to us.

Random thought: A story about a 5-girl team of Magical Girls who are ALL Dark Magical Girls, each of a distinct flavor. One is the cold ruthless warrior type, another is ruthlessly amoral, another keeps trying to be a loner, one has an angsty past, and the last has some kind of mental disorder. Despite all odds, they manage to make a functional team, and even have camaraderie and respect, without ceasing to be Dark M Agical Girls.

Then the Sixth Ranger shows up.

She wears bright cheerful colors. She has no angst, no issues, mentally stable, has plenty of friends, has a light-elemental theme, is very friendly and is all about teamwork, yet respects their individuality.

Hilarity Ensues.

Hilarity Ensues isn't likely in a PMMM fic outside f crack. More like Drama Ensues. But otherwise, it works.

[up][up] Remove the comedy from that, and you have something that almost certainly would have occurred many times throughout history in the PMMM setting. (If you feel like coming to a few horrifying and depressing realizations, think about what World War II would have been like in the pre-Madokami setting.)

The "dark magical girls" weren't like that until they had to kill the witches of the last few cheerful sixth rangers. (And she thinks their individuality is why they won't meet her eyes when she talks about friendship and teamwork.) Want to get their team dynamic better than just "functional"? Try bringing in a competent therapist... preferably one with experience treating combat-related PTSD.

But yeah, I would totally read that.

WWII would be a setting for epic stories. Women and children, hence meguca candidates, would've been deliberately targeted in many instances. We probably would see wishes actively cancelling each other out, witches roaming behind the frontlines, and WPGNT-type events by the score. (The famous blizzard that stopped the German drive to Moscow in 1941, for instance, or the Channel storm in late June 1944 that nearly wrecked the Allied beaches.)

Shattered Skies Chapter 14 is now up!

All right. I've been deliberately holding back on the Madokaverse stuff until now... but starting with this chapter, get ready to see some familiar faces(?).

So, sending previous season mooks against veteran Magical Girl Warrior team apparently works like bringing sword to a gunfight.

Then Joker decides to drop dirty bomb, so to speak.

[up] Pretty much! I mean, to be fair, the mob of MotDs served its intended purpose, it did get the team back together in one place...

[up][up] We have a lot of examples in fiction where the guy with the sword wins that fight.

Yeah, but most of the time, the sword guy is cheating. Doesn't mean it's not cool, but still.

There's a Madoka crossover with Left Behind. Not sure whether to drop everything to go read it or to run screaming away.

I...don't really want to think about the thought process behind it. Surely ten seconds of thinking would tell you that's not going to go good places.

This is a very good song for Madoka.

Hell, one of the first notes (that shrill at 0:16) feels so much like Magia.

And also, the lyrics could perfectly describe someone's Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Kyubey.

It was you who ended their lives Made them to dig their own graves With your dark, sick, cruel design Convinced them their world could be saved

Have you no shame? Signing them up for your war Trained them to fight what they can't beat Your sins are what they'll pay for

One idea that's been percolating around in my head for a while (along with who knows how many others) is one that's...it's not a Souls (the game series) crossover, but it's more Madoka Magica by way of the Souls narrative style, I think? Or a Souls narrative with Madoka's setting and characters.

Mitakihara City is a long-abandoned urban waste, at least to the average human. To Magical Girls it's a place where the creatures of Despair run rampant and unchecked, barely even hidden from the world anymore - the greater Witches sit atop thrones of ruined buildings, their Barriers overlaid on top of the world, while below the streets team with the lesser Wraiths and Familiars. Literally nobody would go there, except to try and contain the horrors within (and die doing so), or just to die. And yet they do, because legends says that deep within, there lies a wellspring of power, the power of a vanished God that shaped the universe - and if you could find it, then you yourself could be a God.

So we have our protagonist, a nameless Magical Girl who journeys to Mitakihara for...unspecified reasons. I'm approaching this more from a game narrative standpoint than a written story narrative, and the ideas I have are more characters and setting than plot. They journey to the Labyrinths of Mitakihara, and there meet and become embroiled in what people who are (for the moment) still alive there, and learning about how it became the place it is - the Devil who tried to steal a Gods power, the three knights who protected the city until the creatures of Despair overwhelmed them.

Character ideas include:

  • The three legendary knights of Mitakihara - a trio of magical girls (known as the Labyrinthwalker, the Lightbringer, and the Faithfilled), who lived in the city from even before the God's power came to rest there, and whose fall heralded the city's.
  • A magical girl, so obsessed with staying human and far from despair that she scalps wisps of human souls from the creatures of Despair and other magical girls, fusing them to her soul gem in the quest to never lose her humanity.
  • A Witch with the mind of the Magical Girl she used to be, trapped between the two states and unable to lose herself to Despair, or return to what she once was yet able to understand both Hope and Despair in a way that no other can.
  • A magical girl, so delusional that even as she turns into a Witch, her Barrier is an idyllic memory of Mitakihara as it was before it fell, with her as its protector.
  • A pair of magical girls, who delved too deep and discovered where the God's power rests, and who now seek to preserve the status quo, killing anyone who might come close to finding it as well.
  • A young man, who looks after a house-turned-shrine where Despair seems unable to enter or find a foothold.
  • A small white creature, constantly trying to find the best way to leverage the situation so that it can save the world.
  • A ragged girl in a ripped-up-dress, ignored by the creatures of Despair and babbling about salvation for all.
  • A soft and kind girl with an earnest desire to find happiness and the killing instinct of a soldier.

The idea started with the idea of comparing the harvesting of souls to gain power in Dark Souls with using Grief Seeds to cleanse a soul in Madoka. In this, magic would be near-literally burning your soul to use it, while you'd use the soul bits harvested from Witches/Wraiths/Familiars to heal the burned parts, bring them back.

It's one of the many, many grand ideas that float around in my head and go nowhere, but I figured that it's at least worth sharing. Fun fact: Every one of those characters is a canon one from Madoka, if you can guess which are which (most should be pretty obvious, I think).

So pretty much exactly as it is in canon.

Honestly, MadoMagi done in the style of a Souls game would be really neat.

I agree.

I was thinking the same thing.

Story about Trans!Madoka.

Kyubey is a transmisogynistic little shit.

Homura is. Well. Homura.
