I'm pretty sure he's a synthetic of some kind. There's just something very unnatural about his facial marking and eyes.

That male Inquisitor (I'm going to call him Bruce) always strikes me as The Brute and a more shallow in terms of character than the last Inquisitor (who I'll name Issac). It's seems deliberate that they are trying to make a contrast between him and the more interesting ( especially if she's Barriss) female Inquisitor.

As for the species, it's quite odd. I feel as if this Inquisitor's race is familiar, but I cannot place my finger on it. Maybe it's because he looks Azog from The Hobbit or Lurtz from Lord of the Rings. Either way, he better have something memorable.

Maybe he'll surprise us all by being a Nice Guy and going Uncle Iroh on us, while Female Inquisitor Barriss or not Barriss is the Azula.

What? How is he less interesting? We haven't seen nearly enough to make that kind of judgment.

As in, he reminds me of an orc. More specifically, an orc trying to be civilized. Character-design wise, he doesn't strike me as interesting as Inquisitor Issac, who has a sense of class and eloquence in his design and personality. If he was a bit more war-like as seen with orcs from Lord of the Rings, I would have a different opinion. That said, he could surprise me once he's done more than just swing his lightsaber like a menace.

And it suddenly occurs to me that we don't know the official name of this Inquisitor. On the toy box description, he's just called The Inquisitor or a new Inquisitor or Inquisitor 2.0. Very odd. You think Filoni would start naming these Inquisitors so we don't get confused which Inquisitor we're talking about.

[up]The fact they haven't released names for the Season 2 Inquisitors means one of two things. Either like our first Inquisitor they don't have names (which I doubt because that would get a little confusing for the audience) or both their names reveal something real important about the new canon. For example, there is a real, real good chance the female Inquisitor is Barriss; giving out her name now could spoil a real wham! moment later on. If the male Inquisitor has a name like Seddris, Cronal, Snoke, Jerec, Tremayne, etc... that would be indicative of something big.

And I think the Season 2 Inquisitors are going to be a bigger threat then the Season 1 Inquisitor. This show does a good job of ramping up the villain response to hero actions. And the thing is we don't know how indicative of the Inquisitors as an organization Issac's was. He could have been average or below-average compared to rest (just like not every Jedi was in Obi-Wan, Mace Windu, Yoda or Anakin's league, a lot where just blaster fodder) for all we know. I doubt Filoni is going to have Vader dispatch a couple of goons that Kanan and Ashoka (who Vader knows about) can take out in five seconds.

[up] That actually loops around to a thought I had: in the old EU, Palpatine had a number of distinct Dark Side Cults/Organizations at his disposal; with Inquisitors simply being the highest ranking and tasked with hunting Force Sensitives. I am wondering if sending more Inquisitors after known, quantified threats rather than explicit specialists indicates that the Inquisition is the primary/only dark side organization in the Canon continuity. If there are no Emperor's Hands or Dark Side Elite, then maybe the Inquisition is an umbrella organization with different divisions taking on the roles filled by distinct Orders in the Old EU.

Working from that, Maybe the season 1 Inquisitor was primarily an investigator, with his direct combat roles concerning traps like in "Rise of the Old Masters". The two new Inquisitors could be analogous to Hands or Elites, focused on assassination/combat and much bigger physical threats-that would explain why Vader and Palpatine would be comfortable sending them instead of handling the situation directly. Or, you know, maybe we will find out the season 1 Inquisitor was a D- Student at best, and the New Order is sending the top of the class.

[up][up] I'm reminded of how Boba Fett didn't have his name revealed until Return Of The Jedi - the Empire Strikes Back simply labels him as the "Bounty Hunter" even though there were four other bounty hunters present in the film.

[up] Sometime sooner or later, we might finally see an Emperor's Hand Mara Jade expy. tongue

Except that's just the movies. His name was given in his first appearance (the Star Wars Holiday Special; yes, people watched it), and the toys for Empire. So his name was out there to be known, it just wasn't said in the film.

I'm not so sure that the new male Inquisitor is just a thug. He sort of looks that way, sure, but you'll recall that the Emperor instructed Vader to send a new Inquisitor after the rebels. So however it winds up that there's two of them, they probably can't be the Brains and Brawn duo that they seem to be.

[up] Vader probably hired another one behind the Emperor's back to speed things up - this is actually a proven tactic to increase efficiency at the cost of elevating Interservice Rivalry.

After going to through another (and quite frankly a snowball one considering the original topic was about who would possibly break Barriss into serving the Empire) debate about whether Barriss Offee is the female Inquisitor or not with the same person again, I have to wonder about people's stances on Fulcrum before she was revealed to be Ahsoka. I wasn't really into Rebels at that time (more interested in The Clone Wars), so I didn't exactly know what happen to the fandom when debating about Fulcrum. What was it like, and was it really a Captain Obvious Reveal as now claimed in hindsight?

[up] From the mark on Ahsoka's forehead used as Fulcrum's symbol, to someone clearing the distorting effect on Fulcrum's voice to reveal it's Ashley, and to small stuff like Hera replying "Who?" when Sabine asked her "Where's the guy?", yeah it was pretty obvious. There were people who hoped it was a Red Herring, but I don't think even they seriously thought it to be the case.

Something Star Wars-related that I may have asked in the past but I feel like asking again for clarification:

In the video game, Soul Caliber IV, Yoda and Darth Vader were Guest Fighters. I remember reading how people had issue with this because they were from space and all the characters were from ancient times. I personally thought it was really cool seeing them in this kinda game, but how did you guys take it?

[up] The only real jarring detail was that the Star Wars characters' lightsabers would simply slice through the others swords in Real Life - but hey, Rule of Fun wins any day.

I've been thinking about how they might do an Inquisitor Barriss, such that her dynamic with Ahsoka wouldn't be the exact same as Vader's would ideally be. Then I realized, maybe they'll emphasize her Knight Templar traits - that is, maybe she would still be completely convinced that she's doing the right thing, and that Ahsoka and the rebels are in the wrong / the evil ones who deserve everything that's coming to them (in contrast to most other Dark Side users, including Vader, who are well aware that they're nasty pieces of work imposing cruelty on the galaxy). She might Kick the Dog, but she would still consider herself a Noble Demon even if the others don't believe it.

It would give her a much more interesting characterization than what she would otherwise have as a more run-of-the-mill Inquisitor.

[up]I'm also hoping for this, although less because of her dynamic with Ahsoka, then because of the concept art showing her and Ezra. It would be interesting to see someone trying to convert him with a more principle-based argument then the standard "Power of the Dark Side" used by Inquisitor v.1. And it would also allow Ezra to potentially, in his rebuttal, contrast the flaws of the Old Jedi Order that an Imperial Barriss would likely bring up with the way Kanan is teaching him.

Also, it would just be interesting to have a Knight Templar Inquisitor in general, and while they could always invent a new character for that purpose, I think Barriss is kind of ready-made for it.

Again, it would be as simple as Barriss accusing Ahsoka of starting another war (which she is) and about being as bad as the Jedi were (which she's not). She could accuse Ahsoka of doing the exact same thing the Council was accused of
