I completely forgot that folders existed. I'll use one next time, thanks for the reminder.

I really do miss Arial already, her Sand Attack was what pulled me through the first gym battle after Gabriola just barely managed against Viola's Surskit. The fact that I'm straight-up releasing casualties instead of sticking them in a death box for all eternity like with my other Nuzlockes doesn't help with that. At least Corsiva's... Really amazing, actually. Dunno if she'll turn out to be a Crutch Character or not, but for now I have something good to work with.

Gotta say though, it's rather tempting for me to ignore the Snorlax I'll have to fight on Route 7 and call whatever I see first in the grass or flowers my first encounter rather than that, but at the same time, I don't want to outright break the rules. Loophole Abuse I'm fine with, but according to the rules, that Snorlax is my definitive first encounter if it's not Shiny. I'll probably end up catching the Snorlax and calling it my first encounter, but if I didn't, would anyone care too much if I made that exception? Just a thought.

Ok, forgive me for the double post, but I made some more progress in the Nuzlocke since last time (and I mean a lot of progress, I'm past Grant now). It's gonna be another long update, ladies and gents, but fortunately I know how to use folders now, so I won't be dumping an inescapable wall of text. Just a casual escapable one. It is damn wordy though, just a fair warning.

Illya "I'm in pain" Serif's Adventures in Kalos Volume 3: Rock-Type Ocean (No longer in a folder due to how I'm handling the Team Flare finale update)

After catching an Espurr (Seravek, female, Sassy) by the gates of Parfum Palace, Illya went inside the palace with Shauna (after paying admission, which is a thing for whatever dumb reason) and promptly got roped up into looking for some guy's Furfrou. She did, with much handholding on Shauna's part, and the two were rewarded with fireworks... In broad daylight. And also Illya stole a rare coin from the palace or something but don't tell anyone she did that.

On her way out, Illya was challenged to a battle by a Poke Fan Family. And their Furfrou got a lucky crit and killed Noteworthy. Yep, Infant Immortality has been tragically averted here, folks, but even so, there are still a few positives to come from this. For one thing, Seravek was drafted onto the team rather quickly, and for another, Gabriola evolved into Fletchinder while letting out her anger on some random sap's Pokemon. Even still, it bites to know I won't be able to use one of my favorite Pokemon in this run.

Getting back on track, I decided that I'd count the Snorlax as my first encounter for Route 7... Then I go and catch a Spewpa (Hobo Std, male, Rash) over by the Berry Farm, not realizing that was a part of Route 7 as well. I decided to say "screw it" and count the Berry Farm as its own separate location, and I went and caught the Snorlax (Impact, male, Impish) anyways. After that, Illya ran into Viola at the Battle Chateau, and was forcibly signed up as a member of the Chateau's nobility. Wanting to spite Viola for locking her in her gym's basement which is basically what she does in game, Illya immediately climbed to the rank of Viscountess on her first day... Which is probably what Viola wanted anyways. Eh, free money and experience anyways. Then Illya had a battle with Tierno and Trevor, backed up by Calum. It was boring and pointless and that's all I'll say.

After ignoring that completely, Illya caught a Meditite (Kefa, male, Bold) in Connecting Cave and a Drifloon (Sacramento, male, Modest) on Route 8, not realizing what she would soon meet. Illya's eyes met with a Rising Star's, and they fought. Bangers against the Rising Star's Axew, sounds simple enough. Then Bangers was brought down to 40 HP. And the Axew used Dragon Rage. And now Bangers is dead too. He was a damn good monkey, even if his name was kinda iffy, but in spite of that, he still proved useful.

The newfound lack of Bangers presented a problem to Illya, as the next Gym specializes in Rock Types and the only good counter left was Papyrus, who would not do well against Grant's Amaura no matter how you slice it. Bangers's spot on the team was taken up by a Helioptile (Voltaire, male, Jolly), but there was still the matter of not having a very good second teammate to take the second gym on with. I figured I'd cross that bridge when I came to it, and caught a Cubone (Baskerville, female, Mild), beat up the Elite Heat Agents (my nickname for Team Flare), and got a Jaw Fossil from some scientist guy, which was later revived into a Tyrunt (Astloch, male, Rash). Also, Calum was really stupid in the double battle we had against the two Flare grunts because he wouldn't just have his Espurr use Confusion on their Croagunk, instead choosing to have it use Covet on the Scraggy and do other dumb things. At this point I believe Illya's officially accepted the fact that Calum's an idiot and left him in the Glittering Cave to wallow in his own stupidity (I went back to Glittering Cave, he was still there).

Illya went on to break some rocks in Ambrette with Comic Sans's face, catching a Dwebble (Rock Salt, male, Relaxed) in the process. Upon reaching Cyllage City, Illya was given a free bike and went to buy some new clothing before tackling the issue of "I need another good counter to Grant". After catching an Eevee (Cookie, male, Impish) on Route 10 and a Luvdisc (Gill Sans, female, Docile) in Cyllage, Illya came to the conclusion that her best options were Vaporeon!Cookie, Gill Sans, and Baskerville. Since Luvdisc are worthless and she wanted to keep Cookie's evolution options open, Illya decided to draft Baskerville, and had her trained up to lv. 24 along with the rest of the team on Route 10... Then I remembered that Ground is weak to Ice and both of my counters to Grant were still weak to his Amaura, which was my problem in the first place. I decided to just do it with Papyrus and Baskerville anyways, and barring a close call with Baskerville against Amaura's Refrigerate-boosted Take Down, it went surprisingly well with no casualties.

After obtaining the Cliff Badge, Illya beat up some Team Flare members and evolved Seravek in the process before reaching Geosenge, a town filled with houses made of cardboard. Then Korrina challenged Illya to a battle with her two Lucario. And Baskerville was on the bench, meaning no super-effective Bonemerangs to trivialize the fight. Mistral and Seravek seemed to handle it pretty well, though, so a potential crisis has been averted! Following this victory, Illya biked all the way back to Santalune to pick up a fedora (and some TMs from Lumiose) and caught a Staravia (Savoye LET, male, Gentle) when she returned to take on Route 11. And that, my good fellows, is where this update comes to a close... finally.

So yeah, here's my currently rotating team:

  • Papyrus the Quilladin (male, Sassy nature, lv. 27)
  • Gabriola the Fletchinder (female, Impish nature, lv. 26)
  • Mistral the Charmeleon (female, Calm nature, lv. 26)
  • Corsiva the Furfrou (female, Timid nature, lv. 26)
  • Seravek the Meowstic (female, Sassy nature, lv. 26)
  • Voltaire the Helioptile (male, Jolly nature, lv. 26)
  • Baskerville the Cubone (female, Mild nature, lv. 27)
Deaths: 3 (Arial the Pidgey, Noteworthy the ironically unnoteworthy Budew, Bangers the Panpour)

Since I'm now using folders, should I make these notes into a bulleted list so that it's easier to read, or am I already making them long enough as-is even with the folder? Just wanna know what's more convenient.

It's easier to read paragraphs than a Wall of Text, that's a general thing. Bullets are better if you can condense things even further.

Hey everybody! Time for another big Nuzlocke update! It's gonna be another big one, but a little smaller because X and Y have very awkward pacing. And by "awkward" I mean "there shouldn't be a gap as small as two levels between gym leaders ever". I'm not even joking there, that's the gap between Korrina and Ramos. This might be another long one, but I don't think it'll be much worse than the last update. Hell, it might even be better, if I can abridge this well enough.

Illya "I'm in pain" Serif's Adventures in Kalos Volume 4: Wait, We're in Laverre City Already?

  • Baskerville evolved into Marowak during a minor grind session.
  • Caught Roboto (Mr. Mime, Female, Serious) during the trek through Reflection Cave. Since I wasn't feeling up to having another freak death, I stocked up on enough Super Repels to get me through the cave without running into any Wobbuffet.
  • After reaching Shalour City, Illya instantly made a beeline to Route 12 to see what she could catch. The end result? Times (Chatot, Male, Impish). Could've been a Slowpoke or a Pinsir or a Tauros, but no. It had to be a Chatot. I was not amused.
  • Illya ran into Tierno and Trevor on her way to the Tower of Mastery. Tierno brought up his battle with Illya on Route 5 where he killed Arial and suddenly things got awkward.
  • Illya met the Mega Evolution Guru in the Tower of Mastery and eventually, all her friends showed up. A battle between Illya and Calem (whose name I have been misspelling all this time) ensued, which was tough, but over quickly. Gotta give his Meowstic props for almost killing Gabriola, but things got trivialized once I brought in Corsiva since Corsiva's the tankiest poodle ever. ...Wow that's an Overly Narrow Superlative.
  • I decided to take on Korrina with Baskerville, Gabriola, and Seravek. I only needed Seravek in the end because she swept Korrina utterly.
  • I think we should all know how the Mega Evolution fight with Korrina went. Luckily, it went in my favor.
  • I let Herculanum (Lucario, Male, Hasty) join the team after he decided Illya was cooler than Korrina. Who am I to pass up a free Lucario anyways?
  • Calisto (Lapras, Female, Docile) also joined my team for free right after Herculanum, but she's benched indefinitely. Why have her as the designated Surfer when Voltaire can do just as good a job?
  • Calem rematched Illya in Coumarine City, hoping to see the power of Mega Evolution. He was wrecked without any Mega Evolution needed.
  • Caught Alegreya (Trapinch, Female, Serious) right outside of Coumarine in Route 13.
  • Caught Cambria (Mantyke, Female, Hasty) while exploring Azure Bay. Sucks that she'll never evolve unless I trade her over to another game, since I doubt I'll be catching a Remoraid anytime soon.
  • Went into the fourth gym with Mistral, Gabriola, and Herculanum. Ramos actually put up more of a fight than Korrina, even if Gabriola swept Jumpluff and Gogoat. The only reason I had Herc take over for Weepinbell was because Gabriola took a few hits from the foes she faced.
  • Gabriola evolved into Talonflame after the Ramos fight. She damn well deserved that evolution.
  • Route 13 was a pain in the ass but eventually, Illya got inside the Power Plant to fight Team Flare. They were a little tough in actuality since they had so many Dark-types and I had Seravek leading, but I managed. And also Mistral evolved into Charizard.
  • After some plot stuff, Illya went around Lumiose City doing cool things and beating up people in alleyways. Papyrus evolved into Chesnaught during these battles.
  • Illya conveniently forgot how her last restaurant experience went and had a meal at Restaurant le Yeah, where the whole staff is homicidal this time as opposed to just the waiter. She didn't do as well during the battles compared to her meal at le Nah, but she managed to reap an even bigger profit with no casualties (there was a close call on Gabriola's part though). And the question once again arises, why would any restaurant function in such a way that they lose more than $5,000 each time a customer dines there?
  • Took on Clemont with Baskerville, Papyrus, and Mistral. Why Mistral? Mega Charizard X turns er weakness to Electric into a resistance. After Baskerville swept the regular trainers, Mega Mistral did in Clemont's Emolga and Magneton, while Papyrus OHKO'd Heliolisk.
  • Voltaire evolved into Heliolisk and Corsiva got her first ever fur trim (I went with Kabuki). I then had Corsiva solo Calem because I could (if you want my headcanon reason, she did not like having her fur trimmed).
  • Caught Merriweather (Quagsire, Male, Relaxed) on Route 14.
  • Illya was dragged along by Shauna, Trevor, and Tierno to a lame haunted house thing where an old guy tells a spoopy story. It was lame and I wish Gen 6 had another graveyard tower like every other Gen but 2, but hey, it's not like I can do anything about that, is it?
  • Also Illya indulged in some local Laverre fashion after arriving at the town.

Yep, that's a lot, isn't it? As of right now, I'm about to do some training before I face off against Valerie. My currently rotating team's looking something like this:

  • Papyrus the Chesnaught (Male, Sassy, lv. 37)
  • Gabriola the Talonflame (Female, Impish, lv. 39)
  • Mistral the Charizard (Female, Calm, lv. 37)
  • Corsiva the Furfrou (Female, Timid, lv. 37)
  • Seravek the Meowstic (Female, Sassy, lv. 39)
  • Voltaire the Heliolisk (Male, Jolly, lv. 38)
  • Baskerville the Marowak (Female, Mild, lv. 38)
  • Herculanum the Lucario (Male, Hasty, lv. 39)
Deaths: 3 (Arial the Pidgey, Noteworthy the Budew, Bangers the Panpour)

Yeah, I'm just blazing right through this, huh? I would've posted an update sooner, but I haven't had the time (these updates take a while to write). I might have some actual trouble against Valerie since my only good counter for her is Herculanum with Poison Jab, but I've got faith that things will go well.

Hello everyone, I'm a longtime Pokemon fan and Nuzlocker (is that even an actual term?tongue).

In the past, I did a Nuzlocke run of Pokemon Y, and ended up having more fun with it than any of my previous ones. I loved imagining the roles and personalities of each new recruit, and I grew so attached to them that I did feel the emotional impact of having a valued party member die. I decided that next time I do a Nuzlocke run of this game, I would write a fanfiction alongside it.

And I started that project today. First chapter is still in progress of being typed, might write it all tonight, but here's the notes that I jotted down so I can remember what to write for Chapter 1:

  • Shara (protagonist) starts journey
  • Shara is introverted, always sounds somewhat tired, a Deadpan Snarker
  • Met Calem, Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor
  • Nicknamed “Madam Shara” since the nicknames they all came up with were trash.
  • Obtained Pokedex and starter Pokemon, Micaiah (Fennekin)
  • Micaiah: Bashful, loves to eat, acts rather shy often and has low self-esteem, apologizes a lot
  • Defeated Shauna and her Chespin with ease
  • Moved on to Route 2, encountered and captured Impish Pidgey who was dubbed Selena
  • Selena: Impish, scatters things often, constantly snickering maliciously, a natural trickster
  • Entered Santalune Forest with Shauna
  • Encountered and eventually captured Craven the Pansear who did nothing but spam Play Nice and Leer on Selena
  • Craven: Gentle, somewhat stubborn, prefers to solve conflict non-violently, leans towards what many perceive as cowardice
  • Lass near end of forest with Pikachu managed to paralyze both Craven and Micaiah, but Micaiah managed to get a one-hit K.O. with Scratch thanks to Craven’s excessive Leering
  • Group of trainers leave Santalune Forest together, bright line shining as they enter Route 3

Hey everybody! I've been busy since the last update! Both Nuzlocke-wise and in real life, though I still could've found time to post beforehand in spite of that last one. As it stands, I've gotten past the Team Flare arc. And that means a big update. Hope you've got your popcorn, because this update's getting two folders (which is something I can only manage by un-foldering the third update, sorry about that) to hold all the details! Without further ado, I present the next two chapters in Illya's story! Enjoy, my fellow Nuzlockers!

Illya "I'm in pain" Serif's Adventures in Kalos Volume 5: Bitter Cold
  • Illya took Herculanum, Gabriola, and Corsiva along to fight Valerie. The fight was pretty intense, and while Gabriola took care of Mawile and Mr. Mime rather easily, Herculanum could not withstand Sylveon's Dazzling Gleams even in Mega Form. Corsiva avenged Herc after a long battle, earning Illya one of the least creatively named badges in Pokemon history (seriously, the Fairy Badge?), but this victory was all the more hollow due to Herc's passing. And then Valerie had the gall to talk about how the sun rising tomorrow would be reason enough to smile... What utter tact you have, Valerie.
  • There's not much I have to say about Team Flare's raid of the Poke Ball Factory. Baskerville knocked out Calem's Meowstic during the fight with Bryony and Celosia, though, so that was funny.
  • Illya caught Tamil (Foongus, Male, Adamant) on Route 15 before going along Route 16 and catching Orbitron (Magneton, Hasty) in the Lost Hotel as well as ML Ginger (Phantump, Female, Impish) on Route 16).
  • Illya fished up Calibri (Alomomola, Female, Sassy) in Shalour City after obtaining the Super Rod. Nobody was happy.
  • In the trek through Frost Cavern, Gabriola was crushed by a Rock Slide caused by a Battle Girl's Mienshao. Even if she had the same typing as Mistral, and even if they both did fill the same niche, Gabriola's death was certainly a startling one.
  • Also, Illya caught Trebuchet (Piloswine, Female, Adamant). After Gabriola's death, this wasn't much of a mood-lightener.
  • Baskerville Bone Rushed Mable's Houndoom to death during the big Team Flare encounter. That's all I have to say.
  • Verdana (Snover, Female, Adamant) decided to join Illya on Route 17 after Illya saved her mother, the Abomasnow in Frost Cavern. Illya promptly boxed Verdana because 7 Pokemon is more than enough for one team.
  • Calem was utterly destroyed yet again in front of the Anistar City Gym. Man, he just can't catch a break, can he?
  • Illya took Voltaire, Seravek, and Mistral to do battle with Olympia. Shockingly, Voltaire ended up as the MVP, taking down Sigilyph and Slowking before Seravek almost got killed fighting against Olympia's Meowstic, forcing Mistral to take charge and take the other least creatively named badge right from Olympia's hands... In Mega form. But seriously, Psychic Badge? Did they try when they were thinking of badge names in this generation? I'm not even getting into the Bug Badge, by the way.

Illya "I'm in pain" Serif's Adventures in Kalos Volume 6: End of the World
  • Lysandre announced his plans to the world that he'd destroy all life. Because that's a smart thing to do when your plan's nearing completion, announce it to the entire world!
  • Illya busted into Lysandre/Team Flare Cafe and was surprised to meet Lysandre right at the entrance. What a surprise, meeting the Big Bad right at the entrance to his evil lair. At least he knew that his minions would be inadequate for the job of stopping Illya.
  • The first battle with Lysandre was pretty intense, all things considered. After Mistral took down Mienfoo, I sent Voltaire out against Gyarados, thinking that matchup would be over in a flash. Which it was. Not in Illya's favor, though. I had no idea that Gyarados had Earthquake, and at this point, I might as well confirm your fears: Voltaire bit the dust. Corsiva took over and defeated Gyarados and Murkrow, while Baskerville just barely managed to survive against Pyroar.
  • Illya welcomed Calisto the Lapras onto the team in Voltaire's stead, and got her up to level 48 by beating up the staff at Restaurant le Yeah.
  • There's nothing really special to say about the first floor of Lysandre Labs. Papyrus almost died to Celosia's Manectric, but that's about it.
  • Illya heard the tragic tale of King AZ from the man himself. The fact that he just launched into the story right at the start of the cutscene was actually rather jarring, but that doesn't stop him from being one of the best parts of the story. Though that really isn't saying much, if you ask me.
  • Illya fought it out with Team Flare's Head Scientist, Xerosic. While Calisto managed to defeat Crobat with relative ease, Malamar was another story, especially since it had Contrary. Mistral did her best to take it down, but in the end, Malamar got off a critical hit, and Mistral died, leaving Corsiva to avenge her. Mistral's death was probably the worst of the Nuzlocke, thus far.
  • Illya pressed the "Activate the Ultimate Weapon" button in the midst of her grief and rage. Xerosic still would've activated it if she picked the button clearly labelled "Don't Activate the Ultimate Weapon", but Illya honestly didn't care.
  • On a somewhat lighter note, Mistral had an egg with Astloch the Tyrunt before her demise. Sadly, their child Braggadocio (Charmander, Male, Gentle) will never get the opportunity to see his mother.
  • Illya accepted Orbitron the Magneton and Astloch the Tyrunt onto the team in preparation for the final battle against Team Flare. During their training session (which consisted primarily of them beating the crap out of the waitstaff of Restaurant le Yeah, one of Illya's newfound favorite pastimes), Astloch evolved into Tyrantrum.
  • Using Times the Chatot (the new designated Fly HM Slave), Illya flew over to Geosenge Town, famous for its cardboard houses and also a giant flower-shaped magical nuke launcher. Corsiva was decided upon as the teammate who would not be taken into Team Flare's Secret HQ (which was totally not a secret, by the way).
  • With Calem tagging along, Illya marched into the HQ, listened to Lysandre rant about his legitimately understandable motivations, and promptly punched him in the face for killing Voltaire. That's pretty much how the battle with him went, actually. Seravek and Orbitron cleaned up shop pretty nicely, although Calisto was almost killed by Pyroar.
  • On the way down to where Xerneas was being held, Shauna suddenly showed up and blabbered on about friends needing to stick together. Calem let her come along despite Illya's protests.
  • After Shauna used her magic puzzle-solving device to hack into a high-security electronic lock (because that's what puzzle-solving devices do I guess), Illya beat up a bunch of nameless Team Flare Admins.
  • With Orbitron's help, Illya caught Myriad (Xerneas, Naughty). She then elected not to have it join her team because for one thing, I don't like how they force you to catch the version mascot like in Pokémon Black and White when it makes no sense in this context, and for another, that'd just trivialize the last fight with Lysandre. Speaking of Lysandre...
  • The final Lysandre battle (on the surface of the sun for whatever reason) was no less intense than the first one, that's for sure. Mienshao managed to get a hit in on Seravek, even if Sera managed to land an OHKO. Then Astloch managed to set up a Stealth Rock on Lysandre before he fell to Pyroar's Dark Pulse, forcing Calisto to take care of Pyroar and avenge him. Orbitron took over for Calisto once it was clear she wouldn't be contributing much else to the fight with her injuries from Pyroar, and Honchkrow went down in a flash. Come Mega Gyarados, however... I forgot that the damn thing had Earthquake. Needless to say, even with the Eviolite, Orbitron also fell victim to Mega Gyarados's might. Then Papyrus went up to the plate, deciding that he'd had enough of seeing his friends die to the likes of Team Flare. After tanking a few hits of Mega Gyarados's Outrage, he one-shotted it with Seed Bomb.
  • Lysandre then threw a hissy fit because he couldn't kill everybody (because why stop at three when you can just cause mass extinction?), and he blew up Team Flare's HQ. The cardboard houses of Geosenge Town survived, thankfully.
  • With the world finally saved, Illya's friends all decided to continue on their journeys, leaving Illya to mourn alone. Then AZ showed up and ranted a bit about all he's lost, and he and Illya leveled with each other on all the crap they've been through.

I'll be putting the current team here because it's changed a lot since last time.

  • Papyrus the Chesnaught (Male, Sassy, lv. 53)
  • Corsiva the Furfrou (Female, Timid, lv. 53)
  • Seravek the Meowstic (Female, Sassy, lv. 55)
  • Baskerville the Marowak (Female, Mild, lv. 52)
  • Calisto the Lapras (Female, Docile, lv. 53)
Deaths: 9 (Arial the Pidgey, Noteworthy the Budew, Bangers the Panpour, Herculanum the Lucario, Gabriola the Talonflame, Voltaire the Heliolisk, Mistral the Charizard, Astloch the Tyrantrum, Orbitron the Magneton)

That one was a doozy, huh? Needless to say, Illya's been through a lot on her journey, and she hasn't even gotten all eight badges yet. I think I'll take a break on the Nuzlocke for a day or two, seeing as I not only have to finish a chapter of a fanfic, but the Pokémon Sun and Moon demo launches tomorrow, and I'm definitely trying that out. Wish me luck when I do get back to this, though!

So, I finished typing the prologue for that fanfic I mentioned that I'm doing alongside my current Y Nuzlocke. Half of the "Chapter 1 notes" ended up being much longer when I finally transferred them to writing, so I divided them and made this prologue. It can be read here. Feedback is appreciated.

[up]I've found that the stuff I've read shows great promise, good sir. Blimey, it's convinced me to take on a nuzlocke of mine in Emerald.

Speaking of... here's a wee list of what ensued, along with my rules:

The rules:

  • First catch is the only catch I can procure.
    • Exception: If the catch is of the same line, you get a mulligan.
    • Shiny Clause: If a shiny is encountered at all, you are free to catch it, but you can only use it if it is the first catch of the route (overriding dupes clause, so if you have a non-shiny Poochyena, and catch a shiny poochyena next route, tough luck! Have the shiny in your squad!)
  • Should a pokemon faint, it is to be put within the appropriate box to never be used again.
  • Similar story for shinies, except different box for the trophies.
  • White out at all? Defeat is had.
  • Clobber the Elite 4 and the champ and the bonus boss? Victory is had.

As for day one:

  • Started out on the journey, picking the torchic and naming him Copper (A little color theming here, and Brave is his nature.) and thwarted the dread Zigzagoon's attack on route 101.
  • Trained Copper up to L9, and decisively defeated Brendan
  • Went back to route 101 after getting pokeballs, and failing the first catch of the route (Wurmple at L2... not a good start for my nuzlocke if I goof like that.)
  • Went to Route 103, where I had tussled with Brendan, and caught Molly, a L4 Poochyena (Mild nature, and considering Emerald's before the split of physical and special attacks, this proved most fortunate.)

The team thus far:

  • Copper (L9 Brave Torchic male)
  • Molly (L4 Mild Poochyena female)

Casualties: 0

I already had this written up, but I accidentally deleted the entire Wall of Text, so... I'm at the Elite Four now and I need to train up a sixth party member! Yay! Here's my notes before the Elite Four!

Illya "I'm in pain" Serif's Adventures in Kalos Volume 7: Victory Within Sight

  • On Route 18, Illya caught Bernard (Durant, Male, Mild) and brought him onto the team. This was an amazing decision because Durant is a surprisingly useful Pokemon.
  • Illya went into Terminus Cave to get some cool stuff and caught Ayuthaya (Lairon, Male, Careful).
  • Baskerville died fighting a Black Belt's Toxicroak. Many tears were shed.
  • Cookie the Eevee joined the team in Basker's stead, evolving into Flareon and becoming this run's Eeveelution party member, which is sort of a Recurring Element in my Nuzlockes as it would seem. His predecessors were Robin the Jolteon from my Platinum run and Morgan the Vaporeon from my LeafGreen run.
  • Professor Sycamore fought Illya, and it was nothing special. He said he left something in Couriway Town for her, but she couldn't find anything.
  • Illya caught Wingdings (Shelmet, Female, Lax) and was not particularly impressed.
  • Shauna, Tierno, and Trevor showed up to fight Illya one last time. They were underwhelming and Corsiva, as expected, did a lot of heavy lifting, with Bernard and Papyrus being the only others who actually ended up doing anything. Hell, Corsiva soloed Tierno. She soloed him. Nice to see that Arial's been properly avenged.
  • After arriving in Snowbelle City, Illya went on a trip to Route 21 ahead of when she should've, catching Bangla (Ursaring, Female, Impish) but losing Calisto to an Ace Trainer's Crustle's Rock Wrecker.
  • Zapfino (Floatzel, Male, Modest) of Couriway Town took Calisto's place on the team.
  • In her hike through Route 20, Illya caught Monaco (Gothorita, Male, Calm)
  • After meeting Gym Leader Wulfric at the Pokemon Village, Illya caught Playbill (Zoroark, Male, Timid) and I got kinda excited because Zoroark's my favorite Pokemon.
  • The entire team was brought up to lv. 57 before Illya took on the gym with a team of Papyrus, Cookie, and Bernard. Cookie completely swept Wulfric's team in the easiest gym battle ever, earning her the last badge she needs to challenge the Elite Four.
  • Riding high from her victory, Illya's good mood came crashing down when a Veteran's Aurorus killed Zapfino. Merriweather the Quagsire ended up being drafted in his place.
  • Before entering Victory Road, Illya was challenged by Ace Trainer... Robbie Rotten!? And no, I do not apologize for that at all. The guy was actually named Robbie, and after watching too many We are Number One memes, I had to make some reference.
  • On the voyage through Victory Road, Merriweather was killed by a Lickitung. Yes, a Lickitung. Hey, it had Power Whip, don't judge my skills as a trainer!
  • Calem decided to face Illya one last time, not realizing that he's ultimately the inferior trainer. His Delphox did put up a decent challenge before Seravek took it down with Shadow Ball, but the rest? Not as good. Hell, Altaria didn't even land a hit on Bernard! Poor dragon-cloud-bird really felt the Bern. Yeah, I know Bernie Sanders isn't relevant anymore, does it matter?
  • The rest of Victory Road went by with nothing more than a few close calls. After Merriweather's release, Alegreya the Trapinch was deemed the best candidate for the 11th-Hour Ranger and thus drafted onto the team. She has yet to go through the standard Training from Hell each new recruit experiences, though.

The team as it is right now, before grinding:

  • Papyrus the Chesnaught (Male, Sassy, lv. 64)
  • Corsiva the Furfrou (Female, Timid, lv. 64)
  • Seravek the Meowstic (Female, Sassy, lv. 64)
  • Bernard the Durant (Male, Calm, lv. 65)
  • Cookie the Flareon (Male, Impish, lv. 64)
  • Alegreya the Trapinch (Female, Serious, lv. 26)
Deaths: 13 (Arial the Pidgey, Noteworthy the Budew, Bangers the Panpour, Herculanum the Lucario, Gabriola the Talonflame, Voltaire the Heliolisk, Mistral the Charizard, Astloch the Tyrantrum, Orbitron the Magneton, Baskerville the Marowak, Calisto the Lapras, Zapfino the Floatzel, Merriweather the Quagsire)

This Nuzlocke has officially surpassed my first Nuzlocke, Platinum, for highest death toll (albeit by one death, but Platinum's final casualty was against the champion when the end goal was to defeat or catch Heatran). I'm gonna have to put in some decent effort to get Alegreya up to a decent level before the Elite Four fights, which is not helped by the fact that I have a busy week ahead of me, so my hopes of finishing this Nuzlocke before Sun and Moon's release are likely not to be fulfilled. Oh well. Wish me luck against the Elite Four, guys!

Good luck.[tup]

My Nuzlocke has been doing well, I forgot to post some updates here. I'm all the way at Parfum Palace right now.

My team right now is:

  • Micaiah- Braixen, Level 18, Bashful Nature
  • Selena- Pidgeotto, Level 19, Impish Nature
  • Louie- Bibarel, Level 16, Timid Nature
  • Plato- Psyduck, Level 15, Docile Nature
  • Silio- Ivysaur, Level 16, Lonely Nature
  • Tarisha- Scraggy, Level 15, Naive Nature

Craven the Gentle Pansear and Luna the Docile Ralts are currently sitting in the PC box for now.

Nothing really of note happened, still no deaths, although Tarisha was encountered in a horde encounter that initially scared the bejeesus out of me. My current setup has me stuck with 2 water types and 2 psychic types, but since I know Grant will be the upcoming gym leader, I think that helps me a bit.

[up]I'll check that out later. I do love me a good Nuzlocke story. Hell, the reason I got into Nuzlockes is because I was hooked on all the comics people made, although I haven't read many written runs.

Ok, my grinding is done surprisingly early, and I've gotten everyone up to level 66. Before I go into the League, I'll post my team's current stats, moves, abilities, items, and what role I have them playing (they're all at max Amie level). Then when I'm done with the League, I'll post play-by-plays of my matches.

  • Papyrus the Chesnaught (HP: 213/Attack: 175/Defense: 194/Sp. Attack: 122/Sp. Defense: 130/Speed: 103)
    • Sassy Nature
    • Ability: Overgrow
    • Item: Quick Claw
    • Moves:
      • Seed Bomb
      • Brick Break
      • Spiky Shield
      • Bulk Up
    • Role: Bulky physical attacker. Aside from the two damaging moves, Spiky Shield's a good variant of Protect, and Bulk Up buffs Paps's best stats. To be used against Siebold, Wikstrom, and the champion's fossils.
  • Corsiva the Furfrou (192/121/107/111/144/178)
    • Timid Nature
    • Ability: Fur Coat
    • Item: Rocky Helmet
    • Moves:
      • Return (Max Friendship)
      • Charm
      • Cotton Guard
      • Dig
    • Role: Physical-leaning tank. She can take a Special hit or two, but with Fur Coat, Charm, and Cotton Guard, even Fighting-type Physical moves won't do much to her. She's my go-to answer when i have no idea who to send out. To be used against whoever I feel like she should.
  • Seravek the Meowstic (190/97/114/151/151/165)
    • Sassy Nature
    • Ability: Keen Eye
    • Item: King's Rock
    • Moves:
      • Psychic
      • Thunderbolt
      • Signal Beam
      • Shadow Ball
    • Role: Special attacker. Nothing more to say, she's got some good coverage. To be used against Siebold and champion's Hawlucha.
  • Bernard the Durant (171/185/151/90/82/182)
    • Mild Nature
    • Ability: Swarm
    • Item: Iron Plate
    • Moves:
      • X-Scissor
      • Iron Defense
      • Iron Head
      • Thunder Wave
    • Role: Another physical guy like Paps, this time with different coverage, Thunder Wave, and better speed. To be used against the champion's fossils and Gardevoir.
  • Cookie the Flareon (184/202/108/133/167/116)
    • Impish Nature
    • Ability: Flash Fire
    • Item: Black Glasses (I have no idea what else to give him)
    • Moves:
      • Double Team
      • Flamethrower
      • Bite
      • Flare Blitz
    • Role: Fire-type coverage. Just Fire-type coverage, I have little else for him to do, honestly. To be used against Wikstrom.
  • Alegreya the Flygon (191/193/117/119/113/178)
    • Serious Nature
    • Ability: Levitate
    • Item: Dragon Fang
    • Moves:
      • Dragon Claw
      • Sandstorm
      • Hone Claws
      • Earthquake
    • Role: WRECKING THINGS. I Super Trained the crap out of her, and she has 252 in Attack and Speed, along with 4 EVs sunk into HP. Sandstorm's also on her moveset for reasons. To be used against Wikstrom, Malva, Drasna, and the champion's Goodra and Tyrantrum. She's basically what I'm banking on to carry me through most of this.

What do you think, guys? It's time to face the Elite Four, so I'm not changing this team, but I have faith these guys'll carry me through. Here I go, folks. Here's to hoping nobody dies.

Looks good.

Furfrou is a Pokemon I often forget even exists.tongue

Is it any good?

Furfrou's a surprisingly good tank for in-game purposes. Fur Coat's a good ability, I got more use out of Baby-Dall Eyes than I would've expected before I replaced it with Charm, and let us not forget that I soloed Calem with good ol' Corsiva. Probably not the best of Pokemon to use considering all the other options, but hey, if I could win a Pokemon Showdown match with a Furfrou (although that wasn't my only teammate), I can vouch for it. I like it, and if that was reason enough to use Delcatty in my Alpha Sapphire Nuzlocke, that's reason enough for me to use Furfrou.

Hm, interesting.

I don't recall where to find one, but perhaps if the Random Number Goddess puts one in my way during this Nuzlocke I'll get to try it firsthand.

Ah, how unfortunate. Tarisha the Scraggy was already my catch for that route.

Oh well, maybe in a future playthrough. Or Sun/Moon, if I can get one there.

There's a double battle on the left-hand route just off of the Parfum Palace where both of the trainers have Furfrous. They are DANGEROUS.

I've still had no deaths, but I'm not even at the second gym yet. I recall things getting much harder to pull through with 0 faints starting with Grant.

Oh, also, random question (not sure whether or not this should be spoiled, not a plot point or anything); apparently Sun and Moon have "SOS Battles" in which a random wild Pokemon can call for allies much like Totem Pokemon have been shown to. In some cases, they can summon fully evolved version of themselves. You can find Bagon on the first island.

A wild Bagon can summon a fully evolved SALAMENCE on the first freaking island. Albeit, it's a Level 10 Salamence, but still. My question is, would summoned Pokemon from SOS battles be capturable by Nuzlocke rules if they are in your first encounter for an area, or no, since they're technically not the "First Pokemon you see".
