- Awesome Music:
- The acclaimed opening song of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, titled "Raise Your Flag", gets an SRW rendition for this game during one event, and it was glorious.
- One of the universally liked elements of Aldnoah.Zero (the rest were largely controversial) is the music, especially the first opening by Kalafina, "Heavenly Blue". It gets a violin-filled awesome SRW rendition that gives justice to the show and the musician.
- Amongst the new instrument pieces introduced in the game, one of the music accompanying certain SSR attacks is a very blood pumping electric-guitar piece. It was great enough that it was chosen as the accompanying music for the Transformation Sequence of the Getter Noir G units, and it doesn't lose epicness despite not being accompanied with the usual HEATS song.
- Catharsis Factor: Did Dark Brain and his extreme difficulty give you utter headaches in OG Gaiden? Well, he's the mid-boss for the Compatible Kaiser event, in which he's got utterly reduced difficulty and you can beat him over and over and get rewarded for it. He returns in one of the bi-weekly events featuring Compatible Kaiser again, and if you want, you can now one shot him to your own leisure (by choosing the lowest difficulty setting).
- Ensemble Dark Horse: While the Crossing Pilots are all liked, Lelouch vi Britannia in the Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion is practically universally beloved. What lets this stand out compared to Eiji Asuka in a blue Scopedog Custom, is that Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion merges Lelouch, one of the smartest strategists in mecha history with the Wing Gundam Zero, a Gundam that can allow the pilot to see the future and battle outcomes, resulting in an incredibly powerful combo.
- Fan Nickname: To differentiate between the default Mazinger Z and the Crossing Pilot Mazinger Z (piloted by Amuro Ray), the latter is often shortened as "Amu(ro)zinger".
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- The term "DD" likely reminded some fans of the franchise's fondness for bouncy chests and its Original Generation being a World of Buxom. Minutes after its announcement, a showcasing of a plastic model figure of Shatte Judevesten was Lampshaded by a panelist hovering his hand above its chest area and uttering something about "DD".
- Roughly three weeks later, Daimidaler the Sound Robot made its franchise debut in Super Robot Wars X-Ω, where male pilots must grope their female co-pilots' breasts to power up their respective Humongous Mecha.
- During the live-stream reveal of the game, the chat was filled with complaints about it being a mobile title and the counterpoint "Do you guys not have phones?", similar to what happened in the much reviled Diablo Immortal announcement at Blizzcon 2018 a few weeks prior, though it wasn't as caustic for DDnote .
- The staff for Neon Genesis Evangelion have stated in interviews that the show is basically their take on Devilman. Now with this, both franchises are part of the same game.
- Nightmare Fuel: DD might have been toning down the darkness that loomed in the world of Devilman. But it still doesn't miss the chance to include freakin' Jinmen as an opponent and adapting his nightmarish arc, including giving a mission where you are not allowed to even attack him because he's using the faces of the people he devoured (including Sachiko's) as a shield, or else it's Mission Failed for you.
- Shocking Moments: Characters piloting another character's canon unit is nothing new to the franchise, but only if they're from the same setting (Universal Century pilots can only use Universal Century "mobile suits", for instance)note , but Amuro Ray using Mazinger Z? DD really stepped up its game by breaking more ground; as a follow up, this event, known as "Crossing Pilots", became a recurring feature.
- The next character on the docket? Lelouch Lamperouge/Zero using a black-painted Wing Gundam Zero Custom called "Wing Zero Rebellion".
- For the most part, they tend to be Moveset Clone for the original machines, but the third event had Masaki Andoh using the Billbine...but not with the usual Aura Sword, but the Discutter (which would look like a BFS when wielded by an Aura Battler), so it wouldn't be too similar with normal Billbine.
- And then the fourth crossing pilot event happens. It turns out that Voltes V will be piloted by the Mithrill crew! Complete with Sosuke actually quoting all of Voltes V's attacks!
- Asuka piloting Shin Getter alongside Shinji and Rei as her sub-pilots was something fans expected. What fans didn't expect is that Asuka uses Shin Getter to power up the Positron Cannon.
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: With a character as iconic and completely out of left field as Pac-Man being added in December 2021, you'd think there would be a storyline associated with him similar to what Zenkaiger got, but all Pac-Man gets is a mission involving a wave of Mooks before he joins the roster with no dialogue from anyone else.
- Unexpected Character:
- Devilman - B.B. Studio is no stranger to human-sized characters via Tekkaman Blade in Super Robot Wars Judgment, Detonator Orgun in Super Robot Wars W, Iczer in Super Robot Wars L and, to some extent, Space Sheriff Gavan in X-Ω, yet they had elements of Mecha in them via Powered Armor. The titular Devilman is an organic, human-sized heronote , but feels more at home in a Shounen setting. Devilman being penned by Mazinger creator Go Nagai, whose series is a staple for this franchise, and Nagai having a direct hand with Banpresto in the past with Mazinkaiser, might be the reason for its inclusion in DD.However
- When it came to including Devilman characters other than the title protagonist, there were the usual suspects fans came to expect like Sirene and Kaim. However, even with the story following the events of the manga, fans were still surprised by the inclusion of Jinmen.
- While the overall World 5 was unexpected since B.B. Studio didn't explicitly state they were adding more series to the roster post-launch, the one that takes the cake is the return of UFO Robo Grendizer: long has there been rumors/news that Go Nagai didn't want to put Grendizer and Mazinkaiser in the same setting to avoid debates of "Which is stonger?" when both are the most powerful robots in their respective continuities, but DD has quashed the notion, giving both units a second chancenote at appearing together (albeit coming from different worlds).
- The above Shocking Moments. After reading it, just imagine this: By the time of the announcement, Lelouch was the newest pilot to be introduced, and Endless Waltz wasn't even part of the original roster. You'd think that it's the older, earlier put series that got the treatment, but nope! They went ahead and give the newcomers the Crossing Pilots spotlight.
- Pac-Man being bought in as a special guest for a limited time. Yes, they invited him. What's more, he'll be piloting the Super Robot Chogokin figure based off of him.
- The October 1, 2021 Event brought in a surprise by adding in Mekibos piloting his Graterkin as an enemy unit, as he wasn't advertised to be in like Irm with Grungust, Asuka with Eva Unit-02 and Saki with Valvrave IV Carmilla were. This is especially notable with Graterkin, which doesn't have nearly as many appearances in the series (Only Super Robot Wars 3 and Super Robot Wars Original Generation 2, as well as Super Robot Wars Original Generations since that's a remake of both Original Generation and Original Generation 2) as its upgrade Graterkin II.
- The original Betterman being added into the roster catches everyone off guard because it wasn't even that overly announced, and everyone's attention at the moment were mostly directed to Super Robot Wars 30 where Betterman was included in a capacity.
- In April 2023, the newest character that was added to the Super Robot Wars: Original Generation reward map was Latooni Subota, an Ensemble Dark Horse in Original Generations. What makes this doubly unexpected is that she's piloting the Fairlion-S,note implying a future update will include Shine Hausen and the Fairlion-G in some capacity.
- In August 2023, Raideen returns. It may look 'expected' for a classic series to return, but for a majority of SRW fans, for a long time, they stuck with a belief of "Ever since Super Robot Wars Z, Bandai Namco cannot use a series that has the voice of Akira Kamiya because of concern of his advanced age and strained throat from too many Hot-Blooded yells in the past, and there's a certain contract that forbids even his pre-recorded voice to be used willy-nilly." Even Kamiya confirming with Takanobu Terada that this rumor is fake didn't really destroy it for good. Therefore, Raideen's return becomes unexpected for those who believe this rumor, because they didn't expect Bandai Namco to actually debunk the rumor for good.
- While many figured that Bang Brave Bang Bravern! was going to appear in a Super Robot Wars game at some point, most did not expect the series to show up in DD while the anime was still on-going. note
