YMMV tropes for members without their own pages and the group in general:

  • Accidental Innuendo:
    • Their Golf with Your Friends videos are rife with these, with all the talk about balls and getting in holes and such.
    • Ethan has acknowledged in his Guts and Glory videos how "doing wheelies" sounds like "doing willies" when he says it.
  • Awesome Music: All of the Sidemen use great, catchy music in their videos. Most of it can be found on a playlist such as this one.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Harry, for the fact that he was already famous before the Sidemen, and doesn't participate in the Sidemen's published gaming sessions as much, thus he is seen as simply only attached to the Sidemen to make use of his popularity. He doesn't even participate as much in the Sidemen's FIFA events and tournaments any more, with Calfreezy usually taking his place in them. Although he still occasionally pops up in Cards Against Humanity and GTA, his collaborations with the Sidemen are mostly non-gaming videos and public appearances. He eventually cleared his name through Sidemen Sundays and Saturdays, however.
    • JJ had this mantle as well, as he was largely absent from Sidemen gaming sessions for much of 2014/15. He returned to regularly gaming with them in August 2015, but then he would leave the group two years later... only to come back within a few weeks, which led to some fans and YouTubers (most notably Joe Weller) believing that this "departure" was all a ruse for publicity.
    • People tend to find Ethan and his laugh either infectious or just flat-out annoying. Combined with the fact that he's quite temperamental, there's hardly a middle ground with him.
    • Some say Tobi's nicer demeanor makes him more likable, while others see him as an unappealing member of the gang.
  • Broken Base:
    • Previously over, of all things, the surnames of Josh and Tobi. Edit wars have happened on the Sidemen Wiki over whether their respective last names are Zerker and Lerone (as the two say they are), or Bradley and Brown (as some random anonymous commentator who claimed to have known them from their school years said, which another wiki user did some research to confirm this). This has eventually died down as more evidence confirmed that, yes, their last names are Bradley and Brown; the latter eventually fessed up and now acknowledges it, while it took the former a long time to eventually admit it.
    • The fanbase is considerably split over Golf with Your Friends because games can sometimes turn into everyone relentlessly trolling each other. A prime exhibit is this video from Simon, which got an uncharacteristic number of dislikes (over a thousand, in fact) because people didn't like his and Josh's relentless trolling.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: A lot of their humour. The Sidemen Sunday sub-series Sidemen Tinder in Real Life and 20 Women vs 1 Sidemen are especially notable for all the risqué things they say to the women appearing in them.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Basically everyone has their own unique following within the fanbase, but the biggest Sideman that fits this trope is probably Simon. He may not be the most subscribed member of the group, but as evidenced by the results of these two fan polls, he is many fans' favourite Sideman.
    • If the 2017 Sidemen Charity Match is to be believed, Vik is the most requested Sideman ever.
    • Some of their most popular videos are their Hide and Seek videos, of all things.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • With the shocking news of Minecraft YouTuber LionMaker having a pedophilic relationship with a teenager, the joke of Vik being a pedophile is a bit sour in some's mouths.
    • In "Sidemen React to Top 5 Karens", a video is featured where a woman calls the cops on a guy for repeatedly calling her "Karen". Josh's joke from the video about how the guy "could have murdered someone" is a lot less funny after the guy ended up murdering the woman's husband.
    • "Sidemen Family Fortunes" is this in spades, given that Randolph jokingly calling Deji's channel "dead" ultimately led to the infamous and serious brother beef between Deji and JJ that ran for several months. In other words, a game of Family Feud led to an actual family feud.
  • Heartwarming Moments: See here.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In 2018, in the "Sidemen Silent Challenge" video, JJ wore a red wig, and he liked it. Two years later, he dyed his hair red.
  • Ho Yay: In bucketfuls.
  • Memetic Badass: Lord Bendtner.
  • Memetic Molester: The joke of Vik using his Minecraft channel to get 12-year-olds.
  • Memetic Mutation: Has gained enough to warrant its own page.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: A lot of people like Simon's laugh, seeing it as one of his most adorkable traits.
  • Nausea Fuel:
  • Never Live It Down:
    • JJ's rapping. It started with his verse on Sway's "No Sleep", which the rest of the group wouldn't let him hear the end of it for over two years. Then it was the "Vroom, vroom" line in JJ's own "Lamborghini". Now, it's the "Can you, can you keep up!" line in "Keep Up".
    • Simon's admission that he jerked off on his self-balancing scooter/"hoverboard" (or "swegway") has become one for him.
    • The Running Gags of Vik being called a pedophile or terrorist have grown to the point where they've basically been immortalized in his persona, and are the quickest routes to take when a card needs to be made with a joke about Vik. Ethan has been added to the pedophilia jokes in more recent videos.
    • Ethan's Wembley Cup fall.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Josh's hiding place in the Hide and Seek in the Sidemen House Video is pretty unsettling. Multiple candles around the floor, it’s very small, pretty damn dark and has one door that can be opened at any time. It’s creepy as hell.
  • Periphery Demographic: Like you wouldn't believe. Despite their edgy, at times off-colour and generally inappropriate humour, much of their audience are preteens. This makes videos captured of some their live shows really awkward to watch, as the crowd is literally almost all kids. In fact, having such a periphery demographic came back to bite them years later when KSI used a racial slurnote  as a Countdown answer in an April 2023 Sidemen Sunday video; although the slur was censored, KSI speaking it and the panel's shocked laughter were widely criticised not only for the slur in of itself, but also trivialising the extremely hurtful nature of the word to their younger fans.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name:
    • "Emon" for the Faux Yay pairing of Ethan and Simon.
      • "Emosh" for the three-way pairing of Ethan, Simon, and Josh.
    • "KSImon" for the pairing of JJ (KSI) and Simon.
    • "Minizerk" for the pairing of Simon (miniminter) and Josh (Zerkaa).
    • "Minishaw" for the pairing of Simon and Harry (wroetoshaw).
    • "Vikkminter" for the pairing of Vik (Vikkstar) and Simon (miniminter). Alternately, there's "Vimon" (Vik and Simon).
    • "KSIJZL" for the pairing of JJ and Tobi (TBJZL).
    • "Vobi" for the pairing of Vik and Tobi.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Although it didn't last, KSI's departure from the group in August 2017 came as a shock to the fans at the time.
    • The announcements in late 2018 that the four Sidemen living in the Sidemen House (Vik, Josh, Simon, and JJ) would all be moving out into their own flats in Londonnote  by early 2019 was upsetting to the fanbase, since it meant that (save for Simon and JJ) none of the group were living with each other anymore and they no longer have a true central location for the group to do videos together. They thankfully denied that they were disbanding the group, however, and the Sidemen have remained extant as of 2022.
  • The Scrappy:
    • People did not enjoy Ethan in the Sidemen's Monopoly videos. It got to the point where, on any given video with Ethan in it, most of the comments would be asking the group to take Ethan out and/or replace him.
    • Harry in his earlier time in the Sidemen for not being part of their activities as much outside of FIFA and conventions. There was also a No True Scotsman mentality against him as the only non-original member (although Vik actually wasn't a founding member himself either).
