Gloria's House is a children's animated television series produced by Energee Entertainment and Your Family Entertainment (then known as RTV Family Entertainment AG). It is an Australian-German co-production.

Gloria's House is the messiest house in a street full of perfect homes but it's a lot more fun than any of the other squeaky clean places in Chillsville. It stars Gloria and her equally eccentric family—her inventor father Wazza, her mother Molly, her older sister Notta, her younger brother Beat, and the family's long-suffering house cat Bill. Also starring are their insufferably posh neighbours where Millicent "Millie" Perfeck resides and the two strike an Odd Friendship despite their families and themselves being total opposites.

Provides examples of:

  • Abhorrent Admirer:
    • Rodney to Notta. To Notta's credit, she only really dislikes him if he's especially annoying but appreciates him when he proves helpful to her. It's subtly implied that she might like him back if he weren't so thickheaded.
    • Ironically, Rodney has one as well from a girl named Leticia. It's obvious that he doesn't like her back, but she's more insistent and is even prone to jealousy when Rodney talks about Notta.
  • Aerith and Bob: Gloria compared to her siblings Notta and Beat. Her parents are a straighter example, Wazza and Molly.
  • Animals Lack Attributes:
    • Zig-zagged with Gloria's cat Bill, who has a visible anus drawn as an 'x' at all times, but lacks genitalia despite being a tomcat.
    • Majorly averted in "Home Sweet Home" when Millicent mistakes a bull for a cow when it turns out its large pink udders is actually the scrotum.
  • Bookworm: Notta always has her nose in a book.
  • The Bully: Millicent becomes this Depending on the Writer if a given episode has her as an antagonist.
  • Cheerful Child: Gloria is a very happy girl.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Gloria's dad, Wazza. How else does he come up with his wacky inventions? The entire family, really, but he just happens to take the cake.
  • Cool House: The titular house which contains a lot of complicated mechanics controlled by pulleys, levers, cranks, and what have you. Of note is an improvised lift built inside an old furnace to access the upper floor, and that's only the most mundane part of the house.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Gloria's mum has a knack for adding weird flavours in her food, such as a sauce that contains fish and chocolate for example. Despite this, the family loves her cooking. So it's either they have a Bizarre Taste in Food or Molly is just that good of a cook since it is shown that she's pretty good at cooking in general when she doesn't experiment. In "Food Gloria's Food", it seems to give credence to the latter because Millicent is seen asking for Molly's baked bean and chocolate sundae cake and all the other kids seem to like the snacks she makes as well.
  • Country Mouse: The Nits, who are seen packing it up for the big city in the pilot episode.
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: Millicent is already a very shrill girl, but it gets worse when she doesn't get her way which is...more often than desired.
  • Dodgy Toupee: Barry Perfeck wears a very conspicuous blonde hair piece.
  • Disabled Means Helpless: This is dealt with in "Wheels" when the Perfecks try too hard to assist the titular Wheels (real name: Peter), Millicent and Rodney's cousin, during his visit. Naturally, Wheels finds this offensive and calls them out on it. Fortunately, the Perfecks realise their mistake and back off a little. Of course, he still makes a point that he does need a bit of help at times since he could be seen struggling at one point to get through the door due to a raised platform.
  • Dumb Blond: Rodney Perfeck is a male example, who is none too bright and speaks in a deep bumbling voice.
  • Dumb Is Good: Rodney is the least smart but also the nicest member of the Perfeck family. Although he could only be acting nice towards the Nits out of his personal interest in Notta, the eldest child, it's shown that he genuinely does not hold any negative feelings towards the family at all.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Dorothy Perfeck does not like being called "Dotty." That doesn't stop Molly or Wazza though.
  • Every Episode Ending: Gloria, at night, going up to her special place—a balcony outside the window—and reminiscing the episode's events with her cat Bill, who in turn has an imagine spot relating to earlier scenes involving him.
  • Fun-Hating Confiscating Adult: Dorothy takes this role in "Food Gloria's Food" when she forbids the selling of sweets and other such snacks from the tuck shop. She and Molly were able to make a compromise when it's discovered that the burgers Molly have cooked were made of lentils, encouraging her to revoke some of the restrictions by selling the old snacks alongside Molly's healthy but surprisingly delicious burgers.
  • Generation Xerox: Molly and Dorothy have a rocky but also close friendship that repeats itself in their kids, Gloria and Millicent.
  • Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: In addition to being into ballet, Millicent is also shown to love listening to rock music which she keeps it a secret from her mother.
  • Hime Cut: Millicent's hairstyle seems to be a rare example for a Western cartoon that is completely accidental, right down to the straight sidelocks dangling down her head which remains even when her hair is done up. Millicent also comes from a relatively upper-class background (compared to Gloria's family, that is) which evokes an Ojou of the Rich Bitch type.
  • Homemade Inventions: Gloria's House is full of these, mostly to assist in chores and other miscellaneous tasks, even something as small as putting butter on bread.
  • Inspirationally Disadvantaged: This is averted in the episode's treatment of Wheels in his titular episode. He is mentioned to be a champion swimmer, but that's because he's always been somewhat of an athlete before he got confined to a wheelchair. The fact that his paraplegia is caused by an accident rather than being born with it also makes his athleticism have some sense rather than having some contrived miracle explain it. It's also balanced out by showing his struggles over things that able-bodied people may take for granted, such as sitting at the dinner table.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Millicent is prone to acting nasty, especially to Gloria who she often makes fun of for how strange she is as well as her family. But she does consider her an actual friend and when she does something really bad, she feels guilty and eventually apologises.
    • Even Dorothy has her own dawning moment, such as in "Coming Clean" when she saw that Molly has injured her leg whilst doing chores in the yard and is later seen cooking dinner for the Nits since Molly cannot do so. She's too proud to admit it, but it's obvious she still has kind regards for her old friend.
  • Love at First Sight: In the pilot, Rodney Perfeck immediately falls head over heels for Gloria's older sister Notta.
  • Men Can't Keep House: In "Coming Clean" Molly is incapacitated by an injury and Gloria and Notta are at a camping trip, which leaves Wazza and Beat to take care of cooking and cleaning. And they are utterly hopeless at it. Once the girls return from the trip, they prove to be more competent.
  • Nouveau Riche: The Perfecks are implied to be as such but, even then, they're not that wealthy; just upper-middle class. Still, Barry and Dorothy act very uppity, and their daughter, Millicent, is a Spoiled Brat, though she has moments of Spoiled Sweet due to being Gloria's friend.
  • Odd Friendship: Gloria, who is a bit of a bumpkin, befriending the very posh Millicent.
  • Only Sane by Comparison: Notta. She tinkers with experiments and has a knack for inventions, not unlike her father. She just happens to be more soft spoken and keeps to her self most of the time, making her seem like the most normal out of the Nit family.
  • Phrase Catcher: Whenever Wazza's inventions go awry, the kids have a tendency to say "nearly there, Dad."
  • The Pig-Pen: Beat receives complaints from his neighbours about his smelly feet. He doesn't seem too keen on cleaning up after himself either since his room is full of rubbish.
  • Protagonist Title: The title mentions Gloria, and the house she and her family reside in.
  • Pubescent Braces: Rodney has braces on his front teeth, presumably to correct his overbite.
  • Punny Name: The Nits, which bring to mind lice eggs especially when the Perfecks refer to them in an exasperated tone. Speaking of the Perfecks, their name is one letter away from...well, you get one guess.
  • Redhead In Green: Gloria wears a green jumper to compliment her red hair. Her mother Molly, also a redhead, wears a green shirt.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Notta looks absolutely gorgeous when she shows up all dressed up with her hair done for the school formal in "Notta Date". She even takes her glasses off for the first time, though she does put them back on.
  • Simpleton Voice: Rodney's voice is played like this to an extreme degree, adding to his slow nature.
  • Slice of Life: It deals with Gloria's various adventures throughout the city with side plots focusing on other characters.
  • Slobs vs. Snobs: A bit of the premise is also this with the rural-born and humble Nit family at odds with their neighbours, the city-dwelling and ostentatious Perfeck family. The Nits themselves aren't exactly unhygienic, but their house is in a constant state of mess, making it a fair nuisance to the Perfecks who complain that it decreases the property value.
  • Strong Family Resemblance:
    • Gloria and her siblings have facial features that take after both their parents, particularly their noses. A flashback also shows that Gloria is a spitting image of her mother as a child.
    • Millicent and Rodney also take after their parents in some capacity, especially the latter who looks like a skinnier and less intelligent version of his father.
    • Peter, aka Wheels, a relative of the Perfecks looks quite a lot like his cousin Rodney, except more handsome and with a physique due to being a champion swimmer. And yes, that's despite the fact that he's in a wheelchair.
  • That Poor Cat: Gloria's cat Bill is always in a jam of sorts who is not used to the city and constantly longs for a quiet life back in the country.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Gloria and Millicent respectively. Gloria is a very active girl with a boisterous personality while Millicent partakes in more refined interests like ballet though she's far from soft-spoken (and has a hidden interest for rock and roll).
  • Unwanted Glasses Plot: In the episode "The Fine Print", this is inverted when Gloria learns that she's been failing school because of an onset of poor eyesight and is immediately open to having glasses so she could pass the oncoming test. The classic Snap Back occurs in the next episode when we see her not wearing them anymore, though it could be argued that she only needed reading glasses and is otherwise not recommended for her to wear them all the time.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Downplayed. It turns out that Dorothy Perfeck is actually Molly's childhood friend whom she remembers as Dotty. Although Dorothy is quick to deny that they knew each other, Molly still considers her a friend of sorts, holding no ill will against her despite the Perfecks' cold reception of them.
  • You Are Fat: Beat is usually a target for this type of insult, mainly from Millicent.
  • Youthful Freckles: Gloria, as befitting of a Cheerful Child.
