Hues of Metal is a series of skits made by kkirby999, featuring various Sonic robots in various silly situations. The series can be found here.

Present Characters for this series:

This series contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Name Change: Silver Sonic (the one from the 8-bit version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2) is named "Prototype" here, as revealed in "Oil".
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Metallix is a little nicer than his Super Mario Bros. Z incarnation in that he gets along pretty well with the other Metals and Mechas, though he is somewhat of a Sitcom Archnemesis with Mecha Sonic Mk. II in reference to how Metallix replaced Mecha Sonic in the SMBZ reboot.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Most of the Metals don't have their own personalities. kkirby went out of their way to give each a distinctive personality: Metal Sonic is a Lovable Sex Maniac, Silver Sonic (who is called Prototype here) is The Baby of the Bunch, Mecha Sonic Mk. II is the Token Good Teammate in reference to his portrayal in the IDW comics, and Rocket Metal acts like a stereotypical Australian. Neo Metal Sonic himself acts like a stereotypical French person.
  • April Fools' Day: 2024's April Fool's Day had a video upload known as "Hoes of Metal". However, compared to what the audience may think is going to happen, the video just consists of the main six collecting different Minecraft hoes from a table, Rocket FINALLY seeing what a hoe is. And after Metal has collected his (complete with a speech calling out the audience for thinking different), the video ends with a Dancing Banana showing up, speaking in a posh manner before exploding.
"What'd you expect from a video called "Hoes of Metal"? All six of us twerking? Sickos."
  • Arch-Enemy: While Sonic is generally this to the cast, Metal Sonic gains a new one in the Relief wall from "Dum Dum", especially after Metallix finds the fact the wall thinks Metal's name is "Dum Dum" is Actually Pretty Funny.
  • Art Shift: "Bogos Binted?" ends with Prototype turning into its 8-bit form, freaking out Metal.
  • BFG: Prototype wields a rocket launcher as big as the bot itself.
  • Big "NO!": All of the Sonic robots in "Obligatory Boo Meme" scream "Tails Doll! No!" when the doll is about to blow up the Dancing Banana.
  • Blowing a Raspberry: "New Ability" has Metal doing this to Silver, because Metal has a tongue now.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Most of the cast is this.
  • Curse Cut Short: When Silver Sonic mentions that a a certain web series isn’t canon, Metallix can only say this before vanishing:
    Metallix: “Shii..."
  • Decomposite Character:
    • Rocket Metal and Neo Metal Sonic, each forms of Metal Sonic, are instead their own separate characters in this series.
    • It may also count with Metallix, as he himself is Metal Sonic after he used parts from Mecha Sonic Mk.I and Mk.II to upgrade himself. Here, Metallix and his components (Metal Sonic, Mecha Sonic Mk.I and Mecha Sonic Mk.II) are separate characters.
  • Expy: "You lied to me, Phil!": Phil the Eggrobo acts in a similar manner to Goofy, right down to having the iconic Goofy yell when Prototype blows him up.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Instead of waiting for Metallix to properly calculate how many of their dancing bananas it will take to make a geyser, Mecha decides to just use all of them. The explosion makes a geyser alright... one that is taking the robots towards the sky to Mecha’s horror.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: In an attempt to convince Prototype that leprechauns aren't real, Mecha Sonic tells him that the leprechauns are actually midgets and that the Mall Santa was actually their coworker Phil. Not only this doesn't convince Prototype, but it also drives Prototype to blow Phil up, much to Mecha's shock.
  • Grenade Hot Potato: "Think fast, chucklenuts!" is about the robots throwing a dancing banana at each other before it explodes.
  • I Have Many Names: In "Disappear", Silver Sonic / Mecha Sonic Mk. I / Robo Sonic / Carl vanishes because people don't know what to call him.
  • Idiot Ball: Metallix, who’s usually more down to earth, grabs it in “Gardening With Metallix” as he decides the best way to garden is to shoot the plants with a mini gun.
Metallix: "They're gone! They have ceased to exist! Observe the genius of my gardening!"
  • Irony: In "Stop Chewing So Loud", Mecha Sonic Mk. II stands up to defend Yoshi. This could also count as Hypocritical Heartwarming on Mecha Mk. II's part.
  • Lampshade Hanging: When Mecha Sonic Mk. II tells Metallix he's buying clothes, Metallix points out none of the Metals wear any clothes (in fact, the only character that appears in this series and wears clothes is Sage). Mecha then explains he's buying clothes for his girlfriend.
  • Let Me Get This Straight...: Metallix, in "Eggman Needs Sonic Dead" tells the audience about a bizarre plan to kill Sonic. Eggman needs Sonic dead, but Eggman, not wanting to do it himself, sends Metal Sonic to do it. Metal doesn't want to do it either, so he sends Mecha Mk. II, who sends Prototype, who sends Phil the EggRobo, who sends an army of Motobugs. Later, when Mk. II has a chance to kill Sonic, he kills Prototype, the guy he sent to kill Sonic.
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Metal Sonic is often seen wanting to get laid. He does end up get laid with the Flame Princess in "Fire", much to Metallix's confusion.
Metal Sonic: "I'm in the middle of having sex with that fire girl from Adventure Time. This better be important."
  • Made of Explodium: Dancing bananas are this, to the point "dancing banana" became an Unusual Euphemism for "bomb".
  • No-Sell: In “Obligatory Boo Meme,” everyone can only look at the "BOO" sign in horror... Everyone expect Tails Doll, who presses the button next to it to summon a Dancing Banana.
  • Official Couple:
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: After Mecha Sonic Mk. II gives his advice for finding a partner, Metallix has some "advice" of his own.
Metallix: Six words: Do. Not. Get. Into. A. Relationship.
  • Repeat What You Just Said: In "Attention", Metallix and Silver Sonic are using the Eggmobile to get groceries. Silver wants to stick his head out of the window to pretend to be a dog. Metallix refuses, saying "You look like how the word 'Powerthirst' sounds. You draw way too much attention." Silver asks Metallix to repeat the last line, and then again while looking into a mirror.
Metallix: You draw way too much atte-...
(Metallix, after looking at Silver in annoyance, opens the window)
    Metallix: Go nuts, Carl.
Silver Sonic: That is not my name.
  • Rule of Funny: Everything in this series is supposed to be comedic.
  • Running Gag: The cereal-obsessed Dancing Banana Made of Explodium. In the April Fool's Day "Hoes of Metal", one even speaks in a posh fashion before it blows up in the audience's face.
(deep breath) "This dancing banana quite enjoys tasting a certain substance relating to a part that is which is more whole between grains wheats as well as oats."
  • Shout-Out: Each episode is a reference to a meme, but these instances take the cake:
    • The Dancing Banana is the same one from the "It's peanut butter jelly time!" song.
    • In "Fire", Metal Sonic was put on fire because he was getting laid with the Flame Princess.
    • In "I'm at soup!" Mecha Sonic offhandedly mentions he has a girlfriend named Jenny, with commenters believing Jenny's last name being Wakeman. And when Grilled Cheese came out, this was proven to be the case.
    • In "Dum Dum", a talking Relief wall that keeps calling Metal Sonic "Dum Dum" asks for a "gum gum", just like the talking Moai statue from Night at the Museum. Metal does give the wall a "gum gum" alright... Princess Bubblegum that is.
    • "Flying Banana" is in monochrome, which Word of God claims is a deliberate reference to The Three Stooges.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Mecha Sonic Mk. II and Metallix are this, in reference to the latter replacing the former as the Big Bad of Super Mario Bros. Z.
  • Synthetic Voice Actor: Silver Sonic sounds like an early text-to-speech voice. This is lampshaded in "MKI's TTS" where the website used for his voice is going to shut down in June 2024. Silver then vanishes (again).
Metal Sonic: So, does this mean that Mk. I is gonna have to find a new text-to-speech, or is he going to have an actual voice like the rest of us?
  • Transflormation: "Orange Metallix" is about Metal Sonic finding out that Metallix had turned himself into an orange.
    Metallix: I'M ORANGE METALLIIIIIIIIX!
  • Unusual Euphemism: Over time, "dancing banana" became this for "bomb".
  • Wild Teen Party: "Party" is treated like the aftermath of one. A remix of Caramelldansen and a massive light show are playing across Mobius from Eggman's fortress. The robots are seen passed out, lying on the floor. Word of God implies that this happens regularly.
