Yuri

Doki Doki Fallen Angel is a game mod for Doki Doki Literature Club!, created by Noa_AT. Told in four acts, the story revolves around MC's developing relationship with Yuri, and he discovers exactly what she has been hiding from the world.

The mod was elected both "Best Yuri Mod" and "Best Emotional Mod 2019".

This mod contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Aborted Arc: Since the Literature Club collapses early on in the story, the school festival preparations never go ahead.
    • Unlike in the main game, Monika is not self-aware in this story.
  • Adults Are Useless: The one helpful adult in the story is the therapist, and even he isn't portrayed as all that helpful (although to be fair, Yuri doesn't exactly work with him).
  • Afterlife Antechamber: MC and Yuri inexplicably meet up at their spot in the park after Yuri's death, where she absolves him of his guilt and tells him that he helped her more than he knew.
  • Anger Born of Worry: MC gets into an argument with Yuri about her seemingly spur-of-the-moment decision to drop out of school and her refusal to tell him why (which we later find out is because Monika has been trashing her reputation at school).
  • Big Bad: Monika.
  • Book Ends: MC and Yuri begin the story reading together, and in the epilogue, MC reads the sequel at his and Yuri's spot.
  • Bungled Suicide: Sayori is left comatose after a failed suicide attempt.
  • But Thou Must!: The choices you're presented with will only slightly affect the dialogue; the plot remains unaffected.
  • Character Focus: Yuri.
  • Cryptic Conversation: MC gets a bunch of weird and creepy text messages from a mysterious person (later revealed to be Monika).
  • Derailing Love Interests: Monika attempts to play up Yuri's negative sides to MC in the hopes that he dismisses Yuri.
  • Driven to Suicide:
    • Sayori attempts to hang herself in Act 2, which she survives.
    • Yuri attempts to kill herself in Act 3, which she doesn't survive.
    • In Act 4, MC contemplates slitting his wrist, but ultimately doesn't go through with it.
  • Dysfunction Junction: All of the cast are pretty messed up, each in their own way (although MC really only becomes so following Yuri's death).
  • Failure Is the Only Option: There's no way to prevent Yuri's suicide.
  • Five Stages of Grief: Act 4 is divided into five sub-chapters, one for each stage, each preceded by a dedicated poem.
  • Foreshadowing: The book MC and Yuri read together has a scene where the protagonist's reflection becomes twisted and taunts her. The same happens to MC in Act 4.
  • Highschool Sweethearts: MC and Yuri.
  • Hope Spot: MC and Yuri begin to address Yuri's main issues in the original game, specifically by Yuri going to therapy and by preparing to get rid of her knife collection.
  • I Should Have Been Better==/==My God, What Have I Done?: MC's guilt over both Sayori's suicide attempt and Yuri's suicide stems from this; he spends a lot of time admonishing himself for what he could have done better.
  • Lighter and Softer: The story is mostly about MC and Yuri exploring their relationship and being happy together, until everything goes south in Act 3.
  • Living Emotional Crutch: MC and Yuri become this to one another.
  • The Lost Lenore: Yuri becomes this to MC in Act 4 and the epilogue.
  • Mental Health Recovery Arc: The story is set up to be one.
  • The Mourning After: Basically all of Act 4 is this.
  • Parents as People: All of the dokis' (and MC's) parents are described as normal people with their own foibles, instead of being placed on pedestals.
  • Poor Communication Kills: MC and Yuri have a fight about Yuri wanting to drop out of school (due to Monika outing Yuri's cutting habits to the entire student body). This is the last time they interact before Yuri's suicide.]
  • Reunion Vow: After her death, Yuri promises that she and MC will meet again.
  • Sanctuary of Solitude: MC more or less isolates himself after Sayori's suicide attempt and after Yuri's suicide, both out of his perceived guilt at having caused them.
  • School Club Stories: Averted, since the Literature Club all but falls apart in Act 1.
  • Ship Tease: The entire story is this for MC and Yuri.
  • Shout-Out: Plenty of them, both to pop culture in general and to other Doki Doki Literature Club! mods.
  • Talking to the Dead: In the epilogue, MC tells Yuri about his and the other dokis' lives and reads a book to Yuri that they had promised to read together.
  • Tears of Remorse: MC spends most of Act 4 in this stage.
  • Time Skip: The epilogue takes place a year after the conclusion of the main story.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted; MC takes Yuri to a therapist to deal with her self-harming and anxiety. He begins seeing the same therapist after Yuri's suicide.
  • We Used to Be Friends: In Act 1, Sayori becomes heartbroken at MC's budding relationship with Yuri and pushes him away.
  • Wham Shot: The player is treated to a full custom CG of Yuri's suicide.
  • You Are Not Alone: When Yuri tells him that she has tried to get help before, and it hasn't worked, MC claims it'll be different this time because he'll stay with her.
