Rise of the East is a Game Mod for the Real-Time Strategy game Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2. It features the three factions from vanilla Yuri's Revenge and two factions based on Command & Conquer: Generals: the Asia-Pacific Alliance (based on China) and the Global Liberation Army. The concept of countries has been reworked into subfactions; each faction is divided into three subfactions, each with very different technologies and playstyles.

The mod can be downloaded here and its main website can be found here.

This game provides examples of:

  • Ace Custom: Vladislav has his own unique customized motorbike which can be obtained via hero support power and only he can drive it.
  • Abnormal Ammo: The Virus fires special darts filled with a biologically engineered pathogen, causing the victim to rapidly develop large sores and blisters, as well as severe organ damage and necrosis. When the pathogen has reached critical mass within a victim's body, the skin ruptures, ejecting toxic gasses and killing the host.
  • Action Duo: Quang and Trung.
  • Action Girl: Tanya and Yuki for the Allies, Fleur and Nebula for Yuri and the Asian heroine Black Lotus (Originally a Chinese hero unit in the vanilla Generals game).
  • Adaptation Distillation: Various units and features from Generals are retooled to better fit into the Red Alert universe.
  • Adaptation Expansion: Yuri's faction is significantly expanded, complete with its own subfactions (PsiCorps, Specter, and Genesis).
  • Adaptation Name Change: Units that got new names from the game where they debuted are Jieitai (Imperial Warrior), Blackhawk Transport (Nighthawk Transport), Minisub (Yari Minisub), Halftrack (Flak Track), Gatling Buggy (Yuri's Gatling Tank) and Scarab Tank (GLA Scorpion Tank).
  • Adaptational Badass: Ukraine was one of the original playable Soviet nations in Command & Conquer: Red Alert. Whereas the first game's incarnation amounted to little more than mild stat differences, however, the mod's take fleshes them out as a radiation-based and experimentals-centric subfaction.
  • Amazon Brigade: As their name would indicate, all Japanese Archer Maidens are female.
  • Amphibious Automobile: Vehicles capable of traversing both land and water by default include Robot Tanks, Tsunami Tanks, Shatterers, Mecha Tengus (in ground mode), Repair Drones, Weevil Tanks, Assault Crawlers and MOWs. Those that can do so with an upgrade are Surveyors, Bulava Tanks, Magnetrons and Havoc Tanks.
  • Asteroids Monster: A Doombringer ejects an Iron Strider when destroyed.
  • Awesome Personnel Carrier: The Battle Fortress is a heavy vehicle with fireports that allow four soldiers inside to fire out.
  • Barrier Warrior: The Iron Fist and Iron Guard can provide Iron Curtain effects to friendly vehicles.
  • Beast of Battle: The Allies, Soviets and Asia's scout infantry is the Attack Dog (or in case of Ukraine, the War Bear). At sea, the Allies have tamed Dolphins and Yuri uses mind controlled Giant Squid.
  • Boom, Headshot!: The Spetsnaz's Headshot ability instantly kills any infantry below 25% HP.
  • Cast from Hit Points: The Doombringer's Iron Curtain takes away 33% of its HP.
  • Chain Lightning: The electric bolts fired by the Tesla Tank v1 can bounce from target to target.
  • Charged Attack: When idle, Stealth Tanks can store up to 6 missiles that can be launched quickly.
  • Charm Person: Yuri Clones, Psi Commandos, Psi Troopers, Masterminds and Psychic Towers can mind control enemy units. Yuri Prime can mind control both units and buildings.
  • Critical Hit:
    • Storm Tanks have a chance to deal an extra 25% damage and slow the target.
    • Fleur's attacks have a chance to deal an extra 50% damage and disable the target's weapons.
  • Damage-Increasing Debuff:
    • Toxin Rebels, Chem Troopers, Iron Striders, Toxin Tractors and Plague Spreaders reduce enemy armour by 1% each time they attack.
    • Units marked by Quang take an extra 33% damage.
  • Dash Attack: Every 40 seconds, a Brute can charge at its target, moving at double speed.
  • Deadly Disc: Disc Throwers throw heavy discs effective against vehicles.
  • Defog of War: A Spy Satellite Uplink and North Korea's Satellite Feed GP reveal the entire map.
  • Demoted to Extra: The Sniper, Black Eagle and the Tank Destroyer can be obtained by capturing a Tech Secret Lab.
  • Destructible Projectiles: V3 and Dreadnought missiles can be shot down by enemy anti-air before they reach their target.
  • Discard and Draw:
    • The Imperial Rounds support power causes Jieitai to replace their rifles with beam katanas, increasing speed, health and damage but forcing them to fight at close range.
    • The Cloak and Dagger GP also reduces Shadow Tanks and Weevil Tanks' HP by 10% in addition to increasing their damage, turning them invisible and unlocking Stealth Tanks.
    • The Satellite Feed GP increases Artillery Barrage's cooldown by 1 minute, in exchange for removing its cost.
    • Toxicants turns Street Pharmacists, a support unit that heals and boosts other infantry, into Chem Troopers, a direct combat unit.
    • Martyrdom turns Yuri Clones into Acolytes. While the former is the standard mind controller (whose hold over the victim is only maintained as long as the Yuri Clone is alive), the latter can mind control an enemy permanently and boost its victim's stats, but kills itself in the process.
  • Discount Card: An Industrial Plant and Recycled Parts reduce all vehicles' cost by 12% and 15%, respectively. A Tech Power Plant reduces all buildings' cost by 10%.
  • Drill Tank: Ore Drillers and Subterranean APCs can move underground due
  • Drone Deployer:
    • Ahsan's special ability deploys 4 Burst Drones.
    • The Drone Carrier and Aircraft Carrier do not attack by themselves and instead serve as platforms for two drones or six UAVs to bombard enemy targets from afar.
  • Dual Mode Unit:
    • GIs can deploy sandbags around themselves, allowing them to use M60 chainguns, which deal more damage and have better range. Guardian GIs and Prism Defenders can deploy iron rings; the former become uncrushable, the latter gain range and rate of fire. The Cryobuster can dig a foxhole, becoming uncrushable and gaining range. When deployed, none of these units can move.
    • Iron Guards can deploy to periodically boost friendly vehicles' armour and apply Iron Curtain to them, in exchange for being unable to move or attack.
    • Tengus and Buzzers can switch between two modes of movement: flying or hovering.
    • Normally, Hackers can disable enemy vehicles and structures. When deployed, they become immobile and provides the commander a gradual income.
    • The Hammer Tank can switch between a standard anti-tank cannon and an indirect-fire mortar, which deals more damage and can fire from farther but has worse accuracy.
    • In her default mode, Black Lotus infects enemy vehicles, disabling them and nearby vehicles after a delay. When deployed, she can instantly disable vehicles from long range.
    • All helicopters can deploy to land (except the Blackhawk and Hind, which land automatically when not moving, and the Helix, which can never land). Except the Siege Chopper, which deploys an artillery cannon, other helicopters cannot attack at all while landed, making this only truly useful to avoid anti-air fire.
    • The Disruptor, Nuke Cannon and M.O.W. must deploy to fire. In exchange, when deployed, the M.O.W. moves slower, while the other two cannot move at all.
    • While not deployed, the Juggernaut is mobile and can use its cannons at short range. While deployed it becomes a long-ranged immobile artillery piece.
    • While submerged, the Whiskey fires torpedoes at other ships. When surfaced, it switches to long-range missiles to bombard ground targets.
  • Dumb Muscle: Brutes
  • EMP:
    • The Rocketeer is equipped with a small EMP, which can temporarily disable enemy defences or vehicles once every few seconds.
    • The Tesla Raider and Igla Assault Chopper are armed with EMP grenades that can disable vehicles.
    • Every 3 hits, the Thunderer fires an EMP-laced missile that disables vehicles.
    • Trung can deploy a cluster of 3 EMP mines that disable vehicles that move on them.
    • Chitzkoi attacks vehicles by disabling them with EMP.
    • Black Lotus' special malware attack inflicts an EMP effect on the target and nearby vehicles.
    • The Asian secondary superweapon is the EMP Bomb, which calls in a bomber to disable enemy vehicles and buildings.
    • Boris' EMP bullets have a chance to disable enemy vehicles.
    • EMP Trucks induce an EMP upon detonation.
    • Fleur can plant EMP charges that disable an enemy building for 2 minutes.
    • EMP Mines disable vehicles that drive over them.
    • Faulty Construction has a chance to disable enemy vehicles with EMP.
  • Enemy Exchange Program: In addition to the classic Command & Conquer way of capturing enemy production buildings with Engineers, it is also possible to make use of enemy units by mind controlling them, or (in case of vehicles) hijacking them with Hijackers or Buzzers.
  • Enemy Summoner: An Angry Mob Recruiter can recruit a new member for the mob every 2 minutes.
  • The Engineer: Engineers can defuse bombs, repair bridges and your buildings, capture enemy buildings, or repair vehicles when put inside a Bullfrog, Avenger, Robot Tank, Scout or Assault Crawler.
  • Evil-Detecting Dog: Attack Dogs, War Bears and Ravagers can snuff out disguised enemies without having to be manually controlled to do so.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: Incinerators, Dragon Tanks and Shenlong Tanks can set enemies ablaze with flamethrowers.
  • Flying Saucer: Yuri's Drifters and Floating Discs look straight out of a sci-fi B-movie.
  • Freeze Ray: Cryobusters, Cryocopters and Cryo Legionnaires are armed with cryo beams. The former two slow down enemies' speed; the latter has a chance of outright freezing them in place.
  • Garrisonable Structures:
    • Civilian buildings, Battle Bunkers, Fortified Bunkers, Armories, Prison Camps and Palaces can be garrisoned by basic infantry, where they receive a bonus to range and damage and can't be attacked by most conventional weapons, but can't fire on aircraft and are vulnerable to units that can clear garrisons. Civilian garrisonable structures can only be repaired by Engineers and nothing else, and will force the occupants to leave if brought down to red health.
    • Most infantry can garrison inside a GLA Sneak Tunnel entrance, which are all connected to each other, so units can enter and exit from any entrance. No one can fire from any of the tunnel entrances.
    • The Bio Reactor can be garrisoned by all infantry who cannot fire from it but instead cause it to generate more power.
    • The Tank Bunker can be occupied by a turreted non-hovering vehicle which is only vulnerable to certain attacks.
  • Gathering Steam: The Gatling Buggy, Gatling Tank, Gatling Boat and Warlord Tank's barrel needs some time to spin up before it reaches its full rate of fire.
  • Giant Squid: Giant Squid serve as Yuri's tier 1 naval unit.
  • Going Critical: Nuclear Reactors explode in a violent mushroom cloud when destroyed.
  • Guns Akimbo: Rocketeers are armed with dual chainguns, Fleur and Tanya with dual pistols.
  • Hate Plague: Chaos gas (employed by Chaos Drones, Red Catalysts, Havoc Tanks, Vertigo Bombers and the Call Down support power) can send enemy units into a state of confusion where they attack any target, friend or foe, for a short time. The Chameleon's chaos laser works similarly, but only against vehicles.
  • Humongous Mecha: The Mecha Goliath is a massive four-legged walker that towers over most other units.
  • Instant Armor:
    • Combat Armor instantly applies a 30 HP shield to infantry.
    • Iron Curtain instantly turns a group of friendly vehicles invulnerable. Iron Nova creates a one-hit blocker, which applies a lesser Iron Curtain when expired.
  • Jet Pack: Rocketeers and Yuki use jetpacks to fly around. Rocket Retrofitting gives Spetsnaz hover packs, allowing them to fly.
  • Kill Sat:
    • The Athena Cannon utilises laser painters to designate targets for destruction by orbital satellites.
    • When fired, the Particle Cannon will direct a concentrated beam of high-energy particles into space. There, a mirror satellite in orbit will reflect the beam and direct it onto the target.
  • Laser Sight: Chameleons and Vladislav use a target painter to call bombers to destroy enemy buildings from afar.
  • Level Drain: Units hit by an EMS Missile lose one level of veterancy.
  • Lightning Gun: Tesla coils are used by Tesla Troopers, Tesla Defenders, Shock Troopers, Spetsnaz (upgraded with Rocket Retrofitting), Tesla Raiders, Tesla Tanks, Stingray, Tesla Coils and Tesla Sentries.
  • Loud of War: Shatterers emit intense sound waves which shatter tanks and buildings alike.
  • Macross Missile Massacre:
    • The BM-21 Grad fires a volley of rockets that take a very long time to reload.
    • When activated, a Scud Storm fires 9 missiles onto the target area.
  • The Medic: Units that serve to heal friendly infantry include the Street Pharmacist (actively, one at a time), Ambulance and Support Crawler (both of which heal all infantry nearby). Vehicles can be repaired by Repair Drones, Repair Tanks, Mechanics, or Engineers in a Bullfrog, Avenger, Robot Tank, Scout or Assault Crawler.
  • Mobile Shrubbery: The Mirage Tank has the unique ability to camouflage itself as a tree or rock as long as the tank is stationary.
  • Molotov Cocktail: Rioters and Mob Raiders use molotov cocktails to burn buildings.
  • Molotov Truck: Car Bombs, Demolition Trucks, EMP Trucks and Demo Boats are filled with explosives, and their job is to blow themselves up in the face of the enemy.
  • Money Multiplier: An Ore Purifier increases the amount of money you get from ore by 25%.
  • Mook Commander:
    • Field Officers boost nearby infantry's stats by 15%.
    • When upgraded with Indoctrination, Kirov Airships boost the speed of nearby units by 30%.
  • Multiple Life Bars: When first destroyed, a Battle Bus only loses its wheels and remains behind as a stationary bunker for infantry.
  • Mutually Exclusive Party Members: A Russian commander can only choose either anti-infantry or anti-vehicle Tesla Tanks. The choice is made upon building an Armory, and cannot be reversed.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The Asians are formally known as the Asian Pacific Alliance, the same name as one of the playable factions in the cancelled Command & Conquer: Generals 2.
    • Vietnam has access to Disc throwers, which function much like their GDI equivalents from Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. They, along with the other Asians, can also deploy Railgunners, which resemble bulkier and more primitive versions of the Zone Troopers from Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.
    • Japan's unique units and overall strengths are a combination of both the Allies and Empire of the Rising Sun in Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
    • Many of Yuri's units, especially the new ones introduced in the mod, take many cues from various incarnations of the Brotherhood of Nod.
    • Yuri's Ravagers resemble their Scrin namesakes from Tiberium Wars but reimagined as heavily-mutated scouting dogs.
  • Non-Combat EXP:
    • Hackers passively gain experience when they're deployed and use their laptops to generate money.
    • The Aircraft Training upgrade causes American aircraft to be built as veteran.
    • When a Comanche, Raptor, Harrier, Aurora or Shard Bomber is shot down, a Pilot will eject and can transfer its veterancy to a friendly unit.
    • North Korea can cause Minigunners with Advanced Training; Hackers, ECM Tanks and Black Lotus with Netrunner
    • Rifleman Training causes Riflemen to be built as veteran.
    • Plague Spreaders are built as veteran if Biowarfare has been chosen at tier 2 and a Palace has been built.
    • Raider Buggies are built as veteran in tier 3.
    • Picking up a Supply Crate increases experience by 500.
  • One-Hit Kill:
    • Infantry bitten by an Attack Dog, War Bear or Terror Drone, or affected by Iron Curtain or Iron Nova is killed instantly. In turn, a Terror Drone inside a vehicle is vulnerable to being instantly destroyed if that vehicle is repaired.
    • The Tesla Fighter's bomb instantly crashes light aircraft.
  • One-Hit Polykill: The Nova Tank, Railgunner and Railgun Tank's beam deals damage to all units that it passes through, as do the flames fired by the Shenlong Tank.
  • Original Character: Outside of Tanya, Boris, Chitzkoi, Yuri, Black Lotus, Jarmen Kell and Dr. Thrax, none of the heroes in the mod appeared in any Command & Conquer game.
  • Pinball Projectile: Discs thrown by Disc Throwers, Berzerkers' bullets and Boris' EMP bullets can bounce from the primary target to nearby other enemies.
  • Playing with Fire: Initiates attack by igniting fires with their psychic powers.
  • Poisoned Weapons: Toxin Rebels fire corrosive bullets, Anthrax RPG Troopers and Cobra Tanks have anthrax shells, Chem Troopers, Toxin Tractors, Plague Spreaders and Dr. Thrax spray poison, Scud Launchers and the Scorpion Cell Scud Storm leaves behind toxic gases, Crop Dusters drop toxic bombs, and the Anthrax Bomb and Dirty SCUD Storm unleash a horrendous amount of poison on the target area.
  • Power Floats: Yuri Prime can use telekinetic powers to float over land and water.
  • Ray Gun:
    • German Comanches can be upgraded with lasers via a general's ability.
    • The Paladin is armed with interceptor lasers specifically designed to shoot down missiles.
    • Prism Towers, Prism Defenders, Prism Raiders, Prism Tanks and Hailstorms are armed with prism beams.
    • Avengers and Laser Tanks are armed with anti-air and anti-vehicle lasers.
    • Burst Drones and Iron Striders are armed with iron beams.
  • Recursive Ammo:
    • Shard weapons, used by Jaeger and Shard Bombers, explode into multiple sub-munitions upon impact, dealing area damage.
    • The Sandstorm's missiles detonate mid-air, releasing a cluster of smaller missiles which rain down the target.
  • Reflecting Laser: The beam fired by Prism Tanks refracts off its primary target onto surrounding units.
  • Remixed Level: The mod features remastered versions of the vanilla Yuri's Revenge campaign, and the China and GLA campaigns in Generals.
  • Shotguns Are Just Better: Shotgun Mobsters and Peacekeepers are armed with shotguns, which are especially effective against grouped infantry.
  • Smoke Out: Rashid can throw a smoke screen to slow down enemies by 15%.
  • Sniper Rifle: Pathfinders, Snipers, Viruses, Trung and Jarmen Kell use sniper rifles to eliminate enemy infantry from afar.
  • Sniping the Cockpit: Jarmen Kell can kill the drivers of enemy vehicles, leaving them empty and earning a bounty for himself.
  • Spawn Broodling: Infantry killed by an Imploder are transformed into Ravagelings. Mindsweepers have a chance to turn their victims into Lesser Brutes.
  • Spider Tank: Sickles walk on three legs; Widowmakers, Stingers and the Mecha Goliath on four.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Arrows fired by Archer Maidens travel in a straight line, without an arc.
  • Suicide Attack:
    • Terrorists wear bomb vests and attack by blowing themselves up in the face of the enemy.
    • Kamikaze Dive calls in KAI-T50s to crash at the targeted area.
    • Against vehicles and buildings, Burst Drones attack by blowing themselves up.
    • The Scarab Cell Detonate ability causes infantry in a target area to explode, dealing damage.
    • Unlike normal mind controllers that can only control an enemy unit as long as the mind controller is alive, the Acolyte's mind control is permanent (and also boosts the target's stats by 33%), but kills the Acolyte in the process.
  • Super Serum:
    • Juice 'Em Up heals friendly infantry and increases all of their stats by 15%.
    • When healing friendly infantry, the Street Pharmacist also boosts a random stat by 5%.
  • Tactical Superweapon Unit: Ukraine's epic unit, the Mecha Goliath, must be unlocked by a tier 3 General's Power, requires its own Mechabay (instead of the normal War Factory), costs $3000, is limited to one per player, and can handily mop up anything that is on the ground.
  • A Taste of the Lash: The GLA can whip their slaves to force them to move faster.
  • Teleportation:
    • Chrono Miners can automatically teleport themselves to any unoccupied friendly Ore Refinery with their cargo. This also ejects any Terror Drone which is infesting the Chrono Miner.
    • The Allied secondary superweapon Chronosphere can teleport a group of vehicles to any point on the map.
    • Jaeger's special ability is to teleport anywhere on the map once every 4 minutes.
  • Throw Down the Bomblet: Grenadiers, as their name would indicate, are armed with grenades and flashbangs. Navy SEALs throw C4 charges at buildings, Fanatics throw sticky bombs, Psi Commandos throw psychic charges, Specters throw anti-building bombs, and Tesla Raider throw EMP grenades.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: The Soviets and Asians are nominally allies, but have very different ideas for which Communist hegemon should rise to the occassion.
  • Weather-Control Machine: The Weather Controller creates a massive, highly damaging lightning storm over a given area when activated.
  • Worker Unit:
    • The MCV is needed to build structures and losing the MCV without being able to replace it usually means losing the game.
    • For all factions except the GLA, ore miners gather ore and transport it to Refineries for procession into money. The GLA instead uses Supply Stashes (which replace conventional Refineries) and Slave Miners, which deploy uncontrollable Slaves to automatically gather ore from fields. PsiCorps and Specter also use the Psi Prison, a non-combat unit which provides passive income.
  • You Nuke 'Em: The iconic Soviet superweapon is a big Tactical Nuke Silo. Iraq has access to a smaller version, the Rad Missile Silo.
  • You Will Not Evade Me: Magnetrons and Drifters can lift enemy vehicles into the air and pull them towards themselves.
