"Now finish the job, partner! The spotlight is yours... the fixed one!"

Created by PieDaDude, Corruption Takeover is a recursive mod of Friday Night Funkin': Corruption. Like the mod of origin, Takeover delves into a Darker and Edgier environment, though takes it to the next level all throughout, aiming to address any issues the creator found with how the original mod is going.

The premise of the mod is that Boyfriend had finally managed to win over the Dearests, though the Lemon Demon intervened and quickly corrupted both Boyfriend and Girlfriend, as well as several bystanders close by. Now everyone across Philly, including many from separate mods, are in a massive fight to try and survive the zombified monsters roaming the city as long as they can.

The mod's demo, which contains the Prologue and Pico's Week, can be downloaded here.

This mod contains the following tropes:

  • Adaptational Sympathy: Daddy Dearest has become much kinder just before the Happy Ending Override, having planned the whole mall event as a celebration of him, his wife and Boyfriend officially burying the hatchet with one another. He arrived too late to defend either of them from Lemon Demon, and when he got there, he felt emotionally crushed seeing his daughter corrupted. That Christmas, he writes in his diary about how he wasn't strong enough to save her, though his resolve is strengthened in a plan to help stop the mess once and for all, hopefully to get better respect from the general public.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Lemon Demon himself gets this in this mod, having much more involvement in the plot than in the original Corruption mod.
  • Adapted Out: Soul Boyfriend is completely absent from the Takeover continuity, not existing in Boyfriend's mind at any time throughout the mod's events.
  • Aspect Montage: At the beginning of Week 3's opening cutscene, shots of numerous locations are shown. Namely the alleyway Whitty once hid within, another alley that Garcello perished in to stop Boyfriend from meeting the fate he did, and Sarvente's church.
  • Body Horror: Lemon Demon's head is split in half down the middle, with portions of his upper teeth going up the split halves and a black substance, which isn't directly the Corruption, trying to hold it together. It gets worse with the reveal that even he's not invulnerable to the Corruption, so most likely cut the top of his head in half to delay his side of the Corruption's spread while he watches the world crumble.
  • Darker and Edgier: The stakes are even higher than they are in the original mod, to the point where the whole thing seems to be an Apocalypse How with more and more people falling over time.
  • Evolutionary Levels: In the beginning, the corrupted individuals look fairly basic, due to having just possessed their victims. Following the Time Skip, however, it's shown the Corruption itself had evolved over the previous years, to the point where its hosts sport even more horrifying nightmare faces than before, amongst other things.
  • Eyepatch After Time Skip: Mommy Mearest wears one during Week 3 to symbolise how she's toughened up in the years since the Corruption began its spread. She got it after her left eye was struck by one of the corrupted, and while it had recovered, the pain of the injury is still felt by her, so she prefers to keep it.
  • Fighting Your Friend: This happens a lot throughout the mod.
    • In Week 1, it's the traditional Pico vs Boyfriend encounter present in other Corruption mods.
    • In Week 2, Skid is on the opposing side and fights Evil Pump with Nene during Anxiety. He is unable to keep fighting once Evil Lila comes into the picture, though.
    • For "Outbreak", Whitty is fighting three of his closest friends, Hex, Sunday and Carol, with Tabi. Being close to all three of them (in Carol's case, with or without their original ship involved) and being forced to take them all on in horrible looks is very likely to cause Whitty to hit a Despair Event Horizon and corrupt quickly unless he can somehow power through with Tabi, who barely even knows any of them.
  • Foregone Conclusion:
    • During the Prologue, Boyfriend will get corrupted, no matter how well he does against Lemon Demon. It's even impossible to lose in "Frostbite", hammering home how helpless Boyfriend truly is in this situation.
    • At the end of Week 2, Nene flees alone to find Pico, who had been corrupted long before. Considering her state in Week 3 two years later, it's clear neither she or Skid made it out.
  • Game-Over Man: In the demo, if Boyfriend suffers a Game Over during Week 1, Lemon Demon will chime in with words meant to beckon his Brainwashed and Crazy partner to continue with his goal.
  • Happy Ending Override: The whole mod drives on this, with things having been finally patched up between Boyfriend and the Dearests before Lemon Demon ruined everything. Daddy Dearest even talks about this in the Diary.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Compared to the original mod, this one is hammering it hard that the whole world is in danger. Because of this, the likes of Whitty, Hex, Sarvente and others now have their lives on the line because of the titular virus.
  • Meaningful Background Event: During "Frostbite" and "Unable", the characters who don't get directly involved in the song (aside from those already corrupted) show traces of the Corruption beginning to spread on them as the song goes on. It's hardly noticeable at first, even from their perspective, but it soon gets to the point that the characters are clearly frightened, weakened or stressed by the substance's spread.
  • Motor Mouth: Lemon Demon raps pretty fast during one of his turns in "Lies", to the point where it's difficult to make out what he's saying without subtitles on.
  • Out-Gambitted: Nene and Skid both end up on the receiving end of this, having been sent off by Pico before "One-Shot" to seek safety at the latter's residence. However, Lemon Demon had beat them both there, easily corrupting both Lila and Pump off-screen and siccing them on the pair to break them and corrupt them.
  • Photo Montage: One is shown during the homestretch of "One-Shot", depicting Nene and Skid fleeing from the mall, Whitty and Tabi defending each other from the corrupted, Ruvyzvat preparing for the worst, Lemon Demon ambushing a defenceless Lila, and finally Daddy Dearest bearing witness to his own corrupted daughter inside the mall, all while Pico is left fearing the worst right before taking his final attack.
  • Promoted to Playable: Lemon Demon alongside Evil Pump during the second week.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: This is, of course, commonplace for Lemon Demon's singing, though is demonstrated even more during "Lies".
Strangers can lie any moment in a bit,
Don't worry, 'cause your family'll protect.
Don't be afraid, and listen to us.
Or will you be rude and make a fuss?
After all, you aren't a bad boy.
Don't be sad, join and enjoy!
The things this girl did won't be fixed,
and everything ended up being mixed!
Her heart is so full of despair and woe,
She doesn't stand a chance against this foe.
Give me your hand, and I'll gladly show you
this world I will reshape in my view!
  • Shout-Out: The henchman accompanying Mommy Mearest during her week is in a similar pose to Kevin from Arrow Funk, but leaning closer to the speaker instead of just having his hand on it.
  • Stranger Safety: Nene to Skid, as the two form a bond with one another despite hardly knowing each other. Lemon Demon mocks Skid for this throughout "Lies", claiming that he'd "rather believe someone's nonsense than trust in (his) own family" when he's faced with a Sadistic Choice of either standing with Nene or surrendering to his corrupted family.
  • Time Skip: Two years separate the events of the second and third weeks, with the Corruption having spread further in that timeframe and survivors, like Mommy Mearest, adapting to the conditions as needed. The side-stories aim to tell what went on during this time skip.
