Funkin' Corruption: Insanity (also referred to as Funkin' Insanity on the playable mod's title screen) is a recursive mod of Friday Night Funkin': Corruption led by Ciov07 / CXV. It depicts a new set of events occurring related to the titular virus, as well as further raised stakes going on.

Every part of the mod so far can be watched here, with updates being dropped on occasion via the team's Twitter account. A demo containing the first two chapters of the story, alongside two bonus songs, can be played here.

This mod contains the following examples:

  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • Pico, this time, is in a Dual Boss with Darnell throughout his chapter.
    • Mommy Mearest's chapter has four parts in total to give her more screentime.
    • For canon Corruption, Tankman and his army are nowhere to be seen before things start turning around. In Insanity, however, he gets a whole chapter to himself.
  • Amusing Injuries: Losing "Disturbance" (even before the plot twist, funnily enough) has Evil Boyfriend squashed by a PNG image of a car, expressing his annoyance with the situation further. He springs back up no worse for wear when you retry.
  • The Apocalypse Brings Out the Best in People: This is pretty identical to the original mod, though is demonstrated well throughout "Thunder Run" where, in the background, Tankmen from both armies are fighting off the corrupted, meaning they most likely settled their feud to combat the greater threat.
    • "Gamer's Delight" has Berdly taking the threat of the Corruption seriously pretty much the whole way through, working well with Noelle to save Kris and Susie from its hold. He only gets his smug smirk back once Kris has broken free of the Corruption's hold, and Noelle gets this too, both confident of their victory.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: "Reminiscence" plays out as this, with Boyfriend's hope hanging in the balance, and Soul Boyfriend wanting to try one more time to free him from the Corruption, even breaking the chains he had been shackled in to do so.
  • Bittersweet Ending: As with everyone else, Tankman falls to the Corruption in Chapter 5. However, Darnell is freed of it thanks to a last resort Tankman pulled, and though Mommy Mearest is quickly assimilated again, Darnell manages to escape.
  • Body Horror: Senpai (and by extension, NPC Boyfriend and Girlfriend) are an absolute mess by the time they're seen again in Oblivion, their bodies melting and showing traces of painful injuries.
  • Break the Cutie: Compared to canon, Mommy Mearest remains uncorrupted much longer than normal, even freeing her daughter and Nene temporarily. It takes Evil Girlfriend using an illusion of Daddy Dearest to finally shatter her faith enough for her to be corrupted.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Over the course of "Disturbance", Evil Boyfriend and Pico say "fuck" a lot throughout.
Evil Boyfriend: What the-?! Get the fuck off my speaker!
Pico: I'm doin' whatever the fuck I wanna do, motherfucker, that's what I'm doing!
  • Dark Reprise: Accompanying the fanart sections in Chapter 5's YouTube videos is "The Soldiers", a dark and depressing song with "Stress" as one of its lead leitmotifs.
  • Death from Above: Downplayed in that no-one is killed here, but throughout the majority of "Oblivion", purple meteors rain down on the ruined landscape.
  • Designated Girl Fight: All of Chapter 4 prominently has the mod's female cast (Mommy Mearest, Girlfriend and Nene) front and center the whole time.
  • Dual Boss: This is quite prominent throughout the mod.
    • Chapter 1's main focus is fighting Pico and Darnell in unison, though the tides are turned once it's exaggerated on Evil Boyfriend's side as Evil Girlfriend and Evil Nene arrive.
    • Chapter 3, naturally, has Skid and Evil Pump fought together.
    • Chapter 4 inverts this from "Hotwire" onwards, with both Evil Girlfriend and Evil Nene fighting Mommy Mearest.
    • Chapter 5 introduces another one during "Tag Team", when Mommy Mearest shows up against Sergeant John Captain.
      • The odds are evened out for this one in "War", with Steve showing up to assist John to the bitter end.
      • Finally, in "Aftermath", Darnell and Mommy Mearest ally up against Evil Pico as the playable characters.
  • Evolving Title Screen: As the chapters commence in the playable mod, the portrait on the main menu gradually changes, with each corrupted character having their eyes blanked out by red marker. As of the demo, this starts with Boyfriend, Girlfriend and Nene, then Pico and Darnell, and finally the TV with Senpai inside.
  • Face Framed in Shadow: Throughout "Reminiscence", Boyfriend's eyes are completely obscured by shadow, showing how much more broken he feels after two failed attempts to stop those close to him from getting corrupted.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The first hint that the Boyfriend and Girlfriend seen in Chapter 2 are merely NPCs is down to the health bar remaining bang in the centre, no matter how well you do, until Evil Pico breaks into the game.
    • In Chapter 4, the reveal that Pico and Boyfriend are simply illusions used in the build-up for the REAL Arc Villain of the character is shown subtlety in "Hallucination", with the two's base game sprites being used instead of any of the new sprites made for Insanity.
  • Finger Gun: Near the end of "Hemlocked", Glitch Pico does this gesture to summon a real gun into Hating Simulator, which panics Senpai quite a lot. And worse, in the playable mod, he makes good on his intent to use it and blasts Senpai's chest to injure him.
  • Get Out!: After Pico leads "Disturbance" for no reason other than Rule of Funny, Evil Boyfriend angrily tells him to clear off while rapidly corrupting him (complete with a trio of vine booms). He does so after a bit more muttering.
  • Harder Than Hard: The secret "Vojbra Mode", accessible by typing "voj" on any menu screen. When this mode is active, not only are you reduced to being a One-Hit-Point Wonder for every playable song, but the game will close should you even miss a single note.
  • Hope Spot:
    • Boyfriend gets opportunities to be freed from the Corruption early on in both Chapters 1 and 3, the latter of which has earlier intervention from Soul Boyfriend. Both times sadly fail. However, his corrupted body does sustain gradual damage between the chapters he appears in.
    • Likewise, Mommy Mearest comes brutally close to freeing her own daughter and temporarily succeeds in freeing Nene. This backfires quickly.
    • Following "Tag Team" in Chapter 5, another Tankman (most likely Steve) manages to receive his Sergeant's signal, making a resolve to head over there and aid him. They do hold out for some time before inevitably falling, but Darnell does break free and escape.
  • Meaningful Background Event: Throughout the first chapter, a train can be seen approaching the area where the battle is in action. By the third song, this train pulls up, with Evil Girlfriend and Evil Nene showing up to nullify Pico and Darnell's efforts.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished:
    • Nene, after being freed from the Corruption enough, halts the chase and confronts Evil Girlfriend to give Mommy Mearest some distance. It amounts to nothing in the end, as it leads to her getting pierced in the eye and quickly re-corrupted.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After spending the majority of "Disturbance" trying to wake up the sleeping fennec fox, Evil Boyfriend finally loses it, angrily banging the speaker which finally wakes it up.
Evil Boyfriend: Are... you... FUCKING KIDDING ME?! WAKE UP!
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: Free Play-exclusive songs "Utopia" and "Gamer's Delight" end with the Corruption starting to lose, with Chara knocking the virus off of Sans, and Berdly and Noelle shaking off the Corruption they sustained whilst freeing Kris, though Susie still remains bound to the virus, and it's left ambiguous as to whether the four Lightners won against it or not.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Pico and Darnell both wear scarves to match their winter attire during Chapter 1, and they aren't planning on holding back against Evil Boyfriend.
  • Stylistic Suck: "Disturbance", after the big plot twist, has this entirely played for laughs, with the sprites for Evil Boyfriend and Evil Girlfriend drawn in a low-tier art style, while Pico shows up midway through in his base game sprites, only to be switched to his modded sprites after Evil Boyfriend tells him to get out. Once the sleeping fennec fox is woken up, it suddenly turns the speaker into a toy car and chases Evil Boyfriend off with it, all while the go-happy music speeds up as far as it can go before coming to a stop.
  • Taking You with Me:
    • At the end of his chapter, Spirit attempts to pull this on Glitch Pico before he is Killed Off for Real. While he doesn't succeed in killing the shooter, it's still enough to force-boot him out of the game, likely rendering him unable to fight for a little while.
    • Right before Tankman finally falls, he gives out the signal for the tank to fire. The resulting blast succeeds in knocking Evil Boyfriend out cold and freeing both Darnell AND Mommy Mearest from the Corruption, extending the chapter by one more song.
  • Voice of the Legion: Any songs composed by Apparition for the mod (examples being "Remorse", "Hegemony" and "Disturbance") feature the fully-corrupted characters having a distortion in their voice, which makes clear how big a threat they are.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's pretty difficult to talk about Freeplay-exclusive "Disturbance" without giving away the amusing plot twist one quarter through, hence why it's left up to the player to play themselves.
  • Wham Shot: The reveal in Chapter 4 that Girlfriend was never un-corrupted from the start, the saving instead temporarily applying to Nene alone. This is shown with Evil Girlfriend somehow immediately reclaiming control over her host. As of the release of "Hegemony", however, this is switched to crushing the Hope Spot in a more twisted way, with Lemon Demon taunting Mommy Mearest on thinking saving her daughter was easy, causing all her progress to become gradually undone on Girlfriend.
