This won't be your familiar finale!

Funkin' Corruption: REIMAGINED, also known as Friday Night Funkin' Corruption: REIMAGINED or Simply Corruption: REIMAGINED, created by DyanEstella, is an alternate take on Phantom Fear's Friday Night Funkin': Corruption that explores what would happen if Pico was able to free Boyfriend and Girlfriend from the Corruption's grasp while still succumbing to it himself.

The now corrupted Pico sets out to spread the Corruption in Boyfriend and Girlfriend's place while the former tries to combat it while the latter hides away to protect herself.

A playlist of the entire series here and a version of the game that contains everything as well as a few extra, non-canon songs, but not all of them, can be found here.

The series itself finally came to an end for good on April 3rd, 2023, rounding off with the conclusion to the Duality timeline, and the true final update for the playable mod is in the works, aiming to implement all the remaining songs in the build alongside updating many of the pre-existing songs.

There was also a sub-mod, dubbed Sussy Spinoff, that expands on the April Fools' Day song for the mod and is a crossover with Vs. Impostor, though this ultimately got cancelled. The build with three of the songs can be played here. A fellow sub-mod, Funkin' Corruption: REIMAGINED Aftermath, follows the events after the mod with Spirit Boyfriend, and can be downloaded here.

BSides

Funkin' Corruption: REIMAGINED provides examples of:

  • Action Survivor: Prior to his conflict in the "Duality" timeline, Boyfriend is left badly crippled and survives alone on the streets with little food and water, as well as no shelter, believing Girlfriend is most likely dead. He does get a Hope Spot when, not only does he catch wind that Girlfriend survived the assault of the corrupted, but that Pico de-corrupted enough to aid his friend.
  • Adaptational Badass: Spirit has the ability to rewind time, which he uses to defeat Glitch Boyfriend, take over Boyfriend’s body, and put a stop to the Corruption once and for all.
  • Adaptational Location Change: In the mod’s version of Skid and Pump’s week, Pico faces off with Skid and Pump in front of a graveyard rather than the mansion seen in Week 2.
  • Adaptational Wimp: Glitch Boyfriend is defeated by Spirit easily after the Rewind.
  • Adapted Out:
    • Soul Boyfriend is nowhere to be seen, though it could be argued that REIMAGINED‘s version of Glitch Boyfriend could be a Composite Character of the himself and Soul Boyfriend, given that he now uses Soul Boyfriend’s poses.
      • This is subverted with "In Your Mind" starring him as the opponent, aiding Boyfriend in resisting the Corruption a bit longer following "Devastation". Though, judging by what comes next, it's clear he didn't succeed. This has been considered non-canon, however.
    • A less major example would be Pico’s chain from canon Corruption is missing, instead being replaced with an X engraved on his body.
  • Art Evolution: As showcased in the official music video for the remake of "Emancipation" (alongside the cancelled build of Sussy Spinoff), the mod is undergoing quite the facelift with its visual design, especially around the main cast members. The pinned comment on that same video also mentions that a completely new Heads-Up Display is going to appear in the final update.
  • Ascended Extra:
    • Pico, who was only playable for one week in canon Corruption, is actually one of the main driving forces of the plot along side Boyfriend.
    • Spirit also gets this treatment thanks to the final week making him the key to defeating the Corruption in REIMAGINED, in contrast to canon Corruption, where he did put up a good fight, he still died in the end.
    • While being the main catalyst for the original mod's events, Monster hasn't been confronted by a single cast member thus far, only serving as The Cameo in that mod's Week 2. In this mod, however, come the end of the Rewind week, Monster is finally fought by the Dearests and Spirit BF, having his own dedicated song for the occasion.
  • B-Side: Multiple B-Side remixes of the soundtrack are included in the free play menu.
  • Being God Is Hard: In most timelines, following Boyfriend succumbing to the Corruption again, he decides to try and see how things can be improved from the normal turn of events. However, each time prior to the Rewind, his efforts end in failure, and he becomes increasingly frustrated at the lack of positive closure. Canonically, the Rewind timeline is the last one to be utilised, and this finally results in a victory, albeit at the cost of Boyfriend's life for good.
  • Bittersweet Ending: While the Corruption has been rid from the world, it was at the cost of Boyfriend's soul as Spirit needed a body to actually fight the thing head on. Monster even points out that though his plan failed, he still got the last laugh by getting rid of Boyfriend.
  • Bookends: At the beginning of the mod, Pico is the first character aside from Boyfriend and Girlfriend to get corrupted. Come the Rewind week, and he's the last one to be uncorrupted by his own will and everyone else being freed for good.
  • Combat Pragmatist: After Pico gets fully corrupted in "Extrication", he begins shooting at Boyfriend.
  • Curbstomp Battle: Off-screen in the Duality timeline, Daddy Dearest is very quickly overpowered by his corrupted wife.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: During the times when Spirit appears in “Short Circuit”, for the majority of “Banishment”, and the very beginning of “Savestate”, the scenery becomes a striking black and white.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Like in the canon version of events, Mommy Mearest's corrupted self is what breaks Daddy Dearest and Girlfriend in "Familiar Finale". Though this is subverted in "Full Circle", as Spirit Boyfriend is present to push the two past their twisted family member to finally break the Corruption's hold on her.
  • Dual Boss: The latter two songs of Daddy Dearest’s week has Girlfriend join in. The first three songs in the free play "Duality" timeline also fall into this trope, as both Evil Daddy Dearest and Evil Mommy Mearest are fought at the same time in those songs. This culminates in Girlfriend and the Spooky Kids being fought together as the final boss in said timeline.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness:
    • The original versions of Pico and Mommy Mearest’s week reused canon Corruption‘s soundtrack and the original version of Skid and Pump’s first day used a miscellaneous song that just so happened to use Pico and the Spookiez’s vocals.
    • The Skid and Pump week in the videos take place in the Week 2 mansion, but the version in the downloadable mod take place in front of a graveyard.
  • Eldritch Abomination: Evil Spirit BF borders on this, having been made after Evil Pico trashed the console and a twisted entity made from the Corruption possessed them both, all while the spirit of the original Boyfriend is Forced to Watch in horror. The non-canon Evil Spirit Pico could also qualify.
  • Face Framed in Shadow: Senpai's face in "Doomsday", Daddy Dearest's face throughout most of his week, and Spirit Boyfriend's losing icon are precisely this.
  • Hope Spot:
    • Like in the canon version of Corruption, Mommy Mearest is able to break the Corruption‘s hold over Pico, even more so than in the canon version of events, temporarily, but it takes back Pico, leading to her being taken over.
    • With Boyfriend and Girlfriend free from the corruption, you’d expect that things would swing in favor of them. Unfortunately, over the course of the Boyfriend week, the Corruption takes back its ace in a hopeless fight against a corrupted Mommy Mearest that you have to endure as Boyfriend.
    • Aside from the Doomsday timeline's lack of proper conclusion, it's generally noted that there are consistent pushes to ensure something goes right in at least one timeline. However, unfortunately enough, aside from the Rewind timeline that leads to the Corruption's ultimate downfall, not a single one of these timelines has a happy resolution.
  • Hopeless Bossfight:
    • The Boyfriend week is disguised as Boyfriend being able to free Mommy Mearest from the Corruption, unfortunately, this is when he is taken back by it.
    • Two heroic examples during the Rewind, both “Savestate” and “Full Circle” have Spirit and co. pull two complete curb stomps on the player characters, finally putting an end to the Corruption.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: While this was already implied in canon Corruption, REIMAGINED shows a partially corrupted Pico trying to shoot himself multiple times and not taking any damage during “Glammed”.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: In the "Resurgence" timeline, this is shown for Senpai, who is immediately worried for Narrator Boyfriend and promptly thinks about getting help for him, even though that's the least of the kid's worries at that time.
  • Killed Off for Real: Boyfriend’s ultimate fate at the end of the series, his soul fades away at the end of “Soliloquy”.
  • Marathon Level: Both “Familiar Finale” and “Full Circle” are a whopping 7 minutes long, with the latter of which approaching 8 minutes, all the while you can’t miss 10 notes else you’ll be hit with a game over.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Boyfriend gets this in two of the extra timelines.
    • In the Duality timeline, when things start looking bleak for him and Pico, Boyfriend shows a visible glare on his face, well and truly taking the threat of the Dearests together seriously. It helps that he's still VERY bitter about the two ruining his life at every opportunity, and that he's fighting for his friends and other survivors, not for the Dearests.
    • Throughout "Compassion", Boyfriend loses his stride over time and is left on the verge of being reduced to Broken Tears over the fact he couldn't save Girlfriend, just as the unthinkable happens in the end.
  • Power Floats: During “Full Circle”, Spirit Boyfriend starts floating during his solo against Mommy Mearest. This also happens in “Resurgence” once the corruption completely takes over Spirit Boyfriend’s body.
  • Promoted to Playable: Spirit via Spirit Boyfriend in “Chances” and “Take Two”. Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest, both uncorrupted, join in during the latter.
    • In the final version, Girlfriend will get this alongside Boyfriend in "Infraction", joining in after Pico fully succumbs to the Corruption.
  • What If?: The entire premise of the mod is this; What if Pico was able to free Boyfriend and Girlfriend from the corruption, but still succumbed to it himself?
  • "X" Makes Anything Cool: Evil Pico’s body is adorned with an large, bleeding X, not too disimular to Xenophanes.
