I am an artist and comics creator, born 1987 (23yo as of last edit).
My handle is after one of the best-known works by Japanese mystery fiction and erotic-grotesque nonsense writer Edogawa Rampo, The Strange Tale of The Panorama Island. It's been adapted into a beautiful comic by one of my favorite creators, Suehiro Maruo.
Favorites folders are works in progress.
Tropes Applicable to Myself
- Mad Artist and creator of True Art - don't call it a comic book, call it a Graphic Novel!!!!!11!1!1 Also, because my art is True, it is (w)angsty.
- Magical Queer. All this oppression has imbued me with much wisdom! I'm all wise 'n' shit!
- Transsexual (gender-variant, transgender, genderqueer, choose your term, but I take hormones and have transformed my body, so there you have it) - known to present ambiguously and cause Viewer Gender Confusion.
- Unrepentant Cloud Cuckoo Lander and sometime ubergoth and PunkRocker, although I'd rather listen to Christian Death at home than hang out in The Goth Scene and I was never a Quincy Punk. I usually pass up my hot pink patch jacket for a hoodie nowadays.
- Atheist (in that I do not believe in God(s)), but not a Hollywood Atheist. I don't like The Amazing Atheist or Pat Condell (or other people who SPEAK IN CAPS, generally), and I'm okay with being called an agnostic or lumped in with deists, Buddhists (like my father!) or other Jews. Also, I don't harbor an irrational fear of Muslims.
- I have my Eeyore and Nietzsche Wannabe moments/days/weeks/months/years. Also, Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny! Also, a nonverbal learning disability.
- If I ever kill anyone, I will turn out to have been left-handed at the time of the crime.
- As you may have noticed, I am a Twofer (Sixfer? Twelvefer?) Token Minority. I have learned to have a sense of humor about this.
Favorite Comics
- Chris Ware is my super-duper-favoritest! Jimmy Corrigan The Smartest Kid On Earth is, in my mind, the defining masterpiece of comics.
- Suehiro Maruo is pretty high up there, too.
- Shirow Masamune was my first love. Appleseed is my favorite of his manga, although I love him most for having spawned the whole Ghost In The Shell franchise (and the Major in particular, thank you very much).
- Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira was another of my first loves.
- There are theorists, and then there is Scott Mc Cloud. He's The Theorist. Understanding Comics. The Infinite Canvas.
- Alan Moore's work, esp. Watchmen, V For Vendetta, Promethea. He's the best.
- Yuichi Yokoyama's Travel
- Freak Angels
- Girl Genius
- Junji Ito's Uzumaki was the first, and still one of the only, comics to make me genuinely creeped out.
- xkcd
