Trivia / The Mr. Men Show

Go To

  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer:
    • The description for the episode "Physical" states that Little Miss Sunshine and Mr. Tickle do aerobics class together. The former is actually Little Miss Chatterbox.
    • The official Mr. Men Little Miss channel has its fair share of blunders, such as confusing episode numbers, messing up episode titles, using screenshots from the wrong episode in certain thumbnails and some of the video descriptions summarize segments that don't even exist, such as their upload of "Cooking" claiming Mr. Stubborn appears in a chili cook-off.
  • Creator's Pest: Miss Calamity's absence in the second season was due to Chorion's dislike of her.
  • Descended Creator: Mr. Messy's American voice actor Peter Rida Michail, is also the show's production designer.
  • Early Draft Tie-In: The online pinball game uses Mr. Persnickety's original design.
  • Edited for Syndication: In every foreign version of the episodes (excluding Japanese), certain segments were cut from the original US release. (eg. Mr. Quiet's segment from "Night" about noises that make him scared).
  • Executive Meddling:
    • Mr. Fussy being recolored and named like his book counterpart was due to Chorion disliking his original self.
    • Eryk Casemiro stated that Cartoon Network wanted the series to be more "boy-centric", so they trimmed down the female cast.
    • Mark Risley said that Little Miss Calamity's removal from the show's second season is due to Chorion's dislike of her.
  • Franchise Killer: The commercial failure of the series when it aired on Cartoon Network in the US, including its scant promotion, its awkward timeslot and a Denser and Wackier tone that bore little to no resemblance to the source material (some characters even being In Name Only interpretations of their namesakes, including two existing characters that were gender-swapped), essentially killed off further attempts at adapting the Mr. Men franchise to television, although the books themselves are still going strong to this day. All Mr. Men animations released since have been television commercials or short Internet videos, which have more or less kept the art style and designs of the original books. However, in 2021, it was announced a new series is being produced.
  • Friday Night Death Slot: When the show first aired on Cartoon Network, brand new episodes would be on 9 in the morning and repeat again in 1:30 in the afternoon. But in the second season, they pushed it to 11:30 and only aired it once. This is most likely one of the reasons the show got canceled as kids wouldn't watch the show during school hours. Not helping that unlike the first season, it never got repeats due to the shift changes with the network.
  • He Also Did: Peter Rida Michail, the voice of Mr. Messy, is currently working in the art department for Teen Titans Go!, and has also written and directed several episodes.
    • Jeff Stewart, the voice of Mr. Tickle, was briefly a storyboard artist for Family Guy and King of the Hill, as well as an assistant director in the former and a layout artist in the latter.
  • International Coproduction: The show was animated by Renegade Animation with Chorion involved with the production. Both Cartoon Network and Channel 5 are part of as well.
  • Invisible Advertising: For the American airing, the show was hardly advertised by Cartoon Network.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • The US only has three DVD's with six episodes from the first season, meaning you're gonna have only 1/4 of the first season, while 1/8 of the entire show. Many of the Season 1 uploads on YouTube are in 4:3, even though the show was produced in widescreen. In fact, for a while, many of the show's episodes were thought to be lost.
    • Partially averted with the UK - the official Mr. Men Little Miss channel has HD remastered UK episodes on their channel free to stream at any time. This also inverts Bad Export for Younote . Unfortunately, the channel stopped updating in February 2017, meaning (for US natives at least) the UK dub of Pests is missing.
    • The official sites for the show have been shut down since 2013, meaning that the exclusive videos made for it are gone. note . The only sites you can go to are the Japanese and Irish Gaelic sites, which are still accessible as of 2016, though the videos don't work.
    • The official blog of the show's production is lost sometime after the show was done. You can view it through Internet Archives, though it's often buggy.
    • The Portuguese, German and Spanish dubs of the show have only been confirmed by pictures or articles, and cannot be found in any form.
  • Kids' Meal Toy: It has collectible figurines at Arby's.
  • Market-Based Title: In Israel, it was called "Mr. Happy's Show". In Portugal... "The Super Presenter".
  • No Export for You:
    • In East Asia, while the show has been dubbed into Japanese and Korean for Japan and Korea respectively, the show, sadly, has never been aired in Hong Kong (or Taiwan) at all.
    • In Europe, the only countries that aired the show are the home country of United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Russia and Greece.
    • Outside of the United Kingdom, the five other English-speaking countries that aired the show are the United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and thus the show's availability in English-speaking countries excludes Singapore despite the character's popularity (see below).
    • No Southeast Asian country, including Singapore, officially released the show, despite Mr. Men characters being popular there. The show is also not available in Latin America.
  • Old Shame: A fan did an interview with series director Mark Risley about the series and he told the fan to stop asking about the series and to run outside and be with family, claiming the production details "aren't all that important".
    • Risley also not only refused to answer some questions but immediately cut the fan off and bid him farewell in his first initial interview. Another fan also came in contact with Risley revealing that he refuses to answer questions involving the deep production of the show such as the lack of unions (SAG, DGA) due to legal reasons. This may be the reason why Risley was hostile and resistant during exchanges with his fans.
  • Out of Order: While the show isn't much into continuity, in terms of which episodes were made during production is a bit messy. When the show first started in its home country, some episodes that were finished later actually aired first before the earlier ones do. Even some of the stories were paired up with different episodes when first aired (Rainy Day was the first story to be paired with Trains instead of Amusement Park). Later Cartoon Network airings placed the right stories that were suppose to be paired up.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Rob Rackstraw took over as Mr. Happy from Simon Greenall in Season 2 in the UK.
    • Jo Wyatt's roles were given to other actresses after she left. These include:
      • Miss Sunshine and Miss Helpful (Emma Tate)
      • Miss Naughty: (Teresa Gallagher)
      • Miss Scary: (Alex Kelly)
  • Outdated by Canon:Prior to the release of Season 2, fans of the show drew some of the characters like Mr. Tall, Mr. Funny, Miss Magic, Miss Bossy, Miss Giggles and Miss Curious with the Season 1, though the former 6 were depicted in the classic style (Miss Curious and Mr. Funny being the most drastic looking out of the 6). Also, because of it Mr. Funny is depicted as a talking wise cracker, unlike later in Season 2 where he doesn't speak and only honks.
  • Playing Against Type: In the UK, Mr. Bump is voiced by Simon Greenall, a.k.a Captain freaking Barnacles.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: Around the time Season 2 aired, there was quite a bit of conjecture as to why Miss Calamity was removed. One explanation that was the most plausible was that Chorion wanted to focus more on the Hargreaves characters. Another is that she was getting her own spin-off called "What a Calamity!" A third was that kids didn't understand what the word "calamity" meant. One unsavory rumor was that her removal was demanded by feminists who didn't take kindly to a female character being subjected to the same amount of slapstick as Mr. Bump. Eventually, it was revealed she was removed because Chorion flat-out hated her character.
  • Quietly Cancelled: After the last episode "Bad Weather/Pests" aired, the show only updated the official website with Miss Magic and Giggles added in with no announcements for a third season on the production blog. It's likely that the show was canceled due to multiple factors; bad time slot, lack of merchandise and this was around the time Cartoon Network was ending a lot of productions due to its transition at the time.
  • Reclusive Artist: No less than five of the show's voice actors used pseudonyms for their credits in the show:
    • For a while, Mr. Bump's actor was credited as "Aaron Albertus", but the name led to nowhere. It wasn't until the credits for Yo-kai Watch: The Movie where it's confirmed that his voice actor was actually Paul Greenberg, who had previously played several minor roles in TV series, including Invader Zim. Seeing as how the show is non-union and Greenberg is a SAG actor, he had to use a pseudonym for voice credits but since he freelance wrote for the show, his real name was allowed for writing credits.
    • The name for Miss Bossy and Miss Curious' actress Sophie Roberts leads to a pseudonym of Michelle Roberts, but she stated that she never worked for the show. It was later revealed by Cheryl Chase's LinkedIn page that she was the voice to Miss Bossy (unsurprising given who Chase is best known for voicing, whose series Risley did storyboarding for).
    • The name "Danny Katiana" for Mr. Nosy's voice actor was ambiguous for several years, until it was revealed that it was yet another pseudonym, this time for Rick Zieff (best known as Shusuke Amagai from Bleach).
  • Release Date Change: According to these promos released by Martin West, the show was going to air on October 5th, 2007, but was changed four months later. Though Eryk Casemiro stated they didn't start production until April 2007 (the writing started in 2006) and finished at the end of the year as they were getting the greenlight from Cartoon Network after the Bomb Scare.
  • Same Language Dub: Both the US and UK releases of the show has different VA sets. Only Mr. Rude and Mr. Scatterbrain are the characters to keep their voices in both regions.
  • Screwed by the Network: A lot of fans were expecting a third season, which sadly never came to be due to the show's lackluster success. Didn't help that Cartoon Network only aired the show on weekday mornings and afternoons, where most children were in school, and constantly pre-empted it for morning movie airings along with the TV show of The Land Before Time. By the time the first season finished, it was banished to one weekend morning airing right after [adult swim], outside of movie filler (even then Tom and Jerry would usually take that job), and the barely-advertised second season had few, if any, reruns after it concluded.
    • Averted with the UK's airing of the show. It even managed to survive Viacom's takeover of Channel 5!
  • Star-Making Role: In the Japanese dub, this was Yuki Ono's star making role.
  • Uncredited Role: Prudence Alcott, the lady who voiced Miss Calamity, wasn't shown on other websites. Mark Risley couldn't give it away due to the fact that the voice actors were in the group so they cannot have their names credited legally.
  • Unspecified Role Credit:
    • Only the main cast is credited, meaning some characters, like the robots and aliens that appear in the show are not credited. Fans guess that Mr. Grumpy's robot share the same voice as himself (obviously), and Herbie Homemaker is voiced by Mr. Tickle.
    • Even then, some of the actors were using pseudonyms that can never be traced. Like with Yo-kai Watch (both shows were directed and voice-directed by Mark Ristley), it wasn't until later much later when Twitter feeds state that some of the actors' real names (Mr. Scatterbrain's voice actor). This was because both shows were non-union records, although Yo-Kai Watch became an expansive SAG production until season 3, which led to the Twitter reveals.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • According to Eryk Casemiro, he had the idea of the show back in The '90s and wanted to do it with Broadway Video as Lorne Michaels wanted a kid show in his library, but the Hargreaves and Michaels couldn't get along and that was replaced with Mr. Men and Little Miss instead.
    • When the show was going to air on October 2007, the airtime was going to be 4PM.
    • Quite a bit of characters had some different color choices or different pieces of clothing. Mr. Quiet was going to be green, while Miss Helpful had pink hair. Mr. Fussy had a tweed vest, as shown in the pinball game and storyboards for Paint. Miss Calamity had a different shade of orange and different shoes.
    • Little Miss Fun from the books appears in the back covers of the American videos and books. Whenever or not she was meant to be part of the second season or what going to be a future season is unknown. Though Mark Risley stated they never planned to, meaning she may have been an Advertised Extra to replace Miss Calamity.
    • In the storyboard for "Paint", Miss Calamity fell into the paint machine due to a fallen piece of ceiling, which was caused from the shaking machine.
    • There was a deleted storyboard in "Jobs" where Mr. Lazy was having a daydream sequence, similar to what he had in "Boats".
    • The episode "Post Office" was originally going to be called "Mail".
    • An animatic of "Beach" that was leaked to YouTube reveals that Mr. Small's voice actor was the original narrator of the series as opposed to Mr. Fussy's, and in said episode, Mr. Fussy (then Mr. Persnickety) would have worn a 1920s swimsuit.
    • Little Miss Twins and Little Miss Fickle were going to be part of the cast, but Cartoon Network didn't want too many female characters at the time. Additionally, a character named Little Miss Fabulous was also considered being created for the show before a character with the same name was created for the books nearly a decade later.
    • On Renegade Animations' sizzle reel on their 2020 website update, the logo had Mr. Tickle.
  • Written by Cast Member: "Amusement Park" and "Dillydale Day" were written by Paul Greenberg, who voiced Mr. Bump and Mr. Quiet.
