  • Approval of God:
    • Here's Naoya Inoue himself paying homage to Hajime no Ippo in turn by landing Volg's White Fang on a sparring partner.
    • Prior to his passing the same year, Anime Herald reached out to Éder Jofrenote  in 2022 through his daughter Andrea to learn about how he feels about being part of the Hajime no Ippo lorenote . He replied:
      "I feel highly honored to be mentioned in the manga, I see that I have admirers in Japan and that I can still be a reference to young people to this day."
    • Michael B. Jordan admits to paying homage to and being inspired by Hajime no Ippo. He's been referencing the anime and manga since the first Creed movie.
  • Bonus Episode: The DVD release of Hajime No Ippo's first season contains the 76th episode, which tells the story of how Takamura started boxing.
  • Completely Different Title: The anime is also known as Knockout in the Philippines for the Tagalog-language dub on GMA Network.
  • Life Imitates Art: Miyata's Jolt Counter was actually used in a Real Life boxing match by Juan Manuel Marquez to knock Manny Pacquiao out cold in the sixth round.
  • Late Export for You: The Mashiba vs. Kimura OVA wasn't licensed in North America until Discotek Media confirmed they licensed it in 2020.
  • Long-Runners: The manga been going on, as of 2019, for thirty years and counting.
  • No Export for You: The first anime series was released in the United States as Fighting Spirit, but the manga has yet to be released there/here. The second and third anime were also not released there/here due to a combination of Fighting Spirit not selling well and Geneon closing its US doors.
  • The Other Darrin: In the Latin American Spanish dub:
    • Sergio Gutiérrez Coto replaced his brother Andres Gutierrez Coto as the voice of Umezawa in some episodes.
    • Kumi Mashiba was voiced by Maggie Vera at first. From episode 51 onwards, she was voiced by María Fernanda Morales.
    • The ring announcer was voiced throughout most of the series by sports commentator Jaime Jañez, except from episodes 46 to 50, where Jañez was replaced by the voice actor Salvador Najar.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Recast as a Regular: Two of Ippo's rivals were cases of this in the Latin American Spanish dub:
    • Irwin Daayán had a minor role as Matsuda, one of Umezawa's goons, before coming back as Takeshi Sendo.
    • Kenta Kobashi was voiced by José Gilberto Vilchis, who would later come back to voice Volg Zangief.

  • You Sound Familiar: In the Latin American Spanish dub:
    • Enzo Fortuny and José Luis Orozco first appeared as Ippo's two initial opponents, Yusuke Oda and Jason Ozuma, respectively. They would later return voicing Akira Shigeta and his trainer.
