Trivia / Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake

Go To

  • Character Aged with the Actor: The spin-off shows the audience the adult versions of Finn and his Farmworld counterpart, likely to coincide with their voice actor, Jeremy Shada, also being an adult (after voicing Finn in the series since the age of 13). Farmworld Finn is especially notable, with him having a deeper voice and now being a father.
  • Colbert Bump: The inclusion of kendall :3's "blue shift" in the finale saw its YouTube view count spike up to just under 80k, compared to the rest of the album's songs with an average of 1k or less.
  • Crossdressing Voices: The male Scarab is voiced by Kayleigh McKee, a transgender woman.
  • The Other Darrin: According to Adam Muto, due to production of the series resuming after the COVID-19 pandemic alongside some other complications, they were forced to recast certain characters for the series.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • Erica Mendez was a huge fan of the Fionna and Cake episodes of the original series before she voiced one of the skater fairies in both Fionna's world and in the Land of Ooo as well as one of the Ice scouts.
    • Kayleigh McKee grew up watching Adventure Time as a huge fan of the series before being casted as Scarab, the main antagonist of the miniseries.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Andrew Rannells, who is gay, voices Gary Prince, who is in a relationship with Marshall Lee.
  • Refitted for Sequel:
    • Prior to the spin-off's production, Muto wanted to make a Distant Lands special featuring Simon as the main focus, as well as a standalone special with Fionna and Cake, but those plans were axed after the staff was only given four specials to work with. Both ideas were reworked into the spin-off.
    • The temple seen at the beginning of "Cake The Cat" is a tweaked version of Birdman's temple from the scrapped season one episode of the original show "The Helmet of Thorogon".
    • Prismo being the true creator of Fionna's universe was something planned for the scrapped Season 10 of the original show before its abrupt cancellation.
    • Pawn Swan, the futuristic version of Choose Goose seen in concept art made by Steve Wolfhard after the release of "Come Along With Me", finally appears in "Casper and Nova". Similarly, many of the Pups he created in the concept art also appear in Freeze-Frame Bonus shots of the Pup Kingdom windows.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Much like what happened with Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites, the production staff cut all ties to Justin Roiland after his charges of domestic abuse and several allegations regarding his behavior came to light, with his role as Lemongrab recasted with Jinkx Monsoon.
  • Role Reprise:
  • Throw It In!: The brief depiction in "Cheers" of Simon naked in Shermy's headspace while Shermy's inner self plays video games was originally drawn by Steve Wolfhard as a joke, but he was happy to see it make it into the episode.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In "Cake The Cat", the scene with the Minerva Bot was originally going to be longer with Cake entering the alley with the Minerva Bot approaching her and offering to help her out. When she shows her hand to Cake however, it would have flipped open with a fish inside and scared Cake to jump off of Up-Ton while the Minerva Bot would have asked if she didn't like fish.
    • During "Prismo the Wishmaster" when Prismo was explaining how he's created Fionna and Cake's universe, the screen of Prismo's computer was supposed to be shown to the audience along with the program that he used to do so instead of just showing the fistbump between Fionna and Cake.
    • During "Cheers" when Scarab starts deleting Fionna's universe, there was going to be a scene of Ellis P sending his squirrels to attack Scarab, only for them to be easily deleted to Ellis' horror. After this, Hunter would have consoled him and they would have gone to his secret garden in the park, only for it to already be deleted as Hunter almost falls off the edge as he mourns the loss of his garden.
    • Adam Muto stated in an interview that they were originally thinking of making a whole episode set in the universe of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack after the cameo in "Prismo the Wishmaster" before deciding against it.
    • The last shot of "Cheers" was originally going to have a scene with Huntress Wizard in her treehouse, but it was cut for unknown reasons.
  • Word of God:
    • Steve Wolfhard revealed that the baby universe is a wish alternate universe by BMO.
    • It was also stated that the Finn of Winter King's world is probably still alive (and, as expected, missing an arm), and had to defeat the Lich (who was sealed by the Winter King) once the crown's power disappeared, setting him free.
