Nightmare Fuel / Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake

Go To

Adventure Time didn't shy away from being Darker and Edgier as its plot goes, even by the standards of a children show. Fionna and Cake, on the other hand, isn't bound by the same ratings as the main series, so there's gonna be more screams and twisted reactions than ever.

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

    "Fionna Campbell"
  • There's a strange sense of wrongness throughout the first episode. From the Betty statue, to the dreams everyone's been having. You get the feeling something is very VERY off here, but can't figure out what.
    • Speaking of dreams, Fern's counerpart's are apparently too messed up to speak about. What exactly was happening in Fionna's world before it lost its magic?!
    "Simon Petrikov"
    "Cake the Cat"
    "Prismo the Wishmaster"
    "Destiny"
    "The Winter King"
  • Fionna accidentally kills the alternate Simon when she glitches the magic out of his Ice Crown while kissing him, causing the alternate Simon to rapidly age until turning to dust upon hitting the ground, and the main Simon can only watch in horror.
    • And if the Candy Queen doesn't freak you out, then her candy creatures will. The candy people are normally amusing yet relatable Anthropomorphic Food. The same cannot be said for these guys as they are all terribly disfigured and act completely animalistic. And what's worse, just like their Queen, they are also Brainwashed and Crazy, meaning when Fionna, Cake, and the Ice Scouts slaughter them, they are all completely unaware that they aren't themselves.
    • Speaking of the Candy Queen, she does get one extremely terrifying moment. She tries to throw the two versions of Simon into a giant blender. Don't get us wrong, the Ice King has done some pretty devious things, but at least he never tried to murder his hostages.
    • Fionna, Cake, and Simon barely escape from Scarab after the Winter Kingdom melts, causing the bounty hunter to scream in frustration and show a glimpse of his real face. It's not pretty.
    "The Star"
  • We see what would have happened if Simon died and the Vampire King found Marceline and the Ice Crown, and it's terrifying. The King has used the crown to create dark clouds to blot out the sun, and Marceline is a Psychopathic Womanchild and his chief minion with a twisted relationship with Bonnie. Even Fionna admits that this world is very horrifying after she is nearly eaten by the vampires several times.
    • The alternate Martin Mertens' death. Firstly, Marceline sucks his soul with her demonic powers, and then she drains him of all his blood, leaving him a shriveled, empty husk. Fionna can only watch in horror, and then when Marceline attempts to do the same to her, she's too scared to even run away and save herself, needing to be rescued by Cake at the last moment.
    • There's also the fact that the Finn from the Baby Universe was left behind by the trio in Bonnie's overturned tank, and no mention is made of him even after the episode's ending. Considering the non-vampire population is mentioned to be dwindling by the day and is now left with no one to protect them, things do not bode well for the little guy. Luckily, fate smiles down upon him and he’s one of the people brought into the Fionna and Cake world, along with Peppermint Tank.
    "Jerry"
  • The main trio ends up in a version of Ooo created by The Lich's wish to wipe out all life, with a Freeze-Frame Bonus of one of that version's of Ice King's tapes showing him and Gunter going about their usual routine, only for them to be instantly reduced to skeletons. The only beings left in Ooo are BMO (who had been undergoing Sanity Slippage before his demise), and the Lich himself, who has been filled with ennui as, after finally achieving his purpose, he has no idea what to do next, not even bothering to kill Simon, Fionna, and Cake after seeing them. Then, when Simon and Scarab get sucked through a portal at the end of the episode, what looks like GOLB's face appears in his eye socket...
    "Casper and Nova"
  • Fionna and Cake's Catapult Nightmare. She and Cake arrive in their home world, which seemingly had its magic return. Eventually, however, reality unravels: Gary turned into a hideous gum monster, Marshall Lee a monstrous vampire who burns in the sunlight, LSP being turned into spaghetti and eaten by squirrels, and the entire world being a horrific hellscape. When they get into their apartment, Fionna finds in the freezer a frozen, horribly contorted Simon asking if this world was worth making him the Ice King.
  • The Lich meets a gruesome fate as GOLBetty angrily answers his demands for an answer by painfully crushing and deforming all of his bones, trapping his skull inside his body remains and quickly turning him into one of the green lifeless platforms surrounding her in the void, with the implication that this isn't the first time she has done it.
    "Cheers"
  • Scarab starts using his crystal to just straight-up erase big chunks of Fionna and Cake's world.
    • Once Fionna and Cake's world becomes an official part of the multiverse, Scarab goes on a rampage, deciding to tear it apart manually out of sheer spite.
