Air Turtle

  • Brick Joke: In a throwaway line, Leo says he looked to the Dunk as a surrogate father. In the third act, The Dunk says he looked at Leo like a surrogate son.
  • Egocentric Team Naming: The Daves have their current name because an apparent Cloud Cuckoo Lander won the right to rename them whatever he wanted.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The Daves have these when they pass under the mystic arch.
  • Group Hug: The gang has one when Leo apologizes for his behavior.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: A retroactive example. Leo is shown at the beginning of the episode to be a ball-hog, often using his teammate Donnie as a step stool to make shots. A flashback in the final battle reveals that Donnie is terrible at basketball, which explains this habit.
  • Magic Feather: Leo suggests that the Daves employ these to perform better, stating he even has one himself in the form of a rock. He explains that works by "changing your mojo." Unfortunately, the Dunk takes that last part too seriously.
  • Shout-Out: While under the influence of the mystic arch, the Daves move in a manner similar to The Exorcist during the game.
  • You're Just Jealous: Leo claims this about his brothers and April when they point out something is wrong with the Daves. He's forced to eat his words right after.

Pizza Puffs

  • Anger Born of Worry: The reason why Raph is always yelling at his brothers in this episode is because they keep eating the pizza puffs despite knowing they’re poisonous and he’s worried something horrible might happen if they keep eating them.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: A literal taste in this cause. The turtles feed Meat Sweats his now puffs, causing him to mutate.
  • Big "NO!": Raph gives one when he thinks his brothers eat the last pizza puff, preventing them from finding a cure by analyzing it.
  • Body Horror: In addition to the turtles' mutations below, Meat Sweats grows numerous extra heads and his body swells horrifically.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Meat Sweats being attacked by a some sort of shadow monster.
  • Expy: Meat Sweats’ rival Guy Flambé bears a striking resemblance to Guy Fieri in both name and appearance.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Raph is the responsible sibling who’s dealing with his foolish younger brothers’ antics. He repeatedly tries to get his brothers to be more involved with the mission to stop Meat Sweats instead of doing it all himself.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Raph shows off the mission chart, he naturally has the most stars. However, closer inspection reveals that Donnie has three stars, Mikey has two, and Leo barely has a full star.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Raph's superhero name is the Red Angel of Preventing Harm, or R.A.P.H.
  • Kicking My Own Butt: Twice in the episode Raph literally beats himself up. The first time happens offscreen when he’s debating whether to help his brothers out in the climax.
  • Mutagenic Goo: The pizza puffs are tainted with a mystic poison. They cause Leo to randomly catch on fire, make Mikey's bones soften, and cause Donnie to grow a face on his stomach, which he nicknames Tummytello.
  • Only Sane Man: Raph is the only one who is aware that the pizza puffs are dangerous. He becomes increasingly more agitated with his brothers as they continue to eat the puffs despite knowing they’re laced with poison.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: When his brothers continue to eat the pizza puffs, Raph eventually says this line: “Stop. Eating. THE POISON!
  • Running Gag: Several: Raph talking to himself, the other turtles claiming Raph will take care of things, as well as revealing they have more pizza puffs.
  • Sick Episode: Downplayed in that it's not the focus of the episode, but Leo develops flu-like symptoms from eating the puffs, such as double vision and cold sweats.
  • Talking to Themself: Raph openly debates whether or not to bail out his brothers because he wants them to learn responsibility. He even beat himself up offscreen over it.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Raph's brothers eat the bag of pizza puffs despite Raph locking the bag away and writing "do not eat" on the bag itself. Raph calls them out on this.
  • Tough Love: Raph’s reason for being harsh on his brothers in this episode is because they’re irresponsible and they always fall back on him to take care of everything. He hopes that by forcing them to do the mission will teach them some responsibility. Fortunately, he succeeds.
  • You Meddling Kids: When Raph ruins his scam, Meat Sweats says he'd have gotten away with it if weren't for "you pesky turtle."
