Bait-and-Switch: Red Fox jumps in slow motion, seemingly intending to shut off a black hole bomb. Instead, he unties Jupiter Jim so he can switch it off.
Big Damn Heroes: When Raph and Marcus are captured by Scor-Pion, the rest of the turtles show up and deactivate the bombs. Then, when the trapped duo are about to fall in acid, Red Fox saves them.
Call-Back: Raph explicitly mentions their last encounter with Marcus.
Raph: You mean the one you kidnapped? Like how you kidnapped everyone else?
Clark Kenting: Red Fox didn't realize the turtles were real mutants until Leo took off his fanny pack. And no, they weren't wearing any sort of disguise.
Easily Forgiven: With the exception of Raph, the turtles have forgiven Marcus for his kidnapping spree.
Hypocrite: Raph clearly wants nothing to do with Marcus, and sits out the sidekick trials. However, he's ecstatic when he wins, shamelessly admitting he didn't care until he won.
Smoke Out: Subverted. Upon being defeated, Scor-Pion attempts this, but forgets to actually move before the smoke clears. Donnie lampshades this.
Stop Hitting Yourself: Leo wears a mech suit while facing Donnie in a sparring match. Donnie calls Leo's phone, and in trying to answer it, Leo knocks himself out with the mech's huge hands.
String Theory: Marcus has one of these put together to track down Scor-Pion.
Title Drop: Leo yells "Sidekick Ahoy!" during the trials.
Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: Marcus makes Raph his new sidekick just because red is his main color. He didn't even participate in the games.
Brick Joke: At the start of the episode, Leo decides on a Hawaiian pizza as an apology gift for Donnie. The episode ends with them eventually eating it, only for Donnie to be disgusted by it.
Fusion Dance: Piel and Hueso fuse into an attractive latino man.
