Go To

When Gideon jumps the time machine into the Manor Dimension, which lands in Hell, and Astra realizes that a damned 90's reality show crew sneaks into the manor causing havoc. Unbeknownst to the Legends, the reality TV crew is causing emotions to spike, and Sara and Ava share their true feelings about their roles as Co-Captains. Behrad seeks advice about Astra from Nate and Zari, but Behrad finds that his past is put on display instead. Meanwhile, when Gideon's opinions are ignored and her relationship with Gary is dismissed, no one could have anticipated what happens.

Tropes:

  • Almost Kiss: Despite professing his crush on her, Behrad opts out of a kiss with Astra, wanting things to start slower.
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: During his emotional rant, Behrad also tells Astra about wanting to ask her out.
  • Antagonist Title: The episode shares its name with Harris' production company.
  • Aren't You Going to Ravish Me?: Zari becomes offended at how reluctant Nate is about the idea of sleeping with her
Nate: You and me, that's crazy. Never in a million years.
Zari: Yeah, I mean, you know, because we're just friends, 'cause, obviously, I'm... I'm genetically identical to your girlfriend, so I understand why you would unconsciously be drawn to me.
Nate: To be honest, just the idea of it is, like, kind of, like, blah.
Zari: [nervous laugher] Okay. Okay. Uh, not to, like, press the issue, but look at me. I dress better than her. I live in your timeline. In fact, the only real difference between us is our personalities. And, surely, you're not saying that I, the person who you called your time bro-ette not 20 minutes ago, have a bad personality. Surely not.
Nate: Did I say "never in a million years"? I meant to say never in ten million years!
  • Artistic License – History: Saving Archduke Franz Ferdinand would almost certainly do nothing to prevent World War I from breaking out. At the most, it would delay it by a bit, and then some other event would trigger a similar domino-chain of allied empires declaring war on each other. The Archduke's assassination was more the trigger than the cause of the war.
  • Being Watched: The Legends feel like this during their time on the mansion, before the Cursed Crew reveals themselves.
  • Big "WHAT?!": All the Legends at the end of the episode, when Gideon announces her plan to confront Evil Gideon involves saving Archduke Ferdinand.
  • Brain Bleach: Needed by the Legends when they walk in on Gary and Gideon's tryst, having varied reactions. And when Gideon offers to elaborate, they all scream no. It's worth noting that before the lights went on, Sara and Ava reacted to what they thought was Gary pleasuring himself.
  • Cassandra Truth: Nobody believes Gary when he tells the team that Gideon intends to jump them into a tornado, forcing him to eat a part of the time machine, causing the team to try and kill him.
  • Censored for Comedy: Because they're being broadcast in Hell, all mentions of Christianity and God are censored out. This is most evident when Gwyn says grace at dinner.
  • Character Development: Behrad is given an arc in this episode that focuses on him sobering up and growing past just being a chill stoner.
  • Covered in Gunge: The Cursed Crew tips a bucket filled with red liquid on Nate and Zari. It looks like paint, but knowing where they are, Zari gets worried it might be something else and they both quickly strip and search for something else to wear.
  • Curse Escape Clause: The camera crew filming the Legends were cursed by a Deal with the Devil to serve in Hell until they film a sincere moment of emotion, which their manufactured conflicts prevent from ever happening. That is, until the resistant-to-reality-show-tricks Behrad gives a heartfelt speech at the climax, freeing them all to their surprise.
  • Deal with the Devil: The Cursed Crew made a deal with the demon Harris Ledes in order to get a hit reality show. As such, they become contractually bound to him and forced to be his camera crew.
  • The Dreaded: Both the receptionist and Harris Ledes immediately fall in line when Astra arrives at the company. However, when they find out about her Heel–Face Turn, this comes to an abrupt end.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When the Legends find Gideon and Gary in bed, Zari comments that it feels like they're on a bad reality TV show, causing Astra to realize that they're dealing with the Cursed Crew.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Gideon, after Ledes manipulates her into suppressing her emotions once more, starts dressing in dark clothes and changes her hair into a ponytail.
  • Exact Words: Gwyn extracts a promise from Sara that he can save one person using Time Travel. Sara conceded because she believes he wants to save his lover, but it turns out that the person Gwyn wanted to save was Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which would prevent World War I from happening.
  • Food Slap: When Zari summons Zari Tomaz to settle her dispute with Nate, Zari Tomaz's reaction to their fight is to throw wine at them to get them to shut up.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Nate gives Gary a quick thumbs-up of approval while the rest of the Legends start walking in and finding Gideon and Gary in bed.
  • Hidden Depths: Double subverted; the demon in charge of running the show tries to dig into Behrad's feelings to find some hidden dark side, only to be sorely disappointed that he's sincerely as nice as he presents. At the climax, Behrad gives a heartfelt speech about how he adapted to being on a reality show for as long as he could remember by becoming as unflappably chill as possible.
  • Hypocrite: Gideon calls out the Legends on being this in regards to how they doubt her and Gary's relationship being good for the team, when their own relationships managed to balance with the team dynamic just fine.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Gideon, who used to be an Artificial Intelligence with whom the Legends would often confide, says that she doesn't want to share her emotions with a disembodied voice.
  • Internal Reveal: The other Legends learn about Gary and Gideon's romance when they catch them in bed.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: The Legends end up walking in on Gideon and Gary while they're having sex.
  • It's All My Fault: Gideon blames herself for getting the crew stranded in Hell. Gary quickly cheers her up.
  • Jerkass Realization: The rest of the team, after Gary makes them realize that their reaction to his and Gideon's relationship is what caused her to suppress her emotions again. They all apologize.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Gideon, after suppressing her emotions, plays mind games with the rest of the Legends, turning them against each other.
  • Modesty Bedsheet: Gideon and Gary are covered by a bedsheet on the scenes of them having sex in bed. One Talking in Bed scene has the sheet just barely covering Gary, but Gideon always keeps the sheet up to her neck.
  • Monster of the Week: Harris Ledes and his Cursed Crew are the antagonists of the episode.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Zari is seen in a bra in one scene.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Gideon reacts with horror about her deeds after coming to her senses again.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Under the influence of the cursed reality show, Spooner becomes a naked survivalist, much to everyone else's discomfort. Even after the curse is broken, she doesn't get dressed for awhile, due to how comfortable it is.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Gwyn opening up the Mansion's door while they are in Hell (which he doesn't know) causes the Cursed Crew to be able to sneak in.
    • Behrad sneaking after Astra screws up her plan to intimidate Harris Ledes into stopping his show.
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Immediately after arriving, Gwyn immediately wants to go back for Bishop.
  • Not Himself: The Legends come under the influence of a damned camera crew that exaggerates their emotions for entertainment in Hell. Everyone except Behrad and Astra gradually warps into a melodramatic caricature of a reality show character, and they quickly start fighting with each other.
  • Nudity Equals Honesty: Spooner invokes this as part of her "strategy" to "win" the reality TV game, taking off all her clothes and becoming a Home Nudist in the manor. The others are baffled by this, and keep asking her to Please Put Some Clothes On.
    Gwyn: Being naked is strategy?
Spooner: You know, it psyches the other players out. You know, everyone trusts the naked guy, because what could they be hiding?
  • Oh, Crap!: Gary, when Gideon tells the team that they should all just go back to the time machine and she'll get them out of there. She uses the expression "It'll be a breeze.", which makes him realize that she intends to jump them into a tornado (something they spoke about at the beginning, before she suppressed her emotions).
  • Only Sane Man: Behrad finally snaps the team out of their script by giving them a heartfelt speech.
  • Pixellation: The naked survivalist Spooner usually has her naughty bits blurred out by pixellation.
  • Please Put Some Clothes On: Gwyn's first reaction to seeing a naked Spooner.
  • Revealing Hug: Gideon, when hugging Zari.
  • Sad Clown: Behrad reveals that he is carrying quite a lot of emotional baggage and isn't as chill and fun-loving as he lets on.
  • Scenery Censor: While averted for most of the episode, as Spooner's nudity is simply blurred out), at the very end a plant obscures her.
  • Shoulders-Up Nudity: The naked survivalist Spooner is often shot with an angle that only shows her from above the shoulders.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Apparently the Tarazis are the Kardashians of the Arrowverse, as they had a show called "Keeping Up with the Tarazis".
    • Spooner says she's a huge fan of Survivor.
  • Special Edition Title: With a fiery design, due to the episode being set in Hell.
  • Taught by Television: Spooner considers herself a specialist in survival reality TV because she watched 40 seasons of Survivor.
  • Title Drop: The Demon Receptionist works for Harris Ledes, at Lowest Common Demoninator Productions.
  • Too Much Information: Combined with Comically Missing the Point. When the Legends ask Gary and Gideon how long their fling has been going on, Gideon attempts to tell them how long they've been at it during their current sex session.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: Zari and Nate end up having a lot of this due to the Cursed Crew trying to invoke a friends-to-lovers relationship on them for their show. It starts with them getting Distracted by the Sexy after they get Covered in Gunge and have to take off their shirts in front of each other. But the shirts they find just so happen to make them look like each other's old Love Interests (Zari like Zari Tomaz and Nate like Constantine) which also makes them more attractive to each other leading to an Almost Kiss. They both think they're Better as Friends, but Zari becomes offended of how much Nate doesn't want to sleep with her, causing them to fight.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: The original Zari reacts with nonchalance when she is told that they are in Hell.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After all the madness is done, Gary is quick to call everyone out for dismissing Gideon's reasoning and autonomy at the beginning, and disregarding their budding romance as a distraction.
  • Visual Pun: During the dinner sequence, Dark!Gideon—who up to that point has been setting up conflict between the Legends—can be seen in the background smugly stirring a pot as all the chaos is going down.
