Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 2 E 17 Honor Thy Ed

Go To

After their taco scam goes wrong, the Eds find themselves inside an old abandoned house as part of a dare Eddy made with Kevin. When nothing seemingly is suspicious about the house, the Eds fool the kids into thinking they are under attack, to their horror and then anger when Ed gives away the trick. But when they end up locked in the house and strange things start to occur, they might need actual help they are unlikely to get.

The episode provides examples of:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Nazz is the only one shown expressing amusement when the Kids realize the Eds tricked them about being in danger.
  • All for Nothing: Even if they hadn't been trapped by the Kankers, Eddy was never going to get the jawbreaker from Kevin after scaring him, as he's shown sucking on it himself as he leaves.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Sarah screams, "Someone help my idiot brother!" when she thinks Ed and the others are being attacked in the Haunted House.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: The Kankers force the Eds to marry them and then use them as horses to steer their wagon.
  • Batman Gambit:
    • The Kankers manage to lure the Eds onto the ride set up in their house by luring them with their favourite things, then trapping objects on their fingers to substitute wedding rings.
    • Kevin sets up the Scare Dare by promising Eddy a jawbreaker for going inside the haunted house.
  • Bigger on the Inside: The spooky house is already quite expansive, with all sorts of rooms and secret passages, but who knew that it was big enough to hold an entire roller coaster set up by the Kankers?
  • Blazing Inferno Hellfire Sauce: Eddy's Brother's "Armenian Secret Hot Sauce", which is so hot that the Eds try a small amount and have to immediately latch onto a nearby sprinkler to get rid of the burn.
  • Bookcase Passage: Used as a trap. In the library, Double D fixes a book poking out of a shelf, uknowingly triggering a trapdoor under his ladder. He steps right into it without even realizing.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Eddy's "tacos", if we can even call them that, are just folded paper plates topped with dandelions, grated orange crayons (the "cheese"), and hot sauce.
  • Cowardly Lion: Double D is the only Ed who's genuinely afraid of the house. Even his friends doing spooky voices are enough to get a fright out of him.
  • Crying Wolf: The Eds pretend they're being attacked by ghosts to fool the Kids. When they actually do start getting attacked in the house and call for help, nobody believes them.
  • Deadpan Snarker: This exchange:
Double D: Do you see anything, Eddy?
Eddy: Yeah, dark. Lots and lots of dark.
  • Detachable Doorknob: Eddy flicks a spider off the front door's doorknob, causing it to fall loose and roll into a hole in the floor. He tries to jimmy the latch open with his finger, but this only causes the knob on the other side to fall out, and his finger gets stuck.
  • The Dreaded: This line of dialogue brings up some… disturbing implications about Ed's father.
Edd: Oh dear, a shriek of terror!
    Ed: Dad's home!
  • Everyone Has Standards: The kids are genuinely horrified when they think the Eds are being attacked in the abandoned house. Kevin even outright admits that he'd take back everything he said about them.
  • Greed: Eddy initially refuses to go in the Haunted House... until Kevin offers a jawbreaker if he does.
  • Hall of Mirrors: After falling deeper into the house, the Eds stumble upon a room full of mirrors with amusingly-distorted reflections.
Double D: Is it me, or do our heads look like yams?
  • Haunted House: The main setting of the episode is a mysterious old house laying dormant in the middle of the neighborhood. It's not actually haunted, though some of the kids have their own speculations about it.
Jonny: It's the house of the mad logger who chops down trees and hacks them into coffee tables!
Rolf: Wait! This house is owned by the provoked opera singer who lures little boys and girls with enchanted arias!
  • I Can't Dance: Ed says this word for word when he and his friends learn that the Kankers have set up a wedding.
  • Literal-Minded: When the doorknob falls off the door, Double D cries, "Tell me that didn't happen!" Ed's response? "It didn't happen!"
  • Naked People Are Funny: The Kankers steal the Eds' clothes as part of their ruse.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Ed for giving away he was just playing with the Kids that the house is haunted.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: Unlike most examples, the Kankers actually succeed in marrying their "grooms".
  • Only One Finds It Fun: While Double D and Eddy scream with terror on the roller coaster, Ed has an absolute blast.
  • Pet the Dog: All of the kids, even Sarah and Kevin, were concerned for the Eds' safety when Ed and Eddy pretended they were being attacked inside the house.
  • A Rare Sentence: Eddy has one, "Help! The staircase is eating me!"
  • Scare Dare: The plot kicks off when Kevin dares Eddy to step into the house, promising a fresh jawbreaker if he agrees.
  • Schmuck Bait: The Kankers lure the Eds to their "wedding" using bait based on their particular likes: a box of Chunky Puffs for Ed, a trail of books for Double D, and a piggy bank for Eddy.
  • Skewed Priorities: As the Eds are forced to marry their respective Kanker, right after Lee announces them all husbands and brides, Ed asks his terrified friends if they think there will be a reception after the wedding.
  • Shout-Out: Kevin calls the Eds "the Dorkbusters".
  • Spoiler Title: The episode title seems to have some theme around marriage despite the fact it happens at the very end of the episode. Beforehand, the episode was more of a horror/suspense focused one.
  • Touché: When May and Marie put their "rings" on Ed and Double D (actually a soda can tab and a nut) Eddy brags there is no ring for him. Lee quickly tells him not to "play dumb" and points out he had his "ring" the whole time, pointing out the door lock he had stuck to his finger. Eddy can only grumble "man they're good".
  • Unwanted Spouse: The Eds end up being forced to marry their respective Kankers at the end of the episode, much to their horror.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: Edd attempts to do this with a yellow crayon after seeing Ed eat several beforehand and seemingly enjoying them. As it turns out, just saying a crayon tastes like a banana doesn't work unless you're Ed.
