Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 2 E 18 Scrambled Ed

Go To

After spending 14 hours and 7 minutes building a wooden replica of the Golden Gate Bridge, Edd falls asleep during the day when Ed and Eddy (and so the rest of the Cul-de-sac) need him badly.

Tropes

  • Artistic License – Biology: Plank can't grow a branch on his body like a pimple, he would have to be a tree who still has roots healthily planted in the ground. It could be why Edd was laughing at the sight.
  • Big Eater: Ed practically uses his own jacket as a refrigerator, as he pulls it out much like a fridge door and you can see eggs, sausages and a mustard bottle.
  • Butt-Monkey: Poor Edd is dragged and yanked around, beaten, shaken, pulled, pestered and along with Eddy almost drowned, all while barely functioning.
  • Deadpan Snarker: At the end of the episode, when Edd is finally forced to wake up for good after Eddy's antics floods the Cul-de-Sac, he's not impressed that Eddy is still insistent on continuing with his "Sea Ranch" scam.
    Edd: Persistent, aren't we?
  • Deep Sleep: Edd becomes incredibly sleepy after building a toothpick bridge overnight. Actions such as pinching his nose, taping his eyes open, dragging him against the ground, dropping him into a lake, and dropping a ton of supplies on him don't do much to wake him up.
  • Delayed Reaction: When Ed and Eddy bust into Edd's room to announce their scam idea, it takes them a few seconds to realize that Edd is asleep and therefore blissfully unaware of their idea— even though Edd is slumped over at his desk and audibly snoring.
  • Double Meaning: Edd told Ed and Eddy they need a pen (as in enclosure or exhibit) for the sea wildlife they're going to put in Ed's Sea Ranch. Ed assumes Edd meant the writing kind of pen, so he gives him a bottle of mustard that just so has a pencil inside it.
Eddy: (angry) He asked for a pen!!
Ed: He asked for mustard, Eddy. Do you have corn in your ears, mister? (Eddy gets even angrier)
  • Downer Ending: The Eds and the kids are stuck on wood rafts because the Eds flooded the whole Cul-de-sac either because of some flaw(s) in Edd's formulas building that Seaworld knock-off or because Ed and Eddy didn't fulfill Edd's instructions accurately. Nazz either gets the best or worst ending, since she may still have her house as sanctuary but the compression of all that water will mean she'll suffocate from loss of oxygen.
  • Even Beggars Won't Choose It: Despite being exhausted to the point of unconsciousness, Double-D refuses to use Ed's bed, which is not only so worn out there's a big hole in the middle, showing all the junk and filth underneath it (which includes a live snake), the blanket keeps standing by itself after Double-D lets go of it.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: A sleep-deprived Edd gets pink ones around his eyes that appear after Eddy shakes him roughly demanding to know where he and Ed can find sea creatures.
  • Exhaustion-Induced Idiocy: Edd's groggy ramblings lead to much fo the conflict in the episode as more people ask him for advice.
  • Foreshadowing: Rolf getting leaks in his carrot garden would indicate that Ed's Sea Ranch clogging up the whole creek is bringing the water into the Cul-de-sac.
  • Homage: Ed's Sea Ranch, Eddy's idea for a scam in this episode, is a nod to SeaWorld.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Stranded on a wood raft in the flood, Rolf starts hallucinating Jonny's head as a whole chicken cooked and ready to eat. Afterwards, Rolf decides he'll just have to eat Edd and Eddy after Jonny fished them out of the flood.
  • It's All About Me: Ed, Eddy, Kevin, Sarah and Jimmy never even consider "sharing" Edd, and give no consideration to the fact that the boy is barely awake and can't just wait until he's available.
    • Ed and Eddy want Edd to complete their newest scam: the Seaworld pastiche "Ed's Sea Ranch", an aquatic zoo where kids will come to pay and observe the sea critters. That scam might have failed anyways before a grand opening due to the lack of sea fauna available to make up the zoo, and given they're nowhere near a beach.
    • Sarah and Jimmy want to play "Doctor" with Edd after they find him slumbering on Sarah's bed and can't decide what condition he's in.
    • Kevin wants Edd to help him fix his bike chain which fell off the gears. However, Edd sleepily suggested the idea of liberally applying toothpaste but not as a means of restoring Kevin's bike chain. Kevin's bike chain gets ruined and apparently corroded thanks to that solution, so now he wants Edd to replace his bike chain.
  • Laughing Mad: When Jonny pesters Edd about Plank's growth, Edd, nearly mad from exhaustion, laughs hysterically, before curling up on Jonny's head and letting out one last chuckle before drifting off.
  • Lover Tug of War: With Edd as the subject and Ed, Eddy, Sarah & Jimmy and Kevin being the tuggers.
  • Meat-O-Vision: Rolf and Jonny are stranded on the same raft after the Cul-De-Sac is flooded, and rather than eating any of his animals, who are also on the raft, Rolf imagines Jonny's head as a roast chicken.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: Lobsters are found scouring the lake and manage to get to Rolf's farm after the Eds clog the lake. For those who don't know, lobsters are saltwater crustaceans that only live in the ocean.
  • Percussive Maintenance: Edd drifts back to sleep in the middle of giving instructions to Eddy, who then whacks him on the head with a muffler to get the last bit of information.
  • The Pig-Pen: Ed, as usual. Edd is very tired and needs a bed to sleep in. After being dragged out of his room and into Ed's room, he tries commandeering Ed's bed... only to find it absolutely filthy, stained, and missing a huge bulk of its mattress with the hole in it filled with moldy, expired food and a snake. Edd, still half asleep, declares "Not if it was the last bed on Earth."
  • Pun: The episode's title is a pun on "Scrambled eggs".
  • Skewed Priorities: Eddy for trying to plan his next scam with Ed as the new star attraction Neptune in the middle of the flood.
  • There Was a Door: Ed tries to enter Edd's room by kicking a hole in it.
    Eddy: There's a knob, Ed!
  • Too Desperate to Be Picky: Jimmy, stranded on a raft along with Sara, admits he's hungry enough to eat liver!
  • Waking Non Sequitur: A half-asleep Edd mutters some unintelligible nonsense during the first part of the episode:
"Attach it spefically to the combarsh-niggum hagamlufitstim."
"Hot wax for more manageable follicles..."
  • Water Wake Up: Ed accidentally dropping Edd into a lake doesn't wake him up. It takes flooding the cul-de-sac to finally do so. He's still tired, though.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Kevin disappears from the flood.
