Take care of our father, you strange nerd.
Louise

When Jimmy Pesto uses Bob's newly bought arcade of the classic "Burgerboss" to break his record and write "Bob Sux" at the top score, Bob drives himself insane trying to get the top score. The kids go with him to the arcade and crash into birthday parties there, while Linda believes everybody is actually having sailing lessons.

Troperboss:

  • Accidental Pervert: When Linda accuses Jimmy of making everything with Bob into a "peeing race", this comes off to the members of the Yacht Club as some sort of weird sex fetish. This is a double subversion, as Jimmy is indeed into weird sex things, but "peeing races" aren't actually a thing.
  • Actually Pretty Funny: Darryl reveals that while high, Bob said Linda had big boobies. Linda laughs a little when Bob confirms this.
  • Always Someone Better: No matter how hard Bob tries, he never manages to beat Jimmy's high score. However, he does eventually flip it back on Jimmy by getting Darryl, an even more skilled gamer than either of them, to beat Jimmy's score.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Darryl, which Bob even lampshadesnote .
  • Art Shift: The ending song and animation are all made in 8-bit fashion.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Bob does this when saying that the doctor told him to not stop playing. Linda mentions his eyes cross a little when he is lying.
    • The kids spout a lot of these in order to break in various birthdays parties and later, the party of the Glencrest Yacht Club.
Tina: "I'm here to change the light bulb in the lighthouse."
    • The biggest and most blatant has got to be Gene claiming that he knows a kid from Operation Desert Storm.
  • Brick Joke: Gene asks a waiter at the yacht club for some pizza bagels. Several scenes later, the waiter shows up with a plate of them.
  • Bystander Syndrome: Yuli watches Bob chase three kids out of Family Funtime and just remarks that it's not his problem.
  • Call-Back: The fact that Jimmy is a sex pervert was mentioned back in "Sheesh! Cab, Bob?", though the fetishes are different.
  • Cargo Ship: In-universe; Tina gets interested in a ice sculpture of Neptune, even kissing it.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Linda off-handedly mentions the yacht club after Bob lies that he's taking the kids to sailing lessons. The yacht club is a fairly sizable plot point later in the episode, and Jimmy Pesto's driving goal is to join it.
  • Companion Cube: Linda references the time Bob took away her credit card after she bought too many porcelain babies. A Cutaway Gag shows her singing to them and kissing them as Bob watches.
  • Determinator: Nothing will stop Bob from beating Jimmy's high score. He fights through sleep deprivation, carpal tunnel syndrome and full-on Sanity Slippage, and when Linda resorts to moving the machine out of the restaurant Bob simply tracks it down and continues his efforts.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Jimmy talks to the machine as if he is having sex with it.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Tyler will relentlessly bully Darryl for being a nerd, but he draws the line at actual racism.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Linda fails to notice that the kids are wearing party hats (in Gene's case, multiple) and that Tina clearly has chocolate around her mouth, still assuming that they went to the yacht club.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Linda is a huge fan of porcelain baby dolls.
    • Two for Jimmy Pesto:
      • The mere fact he got the top score for Burgerboss implies he's actually surprisingly skilled at arcade games.
      • He's revealed to be on the top of the waiting list for the Yacht Club membership.
  • Honor Before Reason: Bob could very well let Darryl break Jimmy Pesto's records and finish the entire issue there, but he decides that he needs to be the one to do it. At the end of the episode, he does end up paying Darryl to take care of it.
  • Insistent Terminology: Darryl's not a nerd, he's a "video-game enthusiast".
  • Lame Comeback: Bob delivers one to Jimmy Pesto. It's so long that Jimmy leaves before Bob finishes it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Jimmy Pesto gets some payback for incessantly screwing with Bob when Linda's comment about "peeing races" is misinterpreted and ends up costing him his prospective spot in the Yacht Club.
  • Malaproper: Linda refers to Bob and Jimmy's rivalries as "peeing races", a mangling of "pissing contests". This causes the yacht club to interpret the phrase literally, which screws over Jimmy's chances of becoming a member.
  • Mermaid Problem: Tina says that if she ever meets any mermaids, her first question will be to ask where their "mer-ginas" are.
  • Mistaken for Racist: Bob believes there's a "race thing" going on between Darryl and his bully, even though both state that this is not the issue.
  • Mundane Solution: Before he starts attempting to beat Pesto's high score the hard way, Bob tries unplugging and plugging the arcade machine back in to reset the high scores, but it doesn't work because the machine likely has battery backup for them and it's never made clear if there's a way to reset them manually like some arcade machines have. At the end of the episode, Bob finds out how to remove "BOB SUX" from the leaderboard—simply get Darryl, already established as knowledgeable on the game, to beat the high score himself.
  • Mushroom Samba: Bob, tripping on painkillers, starts seeing the bullies as characters from the game, and chases them down the street while yelling "Chicken leg!"
  • Pants-Pulling Prank: Gene does this to one of the animatronics at Family Funtime, and is horrified to find just a robotic endoskeleton underneath.
  • Pet the Dog: Yuli (the security guard at Family Funtime), after previously treating Bob as a nuisance, changes his mind when Bob returns and even pays a compliment to his kids.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Jimmy Pesto really does have unusual fetishes, but he has a diaper fetish (as shown in "Sheesh! Cab, Bob?") rather than a "peeing race" fetish like the yacht club thinks he has.
  • Road Trip Plot: Discussed. No actual cross-country trips occur, but Louise off-handedly mentions that she planned to go on one with Bob, specifically one involving a lot of hitchhiking. It's implied that Bob has actually sincerely talked about this with her.
  • Sanity Slippage: Bob becomes downright obsessed with getting Jimmy's score off the machine. It's only worsened by the pain killers he is on making him high and leading him to see other people as characters from the video game and even talking to the main character.
    Bob: (yelling) CHICKEN LEG!
  • Shout-Out:
    • The character of Burgerboss is clearly just Mario wearing an apron.
    • Burgerboss is a parody of BurgerTime.
    • When Bob realizes he might have carpal tunnel, Gene repeats "Redrum".
    • Gene thinks Bob's wrist braces look like web shooters.
  • Wearing a Flag on Your Head: In addition to his usual Italian tie, Jimmy Pesto's yacht club outfit is also Italian-themed (Italian flag cummerbund, green overcoat, white shirt, red bowtie).
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Despite promising Darryl that he would do so, Bob refuses to attack Tyler and initially tries to have them kiss it out. He does eventually attack him, but only after undergoing Sanity Slippage and mistaking him for an enemy from the game.
