DependaBill

When a new neighbor named Doug Perkins moves in, Bill's dependency is tested when he tries all he can to impress Doug and make a new friend in him. Meanwhile at the laundromat, one of Tilly's socks goes missing and she investigates a conspiracy of what happened to it.

"DependaBill" contains examples of:

  • Brick Joke: The "don't like/love" joke used by Doug. The first is when he expresses his love of fishing like Bill, and he does it again near the end when he accepts Bill's apology.
  • Call-Back: When asking Bill to befriend Doug, Cricket brings up the time Remy helped him launch a chicken into outer space.
  • Characterization Marches On: From this episode and onwards, Nancy is shown to be more mature more often.
  • Consulting Mister Puppet: Mr. Fluffenfold's "boss" is a sock puppet he operates himself.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: Gramma thinks Tilly's theory about the missing socks is forced and silly... so it must be true!
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Turns out Tilly was right about the conspiracy of missing socks — Mr. Fluffenfold had secretly been stealing people's socks all over the laundromat, including Tilly's own sock which she lost, then he puts them back exactly where they left them so they wouldn't suspect a thing.
  • D.I.Y. Disaster: Bill offers to fix the wiring on Doug's new apartment, despite not knowing how. He ends up making a mess of things, leaving a big hole in the ceiling.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Note when Tilly finds her missing sock under the dryer, it was not there a few scenes before. Seconds after, it was revealed Mr. Fluffenfold stole it and put it back.
  • Foreshadowing: Mr. Fluffenfold seems to stammer a little when the girls interrogate him. Also, he tells them socks go missing all over the world and they don't have to single him out. This gives a vague clue to the reveal that Mr. Fluffenfold was the one responsible for Tilly's sock disappearing after she finds it.
  • Karma Houdini: Mr. Fluffenfold gets no punishments for stealing Tilly's sock behind her back (and presumably every sock of whoever comes to the laundromat) and gets away with it.
  • Mystery Episode: Tilly's side of the episode is to solve the mystery of what happened to her missing sock, and why other people's socks go missing as well.
  • Punny Name: The laundromat worker is named Mr. Fluffenfold (fluff and fold).
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Tilly is right that there was a conspiracy behind her missing sock, but she and Andromeda determine that the conspiracy is "Big Sock" hiring laundromats to steal peoples socks, forcing them to buy more. In actuality the conspiracy is that the owner of that specific laundromat is being forced by his sock puppet to steal socks for the "Sockening".
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Subverted with Tilly. She finds her missing sock near one of the dryers thinking it was there the whole time and there wasn't a conspiracy after all. But then the camera zooms out into the surveillance room where Mr. Fluffenfold was watching her, telling his sock puppet he secretly took Tilly's sock and put it back in the same place where she found it so she no longer suspects him, revealing he was in on the conspiracy all along.
  • Shout-Out: The actual repairman Doug called looked like Mario.
  • String Theory: Tilly prepares a board explaining her theory about the missing socks.
  • Zany Scheme: Cricket suggests Bill pass himself off as the electrician coming to fix Doug's wiring, then reveal himself after doing a great job and earn Doug's gratitude. It backfires as expected, which is then Lampshaded.
Cricket: But did you learn a lesson?
Bill: Yes. Never fall for a Cricket scheme.
Cricket: That is a solid learn.

The Delivernator

Since Cricket gets distracted during his role as a delivery man, Gloria attempts to replace him with BigTech's newest invention, the Delivernator, and Cricket challenges it to a race to see who can complete their deliveries the fastest. Meanwhile, the rest of the Greens fight an ant infestation.

"The Delivernator" contains examples of:

  • Affectionate Gesture to the Head: Ms. Torres musses with Cricket's hat, leaving it off-centered, as she voices her concerns for him to leave immediately.
  • The Bet: If Cricket finishes his deliveries and makes it back to the café before the Delivernator, then he keeps his job as deliverer; if the Delivernator makes it first, then it becomes the new deliverer and Cricket is regulated to working inventory.
  • Continuity Nod: This wasn't the first time the Green house was infested by animals.
  • Control Freak: Played for laughs. Gwendolyn Zapp will happily give Gloria the Delivernator for free, as she's quite satisfied with control over every aspect of modern life.
  • Death Glare: Gloria gives one, complete with sleep deprived red eyes, to Cricket when he accidentally blurts out he played ping-pong while doing deliveries.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: After making his last delivery, Cricket must choose between going right back to the café to keep his job or staying to play ping-pong with Mrs. Torres.
  • Job-Stealing Robot: Gwendolyn Zapp all but literally says that the Delivernator is this.
  • Lost Food Grievance: Bill takes losing the cinnamon buns hard. At the end, he begs Gloria for a job if she'll pay him in cinnamon buns.
  • Man Versus Machine: Gloria makes a bet that if the Delivernator can deliver faster than Cricket, then it will do all the deliveries while Cricket is demoted to stock boy. Despite Cricket doing his best and Remy and Vasquez trying to slow down the Delivernator, the Delivernator still wins. However, all of Cricket's customers stand up for him because they like the attention he gives them. The Delivernator may make efficient deliveries, but it lacks the human touch Cricket gives the customers.
  • Must Have Caffeine: There's Gwendolyn, who is unrecognizably frazzled before taking her coffee, and one of Cricket's customers, a mother with twins who's desperate for coffee with extra sugar.
  • Pest Episode: The B-plot involves an ant infestation in the Green home. Alice at first tries violence, but after that fails, Tilly suggests a gentler way of dealing with the ants; so Alice lures them out of the house and into the dumpster at the back of the café with fresh cinnamon buns.
  • Pulling Themselves Together: Cricket smashes the Delivernator to smithereens with a cart of hot dogs. Thinking he now has all time in the world, he goes to see Mrs. Torres for a ping-pong match. Then Remy informs him that the Delivernator is reassembling itself:
Delivernator: I do not tire, I do not waste time. I, DO NOT, DIE...
  • Shout-Out: The girl in the kiddie ride that Cricket passes looks pretty much like Mabel Pines.
  • Special Guest: Rosie Perez guest stars as Cricket's ping pong champion customer, Mrs. Torres.
  • Strong Ants: The ants are strong enough to carry a plate full of cinnamon buns, as well as Gramma's sword.
  • This Means War!: Alice declares war on the ants for raiding her home, eating her food and making her son cry.
  • Uncanny Valley: After Gloria decides not to purchase the delivery robot because it lacks the human touch, Gwendolyn informs her that the next revision will have humanlike faces... which turn out to be creepy enough that Gloria feels even more justified saying no.
  • The Voiceless: Despite Vasquez being part of Cricket's team to watch and distract the Delivernator, he never speaks a single word throughout the episode. In every scene of Remy and Vasquez together, Remy does all the talking.
  • Wingding Eyes: Tilly and Bill get hearts in their eyes when Gramma tells them she made cinnamon buns.
