• SMG4 predicted Inside Out^ExplanationThe blooper "%99% beroken" involves Mario getting so pissed from Princess Peach getting stolen that his mind breaks. Hilariously, the episode uses a few things that Inside Out would later use such as the living embodiment of emotions and the console that controls his actions in the real world. This led to many comments about how Disney "stole" the idea from SMG4 or how SMG4 predicted the whole movie.
• PINGAS!^ExplanationArguably the most recurring Running Gag in the series. It almost always finds a way of making it into an episode in some capacity. Viger the Magnemite, one of the better known reactors of the channel, always finds it hilarious when it pops up.
• "PIZZA!"^ExplanationChica upon getting Pizza in "Freddy's spaghettiria", which became her Catchphrase whenever she showed up after.
• Owing to Fishy Boopkins' extreme popularity with the fans as well as being the most notable Spike in any series, it's become quite common to refer to any Spike seen in the Mario series as him, no matter how unrelated it may be. Just check out any video featuring a Spike and you'll see a flood of comments referencing Fishy Boopkins. Kevin actually noted this in a couple Hobo Bros. playthrough. However, in the Lawsuit Arc, Fishy Boopkins undergoes a Forced Transformation because Miyamoto was sick and tired of these comments, discrediting the meme.
• SMG4 is becoming Fishy Boopkins^{Explanation (spoilers)}With the inclusion of more female main characters like Meggy and Tari, the comments section has been filled with people joking that SMG4 is making more waifus and becoming like Boopkins, who is known to have MANY waifus. The Anime Arc heavily featuring popular anime girls, as well as ending with Meggy being turned into a human does not help.
• "Mario (insert mundane task here)"^ExplanationAfter the first video of 2019 was titled, "Mario Goes to the Fridge to Get a Glass Of Milk", many jokes came out about Mario doing other mundane tasks which would escalate into wild situations just like the video did. Would eventually become an Ascended Meme in mid-2019 with several SMG4 episodes released after The Anime Arc.
• This image of Toad◊ from "Mario's Spageti Delivary" has become memetic even outside SMG4's fanbase, such as its use in this fanmade highlights video for Vinesauce Joel.
• THIS IS NOT OKIE DOKIE!^ExplanationOriginating from "Doki Doki Mario Club", where Mario lazily asks Saiko Bichitaru to stop attacking them. The quote is often paired with an edited shot from "Stupid Mario World" of Mario, complete with intensely-glowing eyes, brandishing a shotgun.
• "Uh I mean pingas."^ExplanationAfter being kidnapped by SMG4 in "The Stupid Mario Bros. Show", Mario asks if the demands and pressures of his job have finally driven him insane in an uncharacteristically sophisticated way. After a few weird looks from SMG4 and Luigi, Mario follows this up with the quote. Mario's spiel can be replaced with a point on just about any subject.
• Mario's gonna do something very illegal!^ExplanationOriginating from the blooper "The Mario Mafia," where Mario threatens a Goomba with a bat.
• "IS THIS AN ARC?"^ExplanationSince the Waluigi Arc, it has become common to see fans speculating on what episodes or plot points are leading into future arcs, usually happening when there is a serious or more cohesive plot in an episode. As a result of this, some fans joke that something minuscule in a video might be the start of an story arc. Luke actually parodies this in a tweet.
  • "It's not an arc."^ExplanationAfter the release of the "IT'S GOTTA BE PERFECT" movie, Luke revealed that the videos leading it to it were NOT part of any arc, but that the whole thing was part of one larger narrative. Fans, however, believe that it should be considered an arc due to its nature being similar to other arcs. Additionally, the videos leading up to "WESTERN SPAGHETTI" were also viewed as an arc, despite others reiterating Luke's statement.
• ∞ IQ^ExplanationUsually used when Mario does something reasonably smart for once, this meme template is used whenever someone did something stupidly smart...
• Axol's Notebook ^ExplanationIn "Mario School Club", during which Shroomy showcased the activities in his "Hunting Club" by shooting down live animals, a very nervous Axol (who is a literal axolotl, by the way) took notes of this, stating never to go near Shroomy ever again. The notes that Axol wrote can be replaced with anything to be cautious of.
• SMG4's Magic Door^ExplanationIn the announcement video "My whole life has been leading up to this.", replacing the scenes that SMG4 opens up to with your own has become rather popular.
• Long SMG4^ExplanationIn mid-2019, the Twitter account "NoContextSMG4" posted a series of "letter in SMG4 stands for" memes with various edits to a SMG4 model. The most notable of these was of a model of SMG4 whose head was edited to appear longer. This version of SMG4 was dubbed "Long SMG4", and became a running joke in certain parts of the fandom. It eventually became a meme in the fandom in early 2020, after Beeg SMG4's debut, due to there being a war in certain parts of the fandom over which one was better. Long SMG4 would also appear in multiple videos in 2020.
• Beeg SMG4^ExplanationAs pictured above, a poorly-drawn SMG4 made as a parody of the Beeg Yoshi meme. Has since become an Ascended Meme, with a plush toy and even a whole episode focusing on him.
  • Beeg Meggy^ExplanationAnother case of Ascended Meme regarding Beeg SMG4, the episode "Mario's Mask of Madness" features a poorly-drawn Meggy, which is the result of her having a Beeg SMG4 Mask thrown on her face.
• The Meggy/Tari/Axol/Bob Meme Template Uprising^ExplanationWhile the YouTube Arc was still ongiong, there was a large insurgency of meme templates featuring Meggy, Tari, Axol and even Bob. It got to the point that some fans of these characters saw it as an uprising.
• #AvengeSMG4^{Explanation (HEAVY SPOILER)}Shortly following the Downer Ending of the episode "Deleted.", in which SMG4, Meggy and the others (sans Mario and Axol) gets deleted from existence via SMG3 and his Snitch Production staff's timeline meddling, a Twitter hashtag similar to the #AvengeTheFallen campaign hashtag went online in an effort to rally against SMG3 in revenge for the fallen heroes.
• Meggy is now officially a JoJo reference!^{Explanation (HEAVY SPOILER)}Upon the reveal of Lizzie Freeman voicing Meggy Spletzer's permanent English voice, jokes and comparisons between Meggy and Lizzie's other popular role became inevitable.
• Detractors of "Meggy's Bootcamp" find Meggy's breakdown scene to be too forced and cheesy, so it sometimes gets memed, usually with footage of a character laughing at Meggy. Luke and Kevin actually reacted to one of these memes on Hobo Bros.

• Octo-Melony^Explanationu/benjojoGV, a redditor known for creating meme templates featuring Inkling!Meggy and Desti, makes a fan-made model of an Octoling with Melony's "likeness". Nicknamed "Octo Melony", she has since became a popular fan-made character in the subreddit, even when Melony's official animesque human form is revealed.
• Human Desti^Explanationu/crekbiew, one of the well-known GMod model makers in the subreddit, made a model of Desti whose appearance (and species) bears similar to her now-human rival Meggy. Following the release of her model on the Steam Workshop, numerous fanworks and fanarts were caught like wildfire.
• Mario and Bowser Jr.'s signs.^ExplanationWhile climbing the beanstalk during "The Quest For RTX", SMG4, Mario, and Bob come under fire by Bowser in his airship. In order to get him to leave, Mario holds up a sign that says, "Your children don't love you", which Bowser Jr. compliments with one that says, "You didn't say Happy Birthday to me today :(", which sends a heartbroken Bowser packing. The signs are typically labelled with depressing statements, with Jr.'s sign being the worse one.
• Zero Meggy^{Explanation (Genesis Arc spoilers)}Following the theories that the Box Club is affiliated with SMG0, many fans latched onto the idea of Meggy being possessed by the corrupt SMG in a similar manner to what happened to Axol. Some fans have become obsessed over the idea of this happening.
• Give a bit more ass if possible^Explanation During the 5 million subscriber stream, concept art for Meggy in a new outfit was shown. This phrase was among the notes on the concept sheet.
• "He said Zero"^{Explanation (Genesis Arc spoilers)} With the possibility that SMG0 could come Back from the Dead or simply that his story isn't over yet, fans are quick to jump the gun whenever a new character mentions the number "zero" and when they find deliberately searched for clues in their names or designs that they're related to the number "zero", effectively making them a "candidate" for a possible Zero follower or Zero's reincarnation. This eventually resulted in lots of parodies from people tired of incessant theorizing. The theorists were right... almost.
• Who's going to die next?^{Explanation (arc spoilers)}After Desti's death in the Anime Arc, many fans tend to joke about how one of the first things the fanbase tends to speculate on with arcs is who's gonna die by the end of them.
• Mario and Meggy's "declining friendship"^ExplanationIt's rather common for fans to compare Meggy's relationship with Mario back then to their current relationship. The main idea is that Meggy used to take Mario's stupidity lightheartedly opposed to her now where she would react like any other character would react to Mario's dumbassery. This has annoyed other fans who point out the reasons why Meggy gets frustrated with Mario.
  • May 14, 2023^ExplanationThe day that MediExcalibur2012 made a Mario x Meggy fan video on his channel. Because of how controversial the ship is, the video is referred to by its date in part due to how much chaos it sent to the fandom. Also of note is that the date is exactly one year after the release of "The Cursed Tapes," which featured MediExcalibur2012's first adlib focusing on Mario and Meggy's friendship.
  • This is why their friendship sucks^ExplanationFans like to assume, joking or otherwise, that the ship itself is why Glitch is afraid to make them friendly towards each other. After MediExcalibur2012's video, many fans joked that he was most likely reprimanded by Glitch and told not to make them friends anymore.
• MARIO WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!^ExplanationOriginating from a fanmade video in which Luigi chastises Mario for making love with Meggy. The line would then end up being used heavily in the "Mario Does Things" series.
• Remember, this is the same series where Mario got his dick stuck in a door. ^ExplanationThis phrase is often applied to dramatic, tragic or horrifying moments, to show just how much the tone of the series can shift.
• Niles gets beat up by [X]. ^{Explanation (Revelations Arc spoilers)}Following the reveal that Niles is indeed related to Zero, fans have made up scenarios where Niles gets beat up by a character out of spite.
• Oh, oh, oh, hi there!^note In "Mario's Bus Trip", the Gummy Bears twerk towards a tied up Mario while singing DAGames's Memetic Molester-laden Baldi's Basics song "You're Mine". The scene is remembered as very funny because Mario is shown in a panicked tone from the song as the bears rush him.
• ZackSonic123 can finally rest now^{Explanation (spoilers)}A user made a series on Reddit known as "Posting SMG1 Vlogs Until The Model Of Zero's True Form Is Released: Day [X]". With Zero's official form (both of them, actually) finally released, fans have expressed that the Redditor can now finally take a permanent break from making the vlogs.
• The black bars. ^ExplanationDuring particularly dramatic moments (generally in arcs) there is almost always an Aspect Ratio Switch to 2:39:1. This became the subject of jokes about the switches not dissimilar to those about the LiveLeak watermark.
• Every meme SMG4 references automatically die^ExplanationDue to several fans' negative opinion on Modern SMG4's take on memes, they frequently assume that a good meme dies as soon as SMG4 uses it.
• Who did Mario fuck?^ExplanationThe existence of Mario’s descendant, New Super Duper Mario Plus Ultra, in the Bad Future of “The Weegee Uprising” has left some speculating as to who Mario reproduced with to start the lineage that lead to Plus Ultra. A higher than expected number of people believe that this aforementioned person is Meggy.
• Old SMG4 reacts to new SMG4^ExplanationDetractors of the WOTFI 2022 redesigns often make short videos of the old designs negatively reacting to the new designs.
• Forget it, Mario.^ExplanationThe first line from an NSFW comic where Meggy tries to get Mario to lose weight. Most memes involve a Bait-and-Switch to make the outcome more comedic and less Squick, such as having Mario getting injured while exercising. It was even spoofed by cloud64, who edits for the series.

  • SMG4 x Water Bottle^ExplanationAlso of unknown origin, but most likely stems from "SMG4 and SMG3 Rank SMG4 Characters", where SMG4 is ranked lower than Fuego the Water Bottle for not staying hydrated. Some people like to make Dasani the brand of the water bottle.
  • Marware^ExplanationThe episode "No TV Make Mario Not Okie Dokie" has Mario treat the TV like his lover, giving CPR when lightning cuts its power. Said TV happened to be the head of the TV Adware, the overarching villain of the current series. Naturally, people put two and two together and decided that Mario is in love with the TV Adware itself.
• Melony Is Wario^ExplanationA common joke theory in the fandom, particularly the official Discord server. Likely inspired by a scene from “Mario’s Internet Safety” where Wario uses a Full-Body Disguise of Melony to catfish Axol. Often jokingly treated as if it was the absolute truth.
• So good you could eat it raw^ExplanationA Running Gag in “Western Spaghetti“, as a slogan for potatoes stated whenever they’re brought up. Has been used constantly on the SMG4 subreddit after the film’s premiere.
• SMG4's scream^ExplanationSMG4's Skyward Scream after Mario, Meggy and Tari accidentally ruined the building site while he was in the middle of a heartwarming speech has become a prime source of edits.
• Leggy/Goomba Meggy^ExplanationIn "You Made Mario Do This", Meggy accidentally shoots a Pride Demon, and when it angrily rounds on her, she shrinks down to the point where it's just her head and her boots and scuttles off in fear. "Leggy" would then be memed on both Twitter and the subreddit, with other people replicating the look and drawing fanart. Hilariously enough, it seems Luke and Kevin have caught wind of "Leggy's" memetic status, because this particular form was brought back in "THE NEW CASTLE!!", where she inadvertantly causes a kitchen fire.
• Mr. Puzzles is Sans^ExplanationDuring the Flashback in Mr. Puzzles's Villain Song in the Puzzlevision movie, the young Mr. Puzzles is represented by a silhouette of Ness. Cue the internet having a field day at references, jokes, and comparisons to MatPat's infamous theory.
