A foot in our world, another in a world unknown
I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too (Isekai de Cheat Skill wo Te ni Shita Ore wa, Genjitsu Sekai wo mo Musou Suru ~Level Up wa Jinsei wo Kaeta~; 異世界でチート能力(スキル)を手にした俺は、現実世界をも無双する~レベルアップは人生を変えた~) is a Japanese Light Novel series written by Miku (美紅), the same author of The Fruit of Evolution. Originally a Web Serial Novel that was first released on the website Kakyomu in 2017, it was later published by Fujimi Fantasia Bunko in 2018 with illustrations drawn by Rein Kuwashima (桑島 黎音). It also has a manga adaptation illustrated by Kazuomi Minatogawa, which began serialization in the digital magazine Dengeki PlayStation Comic Web in 2019. Both the novels and its Manga adaptation are licensed by Yen Press in English.

Since he was a child, Yuuya Tenjou has been constantly bullied by just about everyone, except his posthumous grandfather. Living in the home that he inherited from him, Yuuya takes an extended leave of absence from school after a particularly harsh beating from his bullies. While cleaning his grandfather's house, he discovers a room he never went to before, filled with many different objects his grandfather had gathered from his travels around the world. When a peculiar door not on a wall is seen among the artifacts, Yuuya opens it to discover that there's another world on the other side…

An Animated Adaptation began airing on April 7, 2023 for the Spring 2023 season.

Now with a character page.

Beware of unmarked spoilers.

The series contains the following tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Yuuya's parents are abusive to him while pouring love to his other siblings. They also can't fathom why their father, Yuuya's grandparent, would leave Yuuya the sole inheritor in his will and kicked him out when everything was finalized.
  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • Yuuya's return to school as a Bishōnen is expanded on in the manga, with one of the teachers calling him out to translate a paragraph to English, accuse him of cheating, then have him move several heavy boxes around school.
    • Lexia's ill-fated journey and attempted assassination in the first volume gets much more focus in the manga, arguing with her father to allow her to go on her journey. When the convoy is attacked, she is attacked by a group of hooded men and skeletons from the Demon's Den, with one of her attendants even being in on the attempt on her life.
  • Alien Invasion: In Volume 8, Ouma tinkering with the objects in Yuuya's secret room results in him accidentally attracting the attention of Merl, an Amelian, and a contingent of Dragonians following her to Earth.
  • Bathtub Bonding: On the last night she trains with Yuuya before he leaves for the school trip, Luna decides to bathe with him, despite his clear embarrassment.
  • The Beautiful Elite: Ousei Academy is an elite high school full of people from wealthy and influential families, all of whom are not only physically attractive but treat Yuuya with far more kindness than the people at his middle-class public school.
  • Bears Are Bad News: During the school trip in Volume 2, a mountain bear attacks the area where the Ousei Academy students are camping. Yuuya is forced to fight it physically to save Sawada from getting killed.
  • Beach Episode: During Volume 6, Kaori invites Yuuya and his classmates to spend the summer break at a beach resort owned by her family. They also end up running into Sawada, who's working at a beach house owned by her parents.
  • Black-and-White Morality: There are two hidden factions that are fighting for the fate of the world in this series. Both are simply called Holy and Evil and based on the names, you get the idea.
  • Big "WHAT?!": Yuuya screams "Eeeeeeeeeeeh!" when he sees his reflection for the first time since his level up, struggling to recognize his now handsome, unblemished face.
  • Boyfriend Bluff: In Volume 7, Yuuya agrees to pass off as Miu's boyfriend when her father is trying to set up an Arranged Marriage with a young businessman who owns several casinos abroad. The guy turns out to have connections with the mafia and was trying to set up business in Japan by taking over the Midou company, and when the arrangement falls through, he decides to bring his henchmen to kill them right then and there. Fortunately, Yuuya steps in and saves them.
  • Crapsaccharine World: The other world is a beautiful pastoral medieval fantasy setting, but it's also full of monsters with some conspiracy between nobles and a war between Holy and Evil coming over the horizon.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Most of Yuuya's fights are this, either because of his high level or the equipment his grandfather seemingly left behind. On his first day in the other world, he managed to one-shot a giant monster with only a spear he got from the storeroom. He instantly reached Level 100 for killing that one monster alone. This only applies to "normal" enemies like Yuuya's fellow humans and is otherwise subverted as he travels deeper into the Demon's Den, where there are much stronger monsters with higher levels and stats than his.
  • Delinquents: The Red Ogres in Yuuya's world, some of whom happen to be his classmates, as well as his bullies.
  • Did You Get a New Haircut?: Kaori is able to recognize Yuuya on-sight despite his dramatic transformation that made him unrecognizable to his classmates, with her simply noting that he slimmed down quite a bit. In the anime, he nervously asks how she recognized him, and she tells him that his kind, honest eyes that she saw the day he intervened to help her remained the same.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Miu's father disapproves of her career choice as a model, and tries to push her into an Arranged Marriage with a young businessman of his choice. He eventually comes around after the guy reveals his true colors and tries to kill them, forcing Yuuya to save them.
  • Friendless Background: Due to his appearance before the story even started, Yuuya was bullied by not only his classmates but even his own family. His siblings want nothing to do with him and insult him every chance they get, and his parents kick him out when they are unable to take his inheritance from his grandfather's will. The teachers also do nothing to stop the bullying at school and in the manga, one of the teachers even tries to get Yuuya in trouble.
  • Funny Background Event: Anytime there is a girl in the background with Yuuya on the page after he turns into a Bishōnen, expect them to be blushing.
  • Hope Spot: Just before Lexia was about to be killed by an assassin, said assassin is killed by what looks like Yuuya having rescued her. Only for it to pan out to show it was actually a Goblin General. Luckily Yuuya kills him before it kills Lexia.
  • Human Aliens: The Amelians look mostly human, bar having luminous blue hair.
  • Indirect Kiss: Yuuya seems to think about this when Kaori offers him a bite of her crepe, getting flustered to no end. He in turn offers her a bite of his own.
  • Infinity +1 Sword: Virtually EVERYTHING from the weapons to the food in the Wise Man's house in the other world. Yuuya was able to kill a monster that could destroy a kingdom just by throwing a spear he found in the house.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!":
    • Sawada proposing to Yuuya leaves everyone in Stunned Silence, then loudly protesting.
    • When Yuuya offers bedding to Princess Lexia, not knowing this is considered a marriage proposal, the entire palace goes into uproar, especially when the King draws his sword on Yuuya for "daring to seduce [his] daughter".
  • Model Couple: When Yuuya goes to a shopping mall, he's roped into becoming part of a fashion shoot taking place there since their male model is hungover and they need someone to play the part of their female model Miu's love interest. He agrees since he figures it's the least he can do, though he's rather nervous about having to be positioned so close to Miu.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: This is the reaction Miu's father has when he realizes that the guy he tried to set up to marry his daughter was actually a criminal trying to take over their business, even trying to kill them when the arrangement falls through.
  • No Escape but Down: After Yuuya finds Kaori, Kaede, and Rin during the shopping mall fire, he finds himself surrounded by more fire than what his magic can deal with. He opens a hole in the floor with a kick, going all thirteen floors down this way.
  • Pet the Dog: Yuuya's meeting with Houjou Kaori is when things start looking up for him, as his act of kindness spurs her to find him and invite him to her school with her father's permission, which has a much better environment than Yuuya's own school.
  • Police Are Useless: In the anime, when Youta is getting strangled by the gang leader he hired and subsequently insulted during arrest, the police just stand by and don't even try to tackle the Red Ogre's leader. Yuuya is the one who has to save Youta and even when the leader attempts to attack Yuuya, the police still stand by doing nothing while Yuuya is the one stops the man on his tracks with a Death Glare. The novel hand waves it with the narration stating that the officers were too busy restraining the rest of the gang so they wouldn't escape, hence why they couldn't intervene to save Youta.
  • Portal Door: A door inside a secret room in Yuuya's grandfather's house allows him to travel in between his world and the other world.
  • Rage Against the Reflection: Right at the start of the story, Yuuya smashes his mirror when he can't hold back his frustration and anger over all the abuse he's endured his entire life, no matter how much he tried to do good to honor his grandfather's wishes and will likely continue throughout his life. Fortunately, this act results in him accidentally opening the door to the other world when he thrust his fist in anger to the adjacent wall next to the recently-shattered mirror that opened the hidden door to the secret room that holds said door to the other world.
  • Rare Candy: All of the food in the Other World Garden permanently boosts different stats.
  • Rare Random Drop: Although they're rare, whenever Yuuya acquires these, the effects vary, but one thing is certain, they aren't "rare drops" for nothing, as the rare drop obtained from the Crystal Deer he defeated together with Night was a "Portable Lavish Open-Air Bath Set".
  • Shipper on Deck: This tends to be the reaction of most people who see Yuuya and Kaori together. Chapter 5 even has several people comment on how cute they seem together, much to Yuuya's embarrassment.
  • The Stinger: Each episode has this as it usually concludes the episode along with showing the next upcoming episode's name as well as the episode's number.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Downplayed. Because of Yuuya’s lack of self-esteem, he finds it extremely difficult to consider that other people might like him or that he has redeeming qualities, so his viewpoint tends to downplay how strong he is, or misunderstand the stares of awe and attraction he gets as something else.
  • Upper-Class Twit: Subverted with the students of Ousei Academy. They all hail from influential families and/or are incredibly talented, but they treat Yuuya far better than his old classmates ever did.
