    Title Sequence

    Prologue
  • Owlbert was the reason Eda discovered the car wreckage and by extension, the still alive baby Luz. Small Role, Big Impact at its finest, as it starts the whole story.
  • Everything involving Eda and the Noceda's:
    • Upon seeing Camila dead, she feels bad she can't do anything now.
    • Upon finding Luz, Eda holds and shushes her to calm her down before trying to figure out what to do before deciding to take her home until she can find a place in the Human Realm to leave her.
    • Seeing baby Luz giggle upon seeing the portal makes Eda smile. She immediately shakes it off telling the infant she's not keeping her. Cut to 14 years later, and obviously she was wrong.

Chapter 1: The Owl Lady's Daughter
  • Eda has settled into being a mom. How is this first shown? She's able to cook a big breakfast for herself, Luz and King.
  • When Eda asks Luz what day it is, she responds with "to stay at home and do real magic?" Eda briefly jokes she misses being homeschooled and remembers the days she taught Luz before enrolling her in Hexside.
    • Luz proceeds to show off her animation skills by bringing a piece of toast to life. Eda, impressed, calls it adorable.
    • The reason Eda enrolled Luz in Hexside despite her "anti-coven" beliefs is because Luz's friends were students and so she could make connections (and to bring business to the shops), but mostly the first two.
    • After Luz leaves, Eda calls her great and reminds her of herself when she was 14.
  • Seeing Willow being talked down to by Amity on the way to school, Luz wastes no time in intervening to defend Willow.
    • A minor example but as she leaves, Amity tells Willow not to spend time with a bad influence. We're seeing her old personality shine through much earlier than in canon.
  • Luz, having seen how much better Willow is with Plant magic, encourages her to convince her parents to let her switch tracks. She wants Willow to succeed through something she knows she's talented in.
  • Luz regularly gets human items for Gus to show the Human Appreciation Society and doesn't charge him for it.
  • Both Willow and Gus consider Luz a good friend even knowing no one else likes her and she's trackless. That's how close they are.
  • The troublemakers, Viney, Jerbo and Barcus, are also close friends with Luz (who's also part of the Detention track), welcoming her with open arms.
  • She caused a lot more problems for the Abomination track students (especially Amity), but it's hard to argue with the fact that Luz truly did have Willow's best interests at heart when she threw that ghost ball.

    Chapter 2: Won't Get Away
  • After being warned by Principal Bump about how Luz's actions against other students will attract the attention of parents with connections to the Emperor's Coven who'd have them separated, Eda begins stepping into Mama Bear mode on how to protect her kid.
    • Instead, Bump offers her a deal: he'll handle the parents as long as she signs a demon contract that will make sure Luz will get her grades up. Even despite having to take a grounds-keeping job at Hexside per the contract's terms, Eda immediately signs and has Luz do so as well.
  • Flashbacks to Eda's beginning to becoming a mother are shown:
    • One shows Eda breaking down after being unable to calm baby Luz down. Upon seeing Eda in distress, Luz instantly stops crying and reaches out to Eda, who realizes she wants to be held. This calms the human baby down and Eda says she somehow automatically knew what needed to be done.
    • Another reveals she and King tried to leave Luz at a cathedral of nuns. However, reading the note she had written for them makes it clear she's hesitating to let Luz go as much as the baby doesn't want her to. The elderly nun can also tell the two have formed a bond: she tells Eda things happen for a reason and that she'd be a good mother, thus Eda takes Luz home. Not back, home.

Chapter 3: Here Comes the Tutor
  • Seeing Eda and Luz aren't talking, King tells the latter (who believes Eda hates her now) about how much Eda put into raising her and ends it by saying even though Luz is human, she's still Eda's kid.
    • This was just to set Luz up to talk to Eda, who explains how her curse stopped her from finishing her education and that she's afraid for Luz who might end up in the same position if her current behavior continues, leading Eda to have Luz promise she'll try harder at school.
    • The same conversation has Eda admit adopting and raising Luz is one of the best choices she ever made.
  • Willow's been placed in the Plant track while the Abomination track is out of use, thus Luz tells her that she'll probably be permanently in it once the teachers see how skilled she is.
  • Although Willow can't stand Amity, she tells Luz not to mess with her especially now that Amity's her tutor.
  • Despite her own grudge against Luz, Amity's not petty enough to fail her out of spite. She also doesn't tolerate Boscha's hate crime against Luz and threatens to uninvite her to her moonlight conjuring if it continues, while offering to get Luz to apoligize for the pepper spray stunt as long as Boscha and Skara apologize as well.

Chapter 4: Incidents and Family Secrets
  • After seeing the graffiti on Luz's locker and scaring the student body trying to find the culprit, Eda admits she's just worried someone would target Luz in any way. Luz reassures her it doesn't bother her.
  • She doesn't show it, but Amity is genuinely amazed and impressed with Luz's glyph cards.
  • Luz fondly remembers when Eda taught her the alphabet. It doubles as hilarious because of the words Eda used to teach her, but Luz still sees it as a good memory.
  • Amity tells Luz about Boscha and Skara making the graffiti and that they're willing to apologize as long as Luz apologizes to Boscha about her eye. When Luz asks why she's telling her this, Amity says Luz is a pain but she didn't deserve that. Luz decides to consider it and thanks her for telling her.
  • The dinner scene at the Owl House.
    • Eda immediately apologizing when she unintentionally brings up the Slayground incident. She blames herself for not protecting Luz, who tells her she doesn't blame her.
    • King getting teary eyed at the above moment. Luz pulls him into a hug and says he can say if he wants to be part of a tender moment.
    • The fact that Hooty joins everyone for dinner despite him being a nuisance to them.

Chapter 5: King and Lil Luz's Day Out
  • The first flashback shows Eda listing off things she wants to get for baby Luz: King tells her to stop because he's never seen her being so affectionate.
  • In the present, Luz asks King to help her clean up the house for her first tutoring session with Amity in exchange for a lesson on demons for old times' sake. He happily agrees.
  • Even though he scared her by accident, it was sweet of Hooty to try and calm baby Luz down.
  • King becomes scared for Luz when Eda transforms and goes on a rampage through the house. She does her best to comfort him and swears she won't let Eda stay in owl beast mode.
  • As King blows up at baby Luz for being the one Eda pays more attention to now, he admits he's not just jealous of her, but he understands what she's lost apologizing for getting her kidnapped by flying pigs. Luz, wanting to comfort King after he starts crying, ends up taking her first steps in order to give him a hug. With this, King vows to be the best brother he can be to Luz and to always look out for her, a promise he keeps even when Luz grew older, made friends and started going to school.

    Chapter 6: Emotional Guilt
  • Luz kisses the Snaggleback's cheek as thanks for finding Eda's elixer.
  • After being pinned by the owl beast and cut off from the elixer, Luz has no choice but to yell at it to get Eda to hear her. It starts to work, so Luz tries to bring her mother out by telling her she knows Eda doesn't want to hurt Luz and saying she loves her. It makes her stop long enough for King to make her down the elixer.
    • Right after, King chews Luz out for running off without a plan and getting injured as a result, ultimately ending his rant by saying he doesn't want her to be hurt again, saying it's his job as her brother to protect her. She pieces together why he's acting like this and hugs him before telling him she's grateful he's looking out for her and telling him she can handle her own but she'll think about her own safety more often.
  • Upon waking up and remembering what happened, Eda's first instinct is to check on Luz and King. Seeing Luz's injury, she offers to heal it, but Luz tells her to do it later and just rest for now.

Chapter 7: Double Double Tutor and Trouble
  • Not only does Skara help Amelia out with her homework, she doesn't hesitate in escorting Amity to the Owl House for her tutoring session with Luz. Especially after the muggings have started occuring.
    • She also follows through on apologizing to Luz for the graffiti.
  • Eda ends up straying into "embarrassing parent" mode remembering a few things about Luz growing up, but she treasures each memory.
  • While talking with Willow, Luz learns about Levi Thians getting jumped and immediately shows concern, having done business with Levi selling him colored pencils and saying it isn't fair someone so shy suffered such an ordeal.
    • After getting scared remembering her own mugging, Amity ends up calming down when talking to Luz about her art.
  • Eda allowing Amity to join the Clawthornes for lunch. She knows how to treat guests, something she hardly tolerated early in the show.
  • In forcing Luz to accompany Amity to Amelia's house to help her and Skara, Eda decides to give her some incentive: come back early, and she gets to learn how to make a homunculus.
  • Willow saves the girls when they were struggling against the piranha plant. Special mention to saving Amity from being strangled by its vines and protecting Luz, calling her her best friend.
  • After seeing the evidence concerning the piranha plant incident, Principal Bump decides to give Skara and Amelia an extension on their project and officially transfers Willow to the Plant track.
  • Mrs. Mantis, teacher of the Bard track, is sincerely impressed with Luz's art style, though the reasons why only appeal to her.

     Chapter 8: Witch's Duel or Don't
  • Surprisingly, Luz once organized a sit-in for the elves who work in the library to get them better pay. She also gives condolences to the library guard upon learning how much he's paid.
  • Amity had entered one of Luz's paintings in an art show at the covention to introduce her talents (and to get her to join the Bard coven, which is what pisses Luz off.) As Luz later learns, she was genuinely encouraging her.
  • After hearing about the witch's duel between Luz and Amity, Eda wastes no time in deciding to train Luz for it.
  • Meeting Lilith for the first time, Luz calls her "mom" due to her resembling Eda.
  • After catching Luz around Lilith, Eda initiates a protective hold around her daughter.
    • After being dragged off by Eda, it doesn't take long for Luz to suggest Eda settle things with Lilith so she'll make the Emperor's Coven stop chasing her.
  • For the first time in the story, we see Lilith and Amity interacting: after seeing how strong her protege's gotten since their last meeting, Lilith gives her an Affectionate Gesture to the Head.
  • When she finds Amity crying, Luz shows concern for her and offers to cancel the duel. After Amity chews her out for challenging her when she was trying to give her a confidence boost, Luz apologizes for it admitting she Used to Be a Sweet Kid but had to grow up proving she can be a witch. Hearing this makes Amity admit she can pull it off using her glyph cards and they head off to the art show.
  • Hearing Lilith talk trash about Luz triggers Eda's Mama Bear instinct, and after giving her a hard slap on the face, tells her to never badmouth her daughter. Lilith is surprised Eda developed such a protective nature. Eda goes on to explain to Lilith why she came to the covention, why she took Luz in, and that if anybody messes with her, they'll answer to her. She caps it off by affirming her belief that Luz will become a powerful witch and able to take care of herself when she's gone.
  • Amity tries to comfort Luz when she takes second at the art show, but Luz is actually satisfied since it's the first time she ever won an award.

    Chapter 9: I Ain't Troubled Yet!
  • The chapter opens on a flashback showing Eda brushing Luz's hair in preparation for her first day at Hexside. Despite her opinion on the educational system, Luz is glad she'll get to be with Willow and Gus while learning from all the tracks.
  • Luz automatically takes an interest in voodoo magic upon learning it can be used to communicate with the dead. 3 guesses as to what she'd wanna use that for.
  • During her first day in the Healing track, Luz struggled with the class and received encouragement from the teacher, Ms. Torigore. Too bad it wasn't genuine...
  • Anu Bist is only doing his job, but Luz refuses to let him push her or her friends in the Detention track around because of her opinion on teachers. Bist later confesses he honestly sees potential in the troublemakers and their desire to mix magic, encouraging them to do so. He also sympathizes with Luz when it comes to being an outsider and finding your own path.
  • All the students in gym class are amazed that Willow's magic was powerful enough to launch a 800-pound block over a long distance, and even more so upon learning about her stopping the piranha plant.
  • The last flashback shows Luz being accepted by the troublemakers despite her being human. Luz admits when she was younger, Eda sung a song to her that she thinks of whenever she feels alone. The troublemakers ask to hear it and she complies; Luz proceeds to sing "You Be In My Heart", with the flashback transitioning to Eda singing the song to baby Luz, ending on Eda hugging her new baby.

    Chapter 10: The Conjuring Conflict
  • Luz is thankful Amity canceled their next tutoring session, because it's the Moonlight Conjuring and she plans on having one with Willow, Gus and the rest of the troublemakers. What makes it so meaningful is that it's the first time all of her friends will be hanging out together.
  • Morton mentions that Eda took at least 9 other jobs in the past. Doubling as a sense of Fridge Heartwarmer & Fridge Brilliance, it may have been because she needed more money to buy things for Luz as she grew.
  • When Luz and Willow start to argue, Luz mentions she defended Willow and Gus from Boscha when she started going to Hexside, not wanting to stand by while someone messed with her friends. Willow counters this by mentioning how far she tends to go, admitting she felt sorry for Amity after the ghost incident and that she does care about her former friend's well being.
  • Seeing Tibbles' stand is in pieces, Eda and King are met by Katya, the vampire girl Luz helped free from the Conformatorium. She directs them to her father, Vanz Ator's, shop to get more elixirs and upon hearing Eda helped free his daughter, he gives her some on the house, telling her they're even now.
  • After giving it some thought, Luz apologizes to Willow and admits she does more harm than good, even if she just wants to protect her friends because she cares so much for them. Willow accepts it, but unfortunately the Demon Hunters show up...
  • On the way home, Eda and King find a tired Amity with the knife on her: Eda sums up that she got jumped and has been searching for the muggers to take revenge. After offering to take her home only for the young witchling to ask if she can spend the night at her house instead, Eda obliges and tells Amity if she needs to talk, she'll listen and King can be her unlicensed-therapeutic animal.
  • After Willow chews her out for being a lousy friend, Luz decides to apologize to the demon hunters and Eyepatch admits he's impressed she'd own up like that. Too bad he refused to take the apology...
    • Upon seeing Eyepatch restrain Luz, Willow and Gus try to warn him not to do that knowing what would happen.
    • As Luz beats the living daylight out of Eyepatch, a returned Eda immediately pulls her daughter into a binding hug to calm her down. When Luz bolts to her room after seeing she lost control of herself, Eda assures everyone she'll be fine.
  • When Willow question Amity's presence with Eda and King, Eda covers for Amity by saying she found her leaving the library and allowed her to stay the night.
  • While Eda chooses to join the kids for another conjuring, Amity chooses to check on Luz.

    Chapter 11: Coming to Terms
  • Luz and Amity start racking up a lot of Ship Tease in this chapter.
    • Instead of immediately questioning Luz about her episode, Amity focuses on bandaging her bloody knuckles, their holding hands causing a small blush on the rebel.
    • Luz offers to let Amity sleep in her bed while she takes the floor and gives her a set of pajamas to use, too.
    • After learning about Luz's fight with Willow, Amity tries to cheer her up by telling her she's been a better friend to Willow than her.
    • Unable to sleep, Amity starts up a conversation and upon seeing Luz has an Otabin book, playfully teases her apparent soft side. This gets a snarky response from the human and they share a laugh. Amity then asks if Luz wants to talk and she proceeds to tell her about the slayground incident. After hearing the story, Amity invites her to sleep in the bed with her.
  • The day of the slayground incident started with Eda taking 5-year-old Luz out of the house for the first time, taking precautions to make sure they wouldn't draw attention and teaching her the basics of her conning skills.
    • After bringing Luz home to heal her injuries, Eda assures her she's to blame for what happened hugging her. Even though they're both crying, the fact that Eda is focused on comforting her kid proves being a mom has changed her.
  • Before going to sleep, Amity questions Luz about the boy in the picture on her nightstand: she tells her he's her human stepbrother.
  • Eda makes breakfast not just for her family, but Amity too. Seeing the different atmosphere compared to her family eating together makes Amity cry, and they tell her they make their guests feel welcome.
  • Barcus' parents are a a witch woman and a part-fish man, they adopted him and they treat him like their own son.
  • On the way to Willow's house, Viney tells her she gave Luz the idea to use the ghost ball hoping it'll help mend things between them. Willow shows appreciation for it and says she knows Luz is a good person, but they need time before they patch things up.
  • After dropping Amity off, Luz wishes her luck dealing with her parents giving (after teaching) her a fist bump.
  • One of the last flashbacks show Eda still hugging Luz when King comes to comfort his sister. Looking at all the books she bought, Eda grabs Otabin to read to Luz to cheer her up.

    Chapter 12: Heart to Heart
  • To help Luz relieve herself of any remaining anger from her episode the previous night, Eda meditates with her. She then listens to her talk about her fight with Willow and advises her to tell Amity the truth about the ghost infestation so she'll no longer have the guilt weighing her down.
  • Unlike canon, Eda actually lets Luz help take care of the Bat Queen's kids and uses the same tricks she used on Luz when she was a baby.
  • Seeing Levi Thians struggling to carry his books due to his arm cast, Luz helps him out and offers an apology for what happened. And after hearing Levi can't help his father with entertainment for his business, Luz offers her services and signs Levi's cast when he agrees to mention it to his father.
  • Seeing Viney spazzing out from the guilt of the ghost infestation, Luz tells her they'll confess but for now she should just breathe and cuddle with Puddles to alleviate her stress.
    • After that, King advises Luz to not put off the confession with her mini fridge agreeing with him.
  • A flashback shows Eda continuing to read "Otabin" to Luz to get her to forget the Slayground incident, which she becomes invested in. Fade back to Luz reading the book under the effects of the Wailing Star, and she calls the character her friend while petting him with a smile. When the twins show her what happens when someone draws in the books, they try to goad her to draw in Otabin's book which she vehemently refuses.
  • Minor as it is (and how serious he was being unknown), Edric telling Emira not to tease Luz by flirting with her.
  • The second she learns Edric and Emira hired her to help steal Amity's diary to humiliate her, Luz lays the smackdown on both of them for crossing a line. After locating the diary, she holds it close and tells the twins they can keep their money and leave.
    • Amity's canon diary entry of calling a teacher "mom" is made sweeter since it was Lilith, who had mentioned someone beside Luz called her that.
    • Amity, who had been told of the twins talking to Luz by Cat, followed them to the library and heard everything between the three in her hideout. As a result, she's there to help Luz with her anxiety attack using a trick she picked up from Willow. She then thanks Luz for what she did, admitting they share the trait of refusing to show weakness.
    • After that, Luz decides to tell her the truth about the Abomination track incident telling her she shouldn't tutor her anymore and showing genuine remorse for hurting Amity's grade.
  • Luz doesn't attack the monstrous Otabin and stops Amity from attacking him to due to her bond towards him and his book which helped with her recovery, even admitting to Amity she made him her Imaginary Friend. Amity fully understands her sentiment and resorts to having other characters subdue him before restoring him to normal.
  • Amity chooses to forgive Luz for what she did (confessing she had a hunch it was her who caused the incident) instead of holding a grudge. They agree to learn from their mistakes to be better people in the future.
  • Before the girls head home, Amity hands Luz the Good Witch Azura Vol. 1 hoping it's something they can both bond over like Otabin. Despite not liking it before, Luz agrees to give it another shot. Before going home, Luz sees Amity smiling at her and feels her heart skip a beat, causing her to race home blushing.
  • Upon returning home, Luz not only tells Eda why she left, she also admits her possible crush.
    • What's most notable about this is how different it is to canon: it took Luz until early season 2 to develop feelings for Amity and before and after that, she was painfully oblivious to Amity's crush on her. Here, it's reversed: Luz falls for Amity first which will drastically change the development of their relationship.

    Chapter 13: The Talk
  • After Luz tells Eda about her new feelings for Amity, Eda sends King out for the day so she can give her an extended take of The Talk (which may also count as punishment for sneaking out all night.)
    • When Eda tells Luz about the danger of entitlement, Luz says if Amity doesn't like her the same way, she'll support her and whoever she does end up with.
    • By the end of their discussion, Luz sees Eda had given her some helpful advice and tells her mother that Amity is her first real crush. By nightfall, she believes it won't be so bad.
  • When Amity returns home, she lays into Edric and Emira for trying to embarrass her and roping Luz into it. She defends Luz by telling them she's suffered enough and them messing with her doesn't help.
    • After unknowingly pressing Amity's Trauma Button, the twins start to realize what she's been through and that they really weren't fair to her.
    • When Ed and Em apologize to Amity for what they did and ask if she was jumped, she has them undergo the everlasting oath before she gives them the full story. The twins promise her they understand her feeling trapped by the expectations their parents put on her and promise they'll be more supportive of her from here on out.

    Chapter 14: Swap or Not
  • Initially things open up on Luz skateboarding for her mom and friends, she and Willow appear to have made up and she asks Amity, who seems to return her feelings, out on a date. It soon turns out to be a dream that turns into a nightmare.
    • After waking up in shock, Luz uses the technique Amity used on her to calm herself down. She decided to remember it for this kind of situation.
  • The next day at school, Luz and Viney are about to tell Principal Bump the truth when Edric and Emira walk up, apologizing for the library incident. While she doesn't accept it right away, she tells them she'll consider forgiving them. Viney assures them she'll come around, which gets a blush out of Emira implying she's got a crush on Viney.
  • After Luz and Viney confess, Principal Bump tells Luz he's surprised and impressed with her for taking responsibility and admitting she made a mistake, both things Eda and Lilith never would've done. As such, he shows mercy and sentences the girls to clear out the ghosts.
    • After getting the first few ghosts out, Luz asks Viney if she's a good witch: Viney assures her she'll make a great one someday and shares a fist bump with her.
    • Jerbo and Barcus volunteer to help the girls take care of the ghosts (in spite of the fact they had nothing to do with the infestation) because they believe troublemakers should stick together.
    • Principal Bump is so impressed that Anu Bist got the four of them to show such initiative that he allows him to stay on staff. Bist tells him that one of his new students caught his attention and has potential she has yet to see for herself.
  • Although Eda leaves to make the most of being King, she swiftly returns when the demon in her body tells her Luz having a crisis due to an accidental text and takes care of it. After Luz leaves, King shows concern for her and Eda tells him she's just adjusting to having a crush.
  • After impressing Skara, Amelia and Tyler with how bad she can be, Luz spends the afternoon teaching them how to embrace the lifestyle of the Bad Girl Coven, complete with song.
    • Later when she spray paints satirical graffiti and gets arrested for it, she tells the officers who are about to arrest the other three that they were trying to stop her, as she's grown to like them. Skara doesn't hesitate to annouce her respect for the human's moxie.
  • Lilith arrives at the precinct to interrogate Luz in order to learn more about her. Luz, however, believes she's just using her to get to Eda and questions how Lilith didn't even know she existed regardless of the chaos she was involved in including the boiling zit incident. Lilith, seeing so much of Eda in Luz, gives her an apology for never being there. Afterwards, she tells Luz if she ever wants to talk, she'll listen.
  • Amity, having heard about Luz getting arrested from Skara, shows up to pay her bail. After Lilith tells her she'll take care of it, Amity doesn't scold Luz for what happened: rather, she checks on her and whether she went ballistic or not, putting Luz's safety above all else. Amity also tells Luz she isn't expected to change for the better overnight.
    • Given that Luz had just realized her newfound feelings for Amity, seeing her get flustered and blushing because Amity's fussing over her is adorable. You'd never believe this was the same rebellious bad girl who got herself arrested just to preserve her image.
  • The fae helps Luz, Eda and King escape by tying Lilith and the rest of the guards' shoelaces together.
  • Eda, like Amity, tells Luz she may relapse to her rebellious nature trying to do good, but she is a good kid deep down and as long as she keeps trying, she will become a better person one day.

    Chapter 15: Friendship Dynamics
  • 4 years ago, Luz and King came across an 8-year-old Gus getting bullied by older kids and saved him by scaring the bullies off. Luz was initially put off by Gus being so immersed by her but after hearing he doesn't have a mom, Luz gives him her sympathy, along with a fidget spinner and his nickname. As a result of that day, Gus founded the Human appreciation Society to teach his fellow witches about human culture with Luz delivering stuff from the human realm to show them.
    • Bo, Elliot and Eileen enjoy Luz's visits, with the latter having received a dry erase board from Luz to help her communicate with everyone.
    • Luz makes good on her delivery despite getting delayed by the ghosts she's still clearing out. Even though she and Willow aren't speaking, she's still making time for Gus.
  • When Mattholomule questions the globe, Luz proceeds to give a lesson on Earth and how it's part of something more, crediting the guy who taught it to her.
  • Why did Luz nickname Amity's abomination "Phil"? It's been established that she (and the authors) love Phil Collins' music: it's a tribute.
  • Eda warns Principal Bump about the fae so he can take precautions to protect the students.
  • Skara tells Willow about Amity and the knife because they used to be friends and she hoped she could fill in the blanks.
  • Wanting to thank Amity for helping her, Luz tries to think of something to do for her and asks her fellow detention trackers for advice.
  • Flashback example: After Gus unintentionally insulted Luz and came to her house with Willow to talk, Eda told her she has to learn to let people in and make friends, confessing she thinks the two are nice kids.
  • It was messed up how Gus tried to trick Luz and Willow into making up by pretending he fell down the stairs, but the girls' reactions show how much they care about him. So when they confront him and hear out how he's scared they're drifting apart, they assure their friend they're just on a break until they make amends and even if they don't hang out together, they won't leave him behind. The girls even admit it felt good to talk to each other at that moment.
    • The girls also tell Gus it's time he talked to his dad about the divorce and get the closure he needs.
    • When Luz accidentally lets it slip she might have feelings for Amity while telling Gus she considers the Blight her friend now, Willow (immediately catching it) chooses not to bring it up.
  • After Skara ends her friendship with Bo, Eileen comforts Bo and Luz gives her sympathy.
  • Back to the past, Gus apologizes to Luz and Willow offers her a plant as a gesture to hang out, which she accepts. King and Eda are shown watching them, Eda knowing her baby's gonna be okay.
  • Having learned all about the cover-ups involving Luz, Lilith doesn't hesitate to confront Emperor Belos about it. He knew she'd make it personal after she lost the last human who came to the Isles and promises her as long as she brings in Eda, Luz will also have a place in the Emperor's Coven. Lilith agrees, wanting her family with her.
  • Strange and self deprecating as it is, Belos admits Luz has artistic talent after seeing her graffiti. The Golden Guard even says it shows off the Emperor's dark, mysterious flare and he would drink from a mug with that picture.

    Chapter 16: Mischief Gathering
  • Anu Bist has made good on his promise to encourage his students as they've all managed to either create new spells or improve their current ones.
    • Barcus' new spell involves summoning the spirits of his ancestors to aid him, each from a different era. Now that's a family that fights together.
  • When Amity meets up with Luz to discuss her improvement with her writing, she takes note of Luz being down about her supposed lack of improved spells and does her best to cheer her up and encourage her.
    • Not to mention she asks why Eda isn't working today and hopes she'll feel better the next day.
    • When Luz gives back her Azura book and Amity finds the fanart Luz made of her as Azura, she compliments it and Luz allows her to keep it since it's one of a kind. Amity then decides to give her the second volume so Luz could get more inspiration for her art, which she accepts.
  • After what happened to Bo, Willow confronts Skara in her defense. She manages to make Skara realize she made her choice.
  • Apparently, the Bat Queen has been allowing Luz to train in her forest via doing her chores since she was 8. When she sees Luz stumped about figuring out a new spell, she tells her where to find her teacher and warns her about the Forest of Fear, admitting she holds a soft spot for the rebel after she leaves.
"That is one strange human, though she is good at chores. Bless the Owl Lady for raising such a rambunctious child."
  • Upon seeing Luz in the nightclub, Kitsini, an acquaintance of Anu Bist, gets her out of trouble with the bouncer before bringing her to the jackal's table. Bist proceeds to introduce his student to the rest of his friends, who he's already told them about.
    • While looking around, Luz sees a waiter (who unbeknownst to her is the fae) being mistreated by Jack Frost and would've stood up for him had Anu Bist not told her she'd put herself at risk.
  • To cheer Bo up, Gus invited her to watch the grudgby game with him, Willow and the troublemakers.
  • Amity ends up stopping by the Owl House to drop off Luz's books that she forgot.
  • Hanako-Chan is described as being a saint despite being a trickster demon since she scared some schoolgirls for bullying a blind girl, then helped said girl to her mother after making sure she was alright.
  • When Luz finally questions Anu Bist on why he called her spells simple, he tells her she hasn't figured out her true potential yet telling her she's unique because of her glyph cards.
  • Ending up on stage, Luz sings a passionate power ballad about how much her relationship with Amity has changed.
  • In a moment of altruism, Luz gives the fae a tip for the disrespect he's endured. In turn, he thanks her, compliments her performance and formally introduces himself to her before leaving.
  • With help from Hermes, Anu Bist gives Luz the glasses that belonged to her birth mother, Camila, so she can hold a séance to summon her spirit. Why? Her interest in voodoo and spirit talking.
  • As it turns out the fae, Puck Goodfellow, is the not-so-imaginary friend Hooty has, and he really does see him as a friend too.

    Chapter 17: Raising Human
  • 6 years ago, Eda started training Luz in self-defense to protect herself should the day come that Eda won't be around to do so. When Luz tried to hit the punching bag she had visualized as one of her attackers, she began having a panic attack and Eda rushed to calm her down with a hug telling her it was okay for her to cry.
  • When King decides to enter the writing contest, he asks Luz to help him using her resources. Said resource is Amity, who bluntly tells King why his story will flop and he takes her opinion into consideration.
    • Amity also suggests Luz write a comic book on account of her art, which Luz also considers.
  • When training with Luz hit a roadblock due to her lack of confidence, Eda vented to Larry, a coven guard she was on friendly terms with. He gave her advice on how to ease Luz into the training by making it more fun, having used the technique on his nephews as an example. Eda follows his advice and soon enough, Luz is able to breeze through the training.
  • Eda saves Lilith from a crab-spider not just because they're family but because she bailed Luz out of jail, with Lilith noting motherhood brought out a better side of her sister. When they come across the Bloom of Eternal Youth, Eda begs Lilith to let her take it hoping it'll keep the curse from growing. Both sisters admit they don't want to fight over it if they can help it.
  • After King finally admits the story he gave Piniet wasn't his, Luz tries to offer a solution to the potential recall by offering her comic idea to Piniet. When he mocks it and threatens King, Luz beats the snot out of him. Just proves messing with her brother and insulting her crush are two Berserk Buttons you shouldn't push.
    • After the beating is over and the results leave Luz too horrified to move, Puck knocks out Piniet's guards giving King a chance to escape with Luz. He also frees all of Piniet's captives.
    • Later when Puck arrives at the Owl House to check on Luz, he admits he's been watching her since the library incident and is envious of her life, especially the loving family she has. He tells her he'll stop, but Luz instead decides to befriend him.
  • After learning Eda's curse is getting worse, Lilith informs her of Emperor Belos' interest in Luz (knowing just doing that puts her at risk of treason) and gives her options on how to keep her safe. Regardless of her loyalty to the Emperor, Lilith knows Eda loves Luz and would do anything for her and she wants to do the same keeping their best interests in mind.
    • When they discuss Eda's human husband, Eda asks if Lilith had any dates while working. She admits there was someone but he left, and both Eda and Steve give their condolences to her.
  • Despite being exhausted when she returns home, Eda immediately comforts Luz upon seeing her in tears. Once Eda learns what happened with Piniet, she decides to bring Luz and King to the human realm for a vacation over the weekend, taking into account telling Amity about it, Luz studying during the trip and calling ahead to tell someone they're coming.
    • The person Eda calls tells her that Luz is always welcome to stay with them.
  • The chapter ends with The Reveal that Stan Pines is an old friend of Eda and she decides to introduce Luz to him during their first visit to Gravity Falls years ago.

    Chapter 18: Reunion
  • As it turns out Eda was married to Stan and still is (legally), so when she brought Luz to meet him years ago, she wanted her to meet her human stepfather. And since Stan took Dipper in, he's the human stepbrother she previously mentioned.
  • Amity lends Luz her copy of Azura Vol. 2 to take with her for her vacation. Learning that Amity doesn't have Vol. 4, Luz makes a mental note to find it for her, imagining she'll get a kiss as a reward.
  • When Gus learns Luz is going to the human world, he convinces her to let him go as long as he gives his father a heads-up. Luz even gets Gus to honestly tell his father where's he's going for the weekend. When Perry gives the go-ahead, Gus promises to get him a souvenir.
  • The appropriately named reunion between the Clawthornes and the Pines family:
    • Seeing his two favorite con artists again, Stan wastes no time hugging Luz and Eda.
    • The Clawthornes meeting Mabel is also kinda sweet, mostly due to Mabel's gushing over King.
    • Dipper stops Luz from attacking Mabel before Luz greets him with a playful punch.
    • Gus meeting the twins also gets points, as he also punches Dipper with glee from discovering another human greeting.
    • Soos and Wendy also get in on it, happily greeting Luz who introduces them to Gus by complimenting them. Soos even agrees to give the kids a ride into town.
  • When Luz first met Dipper, she was incredibly anxious around him. To put her at ease, he showed her his birthmark and his explaining it allowed them to start bonding. It helps that they shared an interest in anything weird, including each other.
  • Lazy Susan's interactions with the Pines twins is the first sign of the massive relationship changes that come with Dipper being a citizen of Gravity Falls.
  • While giving Gus a tour of Gravity Falls, Luz brings up the fact that unlike the town reverend's regressive "one man, one woman" beliefs, the Boiling Isles is much more accepting of same-sex relationships.
  • Stan took in Dipper because his parents weren't expecting twins. Just like Eda, he struggled with being a parent but did his best for Dipper's sake.
    • When Dipper started getting bullied because of his birthmark, Stan taught him not to feel ashamed of it and like his father for him, signed him up for boxing lessons to toughen him up so he can defend himself.
      • In fact, this was where Eda got the idea to train Luz in self defense.
    • After hearing what happened to Luz at the slayground from Eda, Stan comforts her.
  • Stan and King end up bonding after King serves as an attraction for the Mystery Shack, though it makes Eda worry bringing King was a mistake.
  • Eda's brief interaction with Wendy over the latter's first encounter with ghosts.
  • Seeing Mabel moping, Wendy guesses she's jealous of Luz's bond with Dipper and talks to her, reassuring her that Luz will warm up to her given time.
"I know you came here to meet your brother, but there's nothing saying Dipper can't have more than one sister… or that you can only have one sibling."
  • To bond with Luz, Mabel shows her Journal #3 and Dipper reveals Mabel lets him use it as long as he invites her friends on their mystery solving cases.
    • Since Dipper grew up knowing about the strangeness of Gravity Falls, Stan made sure to tell him not to go looking for trouble.
    • The twins also show Luz their list of suspects for who could be part of the Blind Eye Society.
  • Dipper also believes that Luz can be a witch saying if anyone can do it, it's her.
  • Luz and Dipper catching up on the roof of the shack. It ends with them admitting they've missed each other.
    • Luz has already come out as bisexual to the Pines and they support her.
    • Any past complication they bring up, they try to see the bright side of it.
  • The last flashback has Dipper showing Luz constellations and him telling her to be the most authentic self she can be. All the while, Eda and Stan watch them and admit having their own kid changed them both for the better. Stan makes sure to tell Eda not to be a stranger and she & Luz will always have a home at the shack.

    Chapter 19: Summerween Fright
  • The Clawthornes and the Pines (accompanied by Gus and Soos) hitting the Summerween Superstore for supplies. You're pretty much reading about a big family outing.
  • Mr. and Mr. Park want to reward Willow for working so hard in school with a family movie night, but she has plans to go study for the semester exams with Bo. Although Gilbert worries she's growing apart from them, Sullivan (Sully) understands and calms his husband down.
  • To celebrate their first Summerween together, Mabel has Dipper dress up as Luke to her Leia. When Robbie makes fun of Dipper for it, Wendy elbows him in Dipper's defense.
  • When Candy, Grenda and Pacifica arrive to meet up with Mabel, the first two girls are amazed to meet Luz considering her a legend. The latter, despite having to deal with the witch girl's past chaos, remains formal towards her.
    • Seeing her friends have arrived, Mabel wastes no time hugging "Paz", who blushes in response. Dipper informs Luz about how Mabel befriended her after Pioneer Day and they've been hanging out ever since.
    • When Gus compares Pacifica to Amity, Luz immediately tells him they're nothing alike.
  • Eda dressing up as Elvira to Stan's Dracula makes it look like a couple's costume.
  • Candy and Grenda gushing over King just like Mabel did.
  • Skara has come to see what she did to Bo was wrong and informs Willow as practice for when she apologizes properly.
  • Luz spends a large portion of the night calming Gus down whenever he sees a clown. It gets to the point where she decides to send him home (granted, she had reached her limit with him trying to justify staying but still.)
  • Seeing Willow not focusing on their studies, Bo learns she's worried about Luz and misses hanging out with her. When Bo admits she misses Skara, Willow tells her she understands her pain due to what happened between her and Amity. She tells Bo that befriending Luz and Gus and them caring about her is what helped her move forward.
  • Eda gets Stan up to speed on her recent troubles and he tells her that if it comes to it, he'll look after Luz.
  • After Soos' truck crashes into the superstore, Luz's first objective is to dig Dipper out of the wreck, even using his real name. She's relieved to find him alive and pulls him into a hug.
  • Seeing Gus have a panic attack while hiding from the clowns, Luz uses the anxiety technique to calm him down. She then explains why she needed to come to the human realm and she didn't want him to get hurt during the vacation. Gus proceeds to apologize for forcing Luz to bring him along.
  • At the same time as the above moment, Dipper talks to Mabel and learns she's been trying to make up for all the years they spent apart by forcing him to spend time with her, especially out of jealousy over how close he is with Luz. Dipper apologizes for trying to ditch her and for ignoring her in general: when Mabel asks if they can start over as friends instead of siblings, Dipper chooses to be both.
    • The clown watching the Pines twins is so touched, he decides to call his own brother to make peace between them.
  • The group effort to face the clowns and save Wendy counts.
  • Gus willingly chooses to return home after everything that's happened. When the group returns to the Shack, he gets confirmation on Luz's crush on Amity; he admits he doesn't understand why Luz fell for her but supports her nonetheless, not wanting to see her get hurt.
  • Rather than eat King and Gideon, the Summerween Trickster takes them home in gratitude for listening to him. After dropping off King, Gideon (though scared stiff) greets Luz and the Trickster casually tells her he'll see her next year.
  • Before Gus returns home, Stan gives him a Mystery Shack t-shirt on the house (under the guise of getting in free advertising on the Isles) and Mabel asks him out: Gus lets her down gently since he isn't interested in dating, but wants to stay friends because he thinks she's interesting, which she accepts.
    • When Gus returns and shows his father the clown shoes he obtained from facing his fear, Perry hugs him with tears of pride for doing what he could never do.
  • After Bo rebuffs Skara's apology and challenges her to a witch's duel leaving her in tears, Willow (feeling responsible for it) comforts Skara and leads her to Lambi's apartment to spend the night there. This also has the effect of Skara blushing from the contact.
    • Buck admits this act of kindness may have been what led Skara to develop a crush on Willow.

Chapter 20: Blighted by the Light
  • Amity and Luz's respective morning routines have a few noteworthy moments:
    • When Amity wakes up, she's shown wearing the "Purple Rain" t-shirt. Turns out Luz let her keep it.
      • She also smiles when she reads Luz's text to her.
    • While Luz heads to the bathroom, she ruffles Dipper's hair and calls Mabel "Mabs". Mabel giddily notes Luz giving her a nickname.
    • Mabel makes breakfast for everyone, Stan taking notice of how his waffles look just like him and saying they're delicious.
  • Seeing Levi while shopping, Amity checks on him and says she's glad he's better. She learns of his decision to drop out for the sake of helping his family and wishes him luck.
  • Since Luz and her family have to return home at the end of the day, Mabel decides to take her on a girl's day trip of her choosing with her, Candy and Grenda.
    • When Mabel asks what Amity is like, Luz refers to her as "a cute dork who makes her heart hurt from beating so much." Mabel coos from hearing her say this.
    • Luz decides to take Mabel up on her offer by going to the Gravity Malls to get Azura Vol. 4 for Amity.
  • The Blight siblings travel to the Knee for training, with Edric and Emira remembering past trips there. When they see Amity is feeling guilty about not being able to help Levi, they comfort her by telling her why they became practical jokers and tell her to find people she likes spending time with to be her friends. They ask what she likes and as she lists it off, she stops and blushes when she thinks about Luz, which they notice.
  • When the girls arrive at the mall, Blubs warns Luz to stay out of trouble to which she tells him why she's there. With Mabel, he apparently trusts her enough to keep Luz out of trouble. And after Blubs and Durland leave, Luz states the one thing they could agree on is their opinions on love.
  • Seeing all the graffiti on the ruins, Amity pulls out Luz's drawing of her (that she brought with her, no less) and recognizes it as Luz's artistic style. The twins both share a smile when they notice this.
    • When Emira questions Amity about her being friends with Luz, Amity explains how her opinion on the human changed and how she sees her as the person she wants to be. The twins surround Amity and Emira tells her everyone has someone to admire, listing a certain nerd who's good with animals as an example and that such admiration can become something more.
  • Mabel may have been way off about how she and Luz could bond and how Luz could impress Amity, but she still genuinely wanted to help.
  • Before Amity could risk having a panic attack, Puck appears and offers to help her rescue the twins from the Slitherbeast.
  • Realizing she messed up big time and needs help tracking down Luz, Mabel calls Dipper since he knows Luz better than her and he tells her where to find her. Dipper also tells Mabel she has to accept Luz for who she is if she wants to have any kind of relationship with her.
    • After Mabel apologized to her, Luz explains that Amity likes her for who she is, something she admits matters a lot to her.
    • As an apology gift, Mabel gave Candy and Grenda her allowance to get the book Luz wanted. They manage to get the whole series and in return Luz decides to take them to one more stop before she leaves.
  • Doubling as a moment of awesome, Puck manages to calm down and befriend the Slitherbeast.
  • After introducing himself to the Blights, Puck tells Amity she's not a coward and stronger than she believes. He then warns the twins not to mess with her again before taking his leave giving Amity an Affectionate Nickname, "Pixie Dust".
  • Tom telling Puck who sent the demon hunters to capture the Slitherbeast: he was trying to save Eyepatch from more pain than what Luz did to him.
  • It's confirmed that Stan did reveal the truth about Stanford to Eda and she's been keeping up with his progress on the portal. She raises his spirits by saying things work out, which leads into a conversation on why the two fell for each other and how so much has changed for them, ending on a Held Gaze.
  • After dealing with the gnomes for trying to marry Mabel, Luz makes conversation with Candy and Grenda by judging what covens they'd be perfect for and encouraging Grenda's dual tracking idea.
  • Right before the Clawthornes leave;
    • Dipper gives Luz a newspaper article about the car crash Eda found her in, listing her birth name and her birth mother's picture. After all these years, Luz tears up from finally knowing what Camila looks like.
    • Mabel happily takes Eda's nickname "Marbles" as such and gives her a going-away present (of which doubles as funny.) Eda still thanks her for it and tells Dipper to look out for his twin.
    • Stan tells King he's more than welcome to return and work as an attraction for the Shack, which King gladly accepts.
    • Luz tells Mabel to appreciate what she has now instead of what she wants to have and that people will accept her for who she is if she does the same. This is followed by Mabel hugging her hoping they can be like sisters one day, Luz patting her head and hoping so, too.
    • Right before the Clawthornes leave, Luz hugs Dipper instead of giving him the usual goodbye punch.
  • On the way home, Emira commends Amity for her bravery and tells her not to focus on what she could have done when she was mugged and to focus on what can be.
  • The second the Clawthornes return, Luz messages Amity to meet her at the library. She not only gives back the Azura book she borrowed, she also gives her the book she found as a gift for her tutoring. Amity, speechless and blushing hard, manages to say thanks before running for home with the twins going after her. Luz is so happy, her heart starts racing.
  • Upon reaching home, Odalia tells Amity that once the exams are over, she'll cut off ties with Luz to get back on track. The very though of losing her friendship with the rebel hurts her and the chapter ends with Amity hugging her new book before realizing what this means and saying the line we've been waiting for:
"Oh Titan, I have a crush on Luz..."

    Chapter 21: Exams to Survive
  • On the day of the semester exams, Eda says she has complete faith that Luz will pass and tells her no matter what track she chooses, she'll support her decision. Note how Eda said track, not tracks, clear foreshadowing.
  • Back when Luz started out at Hexside, Cat seemed to consider befriending her. Even though it was mainly so she could fix Luz's hair, at least one member of that posse wanted to try welcoming her into their fold.
  • Luz takes note of Amity acting strange and chalks it up to nerves about the exams (in reality, part of the reason is her discovering her newfound feelings towards Luz). It's sweet of Luz to decide to talk to her about it afterwards rather than force it out at that moment.
  • Amelia shows fear at the possibility of failing the exams because she might lose her friendship with Boscha in the process. But Willow tells her that she worked hard (especially with her help), calls her smart and tells her she's gonna ace the test.
  • Lilith surprises the test proctors by coming to observe the exams over investigating the muggers. She states she's checking on her protégé, and Steve lets slip that she's also checking on her niece.
  • Anu Bist sticks up for his students when Craig calls them rejects.
  • As it turns out, Principal Bump had spoken to Anu Bist and decided the troublemakers can apply their mixed-magic techniques and if they impress him, he'll not only allow them to multi-track, he'll offer other students the option next semester.
    • How did this happen? Turns out most of the Abomination track students excelled in their temporary tracks while the classroom was having the ghosts cleared out and Bump realized having a student in a track with perks that they had no talent in was stopping them from succeeding. As such, he's giving the offer to multi-track so they can branch out and find what works for them.
    • And to think even though it was an impulsive prank she came to regret, Luz was responsible for Bump coming to this conclusion. All this came to be the moment she threw the ghost ball into Amity's cauldron.
  • Luz briefly shows concern that the moment the troublemakers succeed, they may just go their separate ways. However, Viney, Jerbo and Barcus assure her they'll still be friends.
  • It ended up biting her hard later, but Luz threatened Boscha to leave Willow alone in her defense. She always tried to do what she thought was the right way to protect her friends.
  • Emira, seeing Amity conflicted about what their mother said to her, encourages her to go talk to Luz. Great minds think alike, as Viney (aided by Barcus) drags Luz over to talk to Amity after learning Luz is afraid she did something wrong.
  • As Willow begins her duel against Simon Saltstar, they find common ground when they learn they both work out. As the duel goes on, Simon admits Willow's stronger than everyone says.
  • Once Amity's duel against Dolly Tempus ends, she thanks Phil for his assistance. Not only did she keep Luz's nickname for him, she treats him like a person.
    • Lilith soon appears before Amity to give her congratulations for passing her duel and learns about what Odalia said to Amity. Noticing how upset her pupil sounds, Lilith promises to speak to the Blight matriarch.
  • During his duel with Cat, Gus mentally thanks Luz when he applies stealth tactics from her ninja manga. When he wins, he apologizes to Cat when she's sent to the Shadow Realm.
  • Despite being paired against each other, Viney and Jerbo both agree not to hold back.
    • Not to mention, Emira is watching their duel, cheering for Viney.
  • While waiting for her duel to begin, Luz had befriended the reptile guy, Louis, and thanks him for listening to her before it does.
  • The second Brucy (Luz's bat) comes to life, he calls Luz "mom". He immediately takes to calling her "boss" upon her request.
  • As Boscha's beatdown on Luz becomes more severe, Lilith and Principal Bump attempt to stop the duel. Their efforts are in vain, but they're still trying.

    Chapter 22: Changes
  • The chapter begins on a flashback to the moment 5-year-old Luz first learned the light spell. The second it happens, she, Eda and King proudly declare she'll be the greatest witch in the Boiling Isles one day. A true family/kodak moment at its finest.
  • Following Willow and Simon's match, Gus makes sure the healer checking up on Willow after she passed out can contact him. When he leaves to go see Luz's match, he finds the troublemakers having passed their duels as well and congratulates them before they all go to find Luz.
    • Viney and Jerbo kept their word: they really didn't hold back and their efforts have paid off.
  • Right before the transformed Luz can kill Boscha, she manages to hear Amity's voice from within her mind telling her to stop along with Lilith. Luz begins to wrestle her inner self for control of her body admitting she started her feud with Boscha and she has to be the bigger person if she wants to be better with help from the people who accept and love her.
    • Once the match ends and Luz changes back, Lilith quickly jumps in and carries her unconscious niece out in her arms.
  • It takes receiving some punishment, but Skara manages to get through to Bo and apologize for throwing their friendship away. Bo accepts Skara's apology and gives her one too, with both girls deciding to start over. Even their test proctor says it's a touching moment.
  • Before Craig can arrest Principal Bump, Lilith saves his bacon by firing Craig for allowing Boscha to get away with hurting Luz. She got Luz justice that Eda didn't get.
  • For what Boscha did, Amity decks her hard and ends their friendship, telling Boscha to stay away from Luz.
  • Upon finding Luz's room after she's healed, Amity pulls her into a sobbing hug: Luz comforts her and when she confesses she doesn't know what happened to her, Amity returns the reassurance by saying she'll figure it out. All this while keeping her hand placed on top of Luz's and sharing a moment before they both look away blushing and change topics.
    • Once Gus and the troublemakers find the girls, Viney apologizes for probably interrupting them.
  • Skara thanks Willow for setting her straight and apologizes for never doing anything while Boscha and Amity picked on her. Willow accepts it and forgives her.
  • When Lilith arrives at Blight Manor, she comes across Alador, who greets and addresses her by her title. She tells him not to be so formal and becomes interested with his latest invention and asking about it.
  • At the end of the exams, Principal Bump proceeds to announce the installation of the Multi-track option and honors his deal with the troublemakers, making them the first students to study under it.
    • To make the option official to other students, Bump offers Amity the choice to study illusions along with abominations first. Seeing Edric and Emira encouraging her to take it helps her accept.
    • Upon receiving his new uniform, Barcus happily says his parents and his sister (who's actually a cat) will be so proud of him.
    • Before Principal Bump makes Luz an All-tracker, he notes how much she's improved, then Luz remembers her advice to Mabel and Eda's advice to her and decides to study just one track, the explanation becoming a speech that gets a standing ovation:
Luz: I wanted to take all the tracks so that I could be a powerful witch like my mom. But... she told me that I should be my own witch. To tell you the truth, when I first came to Hexside I just wanted to learn as much as I could and then leave just as fast. I didn't like school. But a lot has changed recently and I realized that... I want to take things slow and enjoy the journey instead of being so focused on the destination. Maybe I can learn from more tracks in the future, but for the moment I'm in no rush. I've learned that I like school and I don't intend to leave it anytime soon. (She notices Anu Bist in the back of the room and smiles at him.) I have my whole life ahead of me and I intend to take it one day at a time. (Everyone is surprised by what Luz was saying, while Willow and Gus both look proud of their friend.) I know that I'm a human, that I'm not a typical student. And I know that I can be... difficult. But I'm trying to work on that and be a better person, which I think Hexside can really help me with. I've made some amazing friends in just one semester alone. So by taking it slow, I hope to just not become the best witch that I can be... but also the best version of myself in general. Saying sorry may not be enough for any student or teacher that fell victim to my tricks, schemes, cons or shenanigans, which I totally get. I'm not asking for forgiveness, I'm just asking for a chance to prove that I can change and change for the better. A chance to let my actions speak louder than my words. That's what I'm hoping for at least. I don't know what next semester will hold, but I do know that I won't have to worry about facing it alone. I wouldn't be here at all if people didn't believe in my potential. And I know those people will stand by me, no matter what I choose. But I guess we'll have to see, won't we?
    • Gus and Willow are the first people to start clapping for her and Principal Bump even sheds a tear and says it was beautiful.
  • Lilith makes good on her talk with Odalia, effectively blackmailing her into letting Amity remain friends with Luz, stating she's simply looking out for the best interests of her pupil/goddaughter. All this while she also defends her niece from Odalia's insults.
  • As the girls in question leave the convention hall, Amity reveals what her mother told her to Luz and confides that their time spent together means so much to her, calling Luz her best friend. And when Amity starts to cry over losing that and chastise herself, Luz hugs her while crying herself and comforts Amity with this line:
"If you're an idiot, then you're my idiot, Little Miss Perfect."
    • As this happens, Puck watches them from the roof, singing about how much he ships them.
  • Simon apologizes to Willow for insulting her, calling her strong and saying she truly is as wise as Luz had told him, which amazes her. He leaves asking her to join him for a workout session and calls her "Wise Witch Willow". When Willow complains about having another nickname, Skara tells her it's true which makes Willow blush.
  • When Gus expresses his surprise about Luz's decision, Viney says her happiness is what matters.
  • Bo patches Mattholomule up and tells him even though he doesn't have to rejoin the H.A.S. next semester, she tells him she hopes he does, giving him a suckerpop and he promises to think about it.
  • As Boscha gets scolded by her mother Nicole, her other mother Athena tells her to ease up, seeing Boscha's tired and allowing her to go rest.
  • The second Amity hears Odalia say she can continue seeing Luz, she texts the rebel, who lets out a Big "YES!" and sprints home to pull Eda and King into a hug and reveal her new track uniform to them.

Chapter 23: Doctor's Visit and Party Incidents
  • It gets awkward fast, but it's still very considerate of Hooty to help Luz practice asking Amity out. And after he gets too into it and rejects Luz, Brucy hits him in her defense.
  • Cat (fresh out of remedial classes) invites Amity over to her brother's party to get her to have some fun and not worry about school. Amity agrees to check it out.
  • To get an understanding on her condition, Luz asks Viney and Puddles to take her to her doctor in Latissa, Dr. Bride. She also provides Viney a weapon to ward off any creeps.
    • Despite Luz showing up for a reason other than her usual checkup, Dr. Bride agrees to take a look at her with Iggy using a weighted blanket to calm her down.
    • During the checkup, Dr. Bride shows admiration for how much Luz has accomplished at school, especially on her crush.
    • Before the girls leave, Viney asks Dr. Bride for something to help her find out what's happening to Luz as well, wishing to help her friend.
  • At Hexside, Lilith asks Principal Bump to keep Luz's condition a secret for the other students' safety as well as her own. She also tells him to keep her updated on her niece and to not let anything happen to her.
  • Before leaving the school, Lilith has a flashback to when she was a student, dating Odalia and getting Eda out of trouble. She remembers those days so fondly, even though she has to move forward.
  • With the reveal that Luz and Hunter are old friends, they immediately begin to catch up, with Luz sending Viney home while she heads back to Boneborough with him.
    • It's also revealed that Hunter's one of Eda's most frequent customers, having gotten comics, manga and martial arts stuff from her.
    • In a flashback, Luz saved Hunter from Tibbles' bodyguard and suggested the M.A. stuff for him along with giving him a few glyph cards all to defend himself. She related with his inability to use magic and became his friend as a result.
    • Hunter knows how close Luz and Willow are and gives his sympathy upon hearing they're still not talking to each other.
    • Seeing Luz blush when she talks about Amity and reads the text she received from her, Hunter encourages her to ask the Blight out at the Harwitch party. With some prodding, the two begin to race there with Luz letting Eda know where she's going.
  • King tends to hang out with Morton and Tiny Nose whenever he wants to have his own adventures. They all enjoy it, even if no one but us knows about them.
  • Edric and Emira accompany Amity on the ride to Cat's party, promising that they'll come get her if she wants to leave but telling her to enjoy the party.
  • While talking with Skara, Amity is taken aback when she hears the Bard considered inviting Willow and Bo to the party; Skara admits she regrets picking on Willow, calling her strong and nice as her face is turning red.
    • Skara then tries to get Amity to open up about the knife because she's concerned for her and tells her she can talk to her. Amity brushes Skara off, but does realize later that she was too harsh on her.
    • Before things got bad, Amity saw one of Cat's family photos which reminded her of Luz's family and how much love is between them.
  • The second Luz arrives in the Harwitch home, she finds she's in Cat's little brother's room and says he reminds her of King. She soon discovers Amity's in trouble and comes to her defense by fighting her muggers: during the fight, Skara provides some assistance for her.
  • When Luz goes to check on Amity, who ends up clinging to her as she cries into her shoulder, Luz comforts her, returns her necklace and agrees to stay with her as Cat heals her bruises. Even when Luz learns she took a knife to her back, she assures Amity her safety is what mattered.
  • Once Amity's been checked over and Cat has informed the twins of what happened, Luz proceeds to carry her all the way home to Blight Manor in her arms bridal style. Talk about going the distance.
    • Before the girls leave, Skara tells Amity to contact her when she got home to let her know she got there and Cat promises to make it up to her.
    • In addition, Hunter puts his number in Luz's scroll so they keep in touch with each other more often.
  • When the girls reach the manor and Amity expresses a desire to escape the Boiling Isles for just a day, Luz seizes the chance to ask her out by inviting her to spend the next day in Gravity Falls and she accepts.
    • Ed and Em emerge from the door to check on Amity, while also admitting they eavesdropped on them. All teasing aside, Emira genuinely thanks Luz for being around to protect their sister and the girls part promising to see each other the next day for their date.
  • After giving Emperor Belos his report on Luz, Hunter asks for reconfirmation that they'll help Luz with her condition. Luz is all but confirmed to be Hunter's first real friend and he truly wants to aid her, with the chapter ending on a flashback where Hunter hopes he'll see Luz again after their first meeting.

    Chapter 24: Human Date
  • In preparation for Luz's date with Amity, Dipper makes sure Mabel is distracted so she doesn't interfere, that Blubs and Durland know Luz is coming ahead of time and they won't cause her trouble if she doesn't either. Dips makes for a pretty good wingman.
  • Skara, Amelia and Cat all call Amity to make sure she's okay with Cat taking full responsibility for what happened. Amity assures her it's not her fault. When Skara suggests the four of them have a girls' day, Amity tells them she has plans but promises she'll talk again soon.
  • Not knowing about human fashion, Amity goes to Gus for suggestions and he agrees to help, no questions asked.
  • After receiving a message from Vanz Ator telling her he can help with her condition, Luz heads to his shop where he gives her a bracelet that'll help her control her scales. Vanz tells Luz that it's an already-paid-for gift from a mutual friend of both of them.
  • Edric and Emira helping Amity pick out an outfit for her date.
  • To prep Luz for the date, Eda takes her to a salon to get her hair done, then helps her pick out an outfit. She tells Luz that she needs to put in some effort to look nice to show she's taking it seriously and showing Amity the best version of herself, which helps put her nerves at ease.
  • Luz and Amity are both left speechless when they see how the other looks in their respective date outfits. It's a good example of what happens in a real life scenario.
  • In addition to the portal key, Eda gives Luz a bag containing Owlbert to show Amity some sights. Luz is surprised Eda trusts her with Owlbert and Eda explains that Owlbert asked to help and she trusts Luz with him.
  • Once the girls arrive in Gravity Falls, Dipper and Stan greet them. Amity gives Dipper a book on the Boiling Isles demons and when Soos takes the girls into town, Dipper and Stan admit that even though they're hopeless in getting dates, they'll always have each other to rely on.
  • Mabel, Candy and Grenda help Pacifica get out of being in the parade so she can hang out with them. When Pacifica expresses her dissatisfaction about being used as a promotional item for her family, Mabel comforts her.
  • Naturally, Amity's childlike wonder at seeing and learning about the wonders of the human world is adorable, especially her developing a liking to cola.
  • Mabel, given her love of anything 80's, naturally compliments Amity's appearance when she meets her.
  • When Mabel realizes she's intruding on Luz's date, she chooses to leave them alone by choice. It hasn't been that long since she learned her lesson, but she does remember it and is trying to keep it in mind.
    • Pacifica comes to drag Mabel away, still remaining neutrally formal with Luz.
  • Once Mabel's gone, Luz tells Amity that despite Mabel's flaws, Luz understands her reasons for wanting to spend time with her.
  • After seeing Amity in shock from overhearing Rev. Jones, Luz offers to take her home if she wants: when Amity says no, not wanting to let that ruin the trip, Luz decides to take her mind off it with laser tag, even inviting an eavesdropping Mabel, her friends and Soos to join them.
  • Nate happily greeting Luz upon seeing she's back. Despite the previous implication with Tambry, Wendy's friends (minus Robbie) are cool with her.
  • Wendy elbowing Robbie when he insults Amity, then inviting Luz's group to join them for a game of laser tag engaging in playful banter with Luz.
  • Luz and Mabel helping Amity and Pacifica out with learning the game, since it's their first time playing.
  • Soos is more than honored to be on the same team as Gravity Falls' Loveable Rogue, getting a smile out of Luz.
  • During the match:
    • Nate and Lee hit each other and apologize, happy that they were hit by their best bro.
    • Luz apologizes to Thompson for hitting him. Given what he has to go through, it's really considerate.
    • Soos doesn't hold it against Amity when she accidentally shoots him, citing it as a first timer mistake.
    • Mabel coming to Pacifica's rescue, calling herself "her savior".
  • Once the game ends, Luz offers condolences to Amity on her losing. Amazingly, she doesn't mind and cares more about having fun with each other, leaving Luz flushed.

Chapter 25: Good from the Bad
  • After seeing Robbie get kidnapped by the Blind Eye Society, Amity, refusing to let what happened to Levi be repeated, recovers her nerve determined to help Robbie.
  • Mabel comforting Pacifica after she came in last place during the laser tag match.
  • In saving Robbie, Amity sics Phil on the van while Luz uses her transformed state revealing themselves to the Pines twins, Soos, Wendy and Mabel's friends to do it and promising an explanation.
  • Given Robbie's state after he's rescued, Mabel tells Pacifica (feeling unappreciated) he needs time to recover from the shock.
  • Blubs thanks the girls for their help in preventing what they assume to be a missing person's case, Durland and Mabel especially giving Amity praise (and a sticker calling her a hero from Mabel.) The fact that Blubs and Durland are taking their jobs seriously is something to admire.
  • When Robbie decides to leave Gravity Falls:
    • He decides to end things with Wendy knowing she won't come with him. Despite the feeling that comes with being dumped for once, she supports him and agrees to it with a hug assuring they're still friends.
    • Lee, Nate and Thompson fist bump him goodbye. Tambry (who we know is into him) tells him to be safe and to keep in touch so she knows he's safe. She also doesn't mind Robbie calling her "Tambers" much.
    • Robbie tells Dipper that despite their differences, to look after Wendy for him to which they fist bump, too.
    • And finally, he thanks Amity for her help and that he owes her one.
  • Before Blubs and Durland leave to take Robbie home, he tells Amity to enjoy the rest of the day and for Luz to show her a good time. Despite the chaos Luz causes them, they admit the girls look cute together.
  • After learning about the discrimination Luz faced her whole life, Mabel hugs her and says she deserves it, telling Luz she is loved and appreciated.
  • When Luz explains her condition to everyone, they admit it makes her even cooler than they thought and Dipper reminds her it's normal compared to everything else in town. Mabel also reminds her she's hers and Dipper's family and they'll be there for her.
  • As Luz takes Amity to play mini-golf, Mabel takes Pacifica home apologizing for things going crazy. Paz doesn't care as long as they can hang out.
  • Tats decides to become the church's new reverend, hoping his mother will be proud of him for it. Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas, indeed.
  • After dropping off Pacifica at Northwest Manor, Mabel makes her laugh, which leaves her bashful. Before she heads for home, Pacifica pulls her into a hug, with Mabel calling her a natural. Pacifica then looks at a selfie with her friends and says she prefers how weird things get with them.
  • While playing mini-golf, Luz shows Amity how to play. As they go, they get to talking about what to expect at school next semester.
    • Luz mentions that Eda told her about an old friend, Raine Whispers, and how they were in the Bard track.
  • Luz confesses part of her plan for the new semester is repairing her friendship with Willow. She encourages Amity to do the same and she decides to at least apologize for her past antagonizing.
  • To finish off their date, Luz uses Owlbert to give Amity an aerial tour of the Northwestern U.S.... complete with a cover of "A Whole New World".
    • By the song's end, Amity decides to stop focusing on the bad things that occur, stating she and Luz wouldn't have been friends if she did.
  • When it's time for the girls to leave, Mabel expresses hope the Pines can visit the Boiling Isles someday and gives Amity a cooler of cola as a parting gift.
  • After arriving at Blight Manor, Amity thanks Luz for the trip, truly appreciative. Luz ends up staring at her while she's fixing her hair and ends up acting on impulse again, which leads to...
    • A complete reversal to the Big Damn Cheek Kiss from "Through the Looking Glass Ruins", with Luz kissing Amity's cheek. Both girls blush and Amity's eyes widen in surprise, which causes Luz to start stammering before preparing to leave...
    • Only for the trope to be played straight with Amity stopping Luz from leaving and pulling her into a real kiss. Once Luz gets past the initial shock, she immediately melts into it and kisses back. They soon pull out of it and share a Held Gaze.
    • After Owlbert takes a frozen Luz home, the twins (who were spying on them again) come out, with Edric congratulating Amity for her initiative and Emira asking how her first kiss felt. Once they realize she's catatonic, they bring her inside.

    Chapter 26: Back to Hexside
  • Upon returning home from her date, Luz immediately let Eda and King know she kissed Amity which they congratulate her on.
  • Even though there's an obvious awkwardness between them now, both Luz and Amity do decide to talk about the kiss when the time is right.
  • As strange as it is given the fact that it's Nicole who delivers the message, the fact that the Parent Creature Association decided to install a curfew for the students' protection due to the muggings is both proactive and considerate.
  • As it turns out, Cat befriended Gus having no hard feelings about him beating her at the semester exams. This also results in Luz's Big Sister Instinct towards Gus being shown for the first time.
  • True to Anu Bist's word, Barcus, with help from Jerbo, collects all the supplies needed to hold a séance so Luz can talk to her birth mother.
  • Upon entering Principal Bump's office and coming face to face with the PCA, Eda fondly remembers Alador and greets Athena like an old friend. And despite not remembering Slasher (Skara's father), he does act civil towards Eda.
  • Now that Luz is in the Bard track, Skara decides to become friends with her since Amity managed to. Once they're forced to work on a group project and Luz voices her appreciation, Skara's more than happy to help her learn.
  • Unlike Professor Blanc, Professor Snope actually encourages his students in the Abomination track (which only have Amity and Jerbo now) and helps them improve their abominations or themselves, for that matter.
  • Eda, faced with the PCA complaining about all the trouble Luz caused during the previous semester, points out all the good that came from it, especially with the creation of the multi-track system, which is granting students better learning opportunities. As Eda says, Luz has changed things at Hexside for the better and is a much better student than she was because of it.
  • When Nicole questions the validity of Eda adopting Luz, the Owl Lady (happy to always prove her wrong) pulls out adoption papers saying she is Luz's mother. And the best part, a Flashback reveals she got the papers from Larry!
  • After making her statement, Eda proceeds to really lay into Odalia for gunning after her kid and acting like she's worrying over Amity. In addition, Eda admits it's incredible that Amity grew up to be so sweet and patient in spite of having Odalia as her mother (showing how much she holds the girl in high regards) and states she's a contributing factor in Luz doing so much growing up.
    • It's also worth noting that by this point Eda, who's known for not being able to remember most people's names, no longer has that issue with Amity.
    • Alador agrees with Eda in saying Amity's grown much stronger because of Luz's influence. He even defends Luz by pointing out how much trouble Boscha has caused.
  • When Willow is brought up, both Slasher and Harlan (Amelia's father) voice positive thoughts about her based on what their daughters have told them. According to Slasher specifically, Skara's been talking about Willow non-stop.
  • Before her first Illusions class, Amity finds herself talking to Gus about their respective trips to the human world.
  • She may be intimidating but Ms. Traveler, the new guidance counselor, makes good on her vow to help improve students' mental health as shown after her first counseling session with Mattholomule.
  • Luz seeks out Anu Bist in getting a clear answer about her condition. While he doesn't give her an actual answer, he does have faith that she'll figure it out for herself.
    • Ms. Traveler can see why both the jackal and Puck are so fond of her and is certain that Luz will talk with her about her problems eventually.
  • Amity makes good on giving Willow a genuine apology for antagonizing her in the past, wanting to be a better person in the future. Even with her undecided opinion of Amity at the moment, Willow does accept the apology and takes her suggestion to talk to Luz.
  • Ms. Traveler voices her opinion to the parents gathered in Bump's office saying they should think about what kind of relationship they want with their children, sticking up for them being their own people.
  • Eda's defeating the Greater Basilisk (serving as a moment of awesome) is followed by a Declaration of Protection:
"As long as my daughter remains in this school, all threats to Hexside will be dealt with by me! And since Hexside is my turf, these students are mine to protect from danger."
  • Ms. Traveler admits that while she meant what she said about Eda being an idiot who's too lax as a parent, she isn't a bad parent as she did her best under her given circumstances stating that Luz will appreciate it one day.
  • Cat and Simon have joined the Human Appreciation Society out of genuine interest while Mattholomule decides to rejoin to Bo's happiness. Gus apologizes for them not helping Matt with Boscha and declares they won't leave anyone behind from now on.
  • At the end of the day, Viney discovers her fated love letter (which Emira slipped into her locker earlier and wrote it as a secret admirer). When she's ready to dismiss it as a prank, Luz tells her she and Brucy will be there to help her if it is.
  • Before leaving school, Luz spots Willow and decides to talk to her hoping to patch things up. She gets hit with a bad memory that stops her, though.
  • Awkwardness aside, Luz still invites Amity to the séance since the rest of her closest friends will be there.
    • Before that, Eda happily greets the Blight when she comes to take Luz home.
  • Luz seems to have made it a priority to inform Dipper about any updates about her condition.
  • Because of the incident at the party, Lilith has taken the precaution of having Steve escort Amity to and from school as a bodyguard.

    Chapter 27: Maternal Aspiration
  • Any scenes or flashbacks involving Lilith and Amity have some tender moments:
    • After scolding Amity for missing the witch's duel, Lilith saw she was being harsh on her and eased up, gently caressing her pupil's hair. When she gives the suggestion to keep an eye on her sister and niece, Lilith assures Amity she'll be helping her figure out if Luz is in danger of Eda harming her while not pressuring Amity into taking the deal giving her a choice to back out.
    • Lilith shows legitimate concern towards Amity upon learning about the Greater Basilisk attack, caring about her well being.
    • Lilith's deal with Amity means she's been spending more time with the girl, so much so that she's even got her own room to stay in at Blight Manor. The morning after Amity spent the night at the Owl House, Lilith's there to question her about her sneaking out: upon learning of Amity's mugging, Lilith embraces her telling her to not be afraid to cry, saying she'll never consider her weak and that she'd never live with herself if anything happened to her.
    • After Luz brought Amity home from Dog's party, Lilith took over comforting her goddaughter from the twins, referring to her as her "Starlight", being grateful to Luz for saving her and promising she won't go anywhere either.
      • In total, there's no denying that Luz is the reason why Lilith started being in Amity's life more.
    • A flashback shows the moment Amity called Lilith "mom". Lilith brushes it off as a slip of the tongue, but can't help smiling a bit when Amity's not looking.
  • Even though Luz and Willow still haven't repaired their friendship, Willow still comes to the séance after Gus told her about it so she can give Luz emotional support.
  • Giving Emira alone time with her shrine, Edric decides to go encourage Amity to attend the séance telling her it's okay to feel weird about the kiss and that being a good friend matters too. Seems he's really trying hard to be a better brother.
    • A few minutes later, Puck arrives to talk with Amity. After hearing about her date with Luz and learning about the séance, Puck surprises her by not telling her what he thinks she should do: rather, he tells her she has agency over her life and it's her decision alone. This ultimately helps Amity make up her mind and choose to go.
      • Puck offers to take Amity to the Owl House and back home without asking for something in return. He tells her he's not sure why he's helping, he just feels like he needs to, admitting he isn't proud of his past and is trying to do good now.
  • Upon seeing Raine while at the castle, Lilith decides to spend time catching up with them. She informs them of what Eda's been up to since they parted ways and when Raine asks if she ever though of having kids and she says she wouldn't be a good parent, they tell Lilith she'd at least be more responsible than Eda.
    • A flashback into their Hexside days shows Odalia actually being a good girlfriend to Lilith and encouraging her to try out for the Emperor's Coven.
  • Before the séance begins, Eda finds Luz worrying about how her human mother will react to her lifestyle: Eda comforts her by saying the most important thing is that she's alive and happy which will matter most to her.
  • The séance itself:
    • Once Camila's spirit is summoned, she looks around and instantly recognizes Luz (who's revealed to retain some memory of her mother speaking Spanish) and the two embrace for the first time in 14 years.
    • When Camila meets Eda, who explains how she came to and did her best to raise Luz, Camila hugs and thanks her for being the mother she wasn't able to be.
    • Luz proceeds to introduce Camila to King and Hooty (both of whom she pets), then all her friends (listing their dreams or what they mean to her) and when Luz gets to Amity, she struggles to introduce her until Amity calls herself Luz's girlfriend if she'll have her. Camila gives her blessing at the two being together and says Luz is lucky to have so many wonderful people in her life.
    • When asked about the car crash, Camila says that she tried to protect Luz from the impact.
    • Once time is up, Luz says she hopes she and Camila will talk more in the future and they both manage to say "I love you" before Camila's spirit disappears. Despite crying afterwards, Luz is glad to know Camila does love her.
  • After Luz thanks her for coming to the séance and asks if she does want to be her girlfriend, Amity confirms it saying that although she doesn't know what's in store for her future anymore, she wants to be with Luz. They ultimately agree to have a Secret Relationship for the time being.
  • Seeing Gus sad because of his mom, Luz promises him that they'll find her someday.
  • Before Amity heads home, Luz kisses her nose as "something to remember her by": in return, Amity gives her a peck on the cheek and the two hug before separating for the night. When Puck asks how things are between the girls, Amity tells him they're fine and they'll figure it all out together.

    Chapter 28: Regretful Decisions
  • Willow, Gus and Amity all come to watch and support Luz during her project presentation with Skara.
  • When Boscha comes to try and attack Luz blaming her for the pixie infestation, Skara defends the rebel providing an airtight alibi. Ms. Traveler also confirms it and gets Boscha to stand down.
    • Ms. Traveler also tells Luz her door's always open if she ever wants to talk.
  • In the month following the slayground incident, King tried to comfort Luz by helping her learn how to perform magic without relying on glyphs. The theory was way off, but still, he tried.
  • On the way to the carnival with King, Luz immediately invites Amity to go with them and decides to do the same with Hunter a moment later, wanting to spend time with all three of them.
  • Raine decides to visit Eda while the kids are out and they spend that time catching up. Raine allows Eda to vent her problems while telling her of their plan to find allies within the coven system.
  • Ed and Em are fully aware their sister's got a girlfriend now and despite the teasing, they're still supportive of them.
  • After returning home after the séance and being cornered by Lilith, Amity stands up not just for herself about making her own decisions, but for Luz and Eda saying their happiness matters, too. Lilith admits she just doesn't want Amity to set herself up for hurting herself and she does understand how she feels.
    • It's also shown that Amity's doubting the coven system in general after what happened in Luz and Boscha's duel, wanting to believe there's more than one way for witches to learn magic properly.
  • Since Luz wants to be a better person, she stops King from pickpocketing someone citing it as Amity having rubbed off on her.
  • As Luz starts to try and find Gus after learning he's with Cat, King informs Amity of how protective she is over those closest to and younger than her, i.e. Gus and Dipper. Amity automatically says she likes that quality.
    • Strange as her strategy was, Luz trying to keep Gus from getting hurt (despite how unlikely it is that Cat, a healer would hurt him) really is admirable.
    • The only reason Luz is being so protective is because she doesn't want anything to hurt him, especially herself. The reason she hasn't told him about the darker aspects of the human world is because he might become afraid of her. Amity consoles her by saying after just a few classes together, she knows Gus thinks highly of Luz and that'll never change.
    • Once it becomes clear that Gus and Cat won't stop being friends no matter what she tries, Luz accepts she's just hurting the both of them and Gus is free to hang out with whoever he sees fit.
  • Ms. Traveler tries her best to help Boscha start changing her ways, having seen other girls like her before.
  • Seeing King depressed, Willow and Skara hear him air out his concerns that Luz doesn't need him anymore as he remembers how they were as kids. Willow reminds him that Luz will always need him. And when he starts crying after reliving the memory of Luz drinking Eda's elixir, Willow's first thought is to bring him to Luz as she comforts him.
  • The second Puck spots Luz and Amity in the audience while he's torturing Tibbles, he stops. And when Luz chews him out because she nearly took the fall for him causing the pixie infestation, he apologizes. Puck really holds the girls' opinions of him in high regard.
    • Amity knows Puck meant well and gets Luz to ease up on him.
  • According to Cat, Hunter's seeing someone. It's nice to know Luz isn't the only person he's close to when he's not being the Golden Guard.
  • To help Amity with her doubts, Lilith brought her before the Emperor, who reveals that Lilith speaks very highly of her goddaughter. Amity used the meeting as an opportunity to convince Belos to show the Clawthornes mercy.
  • Even though she's under the effects of an everlasting oath, Amity still tried to tell Luz about her deal with Lilith.

    Chapter 29: I'm Fine Memories
  • Once she sees King (who's still being consoled by Willow and Skara (who's feeding him food)) in his saddened state, Luz takes him, assumes it's because she didn't spend any time with him and apologizes. Willow also tells her she'll be on standby if Luz needs her.
  • Before Hunter heads for home, he says bye to Gus and Willow (calling them Gussamer and Flower Girl) while Skara remembers their meeting at the party, getting a chuckle out of him. He also wishes Luz good luck with her new girlfriend.
  • On the way home, Luz learns about King's guilt and tells him he's not a burden to her or Eda, that he'll always be her family and that they'll still be close even if they don't commit crimes anymore.
  • Once the kids get home, Raine greets them and gives Luz romantic advice on serenading while sharing a smile with Eda, having used that on her.
    • Before Raine leaves, Eda tells them to not be afraid to drop by the Owl House.
  • Skara, still worried about Amity and the knife, asks her mother Calypso about it being careful not to namedrop her friend. Calypso believes it may be self-harm and decides to talk to Principal Bump about it the next day.
  • After the elixir incident, Eda told Luz and King about her curse so they'd understand why she drank elixirs and why she was afraid of letting them know. The two hug her and apologize while she does the same.
    • In the present, Eda says that day brought them closer and that she could never hate King, calling him one of her kids. The two admit they see each other as mother and son and share a hug.
  • Professor Snope takes notice of Amity's stoic behavior and tries to get her to talk to him, unaware it's the "Inner Amity".
  • Amity begs her inner self not to break up with Luz, but Inner Amity says she can't as their feelings for Luz are too strong to even try that.
  • Viney, learning that Luz thinks Willow is better off not having her for a friend, tells Luz that Willow can have other friends and still be hers, encouraging her to go talk to her or she'll drag Luz to the table Willow's sitting at herself.
  • Four years ago while showing off some snap poppers to Willow, Luz stood up to a trio of bullies who were trying to pick on her friend. Unfortunately, Luz cut Willow's cheek by accident during an episode and felt extremely guilty about it; it was only after coming home that she learned Willow covered for her. Willow also says she knows Luz is a good person if a bit rough around the edges, a sentiment she holds to this day.
  • Luz and Willow finally talk to each other about how they both made mistakes and how they (and the rest of their friends like Amity and Skara) are trying to change for the better. Willow knows Luz has done a lot of growing up (while having the same effect on Amity) and now does her best to make up for her mistakes. They both admit they missed each other and engage in a thumb war officially restoring their friendship, much to Gus' happiness.
    Gus: Finally... everyone's friends again.

    Chapter 30: Understanding Amity
  • Following the end of the last chapter, Bo and Cat help the nurse treat the unconscious Amity while Luz, Willow, Gus, Skara, Amelia, the troublemakers and Edric & Emira are gathered outside waiting for any news.
    • As Emira's Big Sister Instinct kicks in and she goes after Skara for letting Amity burn her memories, Edric and Willow defend the bard and try to get Em to calm down. Surprisingly, it's Luz who gets Em to stop, and this is while trying to keep herself from falling apart over worrying about her girlfriend.
  • In addition to excusing Luz from her classes to bring Amity to Eda, Principal Bump also allows Willow, Gus, Skara and the twins to go too so Amity will have emotional support when she recovers (with Calypso allowing it knowing Skara won't focus on school because of this) and making sure the other students gathered will get them caught up on the work they miss.
  • Luz has to carry Amity to the Owl House piggyback style, all while the amnesiac Blight plays with Luz's hair like a little kid.
  • While choosing who goes into Amity's mind to fix her memories, Luz naturally volunteers: she says she owes Amity too much not to do it.
    • The twins can't be trusted to fix Amity's memories, but that didn't stop them from volunteering.
    • Skara and Gus nominate Willow to accompany Luz since she knew Amity longer than any of them, making her the perfect candidate for the job.
  • After sending Luz and Willow in and being questioned by Skara about trusting Luz with something so dangerous, Eda tells her she has faith her daughter's gonna save her girl.
  • Some of Amity's good memories include reading to kids and babysitting Braxas. Even her first meeting with Luz is one: even though it ended with the 9-year-old Clawthorne scamming her out of her allowance, Amity still gave her 390 snails out of the goodness of her heart.
  • Ms. Traveler decides to use what happened to Amity as a wake-up call for Odalia and Alador to be more involved in their children's lives. Odalia wastes no time asking where her baby girl is when she gets to the school, and after Ms. Traveler gets her to consider putting Amity in counseling for her sake and Alador agrees it'll be better in the long run, Odalia decides to consider it showing she can put her children's well-beings first with the right motivation.
  • Amity's whole relationship with Luz takes up the entire romance section of her memories, good and bad:
    • After Luz and Willow see the memory of the girls meeting again at Hexside and how much they used to hate each other, Luz states they only knew the façades they wore and it was only when they began the tutoring sessions and showed their vulnerabilities to each other that they became closer.
    • After Willow sees everything she missed about the girls' relationship up to their first kiss, she finally realizes what they see in each other and while she still doesn't forgive the Blight yet, Willow gives her support for their relationship.
  • Willow refuses to leave Amity to suffer at the Inner Demon's hands regardless of their past, stating she wouldn't even abandon Boscha to such a fate. She ultimately forgives Amity and manages to get through to her inner self about accepting change which plays a role in the Inner Demon's defeat.
  • As it turns out, Willow gave Amity her Azura Vol. 1 to her for her birthday when they ended their friendship, having watched the movies together at sleepovers.
  • After hearing out Skara about how their friendship wasn't real Amity apologizes for not giving her a chance, and the girls decide to start over with Skara inviting her, along with Willow, Gus and even Luz to her 15th birthday party.
  • Having been neglected by parents who never tried to understand him, Alador wants to be able to understand his own children and promises to find a compromise with them.
  • Odalia is shown to have kept in touch with her brother Geist so he can help her with a problem if she needs it.
  • Finding Lilith in her room, Amity assumes she's about to tell her off for what happened. Instead, Lilith pulls her into a hug crying in relief that Amity's safe and saying she never wants her to be put in that kind of situation again...
    • ...which leads Lilith to undo the everlasting oath while Amity's asleep, hoping when she does tell Luz the truth about their deal, she'll understand.

Chapter 31: Have a Little Hex with my Friends
  • After what happened at Cat's party, Skara's parents hire a bouncer to make sure no uninvited guests get in.
  • Using her own past experiences, Luz is able to motivate Viney into taking a chance at finding her secret admirer with the promise that she, Jerbo and Barcus will back her up no matter what.
  • Willow admits she became Simon's sparring partner over the break after he calls her his "favorite one".
  • Skara and Bo's hug after the latter arrives at the party declaring she wouldn't miss it.
  • After ending up together in a closet playing "Spin the Bottle", Willow and Skara get to talking about how they became friends, how much their respective friendships with Amity and Bo have gotten better, and how Willow believed Skara could change for the better. It ends up leading Skara to ask Willow to join her, Bo, Amelia and Cat on a shopping trip the next day for Grom outfits.
  • To pay back Amity the money she scammed out of her with interest, Luz enlists her and the multi-trackers into a legitimate monster-busting business.
  • Gus decides to interview Dipper for his journalism project calling him the most interesting and accomplished person for the job. Even though Dipper just swapped bodies with Mabel, they both still do the interview with Gus mentioning he knows some witch guys who wear dresses so he's not bugged by the inconvenience.
    • Dipper also allowed Mabel (in his body) to use the opportunity to bond with Stan.
  • Vee's backstory of her arrival on Earth has its moments: even though she tried to steal the portal key from Eda, Luz still wanted to help her after learning what she's been through and suggested she go to Gravity Falls, where she'll have an endless supply of magic to maintain a disguise. Before Vee left, Luz and Eda supplied her with magical artifacts they didn't need anymore for when she got hungry and Luz also tells her about Dipper so she'll find him in case she needs help.
    • After befriending and staying with the Multi-Bear for a few weeks, Vee hit the town pool and befriended Mermando, who she helped escape. Her actions in doing so led to her meeting Wendy & the Pines twins and Dipper took up working with her at the pool to pay for the supplies she damaged.
      • Considering how Mr. Poolcheck can be, he was still reasonable with Vee by giving her a job once he learned she didn't have parents.
    • Upon realizing who Dipper was, Vee explained everything to him, Mabel and their friends. Afterwards, Mabel made her a part of her friend group and talked Stan into letting Vee stay at the shack. Heck, Dipper and Mabel switched bodies with the electron carpet while they were setting up the guest room for her.
  • Luz gives Gus Eda's deck of Hexas Hold'em cards to give to Vee as a snack, which Vee says to Gus to tell Luz she said thanks. After he learns she's a basilisk, Gus says that if Luz trusts her, he does too.
  • Barcus' sister helps promote the Monster Fighters Club by airing an ad during her podcast.
  • During the MFC's first case, Amity lets Luz and the Multi-trackers know she's grateful they included her and they give her encouragement to do her best.
    • There's also her conversation with Viney, where she admits it's awesome Viney knows what she wants for her life.
  • During the shopping trip, Cat reveals Gus set her up to go to Grom with Simon (who she's attracted to) and in return, she got Amelia to go with him.
    • Upon hearing this, Willow gives Amelia a warning about Luz and her overprotective nature.
    • When Willow says there's nobody who'd ask her to Grom, Skara immediately (and nervously) jumps at the chance to ask her, albeit as Just Friends. Willow gratefully accepts Skara's proposal.
    • As the girls shop, Boscha watches them but despite being angry at them, she chooses not to engage them.
  • The MFC not only works well together, but rack up successful cases over the course of a few hours.
  • During the interview, Dipper lists all of his adventures with Mabel and admits they make a good team having come to accept her as a sister. Gus tells him he's lucky to have two siblings and Dipper tells him Luz sees Gus as a brother.
  • Vee and Wendy ending up in each other's bodies.
Wendy: (sporting Vee's eyes and ears) Huh, I actually look kinda cute like this.
Vee: Well, being you is pretty neat too.
  • After Dipper gets stuck in Wendy's body, his first instinct is to make sure he respects her boundaries by keeping his hands raised.
  • After learning Vee is technically an orphan, Blubs and Durland offer to help find a permanent home for her. This is because of the kidnappings, so they're worried something could happen to her. When she accepts, Durland offers to let her play with the siren as they leave.
    • Before Vee leaves, the twins, Wendy and Gus wish her luck and to not be a stranger.
  • Dipper suggests Mabel be part of the interview and Gus agrees to it. Once it's done, he spends his remaining time in Gravity Falls hanging out with them.
  • Even though she doesn't think highly of the Shadowy Secret Expozers, Luz still makes the call to get them out of harm's way from the Abomi-Skull.
  • The Held Gaze between Barcus and the Cerberus sisters, sparking their Ship Tease.
  • The MFC and the SSE agree to a truce long enough to capture the Abomi-Skull and manage to do so. They end up parting on good terms once the mystery's solved.
  • Despite being annoyed with Prof. Blanc most of the time, Principal Bump still would've given him another job at the school after replacing him with Prof. Snope.
  • After Bump gives the MFC their pay, Luz tells Amity the true reason she started the business. Amity reveals she forgot about Luz scamming her and that admits she's over it. Because of that, the girls and the multi-trackers agree to split their profits, Luz deciding they call Amelia (remembering she's a calculus whiz) to help do that.
  • To make up for not doing anything more than talking during "Spin the Bottle", Willow kisses Skara's cheek before heading home.
  • Boscha left Skara a birthday present on her porch, hinting she wants to make up.
  • Apparently, Emira asked Amity to get confirmation that Viney liked Em's letters. Amity gives Emira some encouragement to ask Viney out when she's ready and to give Viney a chance to return her feelings. Amity also decides to make a point about the twins punking Luz. No one messes with Ams' girlfriend.

Chapter 32: Grom: The Musical (Part 1)
  • During a tutoring session with Ms. Traveler, Amity sings "Distant Shore" describing how much of her life has changed since Luz became her friend and how she, Lilith, the twins, Willow and now Skara had been there to support her.
    • As she started to sing, she remembers Luz is outside the office waiting for her once her session ends.
  • Steve tries to keep Lilith in the loop on what's happening in the EC.
  • Odalia has a lot of surprisingly touching moments littered throughout the chapter.
    • Now that she knows about Amity's experiences, she makes sure she isn't nominated for Grom queen for her safety.
    • Odalia's been looking out for Alador since they were students, keeping Darius from messing with him along with Geist and making sure Alador takes care of himself since she knows his parents weren't.
    • She made sure to comfort Lilith when she was nominated for Grom queen.
    • She reveals to Amity her past with Lilith and the other reason why she made her Amity's godmother as well as her mentor: so there'd be someone to take Amity in should something happen to her and Alador.
  • Upon learning Willow's attending Grom with Skara, Luz immediately praises her for it (though she assumes it's as a date.)
  • Months ago, Emira met Viney while she was cleaning the beastkeeping pens as punishment for skipping class. She saw the detention tracker in action and fell for who she saw was a "cute nerd" who was good with animals.
    • Back in the present after she finishes remembering said meeting, Emira reveals herself as Viney's secret admirer and asks her to Grom. Remembering Luz's advice, Viney agrees.
  • A flashback reveals that despite Eda's distaste for romance, she still asked Raine to go with her to Grom and they said yes.
  • After learning Lilith was made Grom queen, Eda went straight to her to give her some support, especially since Lilith didn't believe in herself.
Teen Lilith: I don't think I have what it takes, Edalyn. I'm not... strong enough. Not like you are. Defeating Grom should've been given to someone else, because I am just going to end up failing.
Teen Eda: Hey, don't say that. (wraps her arm around Lilith) I've heard what your teachers say about you behind your back. They think that you're one of the brightest pupils they've ever had and that you may even be able to teach them a thing or two. You're incredible, Lily, and I have faith in you. You may not know it yet, but I do. One day you're going to be the most powerful witch in the Boiling Isles.
Teen Lilith: I thought you wanted to be the most powerful witch in the Boiling Isles.
Teen Eda: Why can't we both be? And when we join the Emperor's Coven, I'm going to be the one following your lead. This is just a chance for you to show everyone at Hexside what you're capable of. Show them that you're not the top of your class for nothing, sis.
Teen Lilith: Do you really think that?
Teen Eda: (smiles) And I mean every word of it.
  • After hearing about Emira and Viney, Edric asks his boyfriend (who's Real After All) to the dance if he can make it. The guy says he'd like to and show everyone they're not afraid to show how they feel about each other.
  • Both Eda and Lilith try to strongarm Principal Bump for an explanation on why Luz was nominated for Grom queen and try to get her out of it, worried about her not being able to face Grometheus the Fear Bringer. However, Eda decides to put her faith in Luz that she'll be victorious, not wanting to hold her back.
  • Boscha admits even she is disgusted with Nicole for nominating Luz for Grom queen and expecting her to fail, as Boscha doesn't want the rest of the students to get hurt in the process.
  • Luz and Amity spend the whole chapter wondering if they should go to Grom together as friends or as dates. While Luz doesn't care and leaves it up to Amity, the Blight does want to come out with their relationship but is still scared of her mother's opinion.
  • Using the newly repaired, sentient magic guitar Rocky, Luz sings "You're My First, My Last, My Everything" for Amity, who says she was able to feel Luz's feelings as she played.
  • After venting to Puck, Amity makes the decision to replace Luz as Grom queen feeling she owes Luz so much for everything she's done for Amity. While Luz is hesitant, she agrees as long as she can step in if Amity can't handle it and she and Puck begin training her for it.

Chapter 33: Grom: The Musical (Part 2)
  • The scenes of everyone getting ready for Grom have some good moments.
    • The flashback of Eda helping Lilith get ready by doing her hair.
    • Gwendolyn & Dell and Gilbert & Sully, like all camera-happy parents, take a lot of pictures of their daughters with their dates for Grom to preserve the memories.
    • Jerbo is serving as Barcus' wing-witch so he can help him ask the Cerberus sisters to dance, with his sister, Mewstic, helping him suit up.
    • Alador talking with Amity and telling her to have fun.
  • As the Clawthornes give Amity a ride and she and Luz compliment each other's outfits, King gets annoyed with their flirting but Eda tells him to leave them be, seeing they're happy.
  • At her Grom, Eda confessed to Raine (who pointed out why it made no sense for Eda to join the Emperor's Coven) that she wants to keep in touch with Lilith and have her back no matter what.
    • While Eda only made Lilith think she wasn't strong enough to beat Grom herself, she certainly got an A for effort in trying to help her.
  • Luz trusts Amity enough to give her Brucy to use as her weapon against Grom, and to serve as a reminder that she'll be rooting for her.
  • Amity sings another song dedicated to her feelings for Luz: this time, it's "I Won't Say I'm in Love" complete with Puck and the Weird Sisters as backup singers.
  • Once Amity collapses against Grom, Luz keeps her word and jumps in to get her out of the arena. After it follows them outside, they perform another song, "Independent Together", and working together they manage to defeat the beast, sharing a kiss that the whole student body witnesses. The girls are met with applause and return to the dance as girlfriends, their relationship now public.
    • Before the song starts, Luz declares neither Grom nor her pain have any hold over her as she looks at Amity and tells Grom she won't let it hurt anyone she cares about.
  • The dance afterwards has not just the established dates sharing one: Barcus successfully gets one with the Cerberus sisters (with Pat being the most excited about it), and Mattholomule asks Bo to dance while making sure his date, Celine, isn't alone asking Elliot to keep her company.
  • Julia tells Eda that despite Luz not telling her her reasons for doing what she did, she'll talk to her eventually.
  • Even though Viney arrived late due to chasing down Puddles and would've understood if Emira was mad at her, Em is just glad she came and they share a dance outside.
  • Edric's boyfriend is revealed to be Hunter, who's sad he had to miss Grom and promises him they'll meet up soon to make up for it.
  • Boris, Boscha's older brother, had his own nickname for her, "Cha-Ka" which she remembers since only he calls her that.
  • Lilith, Eda and King all mess with Nicole for putting Luz in a dangerous position. Even if the Clawthorne sisters don't know what the other did, they still thought to make sure no one messes with their family.
  • Luz decides to stay at Blight Manor so she can serenade Amity, and successfully does so.
    • Before that, the girls talk with Amity admitting she now wants to join the Emperor's Coven hoping to restructure the coven system so that it's optional to join and witches can choose what's best for them. Lilith, overhearing them, says in her head she's proud of Amity for her decision.
    • After the song, Amity offers Luz to stay the night, not wanting to send her home so late. After a kiss, they fall asleep in each other's arms.
  • Puck promised someone he'd try to do good on her deathbed, a promise he takes seriously. She saw potential good in him and he wants to make her proud by showing it.

    Chapter 34: Domino Effect
  • After telling off Lilith for not interacting with Luz in some time, Amity advises her to do so to give Luz a chance to get to know her.
  • Eda learns Luz is friends with Puck along with Hooty and Amity, and while she's hesitant about the Fae, she trusts Luz enough to let them stay friends.
  • At first, Odalia blows up upon learning Amity's in a relationship with Luz and confronts her about it. But when Amity stands her ground against her and confirms she's happy, safer and stronger around the human, Odalia agrees to let it happen for the sake of her health as long as there's no secrets. Amity thanks her with a hug.
    • Unlike his wife, Alador is automatically showing full support for the girls' relationship given how much they've accomplished together.
  • The day Emira met Viney was the same day Edric met Hunter: both guys bonded over their love of "Captain Coven" and agreed to keep in touch to share comics. Regardless of his duties, Hunter wants things between them to work out just as much as Edric and promises to make it up to him.
  • Now that they're aware Luz and Amity are dating, Amelia and Cat decide to get to know the rebel just like Skara did. And when the girls start sharing a moment, the two make tracks.
Cat: Later, lovebirds! See that? Girl's [Amity] got it bad.
    Amelia: Yeah, they both do.
  • A flashback of Cat making out with Simon confirms they're an Official Couple now.
  • Boscha is shown to know Skara very well since the birthday present Boscha got her is a stuffed animal from a series of toys she knows Skara collects. In return, Skara goes to the grudgby game to show Boscha her support.
    • While Willow still doesn't like Boscha, she sees how much it means to Skara if they have a chance to make up and supports her during the game. This gets thanks out of Skara and the two share a Held Gaze for a moment before getting flustered and turning their attention back to the game.
  • Despite rarely speaking to Simon, Boscha still asked him to join the Grudgby team as a favor to her.
  • Obviously, the rest of the Human Appreciation Society come to watch the Grudgby game not just out of school spirit, but to support Simon.
  • After learning about what Luz being warned about the Fae by Eda, Puck tells her and Amity that he's not proud of the things his race has done and he does his best to try and help people. He enjoys their friendship and the last thing he wants is to give them a reason to hate him. A shame he ends up doing that anyway, even if he was trying to defend them...
  • The fact that everyone got worried when Boscha took a spike to the face is surprising but touching.
  • Luz attempts to apologize to Boscha on Puck's behalf for her injury: it goes south, but she did try to do the right thing by telling her what happened.

    Chapter 35: To Serve
  • Lilith decides to take Amity's advice and shows up at the Grudgby field to spend time with Luz. Assuring her she's there not as the head of the EC but as her aunt, Luz sends Amity off with a kiss on the cheek before going with her.
  • When Amity meets Eda and King in the marketplace after closing up shop, they decide to take her on their version of grocery shopping for dinner.
  • Boscha assumes Simon was waiting for her outside the healer's office to give pity; he was actually genuinely worried about her, voices his appreciation that she asked him to be on the team and wishes to play again in the future before offering to walk her home. She refuses, but does appreciate it.
  • With Jerbo on a trip with his family and Luz and Barcus hanging out with their girlfriends (showing that Barcus is now dating the Cerberus sisters), Viney decides to spend time with Emira, inviting her to her house, introducing her to her mom and admitting she's been trying to figure out Luz's condition and wants to help her. Emira calls her a caring, smart friend for doing this, causing Viney to blush.
  • While setting up the table for dinner, Eda thank Amity for being a good girlfriend to Luz calling her the best thing that ever happened to her daughter. In turn, Amity calls Luz the best thing that happened to her (which actually makes Eda cry) and calls Eda a good mother, making her consider having Amity watch over Luz if it comes down to it.
  • For a while, Luz and Lilith actually bond while they're spending time together through their skill in origami and Lilith opens up about her past dreams with Eda and how she wants them to get along again. Luz tries to get Lilith to consider leaving the Emperor's Coven behind to do it.
    • Though the argument between them starts to get heated, Luz admits to Lilith how she appreciates Eda supporting her and how she likes the person she's becoming all because Eda realized she wanted Luz to turn out better than her and couldn't be prouder of her for it.
  • While walking home, Boscha spots Vanz's Dealership and bumps into Katya when she leaves: the vampire girl quickly recognizes the triclops because she's friends with Boris, saying he talks about Boscha all the time.
  • Even though she gives Puck and Anu Bist a scolding each, Ms. Traveler stopped their fight to give Puck a chance to escape so she could explain to Anu Bist why Oberon wanted Puck.
  • A surprising example for villains: as Hunter starts hyperventilating from the Weird Sisters' vision, Emperor Belos removes his mask and calms him down. Belos explains these visions are the reason why he's working so hard to achieve his goals: so he can save the Boiling Isles from an impending threat so he doesn't lose anyone else like Hunter's father. He encourages Hunter to help him, revealing he knows about his relationship with Edric and that he wants Hunter to succeed him should his health fail. Knowing the trust his uncle is placing in him, Hunter agrees.
  • After what happened with Lilith, Luz returns home to find her family and her girlfriend about to have dinner and joins them, saying they matter so much to her.

    Chapter 36: Everything's Gone Wrong
  • After Belos gives Lilith the ultimatum to capture Luz and Eda, her first decision on the matter is to immediately warn Amity. The ensuing argument ruins that chance, but it's stated that despite their deal Lilith genuinely enjoyed spending more time with Amity to the point that she's actually begun to see Amity as her own daughter.
    • Upon discovering that Lilith released her from the Everlasting Oath and cutting ties with her, Amity decides to tell Luz the truth the next day, knowing their relationship will take a hit but saying at least she won't be keeping anymore secrets from her.
  • Having learned about Amity and Lilith's deal, King automatically chooses to tell Luz the truth since he doesn't want her to get hurt. When Luz won't believe him and storms out, Eda decides to hear him out.
    • During their argument, Luz reveals that Eda trusted her enough to tell her how she really found King.
  • Luz decides to crash at Willow's house for the night. Seems she does it so much that when Willow asks her dads if it's ok, Sully casually says to just leave her window open and a sleeping bag out, showing that the Parks also open their doors to Luz when she needs help.
  • Lilith arrives at the Owl House in the morning to tell Eda what she was ordered to do and to get her to take Luz to the human realm for her own safety. She's truly risking everything now to give them a head start.
  • Both Principal Bump and Ms. Traveler show themselves to be very reasonable throughout the chapter. They give Luz the benefit of the doubt after Nicole accuses her of hurting Boscha; Ms. Traveler offers to make an appointment to see Boscha; and after the Heirons do their damage, neither one refuses to let them or their accomplices escape justice for hurting Luz and Amity.
  • After chewing out Lilith for her secrets and she tells her not to blame Amity for her actions, Eda outright tells her she doesn't blame Amity for a second knowing her feelings for Luz are real and after all her suffering, she's absolutely disgusted that Lilith would use the poor girl to her advantage whether unknowingly or otherwise.
    • In a bittersweet example, Eda then kicks Lilith out telling her that if she ever comes near the girls again, she will kill her. She also renounces Lilith as her sister, saying that Luz, King, even Hooty are enough for her as family.
    • Hooty being the only one taking pity on Lilith, and is sorry that things didn't work out between her and Eda.
  • After Amity leaves Boscha to find Luz after she runs off, Skara chews out Boscha for ruining Luz and Amity's relationship. She not only stands up for them, but for herself, Willow and everyone Boscha ever tortured. When she's done, Amelia and Cat lead her away from their former friend.
  • After Amity collapses in despair and she refuses to let Edric and Emira help her, Willow steps in to comfort her, telling her that what happened to her and Luz is not her fault and offering to be there for her while Luz takes everything in. Amity then hugs Willow and asks her to help the twins take her home and she does.
    • While Amity explains everything, Emira reveals to Willow the truth about Lilith being Amity's godmother to help her understand why she's been staying at Blight Manor (a fact that would take a great deal of trust to admit.)
  • Viney, Barcus, Cat, Amelia, Skara, Bo and Simon all work to take down all the "witch hunt" posters Boscha and her cronies put up. As they do, Cat checks on Simon to see how he's dealing with learning how despicable Boscha can be.
  • After learning everything about Amity's deal with Lilith and Amity's mugging, Odalia kicks Lilith to the curb for using her Mittens the way she did and leaving her in the dark. When Lilith rebukes that at least she was there to comfort Amity, Odalia gives her a well deserved slap to remind her that she's Amity's mother and that she has come to respect Eda for actually putting Amity first.

Chapter 37: The Forest of Fear
  • Puck vents to the slitherbeast about his actions and how he though he was doing the right thing messing with Boscha, showing regret with what he did not just with her but with what happened to Piniet, Tibbles and Mattholomule too.
  • At Hexside, Viney, Barcus and the Cerberus sisters check up on Gus to see how he's holding up. He admits he understands why Luz didn't tell him about the darker side of human history and Viney brings up how there are still good humans and they need to show everyone that. This gets Gus going on telling them about his trip to Gravity Falls.
  • Alador checks on Amity after learning what happened; even though he can't relate to her situation, Amity says it's better that way. Alador assures her that what happened between her and Luz as well as Willow was because the people who were supposed to be there for her weren't and that he and Odalia will help her through this.
  • Athena lays into Nicole for her stunt as it put Boscha's future in jeopardy, regardless of her reasons why it's a problem to her. When Odalia comes for Nicole's blood, Athena puts herself between them, apologizes for what happened, and demands Nicole do the same. She's the only Heiron who has a conscience.
    • The reason Odalia came after Nicole was to give her a warning that she won't let her get away with hurting Amity unpunished. And while she appreciates Athena's apology, she reminds her she did nothing to stop her family from crossing a line.
  • Eda and King search all over Bonesborough for Luz and when the Emperor's Coven comes after Eda offering to find Luz if she comes with them, she refuses to let them get in her way.
  • While in the Forest of Fear, Luz ignores every illusion it brings up before one of Amity starts getting to her. Even the illusions of Eda and King do nothing because she knows how they really feel about her. Amity's opinion of her matters to Luz more than her own family's now: it'd be touching if it weren't a hindrance at the time.
  • As Lilith broods over her actions, Steve informs her about Eda fighting the coven guards. Seeing her current state, he tries to comfort her and when Lilith learns where Luz is, she sends Steve to tell Eda and he tells her to be careful.
    • The fact that Lilith sent her palisman to find Luz and wasted no time hurrying to the Forest of Fear to help her has merit.
  • Jerbo spent a good portion of his family ski trip on guard because of Barcus' oracle-potion saying he will have to prevent a death. Turns out it wasn't one of his family members he had to save; it was Puck, who he rescues from the Greater Basilisk in the nick of time.
  • Lilith manages to get Luz out of the Forest of Fear despite its mist making Luz attack her thinking she was the Inner Demon. The second they're out, Lilith casts a spell to free Luz of its effects.
    • Before Lilith can get Luz back to Eda, the Golden Guard arrives to capture Luz who refuses to go with either of them or anyone else from the Emperor's Coven. Realizing she's right, Lilith officially defects from the coven and declares that she'll bring her niece to the human realm herself so Belos will never have her.
    • Even when the Golden Guard reveals the truth about Lilith cursing Eda to further undermine Luz's trust in her, she still fights him to protect her, nearly declaring that she's Eda's child before being shot dead. Lilith uses her final breath to apologize to Luz, who despite her anger, is devastated by what happened proving she does still care about her aunt.
  • The second Eda learns Luz was captured, she storms the castle to get her back. Just like her sister, she takes on the Golden Guard even though she's risking letting the curse take over. Eda dismisses the Golden Guard's statements about the Emperor helping the Clawthornes fulfill their destinies, saying Luz's destiny is hers alone to decide and reaffirming that she is her family. Right before Eda turns into the Owl Beast, she gives Luz a sad smile and apologizes for not being a better mother.
  • After killing the Greater Basilisk, Puck decides to atone for his mistakes and heads to the Owl House to talk to Luz.

    Chapter 38: The Reveal
  • While waiting for Emperor Belos and Eda to arrive, Luz and the Golden Guard engage in a conversation, during which Hunter makes it clear he regrets killing Lilith while Luz admits she didn't want her aunt to die regardless of her actions.
  • Surprisingly, Belos actually has a few moments of humanity:
    • As atrocious as he is, even he didn't approve of Lilith cursing Eda and using Amity the way she did and apologizes to Luz and Eda for her actions.
    • Belos reveals his humanity to Luz, along with Eda and Hunter, along with the truth about her condition. He sympathizes with her, offers to give her a good future if he joins his cause, training to master her cambion form, curing Eda and even access to her infant memories of her birth mother and how she died.
      • Despite all this, Luz refuses all of it, remembering what Eda taught her about the coven system and wanting to find out the truth about her mother's death for herself.
  • Angry as Eda was at Lilith, the second she learns her sister was killed, she immediately starts crying at having lost her.
  • Along with Luz's friends, Boscha is shocked to hear about Luz and Eda being sentenced to execution. She firmly states that she never wanted this to happen even if she wanted revenge, taking responsibility for what she's done and how listening to Nicole ruined any chance she had of winning her friends back.
  • After Belos sentences Luz and Eda to petrification, the distressed Hunter prepares to lay into his uncle for declaring an execution despite promising him they'd help Luz. There was no way Hunter was going to stay quiet after hearing he was going to lose his first real friend after he basically betrayed her.
  • Refusing to let Eda and Luz suffer, Raine decides to take action and contacts Katya to ask for her help, which she doesn't hesitate to offer.
  • As it turns out, Vanz Ator was the pale fellow who freed Anu Bist years ago. The vampire honestly couldn't think of anything he wanted that he couldn't work to earn himself and since his business was giving people what they needed, he asked Bist what he wanted and when he said "his freedom", Vanz used his first and only wish to give the jackal just that.
    • When Anu Bist asked what made Vanz so sure he wouldn't cause disaster if he was freed, Vanz simply says he's a good judge of character.
    • During his second flashback, Vanz is showing interest in Katya's fanfiction. If you've been waiting to see if he's a good father, this is what you waited for.
    • Apparently, Anu Bist asked Vanz to give Luz the bracelet so she could subconsciously learn to control her powers.
    • In the present, Vanz is revealed to have kept Anu Bist's lamp and knowing his friend is about to put himself at risk for his student, he says he hopes the jackal knows what he's doing.
  • Anu Bist attempts to recruit Ms. Traveler to help him free the Clawthornes, but she refuses and explains why, which he accepts, and she tells him to ask Puck for help.
    • Ms. Traveler was once known as Mary Poppins, and while she had good intentions, her attempts to help kids took away their chance to learn from their mistakes and grow into better people. She took her current job hoping to make amends with her past and chooses not to intervene in the lives of mortals since she is (implied to be) too powerful to take action herself. It's also mentioned that she helped Anu Bist grow into a better person as well.
  • King and Puck agree to team up and help Luz and Eda. Even when Puck's shadow tries to stop him, Puck simply banishes it since he intends to uphold his promise to be better. He then leaves to go recruit some extra help, AKA...
    • ...Amity, who he calms down as she's having a breakdown over losing Luz and Eda after they've done so much for her. Puck decides to tell her the truth about his past as Peter Pan, about how he changed when he met Wendy Darling, and about how he promised her on her deathbed that he would become the force of good she saw in him. Puck tells Amity she's stronger than she believes and reminding her that she has her own story to see through.
    • Before the two leave Blight Manor, Puck has Amity promise him that no matter what, she'll keep moving forward.
    • With the reveal of Puck being Peter, you don't need him to explain why he calls Amity "Pixie Dust": you automatically know it's because she reminds him of Tinker Bell.
  • Odalia showing concern over Amity, both when she became catatonic after seeing the broadcast and when she seems to have run away.
  • Steve's still looking over the Blights for Lilith, so he rats out Kikimora to Belos for going after Amity over her connection to Puck.
  • Someone begins reviving Lilith declaring she's still needed in the world of the living.
  • Since King knows Eda never had anything towards Amity and she's suffered a lot, he forgives her and accepts her help in the rescue mission.
  • Anu Bist joins the group at the Owl House and suggests Lilith be recruited since she's made mistakes just like the rest of them and sends Hooty to go find her.
    • In a sense, Anu Bist's statement about his mistakes implies a part of him feels guilty about lying to Luz about the bracelet. Helping to rescue her is his way of making things right to his student.

     Chapter 39: Understanding Lilith
  • Things open on the same flashback of Lilith using the pain-sharing spell to split the pain of Eda's skidded knee as kids. Only difference is that this time, Eda hugs her sister in gratitude.
  • When Lilith learned she had to duel Eda as teenagers, Odalia comforts her and offered a solution. Too bad that solution was cursing Eda for a day...
  • After Eda refuses to let Belos cure her curse, she told Lilith about why she forfeited the duel and that she did it because believed Lilith deserved having her dream.
  • The human Lilith was charged to look over was Stanford Pines, who she developed a Secret Relationship with. Although it ended after Ford discovered Belos' true colors, he asked Lilith to come with him. This was the same man who never made time for personal relationships, and yet he found love and wanted her by his side.
    • Some of the dates between them include a private dinner (in the conformatorium with Warden Wrath standing sentry) and walks on the beach.
  • The second Lilith realizes the Inner Demon's playing her, she shuts him up and declares that even though she knows her family won't forgive her, she'll still try to make things right with them before blasting the little parasite out of her mind.
  • Upon waking up in Dr. Bride's office, Lilith finds Amity holding her hand, worried sick that Hooty found her near dead with a hole in her stomach. Like Luz and Eda, Amity was still angry with Lilith but the idea that she'd die scared her. Lilith takes the chance to apologize to her goddaughter for her actions.
  • While King makes it clear he doesn't trust Lilith, he says saving Luz and Eda takes top priority, so he'll work together with her to make that happen.
  • With the rescue party complete, they set off. Before they go, Dr. Bride gives Lilith an envelope containing Luz's test results and asks that she give them to her.

    Chapter 40: The Rescue
  • As Luz and Eda are taken to the conformatorium, Eda tells her daughter that she was only sending her away because of Belos coming after her and she thought Luz would've been better off without her. Luz, however, tells Eda she can't imagine her life without her, having been hoping Eda would live to see her wedding day, her having children of her own and seeing her dream come true. Luz says she's proud to be Eda's daughter, and Eda takes pride in having raised a good kid before telling her she was just scared of losing her.
  • As Willow, Gus and Viney race to the conformatorium, the girls ask Barcus, Skara, Bo, Amelia, Cat, and the Shadowy Secret Expozers to rendezvous with them there. When Gus proposes they fight to free Luz and Eda saying it's what Luz would've wanted, Willow reminds him their safety is what Luz would've prioritized and says there's more than one way to help.
  • Apparently, the coven guards don't discriminate on citizens, which includes adults with dwarfism.
  • There's the fact that Warden Wrath and Amity apologize to each other when they have to fight. Remember, this stems from the fact that he has her babysit Braxas so they have nothing against each other; they just have goals they need to accomplish.
  • While Amity tries to free Luz and Eda from their cages, Luz tells her to get out, not wanting her to get caught and ruin her future. This is the final straw for Amity, who curses out the Emperor's Coven for doing this to them, breaks down crying for letting things between them blow up and calls herself a horrible girlfriend. Luz (who didn't want the Blight to see her half-transformed) gets up and wipes away her tears. Luz didn't want what was looking like her final moments with Amity to be watching her cry.
    • The two proceed to share one last kiss before the platform begins raising the Clawthornes' cages up: Luz shoves Amity off and although she's crying, she thanks her for being her girlfriend.
  • Near the end of her Badass Boast, Luz proudly declares to the Isles for everyone to hear that she'd the daughter of both Eda and the late Camila Noceda. She won't deny her roots or her upbringing.
  • As Willow and Gus hijack the news broadcast and begin protesting the petrification ceremony, they're joined by several students, Principal Bump and soon the entire crowd is demanding the Clawthornes be set free. Luz is genuinely shocked that so many people actually do support her and her family; as Gus tells everyone, she is a witch to them.
  • Even when face-to-mask with Belos, Amity's resolve to free Luz and her family never wavers: she understands she's risking everything including going home to her family, but she won't let Belos use Luz for his plans.
  • While hearing the crowd Webstor finally stands up for himself, refusing to go through with petrifying the Clawthornes.
  • In a moment overlapping with Tear Jerker, Phil saves Amity from a coven scout, briefly becomes sentient, gives a thumbs-up to her and calls her and Luz his "moms" all while he's being petrified protecting Eda, King and Lilith.
  • Doubling as Awesome, Raine leading the Bards Against the Throne to help Amity free the Clawthoenes.
  • Since Amity can no longer return home for helping the Clawthornes, Luz and Eda allow her to stay at the Owl House for the time being. They know she just sacrificed everything for them and that what she did proves she cares about Luz, so this is the least they can do.
  • Lilith apologizes to Luz, Eda and Amity for everything she did to them before getting cut off when the former two tackle into a hug, shedding tears of relief that she's alive. Eda allows her to stay with them as well, wanting to build up the chance to truly forgive her.
  • Dr. Bride saying in her letter to Luz that she'll be researching cambions to help her learn how to control her alternate form and telling her she'll have her own bile sac soon, meaning Luz's dream of being a witch is now possible.
  • Despite not getting back together with Amity, Luz assures her that no matter what happens next they'll have each other's backs. The chapter ends with the two holding each other's hands as they look out the window.

    Epilogue
  • Mabel assures Dipper that even though he can't call Luz, she believes she's safe.
  • At the party Mabel holds celebrating Gideon's defeat, Vee is shown to be one of the guests. She really won't be a stranger.
  • Belos actually apologizes to Hunter for lying about not sparing Eda, since he knows he's not taking his attempt on Lilith's life well.
  • After what Boscha's been through, she ends up finding a new friend: Tom Lucitor who, despite living on the streets, is quick to comfort her and act as her venting system.
  • Anu Bist managed to escape from the Emperor's castle and goes straight to Vanz Ator, who helps him to his lamp so he can recover.
