Go To

Funny moments in X-Men: Evolution.

  • "Rogue Recruit": After Nightcrawler is knocked out by Rogue's ability, Kitty is freaking out. "What would Wolverine do? I mean, besides dice up like half the landscape."
  • "Walk on the Wild Side", giving us the following in Lance's jeep (which was "borrowed" by Boom-Boom):
Rogue: Wish we coulda found a better place to change.
Tabitha: Relax! Nobody'll believe that toll-booth guy!
    • If you listen closely when Magma walks into her first class a background character can be heard saying: "You and Anne, huh? Nice!"
    • First Tabitha breaks the bathroom door to borrow mouthwash and walks in on Todd's monthly shower. Later she breaks the newly-fixed door and, again, walks in on Todd. We don't see what he's doing, but she says that he doesn't have to get up. He then tells her he's buying her her own mouthwash.
    • Jean's rant on Scott at the beginning. Afterwards she angrily closes the door on him in the hallway. Seconds later Amara says "the nerve!" and closes her door too.
    • Duncan and Scott's bonding moment over Jean's sudden surge in feminism.
Duncan to Scott: "Glad she took your keys."
  • Wolverine's line in response to Nightcrawler in Speed and Spyke.
"ELF! [sighs] How many times do I gotta tell ya? Ask and it'll get passed to ya."
  • Professor X actually makes a cripple joke at his own expense in "The X-Impulse" after lecturing Jean on how all obstacles can be overcome.
Professor X: [finding himself at the top of a flight of stairs] Though, some obstacles are more irritating than others.
  • The end of "X-treme Measures". Professor Xavier is sitting in the back of his car, and tells Logan he's ready to head back to the mansion. Problem is, Logan gave the keys to Kitty, the girl with a permit and the habit of phasing through traffic hazards...
    • As Kitty drives off, you can see the professor pressed up against the window in abject terror. This is the guy who faced down Apocalypse without flinching.
    • What makes it better is that Logan volunteered to take Kitty practice driving because Scott and Jean spent the whole episode dodging her (for good reason) to get out of it and Logan jumped at the chance of Xavier's offer for a dangerous mission. This is his form of payback.
Logan (to Kitty during the lesson): Wait for the gate! WAIT FOR THE GATE!
  • From "Mainstream": Toad dressed up as Quicksilver. That is all.
Toad: Look at me! I'm Pietro! I'm Pietro! Oh, wait, hold on! I gotta go to the moon! (Strikes a pose) Ok, I'm back!
  • At the end of "Rogue Recruit", Shadowcat calls Nightcrawler a "fuzzy elf." Cut to Cyclops mouthing to Nightcrawler in disbelief: "Fuzzy elf?"
  • Kurt steering the Blackbird with his feet, especially everyone's reaction to it
  • From "Grim Reminder", Logan had gone off the rails because of his past. While Kitty had earlier snuck aboard the X-Jet without knowing he was going to take it; she just wanted to have some privacy. Kurt also bamfs himself there, and when Logan finds them, he flies into a rage before locking them outside the cockpit to protect them from himself. Kurt soon freaks over the crazy man flying the plane. Kitty then suggests teleporting out, which leads to this.
Kurt: Yeah, right. Picture this: Bumpity-bumpity-bumpity-bumpity-SPLAT! Too high up and way too fast.
  • In "Sins of the Son", Nightcrawler and Shadowcat get sick at the same time. His case is worse than hers because, every time he sneezes, he teleports. And so, with Kitty holding on to him, he starts sneezing in his sleep and bamfing them just about everywhere (even into a classroom during class time - with both still in their PJs!). When Kurt wakes up, feeling healed from his condition, all he sees is Kitty covered in mud and branches... and glaring angrily at him.
  • The whole of Kurt & Toad's fight in "Strategy X" (the first episode). The witty repartee was to die for.
Kurt: As you say in America, "neener, neener, neener!"
Toad: I'm gonna rip that pointy tail off, ya fuzzy gecko!
  • Kurt, the Bavarian wonder, commenting on Forge's outdated slang ("The Middleverse").
Kurt: I swear, that homie's lingo is so whack.
    • Made even more hilarious because this Forge looks exactly like Fez from That '70s Show.
    • On the same episode, seeing Rogue hold the virtual world portal gun at the end of a long stick. It's hilariously adorable watching Rogue refusing to touch something because of what it might do to her.
    • Kurt is so disappointed when Forge informs him the dimension they are trapped in does not extend to the girls locker room.
    • Wondering what to do with the device, Scott suggest blasting it. Kitty suggests using her powers to just quietly shut it down. Scott and Evan stare blankly at her.
Kitty: Or not. What is it with guys and high explosives?
  • Kurt messing with his image inducer in "Adrift". He tried to look buff to impress Kitty and it fritzed on him. His next attempt ended up with the hologram giving him the Most Common Super Power. Even Xavier found it hilarious, as it was Xavier's own doing. Kurt broke the inducer after messing with it too much, then Xavier fixed it and re-programmed it to make Kurt look like a girl as a little joke. Stupid sexy girl-Nightcrawler.
  • Kurt and Kitty imitate Scott and Jean, daytime-TV style:
Kurt: Jean, darling, please accept this croissant as a symbol of my love!
Kitty: Oh, Scott, you have such a way with pastry!
    • The scene is referenced in a later episode. Kitty says "You have such a way with pastry!" while talking on the phone, probably relating the hilarious story to the person on the other end. It's a little easy to miss, but the reference is funny.
  • Pretty much everything the Brotherhood does is golden, but an especially funny moment happened in "No Good Deed". Their plan was to set up a train derailment without anyone knowing and then stop it, so they could come off as the heroes. However, they failed to take into account one teeny little detail.
Toad: Never fear, people, the Brotherhood has arrived. We'll stop that runaway train.
Bystander: Yeah, but what about the other train?
    Pietro: Uh... What other train?
Bystander: Radio says one's coming the other way carrying eight tankers of gasoline.
    • And as they contemplate whether they should try to stop the oncoming train...
Pietro: (speeds away) See you outside the blast zone!
    • There's also the moment earlier in the episode where Kelly's running for mayor of Bayville and his campaign ad about how mutants are a menace who need to be stopped is just barely interrupted at the end by a special news broadcast about the Brotherhood's heroism in getting everyone off the train.
  • Possibly the most triumphant crowning moment of funny for this show: A farmer is watching a news report on mutants on TV. His reaction?
    Farmer: What's a mutant?
    • This almost qualifies as a Mythology Gag. When creating X-Men, Stan Lee originally wanted to call it The Mutants but his boss told him "No one know what a mutant is!"
  • In one episode, while Gambit was supposed to be finding the Big Bad and was locking up one of the guards, he paused to finish the guard's game of Solitaire.
    • Gambit also charging a pane of glass to blow... by drawing a smiley face on it.
  • In "Joyride", Lance has joined the X-Men. Kitty is sneaking a midnight snack, and phases under the table when she hears someone coming. The New Mutants go by. Seconds later, Lance sneaks after them... and sees Kitty's disembodied head on the table, on a plate, with an apple in her mouth. Lance faints.
    • Earlier in the episode, when doing a lifesaving exercise in the pool, Lance is supposed to be saving Rogue. But he decides to save Kitty instead - first throwing a life ring that knocks Rogue in the head and then holding back Cannonball so he can give Kitty a Bridal Carry. An enraged Rogue pushes them both back into the pool.
  • Another New Recruits/Mutants one, When Iceman, Cannonball, Berserker, & Jubilee sneak into the Danger room for kicks they refuse to let Multiple Tag along. After Jubilee gets tired of getting her Ass kicked by the machines & tries to leave, the door shuts up & locks them in. Cue several more robots entering the room - all controlled by Multiple. They don't take it well.
Jamie: So, still think it was cake?
    Bobby: You did this?
    Ray: Get him!
Jamie: (Face drops) Uh oh! (Runs off screaming, the others try to run but are in too much pain)
    Jubilee: We'll get 'im tomorrow.
  • While fleeing military choppers, Kurt and Kitty teleport into one of them.
Kurt: Hi, I'm Nightcrawler! This is Shadowcat!
Kitty: (phases into the chopper's controls) And this is your weapons system!
    Both: Bye! (teleport out)
    • Bonus points if one knows anything about attack helicopters; The weapons system control is on the other side of the cockpit!
  • During the montage in "On Angel's Wings" of Scott and Rogue searching for the angel one of the shots is of a guy with a "ANGELS ARE AMONG US" sign chasing them down the street.
  • In "Mindbender", Wolverine refuses to fight a mind-controlled Kitty. She kicks him in the shins before walking through him. Cue Wolverine hopping in pain.
Wolverine: (wincing in pain) That's why... I don't like playin' nice!
    • After the mind control wears off...
Kitty: Whoa, what's going on? How did we get here?
Wolverine: (sitting on a crate rubbing his shin) Yeah, sure, now you're all better...
  • In "The Hex Factor" Kitty's muffins bounce. Or, depending on the batch, break floors.
    Mystique: Boys? Guess who's back?
Toad: Hey! Is it really you?
Mystique: (hauls him up by his T-shirt and throws him into the next room)
    Toad: (offscreen) Yep, it's you.
    • Boom-Boom calling Mystique Mystic and lighting up a mini-explosive, which Pietro grabs of her and chucks at Blob, who gives it to Toad and chucks him into the next room. It explodes and Toad ... shrieks. Like a girl. a few seconds later he walks back in with his hair sticking straight up on his head.
    • All four of the Brotherhood boys staring out from behind the couch with O.O expressions.
    • Boom-Boom blowing up Mystique's room.
    • Quicksilver pretending to be a shop assistant whilst fighting Kurt.
  • From the otherwise serious "Day of Reckoning, Part 2", Rogue being so distracted by Gambit's sexy that she fails to realize he's given her a card that's about to blow.
    • When the mansion is under Defcon 4, Jubilee runs into the hall and sees the windows all closed up.
"All right, whose fault is this!"
  • While the majority of "The Toad, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" counts, Kurt meeting Amanda's parents and Toad interrupting to steal Kurt's image inducer is a great highlight.
    Amanda: Kurt! You're early!
Kurt: (face goes from excitement to looking dejected) Okay, I'll leave...
  • In "Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom", Toad tries to break into Mystique's room by throwing himself at the door, which causes him to bounce off of it and fall down the stairs leading up to it. Blob declares "He's at it again!" and catches Toad as he's falling down from another failed attempt, and then this happens:
Toad: That door's gotta be made out of adamantium or something.
Blob: Hey, knock it off, Toad! Not that I like you or nothing, but I don't wanna see you get hurt.
    • From the beginning of the episode, there's the X-Men team building exercise, with Kurt's rescue being placed in the hands of Boom-Boom. ("You place my life in the hands of a maniac?!") It doesn't get off to a great start when she's already distracted listening to music.
Boom-Boom: LOOK OUT BELOW! BOOM-BOOM'S BOMBIN' IN!
    Kurt: I'm going to die...
  • In "SpykeCam", Rogue catches Evan spying on her. Watch here and Share the Male Pain.
    • She touches Kitty to get some of her dancing skills - and promptly speaks in Valley Girl slang. Against her will.
    • When she absorbs Sabertooth's powers, her hair grows much longer and gets pointy fangs, but her arms and legs are also covered in fur. Her horrified reaction is priceless.
Rogue: I just shaved my legs last night!
  • In "Survival of the Fittest", the Brotherhood are racing the X-Men to the top of the mountain. Toad is hoping up ahead, calling the other guys to hurry up. Scene cuts to Avalanche and Quicksilver tied behind The Blob as he climbs.
Quicksilver: Man, if he slips and falls, we are history! Death by blubber bomb!
  • Magneto gets his first sight of the XM Velocity helijet in "The Cauldron, Part 2". He tries to affect it twice to no avail. "No metal", he says, staring at Xavier, who shrugs like a cheeky schoolboy.
    • Toad's reaction to finding that out is good too.
Wolverine: This crate's built without an ounce of metal.
Toad: None? That means we're flying in what, cheap plastic?! I need an airsick bag!
  • Storm punching out Mystique in "The Cauldron, Part 1", especially due to the genuinely terrified expression on Mystique's face when she sees Storm coming at her in the fog. Also doubles as a Moment of Awesome for Storm.
  • While Kitty is rushing for a ride to school, she phases through Beast in the corridor... Then notices she's no longer holding her toothbrush. She retrieves it from him and he hiccups a couple of bubbles.
  • Early in "Under Lock and Key", the X-Men (and Boom-Boom) are playing baseball with no powers. Take a guess how long it lasts.
    • What follows is a montage of the various players using their powers to hilarious and often over the top responses. Among them...
      • Kitty phases through Multiple, causing him to slip and multiply once he hits the ground.
      • Jean halts a baseball before smacking it away.
      • Cannonball cannonballs into Third.
      • Amara hurls balls so fast they are set on fire, causing Scott to dodge out of the way and holes to be burned in Berserker's bat and the fence behind them.
      • Sunspot charges up to hit a home run, leading Scott to blow up the path leaving to First Base, tripping Sunspot.
      • Kurt teleports into the air to catch Sunspot's home run, then teleports to home base as Kitty is stealing all the bases. Kitty phases into the ground and comes out under Home, which Kurt did not step on.
    Scott: SAFE!
    • In the same episode, the giant spider burrows under London. Pyro's reaction?
    Pyro: It's gone down under!
    • Also in the same episode, the epic shot of the original five X-Men is punctuated by this:
Iceman: Don't worry, I've got your back.
Beast: You don't have my back. You don't have a clue.
  • In "Power Surge", Scott gets knocked off of a balcony and falls into a pool. Owner of said pool, Duncan, comes out to see what the racket is about.
Duncan: Summers?! What the heck are you doing?!
    Scott: Checking your chlorine level!
  • A minor moment from "X-23:" When X-23 is investigating some perfume belonging to one of the girls. She takes one sniff of the perfume and makes a perfect "gag" sound, and the expression on her face is priceless.
    • Bobby's impression of Logan is spot on, claws and all.
Iceman: There's no off-switch in the real world, bub.
  • When X-23 returns in the episode "Target X", she's quick to complain about Logan's "slow" Healing Factor. He's quick to point out there's a fairly good reason for it.
X-23: (totally serious) You should have healed by now.
Logan: (just a little offended) Give me a break kid, I started out the morning by falling out of an airplane.
  • In the Season 3 premiere, Toad sneaks into the Brotherhood's house to fetch some clothes for them to change into. Lance goes through the bag and discovers he only took clothes for Wanda. He also pulls out a nightdress, and gets an embarrassed smack from her.
    • Wanda aka Scarlet Witch - an angry Lady of Black Magic with a hatred of nearly everything and everyone - owns a sexy nightdress that's of course in red like her costume. It's doubly funny if you consider that the only time she could have picked up such a garment was when they were in the mall in "The Hex Factor". Whether she got it before or after her Curb-Stomp Battle with the X-Men is anyone's guess.
  • During "The Toad The Witch And The Wardrobe", Toad steals Kurt's hologram watch to disguise himself as he pursues Wanda. She sees through his first disguise because of his messed up teeth and his second disguise because he immediately starts hopping like a toad around her. Both times get him blasted.
  • During the first part of the series finale, Kitty tries to persuade Lance to get the Brotherhood to stop Apocalypse after he's brainwashed Storm, Xavier, Mystique and Magneto, in his endgame to turn humanity into mutants. Lance essentially says, "Not my problem. Maybe Apoc's on to something with the 'turn-everybody-to-mutants' thing". Kitty protests that he hasn't even gone to ask the others. So he does:
Lance (to the Brotherhood): Hey, you guys feel like taking on Magneto?
(cut to Quicksilver lazing about, while Toad inks Blob's face while he's asleep)
  • In "Turn of the Rogue", Wolverine and Storm end up coming to the kids' rescue when they're lost in a blizzard during a school field trip, with Storm using her powers to clear away snow. When Logan complains that she isn't clearing the snow fast enough, Storm's annoyed reaction is so utterly random that it's hilarious (particularly with Ororo's characteristically serious demeanor).
Storm: I'm a weather witch, not a snowplow!
