    Volume 19 (Chapters 159 - 167)

Chapter 159

  • After Rentarou did some pre-date investigating, he plans on going home to exercise and do some counter-terrorist image training.
  • The "If you hate the heat you'd agree festivals are better in spring shrine" is holding the "Festivals are better in spring shrine festival".
  • Rentarou encounters an Elegant Gothic Lolita who calls everyone a daft sod, has rolled-up sleeves, and is cooking yakisoba. He finds her appearance very unusual.
  • When Rentarou gets a ZING!! with the girl, the girl's grandmother handles his order with a friendly expression... while calling him a daft sod.
  • During the girl's lunch break, Rentarou asks if he can eat with her. The girl blushes and does a slight nod while saying, "Y... You wot? Ya daft sod..."
Rentarou: Is that a yes or a no?!
  • The girl, named Matsuri Dei, is a first year junior high student at Rentarou's school. She wears a gothic lolita outfit because her parents made it for her. Matsuri thinks it's like an English version of a happi, a coat worn during festivals.
Rentarou: (thinking) No, it really isn't.
    • She also says the bonnet on her head is like an English ninja headband because of the fluttery ribbons.
Rentarou: (thinking) The whole of England is going to be at our throats.
  • Matsuri calls Rentarou a "berk"* when he asks her if they can walk around the festival together, because she thinks he's just using the festival as an excuse to hit on girls instead of enjoying the festival itself, something that deeply offends her. When she runs away, Rentarou agrees that she's right, so he decides to visit every stall in the festival. By the time he's visited about 30, Rentarou's head and arms are loaded with souvenirs and he has a Balloon Belly from all the food he's eaten.

Chapter 160

  • For a change, the chapter doesn't start with Rentarou introducing Matsuri to the rest of his family; instead, it begins with Matsuri and Chiyo taking a cooking class together. Akogare and Manesu are there too, cheering Chiyo on, both still dressed just like her.
  • Matsuri gets offended at the idea that Chiyo's yakisoba might be better than hers, so she challenges her to a contest for the other classmates to vote between them. One person gives far too detailed descriptions of each dish's taste, prompting someone to ask if they snuck in from a cooking manga.
  • Once Rentarou finally does introduce Matsuri to the family, Hahari is naturally far too excited over her western lolita dress.
  • Mimimi, Hakari, and Rin all assume Matsuri must be a proper refined lady based on her dress. This assumption is dashed the moment she opens her mouth.
  • Matsuri's insistence that her outfit is like a happi coat prompts Himeka to say, "So abnormal...!"
  • When Karane tries to insist that Matsuri's lolita dress is nothing like a Japanese happi, Rentarou convinces her that the intention of the creator counts more than anything - just like how 100 Girlfriends is intended as a romantic comedy that seems more like a gag manga. Rentarou and Karane proceed to cheerfully kiss each other.
I hope you appreciate how much harder this manga is makin' things for other romcoms.
  • Kishika questions if Matsuri's outfit really passes for a school uniform, even though Kishika herself looks like she's wearing something out of 17th-century Europe. Hahari admits that she personally gave permission for Matsuri to wear a gothic lolita dress done up like the middle school uniform because it looked cute.
  • After Eira reveals she's half-Japanese too because her father is Brazilian, Matsuri assumes Eira's outfit, a midriff-baring shirt, is a Brazilian happi. Naddy in turn claims she's wearing a 'Murrican happi coat, which Kurumi immediately shoots down.
  • Naddy declares herself, Matsuri, and Eira the "Half 'n' Happi" trio, even though none of them are actually wearing a happi, and Naddy is full-blooded Japanese. The three of them make a pose, with Matsuri and Naddy looking proud and Eira looking a bit embarrassed.
  • Naturally, being a festival-loving girl, Matsuri brought plenty of festival toys for everyone.
    • Kusuri and Momiji both get yo-yo water balloons to play with, though Momiji spends more time squeezing them than playing with them. Kusuri is slapping the yo-yo balloons so hard that Iku gulps while watching her.
    • Matsuri's playing with a yo-yo water balloon herself, and as fitting a cat, Tama is batting at the balloon.
    • To help hide her face, Meme gets a Pentarou mask. Momoha thinks Meme is a 7-head-tall, big booby Pentarou.
    • Ahko and Suu both get candied fruit - Ahko loves the cuteness of candied strawberries, while Suu loves the 0-shaped candied pineapple. Mei notes that Matsuri has a large supply of festival items on her, while Karane asks who keeps candied fruit in their pockets.
  • When Matsuri offers to make everyone yakisoba, Kurumi has stars in her eyes and calls Matsuri nice. Mai says, "She sure is," with a sweat drop.
  • Yamame is cowering behind Rin while Matsuri is making the yakisoba because of the grill's fire. Kurumi is drooling, crying Tears of Joy, and still has starry eyes as she watches Matsuri.
  • Matsuri finds that making so much food for 27 people is too much even for her to handle. Fortunately, Chiyo comes in to lend a hand, and the two of them are able to overcome their differences and make food for everyone.
  • Himeka is holding her chopsticks upside down, something she mentioned back in her debut chapter.
  • Meme is still wearing the Pentarou mask while everyone is eating the yakisoba.
  • Kurumi loves the yakisoba so much that she's vibrating.
  • Both Chiyo and Matsuri get yakisoba sauce on them after eating so much - instead of wiping it off regularly, Hahari brings Rentarou over and pushes him right into Chiyo so he can kiss it off her. When Hahari claims this is a special thing they do to clean up, Rentarou downplays it and says he only does it sometimes.
  • Matsuri tells Chiyo she always assumed the latter was as straight-laced as they come, before asking what kind of stuff does she do after class. Chiyo is absolutely humiliated, but she can't deny how often that happens.
  • Even so, Matsuri is more than willing to give it a try herself. As a result, her first kiss ends up tasting like yakisoba.

Chapter 161

  • The chapter begins with Nano asking Mimimi if she wants to attend the cultural festival at their old junior high school with her. Mimimi says she can hardly fault Nano for desiring to walk with someone as beautiful as her.
Nano: That is not what I said.
  • Even though Nano graduated from the school less than a year ago, she says it feels like it was much longer. Such is the gravity of 161 chapters.
  • During a Room Escape Game, Nano notes that the wall is made of chalkboard and suggests breaking through it would be the most efficient way to escape.
Mimimi: There is truly no beauty in that solution.
  • Mimimi poses and tells a boy taking pictures of the festival that he can take as many pictures of her as he likes. The boy himself is surprised by Mimimi's request and sweats.
  • Nano is about to ask a fortune teller what the scientific basis of fortune telling is before Mimimi stops her.
    • The fortune teller tells the girls, "The love you share with the person you really, really, really, really, really love will be the happiest love in the whole world...!" Nano and Mimimi get a love throb and think, "Spot on," while the fortune teller has a small sweat drop.
  • Nano is dominating a game of concentration judging by the large stack of cards she has, while her opponent is clearly frustrated.
  • Some of the participants in the school's beauty contest have blatantly Punny Names, like Shainingu (shining) Kagayakiko and Byuutei Womanko (beauty woman).
  • Nano tries to do her best during the beauty contest so she won't trample on Mimimi's feelings, but all she does during her segment is make a V-Sign, a stark contrast to the stylish poses Mimimi made. Despite this, she still gets the same amount of praise as Mimimi.
  • After Mimimi and Nano tie for first place in the beauty contest, the former says the best way they can push their beauty to greater heights would be to work together as friends and holds out her hand to Nano. Nano agrees, shakes her hand, and smiles, causing the two of them to unleash a blinding flash of light. This makes everyone in the audience cover their eyes in pain like "countless Colonel Muskas."
    • Doubles as a Brick Joke to chapter 76, where Yaku mistakenly identifies Nano as the girl who wishes to be most beautiful, only for Mimimi to quip that were Nano to become more beautiful she would become literally blinding, naturally.

Chapter 162

  • The chapter begins with Rentarou and Ahko playing with Jenga blocks for their couples channel on BooTube. Ahko knocks the tower down on the first try. Twice.
  • After the second attempt, Rentarou suggests doing something. Ahko decides to do a song and dance she recently saw. It just happens to be the anime's opening! (The dance is this one from Hakari and Karane's VAs.)
    Ahko: I, I, I ♪ I really love you ♪ I really love you ♪
Rentarou: (thinking while hnghing) She's soo cuuuuuuute!
    • While Ahko is showing her song and dance to Rentarou, beneath the panel is © Kedarui Aashii, 2024 (JASRAC in the original).
    • Rentarou has a love throb on his face the whole time he's dancing with Ahko because of how cute she is.
  • Next, Ahko says she's going to prank Rentarou; Rentarou points out it won't be much of a prank if she tells him beforehand. While waiting for Ahko, Rentarou looks up "how to erase last minute of memory" on Googlo.
    • Ahko shows up as a Bedsheet Ghost and sticks her tongue out while saying, "Bleh." She's so cute that Rentarou gets a love throb instead of being surprised. She tries again by dressing up as a lion with Cute Little Fangs and saying, "Rawr." Rentarou still gets a love throb.
Rentarou: Ahko, I'm... so sorry... You did everything right, your cuteness is simply overpowering my surprise...
  • After Ahko turns her phone's camera off, she says it's time for some serious making out, even though she kissed Rentarou after each of their activities. Ahko even claims she was holding back for the camera.
  • In the end, Rentarou and Ahko decide to keep their video private, although they do show it to the rest of Rentarou's Family. However, it turns out Ahko didn't actually turn off her phone's camera, meaning her make out session with Rentarou was recorded, too. Their kissing was so intense that most of the girls are shocked and blushing heavily. This causes them to shout, "My turn!" and start kissing Rentarou. The kissing is so rapid that most of the "smooch" sound effects are overlapping with each other.
Narration: Good thing they didn't post this video, at least— thought Rentarou, face white as a sheet.

Chapter 163

  • The chapter begins with Rin reading a news report that due to an airplane cargo door malfunction, a hundred gothic and/or lolita headdresses are falling from the sky.
Karane: Stupid stuff keeps happenin' in this town.
Himeka: (with a sparkling aura) What an abnormal place...!
  • Chiyo says they're asking people to return the ones they find. Momoha has yen coins in her eyes and asks if they can sell them.
  • Hahari immediately takes action and calls all the girls inside from the rooftop for an emergency. That emergency, as it turns out, is to quickly dress all of them up in lolita outfits so they won't have to wear headdresses with their normal clothes.
  • Karane and Hakari are the first two to try and grab a falling headdress, and they both end up fighting over the same one. As they quarrel, it ends up bouncing off Hakari's chest and landing right on Karane's head. Karane tries as hard as she can to consider this her win, while another one lands on Hakari's head anyway.
Hakari: (exposing her cleavage with a smug face) Awww! Darn, hoist by my own G-cups!
Karane: (thinking) I won! This... was me winning!
  • Nano predicts the precise moment a headdress will fall based on the trajectory of the wind and stands at the landing point for maximum efficiency. Uto tries the same trick herself... and misses by a few feet, prompting Nano to walk over and pick it up for her.
  • Mei grabs two headdresses and presents them to Hahari, but Hahari says she only wanted to see everyone else wear them. When Mei apologizes for her "inexcusable impertinence," Hahari finds Mei's gloomy face so cute that she wants to kiss her. After Hahari allows Mei to put it on her, Mei puts both of them on Hahari's head.
  • Matsuri, Kusuri, and Chiyo have a competition to see who can catch theirs first. The three of them look like adorable chibi figures as they hop for them, which is so cute that Yaku blushes.
  • When Himeka grabs her own headdress, she puts it on backwards to be as abnormal as possible. The headdress looks exactly the same both ways, but Kurumi just runs with it.
    • Kurumi thinks a headdress looks like wakame seaweed and bites it.
Himeka: You're not too normal yourself! Well done!
  • Suu struggles to understand why she should care about collecting a headdress... until Ahko points out two headdresses falling together, forming the shape of a 3.
  • Momoha drunkenly stumbles after a "magical flying headdressh."
Mai: She really looks like a drunk chasing after an alcohol-induced hallucination...
Karane: Not that far off from reality.
  • Mai falls on her face when she catches a headdress, with Momoha pointing out how red Mai's forehead is. When Momoha places her headdress on Mai's forehead, Mai says, "Don't treat it like it's a bandage!"
  • Naddy tries to grab two flying headdresses with her 'Murrican justice lasso. The lasso ends up landing around Yaku's neck instead, and both headdresses land on her head.
Naddy: Catching two headdresses with one grande lolita, ya hear?
  • Yamame tries to get a headdress, but it keeps blowing away from her. She concludes it's not a living thing.
    • Momiji climbs up Yamame's back (and fondles her chest for a grope break) to catch two headdresses. Yamame thanks Momiji while Momiji thanks Yamame.
  • Shizuka gets blown away by the wind again, but Meme grabs her with both hands and refuses to let go, even if it means her bangs will be blown away. Then a headdress covers Meme's face while another covers Shizuka's eyes.
    • Shizuka continues her trend of managing to operate her phone's text-to-speech when she shouldn't be able to, in this case due to Meme tightly holding both of her hands.
  • One headdress is naturally drawn to Mimimi and her beauty, only for it to "swoop, naturally" away because of her exceedingly smooth hair.
    • Rin tries to catch it herself, but when the wind starts spinning it around, she imagines it striking her like a boomerang and stabbing her through the head.
      Rin: Molto Boomerango!
    • The headdress does hit Rin, but it bounces off and lands on Tama, who's cat loafing. Then two more headdresses land on Tama's cat ears.
  • Rentarou tries his absolute hardest not to squeal with excitement at the sight of all his girlfriends dressed as gothic lolitas, but once they all have headdresses he can't contain himself anymore. The sound practically erupts out of his mouth like a Breath Weapon.
    • As he's crying out with joy, one final headdress lands right on his own head. Calling back to chapter 142, Momoha declares now he needs to dress up as a lolita as well.
Rentarou: And here I thought I'd managed to get out of doing it!
    • The narrator says since the chapter's run out of pages, Rentarou will have to wait until the end of volume extras, while Rentarou insists that he's fine with passing.

Chapter 164

  • Kusuri is adding syrup to her shaved ice while comparing it to making drugs. She adds so much that Matsuri thinks it looks like a mess, but Kusuri insists that ugly ice is the best medicine. Despite its appearance, both of them agree it still tastes great.
  • Rin is having trouble hitting her target in a shooting gallery. When Matsuri asks what Rin is aiming for, the latter says she's trying to hit a knit doll's... head. A doll that looks suspiciously similar to Rin, no less. Rin is quite pleased when Matsuri's shot caves in the doll's face.
  • Shizuka can't afford cotton candy, so Matsuri decides to pitch in and share half with her. The cotton candy is so huge it's bigger than Shizuka's head.
  • Upon seeing Matsuri throw a ball in a ball toss game, Iku asks Matsuri to throw it at her.
Matsuri: 'Cuz you wanna play some catch, ey? Right? That it?
  • When Matsuri thinks about how nice it would be if the festival went on forever, an angel-like spirit with a Slasher Smile suddenly appears next to her. The spirit tries to introduce himself, but his word bubbles are covered by Matsuri shouting, "You wot, ya daft sod?! The bloody 'ell're you?!"
Spirit: I just explained as much, but your shouts covered that up.
  • After Matsuri accepts the spirit's offer, the group continues to enjoy the festival for hours or days. When Rentarou asks how much the takoyaki cost, Suu says it doesn't matter because they have infinite money. Matsuri says that's weird for Suu to say because the latter loves to talk about numbers, followed by Suu saying, "Numbers are whatever. Festivals are so much more fun!"
  • Things only get more wrong from here.
    • Kusuri barely added any syrup to her shaved ice, so it doesn't look druggy at all. Kusuri says, "Who cares about drugs? Festivals are so much more fun, yep yep!"
    • Iku doesn't want to play baseball because festivals are more fun.
    • Rin isn't interested in violins or violence. Even her catchphrase changed, into "Molto festivo."
    • Shizuka still uses her phone to talk, but she says she doesn't have time for books.
  • Realizing what she did, Matsuri tries to get the spirit to undo her wish, but he refuses because, as the God of Infinity, he wants the festival to last forever. Matsuri is so heartbroken that she breaks down crying. Rentarou then appears with a smile and a darkened face saying he's going to kill the god.
  • The god is shocked that Rentarou can defy his divine power, as doing so should be impossible. Even if Rentarou could summon the willpower to oppose him, the pain alone should've shattered his mind. The god clearly has no idea who he's dealing with here.
  • In a last ditch effort to save himself, the god multiplies his divine power by ten. Rentarou suddenly turns around and starts cheering about the festival, only to stop and do an Exorcist Head as he reiterates his desire to kill the god and burn down his shrine. The god is so terrified that he says Anything but That! and enters a Pose of Supplication while trembling in fear.
  • With the damage undone, the chapter ends with the God of Love reading a paper called God News while eating fried egg on toast. After learning the God of Infinity tried to draw humans into the infinite, the God of Love condemns him and says, "Some gods are such troublemakers."
    Narration: You shut up.

Chapter 165

  • Hakari and Nano are shopping for underwear, with the former asking which set would titillate Rentarou the most. Nano says if her aim is to titillate, it would be most efficient to wear no underwear at all.
Hakari: What am I, a flasher?
Nano: Even if you were, Aijou Rentarou would love you no less.
Hakari: Yeah, but I'd be disturbed by myself.
    • According to Hakari, Rentarou would surely be taken aback if she suddenly dropped her "pure and innocent lady" character. Nano is baffled by Hakari's reason, since the latter's status as a Lovable Sex Maniac is already an Open Secret among everyone.
  • Momoha and Kurumi are endlessly eating the excess vegetables Yamame grew, despite her warning that they'll hurt themselves if they overeat. When the ravenous eaters claim they can't let the food go to waste, Yaku offers to pickle the extra vegetables so they can last longer. Momoha and Kurumi gush about eating them with rice, before dancing while chanting, "Nobel Prize!" Yaku thinks they're saying, "No bell price."
  • When Suu hurts her hand, she has Ahko rub it better while singing, "Pain, pain, go away." Kishika notices this and pretends she hurt her hand in the hope that Ahko would do the same for her, but Ahko just offers to get a compress from the nurse's office instead.
    • Meme realizes what Kishika wanted and nervously sings the "Pain, pain" song while rubbing the latter's hand. Kishika immediately enters baby mode while Meme starts to sing the song with more enthusiasm. Then Kishika stares at Meme's chest and says, "Boobies," followed by the sound of Meme disappearing.
  • While Kusuri and Chiyo are grocery shopping, their fathers try to one up each other.
    • Hiro tells Chiyo to go play at the arcade while he does the shopping himself. Chiyo says they both know he can't go shopping by himself because he never gets it right. Hiro insists he'll be fine, as he'll just check the list a hundred times.
    • After Hiro gave Chiyo 500 yen, Kusuri's dad tells his daughter to play too while giving her 1,000 yen. Hiro and Kusuri's dad start giving their daughters more and more money, going from 1500 yen, to 3000, to 5000, to 10000, to Hiro giving his whole wallet to Chiyo.
Chiyo: How will you shop, then?
    • Hiro and Kusuri's dad start arguing with each other until they agree to settle their rivalry at the arcade. Kusuri and Chiyo leave in disgust and embarrassment as they decide to do the shopping themselves, effectively switching places with their fathers.
  • Naddy, Rin, Momiji, and Mei are eating sushi together.
    • Rin is eating akami tuna because "its bright, bloody redness just screams molto violento!"
    • Naddy is eating a California roll (which contains crab, avocado, and cucumber) with salmon, basil, and mozzarella to get that 'Murrican taste, while drinking steaming hot tea because "it ain't sushi without it!"
    • Mei is only eating cucumber rolls because she doesn't think she deserves to eat anything more luxurious. The other girls immediately offer some of their food to Mei.
  • Mimimi shows off her earring to Hahari, who says Mimimi is "so, so, so, sooo cute." While Mimimi is flattered, she wants Hahari to talk about her beauty instead. When Hahari says Mimimi is very pretty and beautiful, the latter does her "Hm hmm, naturally" face while Hahari thinks, "But pretty dang cute at the same time!"
  • Eira is petting Tama while mentioning she's still afraid of cats because she can't get over being in the dark about what they want. Tama puts her cat headband on Eira and says the latter has to become a cat, too.
    Eira: (bashfully) M... Meow's this...?
Tama: (with a cold stare) You have yet to cast out your prrride as a human being, meow...
Eira: (thinking) Harsher than I expected.
    • To become a cat, Eira has to observe them, mimic them, learn from them, and cease any and all human activity. Tama demonstrates by laying on Yaku's lap before Eira does the same.
      Eira: (really embarrassed) Mm... Meeeow...!
Yaku: Hm? My, my, do we have another sizable cat, yes yes?
Tama: Prrrhaps there's hope for you yet...
  • Each segment usually has a brief synopsis, but this one is really long.
Mai Wanted to See Rentarou Wearing One of the Rental Costumes From the Print Club Place But If It Was Just the Two of Them It'd Be Like a Date or Something So They Invited the Others Along and Iku and Uto Joined in and Is This Really the Place for the Synopsis?
    • When Iku and Uto wear masculine outfits, Mai thinks they look like gorgeous, handsome boys. As they and Rentarou surround her, Mai panics while thinking her world has turned into an otome game.
  • While Shizuka is waiting for Karane to get some crepes, she notices that the girls around her are all gyaru girls. Shizuka proceeds to loosen her socks so she won't stand out, then pulls them back up when Karane returns. Karane asks why Shizuka was playing with her socks.
    • After Shizuka explains her worries to Karane, the latter promises to help her out if anyone gives her trouble. Shizuka is very grateful.
Shizuka: "Karane!" "You're such a bro!"
  • Himeka is looking herself up online on her phone, but she's disappointed that no one is calling her an abnormal genius. She thinks she's such an amazing singer that people don't even notice how abnormal she acts.
    • Someone called Super Apple Head (whose profile picture is a person with an apple for a head) posted an insulting comment about Himeka.
Super Apple Head: Kiki's songs are way waaay too chuuni for me. People call her a prodigy but she's so mid it's not even funny.
      Matsuri: YOU WOT?!
    • Matsuri urges Himeka to give the commenter a piece of her mind, but Himeka just brushes them off. Himeka doesn't care what people say about her because her life is just better than theirs.
Himeka: (with a smug face) And playing it off like it's no concern makes me feel like a lone wolf, standing apart from the masses. Just like... an abnormal genius.
      Matsuri: Girl, you wot?
    • Suddenly, Matsuri snatches Himeka's phone and shouts "daft sod" at it repeatedly, capping it off with, "YOOOOU DAAAFT SOOOD!" Himeka laughs a bit and calls Matsuri weird, before patting Matsuri's head and thanking her, since that cheered her up, too.

Chapter 166

  • The opening narration says, "Today, these two are doing the thing in the chapter title." Said title is "The Beach Swordfighting Couple Tag Tournament."
  • Rentarou's thoughts reveal he's been watching sword sport videos and practicing in his free time so he can show off how cool he can be as a boyfriend to Kishika. However, Kishika keeps wiping out their opponents before Rentarou can even do anything, to the point where he makes a hilariously frustrated face.
Narration: The two continued to blow through the tournament, but Rentarou didn't really get much of a chance to do anything.
  • Their opponents in the semifinals are the Gorira Alliance Chief and her boyfriend Yuu. The Chief remarks, "This guy's got yet another new woman, uho..."
  • Rentarou tries to defeat Yuu quickly, but is actually fought back as the latter is fueled by his own love for the Chief. That's right: the one force strong enough to challenge Rentarou's love for his girlfriend is Yuu's love for his girlfriend.
  • After Rentarou defeats Yuu, the latter is collapsed on the ground with X's in his eyes, which the Gorira Alliance Chief points out. She's so furious that she tries to attack Rentarou, only for Kishika to take her out from behind. The Chief also falls onto the ground with X's in her eyes while she and Yuu touch each other's heads.
Gorira Alliance Chief: Ah... even X'd out, your eyes are beautiful, uho...♥
    Yuu: Y... You too, chief...♥
  • The last opponent is the Vice-Principal with her hired date. She takes her date's sword and wiggles her arms and chest around like whips. When Kishika asks Rentarou to stand behind her, he has an internal monologue on whether to listen to her or try to show off to her. Rentarou decides he wants to prove himself to her, only to do what Kishika wants at the last second.
  • For a moment, it looks like Kishika severed the Vice-Principal's arm, only to reveal it was just her sword.
  • As the winners, Rentarou and Kishika get a reservation to a private slice of the beach, complete with a little beach house. Emphasis on "little," because the beach house is actually an inflatable shaped like one.
  • While Rentarou is pampering baby mode Kishika, Kishika thinks about how she loves Rentarou as her boyfriend, but she wonders what "daddy" Rentarou would be like. When Kishika asks Rentarou to make a baby with her, Rentarou starts sweating and nervously tells her they'll do it in the future. Kishika proceeds to throw a tantrum about wanting a baby now, before stripping herself naked and tackling Rentarou to the ground. Rentarou gets Kishika to stop by singing "Rock-a-bye Baby", putting her to sleep. Upon waking up, Kishika sobered up and begs Rentarou to kill her, while he asks her to put her swimsuit back on.

Chapter 167

  • The title of the chapter is "Everybody Was a Baby at Some Point Returns Returns."
  • When Hahari comes up to the rooftop with a new batch of baby clothes, nobody even tries to come up with an excuse for the Baby Morph Episode this time.
Hakari: I can't believe we let this become a seasonal tradition.
  • Kusuri tells everyone who wasn't ka-splooshed by her become-a-baby drug (all the new girls) to gather up, which they do without question.
Chiyo: Nobody's even going to ask why? We're just doing this?
Kishika: Such a flippant manga, this is.
    (the new girls get ka-splooshed)
Nano: All things considered, this time it went very smoothly.
Kurumi: The word I'd use is "sloppily."
  • Hahari is drooling endlessly at the new baby girlfriends while taking pictures of them at the same time, filling the area with "snap" and "splash" sounds that quickly get scrambled together.
Kurumi: If you're gonna gush, stick to just pictures or the waterfall! The SFX are a mess!
  • Momiji gets distracted while changing Uto's clothes with just how soft her butt is, thinking it's literally as smooth as a baby's bottom. When baby Momoha and Ahko squish their cheeks against hers, Momiji enjoys it so much that she forgets to actually dress the babies, prompting Kurumi to tell Momiji to get a grip and put some clothes on them.
  • The sight of a baby Ahko, in a tiny dog onesie, pointing at Karane and calling her cute is enough to make the latter surrender and go full dere. Karane then hugs Ahko while screaming, "KHHHYUUUUUTE!"
  • All the babies start drinking from milk bottles provided by Mei... except for Momoha, who Hakari catches suckling at a sake bottle! Fortunately, it was empty, but Momoha is so upset when Mimimi takes it away that she's flopping on the ground and spinning like a top.
Hakari: She's Beyblading all over the place...!
    • Hakari gets Momoha to cheer up by letting her suck on her breasts instead. Momoha gets very eager with her breastfeeding, and so does Hakari. Hahari says Hakari's name in disbelief, but when baby Tama crawls by, Hahari immediately exposes her breast to have Tama suck on it.
      Shizuka: "Pot, meet kettle."
    • Baby Tama mews like a kitten and even looks like one in some scenes
  • Kurumi is blushing, sweating, and drooling from seeing all the babies breastfeeding.
    • Himeka also sees them and starts climbing onto Meme. The latter begins to panic at the thought of breastfeeding, but Himeka starts sucking on her cheek instead, with a smug look on her baby face.
  • Kishika expresses confidence that her training is enough to keep her from falling into babylike behavior again, while secretly being thankful for how much she was spoiled in the last chapter. However, as soon as Yaku pats her on the head, she immediately regresses.
  • Mai falls over while crawling towards Mei, and both Rentarou and Mei come to help her while offering their hand. Mai is so captivated by them in her flowery otome vision that she can't choose which hand to take, causing her to overheat with swirly eyes. Rentarou notices "Mai's cute little forehead's shorting out" and has her cuddle with him and Mei at the same time. Mai is so happy she's practically melting.
  • Baby Uto and baby Himeka sing a duet.
  • Eira gets scared by the rooftop cat and tumbles into Rin, causing the both of them to start crying. Naddy tries to comfort Eira, but she just starts kicking everything in her reach like Naddy's face... so Iku steps in and lets Eira kick her butt repeatedly. It cheers Rin up, at least.
    Baby Rin: Mowwo!
  • Hahari tries to comfort a crying kitten Tama by reassuring her that it's a baby's job to cry. As soon as she says that, Tama immediately shuts up.
Hahari: I guess you'd rather strike.
  • Both Mimimi and Nano have difficulty getting Suu to cheer up, although it doesn't help that Nano keeps shaking a rattle and saying "the purpose of this toy is to appeal to babies."
    • Mimimi's method to cheer up Suu: Playing "Peek-a-beaut!"
    • However, Nano reciting pi to calm herself down works immediately on Suu.
  • As Momoha starts to cry too, Karane notes that Ahko seems pretty calm, only to notice that Ahko is crying with her usual happy expression.
  • Baby Matsuri rolls up the sleeves of her dress, but she's still upset. She only cheers up when Kusuri and Chiyo lift her up in the air like a festival float. Kusuri is having fun with it while Chiyo is embarrassed.
  • Mei has an unusual way of trying to cheer up Mai.
Mei: Honored there, honored there. Honored there it is, Mai.
  • Yamame and Shizuka are both impressed at how Uto manages to remain so calm. However, a close-up shot reveals she's practically trembling trying to keep herself together.
    • Uto gets lifted into the air by Yamame in an attempt to cheer her up, but given Yamame's size, it ends up being too high. When a bird flies by and pops a balloon, it scares Uto so much that she starts crying for mama.
  • Uto's crying causes all the other babies to start crying and calling out for mama... except for Suu, who instead calls out for "nana" (7) in the original Japanese, and "wan wan" (1, 1) in the fan translation.
  • Rentarou, of course, had been training since last time on how to take care of crying baby girlfriends, and unveils his master plan: dressing up as everyone's mother, complete with makeup, lipstick, puffy hair, dress, apron, and rocking horses and mobiles hanging from his shoulders. It works — in that it gets all the babies to stop crying and start comforting him out of pity, just like last time.
    Babies: Dhere, dhere...
Kishika: Do not... look upon him with such pity in your eyes...
Naddy: Kids can be so cruel, ya hear?
    • Himeka is absolutely starstruck to see Rentarou dressing up like that.

    Volume 20 (Chapters 168 -)

Chapter 168

  • While Rentarou is busy helping out a teacher, all the other girls have a party sharing their favorite pictures of him. All of them were taken using special peepshot camera glasses provided by Hahari (with Rentarou's consent, of course).
  • In all the excitement of the party, the girls don't initially notice that there's a brand new girl in their group, who knows all their names but is seemingly unknown to the rest of them. Yamame is the first to start growing doubts about her, and each girl after that starts silently doubting her as well, all with the same reaction ("..."). Uto's so disturbed she drops out of chuuni font.
  • Kusuri took a picture of Rentarou testing a drug that gave him long elf ears.
New girl: That's our Kusuri-senpai, and her drugs!
    Kusuri: Ah...? Yep.... yep.
    • Responding to this photo are Uto and Shizuka, two girls known for their love of fantasy and/or Fairytale Motifs.
  • Eira has a picture of Rentarou removing a bug from her, while Hahari has one of him dressed as a baby. Kishika starts blushing even harder at the sight of the latter.
  • Momiji has small doubts about the new girl, so she quietly reaches out and gropes her chest. Momiji then stares shocked at her own hand, realizing she doesn't recognize her feeling.
  • Mei took a picture of Rentarou hanging out with Hahari, who's clearly wearing her camera glasses. She handles the photo with gloves, believing that it's too valuable for her to touch with her bare hands.
  • Yaku took a picture of Rentarou picking herbs with her, but she didn't know how to properly operate the camera, resulting in a blurry, shaky shot with her own fingers in frame.
Hahari: But this is really cute in its own way! ♥ (Just like Yaku-san herself.)
Uto: One could call it avant-garde.
  • Hakari's picture of Rentarou has been carefully edited with censorship bubbles, to make it look like he's posing naked.
Hahari: (with tears in her eyes) Hakari! You're a genius...! You have such a talent for the photographic arts...!
(Hakari holds her mother's hands, looking incredibly smug)
    Karane: Pornographic, maybe.
  • Tama shares a picture of Rentarou scaring away "a tomcat looking for a good time." Iku thinks she means a pick-up artist, but as it turns out, he was scaring off an actual tomcat, by getting down on all fours and hissing at him.
    • In a Call-Back to how she met Rentarou, Rin is one of the girls responding to this picture, peeking over the bottom of the panel in "molto violento" face.
  • Meme's picture is of Rentarou from behind. Momiji asks if she likes his back, and Meme explains that he turned around when he saw her getting embarrassed — but she doesn't dislike his back, either.
  • Mimimi shares a close-up shot of her own face. As it turns out, it's a shot of Rentarou reflected in her own eye, naturally.
  • Suu took a picture of Rentarou wearing a monocle, because it looked like a 0. Karane and Mai both blush at the sight, with Karane's twintails shooting upright. Suu takes the opportunity to taunt Karane by waving the picture in front of her and saying, "Oh? More than you were ready for, huh?"
  • Karane's picture ends up being the most normal-looking one of them all, just him walking to school with her.
Suu: What the heck? This is just the completely normal, everyday Rentarou. ...That's not to say I don't want this pic, though.
    • Hakari insists that Karane just loves Rentarou way too much no matter how he looks. That suggestion riles Karane up so much that she gets frozen constantly repeating "It-it-ititititititititititititit—"
      Kusuri: Think her game crashed.
  • Suu is the first member of the family to drop the "..." and bluntly ask if they're at 28 girlfriends now.
    • Even funnier when you realize why Suu would be the one to point that out.
  • The new girl ends up sharing the final picture of Rentarou, a shot of him watching over the whole family and sharing their happiness. Having that shot is enough to convince some of the girls that she belongs, but right afterwards, Rentarou enters the rooftop to join the family...
    New girl: Rentarou-kun!
    Rentarou: Who are you?
    New girl: Who's who?
Every other girl: I knew it!
  • Most of the girls were so confused with so many other members of the family, they weren't sure if they lost track of her. Yaku was afraid she was going senile.
    • However, once they've finally cleared up the question of whether they'd forgotten about this new girl, they immediately move on to the much more pressing question: just who the heck is this new girl?!
  • During the entire chapter, the new girl only opens her eyes once, when sharing her picture of Rentarou. Even the ending notes point out how freaky it is that there's still been no zing.
  • On a meta-level, this chapter came out after skipping a week, note  so many readers were just as confused about the sudden introduction of the new girl as the rest of the cast and wondering if they skipped a chapter by accident.

Chapter 169

  • It turns out the one who talked about how freaky the new girl is was Eira, who's already on the ground after presumably falling down in fear.
  • Rentarou assures the girl that there's no need to feel threatened, saying as long as she means his girlfriends no harm, he'll let her go home alive.
Kurumi: How is that not a threat?
  • The girl introduces herself as Shiina Usami from Year 2, Class 6 and requests that she be called Usa-chan. She opens her eyes and promptly gets a ZING!! with Rentarou.
Tama: She's a second year, just like Mimimeow, right...?
Mimimi: Yes... But this is of course our first encounter. (I'm in Class 2.)
  • So why was Shiina hanging out with them? She thought that if she just acted like she belonged here, nobody would figure her out since there's so many people here.
    Karane: C'mon, that'd never work!
Hakari: Never? You were here last chapter, weren't you? Did you forget already?
  • Shiina says she's prone to feeling lonely, and feeling lonely makes her feel like she'll die. One person asks if she's a rabbit, which is appropriate since her hair looks like rabbit ears and she's wearing multiple rabbit accessories.
  • When Shiina talks about how loneliness will actually kill her one day, Nano says, "Loneliness in and of itself is not fatal."
  • How bad are Shiina's loneliness issues? She can't even go to the bathroom by herself, so she just holds it in.
Kishika: That's more likely to kill you before anything else.
  • While Shiina is fine with team sports, she can't bear solo activities like figure skating. This is accompanied by an image of Shiina in a Twisted-Knee Collapse in an ice rink shouting, "Anybodyyy."
Kurumi: You're acting like you're being banished to Antarctica or something.
  • After Shiina asks if they ever heard of trypophobia, which Kusuri explains while looking a little scared, Shiina says she has reverse trypophobia. Empty spaces and single objects freak her out, so when Shiina buys something, she has to buy a bunch more stuff so it won't be lonely. Ahko and Shizuka actually agree with her, though probably not for the same reason as Shiina.
Ahko: That's like, sooo relatable, forreal.
Shizuka: "Likewise, I can never stop at only one book. I always purchase more and more."
  • Since Shiina always wants to be with other people, she ends up being clingy, which annoys people so much that it ends up pushing them away. Then she came across Rentarou's Family, "a whole crowd of people who're super clingy and touchy-feely nonstop, every single day!" Iku, Hahari, Rin, Meme, and Chiyo think, "That makes us sound kind of ridiculous..."
  • Shiina has been watching (read: stalking) Rentarou's Family day after day, learning their names and characteristics. However, when she talks about how happy they all look and how beautiful their love is, everyone gets a throb.
  • When Shiina asks Rentarou if she can go out with him, he says, "I'm sorry, but—" Shiina assumes Rentarou is rejecting her and bursts into tears, saying, "Death by desolation..." She proceeds to run away "quick as a hare" while Rentarou runs after her. However, both of them walk when they come across the Vice-Principal so they won't be caught running in the halls and incur her punishment. Shiina is still crying while the Vice-Principal is hunched over with her tongue out in anticipation.
  • Their chase leads to the train station, where they once again suddenly walk instead of run.
Footnote: Running in the train station is dangerous. Please refrain from doing it.
    • If you look at their feet, you'll notice that they're wearing their shoes instead of school slippers, meaning during their chase they actually stopped to change their shoes.
  • Rentarou loses sight of Shiina and tries to figure out which train she went on, before noticing there's a women-only car. As Shiina tries and fails to cheer up, Rentarou suddenly appears next to her. Rentarou realized Shiina wouldn't go on the women-only car because she Hates Being Alone, so he figured she would instead go on a car that's so crowded that there's barely any room to breathe.
  • When the train suddenly hits a curve, everyone gets flung into each other. One person says they're being flattened, another shouts for help, and a third person says, "My rights! Don't I have human rights?! Hello?!" Shiina on the other hand has hearts in her eyes.
  • Once they've gotten off the train, Rentarou begs Shiina to fall in love with him. Rentarou says if Shiina's only reason for dating him was to join their family, then he wouldn't have the right to date her. After the two of them kiss, they return to the school where Rentarou does his usual girlfriend introduction while sweating.
Karane: Saw this one comin' a mile away.
  • Everyone proceeds to envelop Shiina in a Group Hug. Shiina has hearts in her eyes and says she's gonna drown in this crowd.

Chapter 170

  • While Mai is once again cleaning Momoha's tent, Momoha offers her a kiss as her big sis in return. Mai says Momoha isn't the big sister she wants kisses from.
  • Mai is studying for a maid qualification exam, and if she doesn't pass she'll have to return to her family's home to train for a year until the next exam. When Momoha notices how nervous Mai is, she encourages Mai (saying she's seen how hardworking Mai is firsthand since she cleans her tent) and even offers to come to cheer her on. Mai is touched at first before yelling that she isn't Momoha's maid.
Momoha: Awww. Does that make you my big sis, then, eh?
Mai: I'm not your big sister, either!
  • For some reason, the maid qualification test is being held at the same location and time for a qualification test for bunny girls, with the application form having a choice between the two. Mai, being Mai, gets distracted at the thought of Mei dressed as a bunny girl and accidentally signs up for the bunny girl tests, something she doesn't realize until the day of the exam and she's dressed the part.
  • When Mai realizes her mistake, her eyes turn into three wiggly circles, she sweats profusely, and her word bubble contains nothing but Confused Question Marks. Her grandmother has the same reaction when she sees how Mai is dressed, minus the wiggly eyes.
  • After Momoha convinces Mai's grandmother to not make Mai leave for training if she passes the bunny girl exam, Momoha overhears that the exam accidentally ordered an extra bunny girl uniform. Momoha decides to join too since she watched her share of gambling flicks, so she thinks she can back Mai up. Mai questions how that's going to help anyone.
  • For the first test, Mai has to show off her charm as a bunny girl while working as a waitress. Mai doesn't know what to do, so Momoha helps her out by leading her. When Mai falls on her face, her grandmother's face becomes shadowed.
  • A Failure Montage of Mai screwing up ensues, where she spills a drink, spills her cards, and flicks a ball at her head.
  • Momoha recalls Mai being more competent than this as she remembers Mai helping her while she's drunk. This gives Momoha an idea as she leaves during the recess. When she comes back, she's carrying a sake bottle and completely drunk.
Mai: What the hell are you thinking?!
  • Unsurprisingly, Momoha's drunkenness causes her to trip and spill everything, so Mai has to clean it up. Momoha asks for her tray back, but Mai refuses and says it's her tray now. The judges note that Mai just performed a flawless patch-up.
  • Mai manages to pass the exam due to how well she looked after Momoha during the final test. As they celebrate, Momoha mistakes Mai for Rentarou and kisses her, much to the latter's shock.

Chapter 171

  • The chapter opens with an explosion at the chem lab, where Kusuri has created the Kills you if you aren't thinking that the "stacked woman-ponytail-knit sweater combo" is the best! drug, the Kills you if you aren't thinking that the "slender lady-pigtails-pajamas" combo is the best! drug, and the Kills you if you aren't thinking that the "small girl-hairbun-overalls" combo is the best! drug. Kusuri decides to keep them since they might be useful for future drugs, while noting she has to be extra careful that nobody drinks them by mistake. The very next page, Kusuri accidentally gives the "Stacked" drug to Rentarou instead of tea.
  • When Rentarou collapses and says he's dying, Kusuri reveals the negation drug won't work, so they need to nurse him back to health while making sure he's thinking "the stacked woman-ponytail-knit sweater combo is the best!" the whole time. After Nano says no less than an E-cup is necessary, Momiji proceeds to list all the girls who are too small to do it, followed by the girls who are big enough.
    • Momiji refers to Shiina as "Usa-chan-san".
    • Karane, who was in the middle of Momiji's list, angrily points out she was listing everyone in ascending order.
Hakari: Nobody would have noticed if you didn't point it out. You just can't help yourself, can you?
  • As Karane objects to being shut out, Kusuri says people will believe wild things, but nobody's going to believe the former is an E-cup.
Karane: I AIN'T JUST TRYNA FUDGE THE NUMBERS, HERE!
  • Kusuri won't let Karane come because if the latter appeals to Rentarou's other fixations like "tsunderes are the best!" it would only hinder his recovery.
Himeka: He's such an abnormal boyfriend that the same would likely happen no matter who else comes along...
  • When Rentarou wakes up at the Hanazono mansion and sees all the E-cup+ girls with ponytails and sweaters, he immediately says, "I'm healed...!" Momoha says there's no way it worked that fast.
  • While Rentarou is getting treated, Kusuri in her older form offers him some medicine. Hakari asks if she double-checked it, while Kishika angrily points out Kusuri got them in this mess to begin with. Fortunately, it's her "Lays-you-to-rest" drug.
    Hahari: AS IN, KILLS HIM?!
Kusuri: No, literally just lets him rest.
  • Momoha offers Rentarou something to keep him warm: Booze!
Naddy: Yer just nuttier'n a fruitcake. Hooch ain't nothin' for minors to fakkyuu around with!
    • Then Momoha drinks the booze herself so she can hug Rentarou and warm him up, before she rolls off the bed fast asleep.
Naddy: Now that's what a real proper teach oughta be, I tell ya what.
Nano: There is nothing proper about a teacher drinking alcohol and jumping into her student's bed.
  • Hahari sings Rentarou a lullaby to send him off to sleep, which happens to be the special ending song from the anime.
Hahari: Can't hold back, hmm hm hmmm...♪
Wuv wuv wuv you, hmm hm hmm...♪
    Just gotta, gotta, gotta...♪
    Slrp mwah
    • The song has over 1.5 million views on YouTube (as of March 2024), so Hahari just finds herself singing it now and then.
  • Naddy tells Rentarou a bedtime story, which happens to be Momotarō as seen through her... distinctive perspective:
Naddy: And then that baby, and a dog, and a monkey, and a bird did a big ol' Avengers teamup and gave some red-faced horny Mother-Hubbardsnote  a right fakkyuu. Theeee end.
    Rentarou: Miss Naddy...
Kishika: How you can look so spellbound by that is beyond me.
  • The next morning, Rentarou wakes up to see the girls' swaying ponytails, the exposed napes of their necks, and their silhouettes emphasizing their curves and swells. His body temperature drops so much that he's frozen solid.
  • Hakari brings up how she once told Rentarou that her household checks temperatures through direct lip contact and kisses him.
Took 169 chapters for that foreshadowing to pay off.
    • Hahari says she's surprised that Hakari knew she took her mouth temperature as a baby with her tongue.
      Hakari: No, I didn't know that. And now I wish I didn't.
  • All the girls decide to kiss Rentarou, which causes his temperature to go up.
  • With the fiasco dealt with, Kusuri remarks she needs to be extra careful that no-one drinks the other drugs by mistake.
Narration: Next chapter is the slender lady-pigtails-pajamas combo chapter! And the next next chapter is the small girl-hairbun-overalls combo chapter!

Chapter 172

  • True to the last chapter's narration, this chapter opens with Kusuri giving Rentarou her Kills you if you aren't thinking that the "slender lady-pigtails-pajamas" combo is the best! drug instead of tea.
Synopsis: With bottomless trust for his girlfriend, Rentarou downs the drug this week with a smile...?
  • Kusuri grasps her right hand and curses it as she considers using her drugs to corrode it away.
  • Instead of having a fever, the drug is putting every muscle in Rentarou's body under immense strain. Kusuri explains how they need to cure Rentarou:
Kusuri: We've gotta get him to think the "slender lady-pigtails-pajamas" combo is the best!" while draining all the strength in his body by, say, getting everyone to laze around him in their down-time. Just an example, yep yep.
    Chiyo: An oddly specific example...
Tama: As though it were the will of some greater prrrpose...
  • Yaku doesn't know what "slender" means, thinking they should slend Rentarou.
Suu: What are you even talking about?
    • Naddy explains it's a way to throw a ball, only for Iku to say that's a "slider."
  • Kusuri explains what "slender" means in this context:
Kusuri: Everyone who's under an E-cup but isn't a little girl should work.
Chiyo, Karane, Kurumi, Mai & Momoha: (all with plastered-on smiles) Makes seeense! (This is so stupid.)
  • Hakari is distraught that her G-cups won't help Rentarou this time. Karane takes the chance for a little payback.
Hakari: Khhh... I can't believe the day has come where my G-cups are actually a disadvantage...
Karane: Oh, Hakari... (smugly) Don't let it get to ya!
  • When Rentarou wakes up and sees all the slender girls in pigtails and pajamas, he immediately says "I'm healed...!". Mimimi says it surely could not have worked that swiftly.
  • The slender girls assume their off-day positions, with Karane, Himeka, and Ahko lying down while using their phones.
    • Karane says, "It ain't like I'm watchin' cute cat videos right now or whatever." Rentarou assumes that Karane is using her phone to see her reflection because she's a hundred times cuter than any cat video. Karane points out she isn't Mimimi, while Mimimi is insulted by the thought she'd use her phone's screen to see her reflection - her face deserves to be reflected in a proper mirror instead.
Karane: That was basically my point!
    • Himeka is vanity searching and watching videos of really abnormal individuals, since there are countless pioneers in the field of eccentricity online. When Rentarou says he should try being abnormal for some videos, Himeka cheerfully tells him he doesn't even need to try to be abnormal.
    • Ahko is using social media, watching videos, and reading whatever manga is popular and read-for-free right now:
Ahko: I don't really... get? Like... difficult manga? 100 GFs is suuuper easy to get, so it's greaaat.
Kurumi: You'd have to be smart to write a difficult manga.
  • Mai reads shoujo manga and novels in her downtime. When Rentarou calls it a quiet and graceful way of passing the time, Mai says it's because she's a maid of the Hanazono estate, while her thoughts reveal she needs to be quiet so she can hear what Mei is doing in the room next to hers.
  • Uto's attempt at sounding profound is ruined by Usa-chan's recognizing the reference.
Uto: "Doing nothing." It often leads to the very best kind of something. — As one might say
Usa-chan: Oh! I know that one! That's Pooh Bear! I love Pooh Bear too!
    Uto: ...
    • Uto tries doubling down.
Uto: Perhaps it was, but given that the copyright expired on the work in question, perhaps one could say it was not.
Karane: That don't mean you can just act like it was your idea.
  • Mei sits still doing nothing because if she tries to relax, she ends up working without realizing. Whenever Hahari orders Mei to rest, the latter has to put all her effort into keeping her body still on any day she isn't working.
Rentarou: (thinking) Mei-san in her down... uh...? "Down...?!" Well, she is doing everything she can to rest in her downtime! So it counts!
  • Rin watches a movie that is just as violent as you would expect from her. She says watching movies gives her energy.
Himeka: I think that's called "adrenaline."
    • Since Rin is mimicking how she does things at home, where she normally has to hole up in her room and wear earbuds, she whispers the "Molto Violento."
Iku: I guess we get the silent violento at home, huh?
  • When Kurumi is doing something like watching movies or listening to music, she'll grab a huge candy or a whole dried squid and take her time savoring the food. Then she finishes it off with a 2-liter, family-sized tub of ice cream.
    Rentarou: You'll get a tummy-ache!
    Kurumi: My tummy is unacheable.
  • Mimimi watches TV while doing yoga to enhance her beauty, with Rentarou appearing to bend down from the top of the panel. Iku chimes in with her own routine.
Iku: (lifting weights while doing squats and looking blurry) Aw yeah, me too! I've got a hellish exercise regimen all set up for home!
Mimimi: We are no kindred spirits, I can assure you.
Mai: You're defeating the whole point of "downtime."
  • Usa-chan likes playing Smash online too because playing with CPUs is too isolating. She also enjoys talking to a stuffed toy that repeats whatever she says to it. Himeka calls her a quirky soul.
  • The whole experience leaves Rentarou so relaxed, he looks like post-5th Gear Luffy.

Chapter 173

  • The chapter opens with Kusuri giving Rentarou her Kills you if you aren't thinking that the "small girl-hairbun-overalls" combo is the best! drug instead of tea. Again. Though this time we skip the panel of Rentarou dying and straight to the girls asking what the drug is this time and how to cure it.
Synopsis: Rentarou could never, ever doubt his girlfriend, so of course this week he downs...?
  • Kusuri says Rentarou's mental age is rapidly advancing past senility, so they have to show him pure innocence to make him feel like a child.
    Usa-chan: Define small girl.
    Hahari: (drooling) A flat-chested shorty!
Kishika: Let us divvy up the responsibilities.
    Everyone: GO!
Narration: This is the third time in a row, so they've all become very practiced at this.
  • When Rentarou wakes up and sees the small girls in overalls and hairbuns, he once again immediately declares "I'm healed...!", but Shizuka forgets she's supposed to be the Straight Man for this one and Matsuri subs in instead:
    Rentarou: (heartthrob) I'm healed...!
    Shizuka: "Thank the heavens...!"
Chiyo: Um, Shizuka-senpai, you were supposed to do the straight man bit there...
    Matsuri: Bit too quick, innit?
  • Kusuri's feeling uncharacteristically insecure:
Chiyo: Um? What is it, Kusuri-senpai?
Kusuri: The readers must be thinking it's not fair for me to get another spot after the sexy woman-ponytail-knit sweater combo chapter...
From offscreen: Is this really the time? This is literally a matter of life and death.
Momiji: Mmm, but none of us feel that way, if that helps.
Suu: You hardly ever go back to being 18 anyway. You're practically two different people at this point.
Kusuri: (cheers up) 'Kay! Let's go!
  • Matsuri plays at making yakisoba with chains. Suu points out she's just doing what she does every day.
  • Momiji is playing rodeo on a toy horse, saying, "Hi-ho, Silver. Ka-clock, ka-clock," before she starts groping it. Chiyo asks her to play with it the right way.
  • Shizuka is reading a picture book, but her phone only says one word at a time. Yaku assumes it's too hard for Shizuka and reads it for her, while Suu points out that Shizuka is a high schooler, so it can't be too hard for her.
  • Kusuri and Momiji play pretend as Kusuranger and the Uncanny Gropezilla, with the expected result on Momiji's side (groping).
  • Suu's building with number blocks, but she's run out:
Rentarou: Oh... Um, well, there's these alphabet blocks—
Suu: That junk just gets in the way. Toss it.
  • At Kusuri's instigation, Rentarou and the girls build a playhouse with large blocks - so large, they end up building a nearly full-size two-storey house.
Rentarou: (thinking) For being a bunch of school kids (and one 89-year-old), putting in some effort got us a lot farther than I was ready for.

Chapter 174

  • Usa-chan says "Rentarou-kun Rentarou-kun," every time she meets Rentarou, from the school roof, to the hallways, on his phone, and outside his house, to the point where she says nothing but "Rentarou-kun" repeatedly.
    That's 32 counts of "Rentarou-kun" on this page alone...♥
    • While most people would be annoyed by this amount of clinginess, Rentarou just enjoys all the time Usa-chan spends with him.
Rentarou: (thinking) Aww! Usa-chan-senpai always makes sure to let me know what's going on! Ahh, I just feel so loved!♥♥♥
  • Some days later, the girls are talking about how Rentarou caught a cold that's so serious, he can't see anyone for a week, meaning they can't even visit him.
Suu: He's been sick every single chapter these days.
Kurumi: Well, it's not too surprising. When is he not going above and beyond what humans are capable of?
Momiji: This is 174 chapters of overworking coming home to roost...
Kishika: (holding Kusuri up by her lab coat) Let us not forget who to blame for the three previous chapters of illness.
    Kusuri: The shame, aww...
  • While the girls are discussing what they should do to cheer Rentarou up, Hahari suggests buying out Blue Impulse and using their planes to skywrite a message. One person says, "You need a doctor, too. Get that sense of value checked out."
  • Usa-chan tells Mimimi she's been keeping her distance from the other girls because she's afraid of driving them away with her clinginess. She doesn't hold back with Rentarou because he told her that even a single moment of hesitation on her part would be his fault, and he would beat his own face in until its surface area doubled.
Mimimi: And of course, there's no doubt he meant that quite literally.
  • Mimimi offers to spend time with Usa-chan because she wishes to polish the beauty of her heart to match Rentarou's and to cheer up Usa-chan. What follows is Usa-chan popping up to talk to Mimimi throughout the day, which eventually devolves into Usa-chan just saying "Mimimi-chan" on repeat.
  • Although Mimimi was smiling the whole time, when she gets to her house, which is also a tofu shop, she screams into her pillow. When Mimimi checks her phone, she gets a message from Usa-chan that just consists of "Mimimi-chan" over and over.
    Mimimi: GWAAH, NATURALLY!
  • Mimimi tries to give Usa-chan just as much attention so it would abate the latter's loneliness and satisfy her fervor. This just makes Usa-chan even clingier. Usa-chan speaks so much that the rest of the page is a giant speech bubble filled with "Mimimi-chan," with only two gaps showing what they're doing: Usa-chan sitting on the same chair as Mimimi, and Usa-chan talking to her while the latter is on the toilet.
  • By the time Mimimi gets home, she screams really loudly into her pillow while her phone is constantly dinging with new messages.
  • The next day, Usa-chan is still saying "Mimimi-chan" on repeat while being so close to her that their noses are touching.
Mimimi: We appear close enough to kiss, very literally.
  • Unable to handle Usa-chan by herself, Mimimi asks the other girls for help. When Usa-chan meets up with everyone, they confront her and say they have some words for her. Usa-chan fears she's already screwed up, only for the other girls to say they want to spend time with her, too. Momiji in particular says it's not fair that Mimimi is the only one who gets to grope Usa-chan to her heart's content.
Mimimi: I have been doing no such thing.
  • Usa-chan then splits her time between everyone, saying their names twice as she greets them. By the time school is over, Usa-chan is actually exhausted by all the socializing, but she's still happy to spend time with everyone.
  • When Usa-chan meets Mimimi, the former says she's sorry she hasn't talked to her since yesterday and hopes Mimimi wasn't missing her too much.
Mimimi: No, you... needn't worry about that.
    Narration: (For real.)
  • After Usa-chan says Mimimi's heart is just as beautiful as Rentarou's, Mimimi basks in the praise while a faded "Hmhmm, naturally!!" appears over her face.
  • As Mimimi and Usa-chan head for the washroom, the former tells Usa-chan that following others into bathroom stalls is much, much too close.
