"This program was brought to you by Resident Evil 4."
  • Following in the footsteps of the puppet show for Resident Evil Village, the Resident Evil 4 Remake now has "Capcom's Resident Evil Masterpiece Theater: Leon and the Mysterious Village", a spoof on World Masterpiece Theater and Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics that Nippon Animation had animated prior to the RE4 shorts. note  Watch Leon, Ashley, mutant dogs, the villagers and Dr. Salvador rendered in a cutesy 1970s-80s anime art style, with the village depicted as a Ghibli-esque alpine village. And each episode even ends on a sponsorship blurb!
    • Episode 1: Looking for Ashley: Leon goes around asking villagers where Ashley is. Each villager replies in increasing amounts of gibberish (actually broken Spanish rendered in Japanese), before one of them slams an axe into Leon's head, spewing rainbows. Leon sighs, "Story of my life!" as he ascends to the heavens with a halo over his head, accompanied by 4 Las Plagas-infected dogs as the signature "YOU ARE DEAD" Game Over message is shown in red text. While English-speaking fans might be confused with the "Pera pera sauce!" gibberish shouted by the Ganados who axed Leon's head, it's a reference to a Japanese meme of mishearing Spanish in the original Resident Evil 4. note
    • Episode 2: A promise between the two: Leon has Ashley promise that she keeps close to him, which she agrees to. What Leon didn't agree to was her getting kidnapped at about every turn and him getting progressively more injured while rescuing her. The (literal) nail in the coffin is Leon getting smacked and sent flying by an el Gigante with the tree trunk like a baseball after Ashley dodges its swing, sighing "I've had enough" as he flies over the "YOU ARE DEAD" message.
    • Episode 3: Help us, Old Man!: Leon and Ashley meets an old man in the village, asking for him to help getting them out of the village by building a vehicle, which he agrees, and pulls out a suspiciously familiar chainsaw when they're out of sight. Excitedly waiting for the vehicle, Leon and Ashley wonder where the old man went, only to be greeted by a chainsaw-wielding Dr. Salvador and other villagers, and get hacked to rainbow-colored pieces as their spirits ascend into the sky. We were led to believe that the old man was really Dr. Salvador. It turns out that old man was actually a different person entirely, and he had generously built a helicopter for Leon and Ashley, but he crashes straight into their angels, exploding into a rainbow-decorated "YOU ARE DEAD" sign.
  • The jacket that Leon wears at the beginning of the game is based off a design from Schott NYC, and whether by Capcom as a marketing ploy or by a fan, one of the review on the page posted in June 2022 is by a "Leon S. Kennedy".
Leon S. Kennedy: Brought this with me to Spain while searching for the Presidents missing daughter, very comfortable and cozy!

Post-release

In General

  • If Leon is dressed in the 1920s mob outfit and has the Chicago Sweeper (originally named the Chicago Typewriter), the reload animation will have him doing the hat-catching twirl, just like in the original.
  • Complete the main story on Professional Mode with an S+ rank, and you'll receive one of the most powerful accessories that gives you unlimited ammo for all your weapons. What's the accessory, you ask? A pair of cat ears.
    • Leon's other game-changing accessories follow the same kind of quirk. The accessories to improve melee damage is a wolf tail sticking out of Leon's pants. Increasing knife damage causes Leon to sprout deer antlers. Finally, the accessory for reducing the damage Leon takes? A chicken hat.
  • Remember the bottlecaps you used to get from completing the shooting range challenges? Well they're back and the way you get them is via a bespoke 14th century brass-and-mahogany...Gachapon machine. Complete with little plastic capsules inscribed with the Salazar family crest.
  • In a Black Comedy sort of way, Ashley being able to be hit by almost anything that isn't outright fatal will simply incapacitate her now, which is easily recoverable. Which means she's now Made of Iron and entirely capable of being clocked upside the face by a Ganado, and she'll just shake it off after the initial collapse and getting helped to her feet.
  • Sometimes, when catching Ashley after she jumps down from a high spot, she'll comment on your catching technique with a "Skillz." And yes, that is exactly how the subtitles spell it.
  • A Meta example: The Striker Shotgun charm increases Leon's speed by 8%, which can be quite handy. It seems quite out of place a shotgun charm would increase speed but it's a call back to the famous Ditman glitch from the original, often used by speed runners. By aiming the Striker in the original, then entering the suitcase before the laser sight appears and unequipping it, Leon will move 50 percent faster than normal. Capcom is one company that can't be accused of not being self aware.
  • The Merchant is still a treasure trove of funny one-liners:
    • He will gently chide you for buying a rocket launcher.
Merchant: Not my place to say, really, but sometimes things are more interesting if you keep a level playing field, don't you find?
    • Sometimes he takes a subtle jab while tuning up your weapons:
Merchant: A well-tuned weapon can make up for a... lack of skill, friend.
    • If you leave the shooting gallery without attempting a challenge, the Merchant will call you out on it. Turns out the pirate theme, the painted targets, the food, even the disco lights during bonus time and the scoring chart that includes a cartoonish rendition of himself... all his own work.
Merchant: O-Oi! Where you off to!? It took me ages to set this up!
  • Across the main story, some of Leon's insult/nicknames towards certain enemies can come up as this.
    • Plaga Guadaña: "Twisty son of a bitch"
    • Armored El Gigante in the castle: "Sir Ugly"
    • Regenerador/Iron Maiden: "Cuddly Bastard"
  • What happens if you are perverted enough to look up Ashley's skort or pants from down below? Ashley will cover up with her hands and stare directly at the camera with a scolding glare for a few seconds, a reference to the original games infamous line "UGH, you pervert" when you look up Ashley's skirt.

Story

Chapter 1
  • During the village fight scene, one strategy players in the original game can do is climb the tower near the town hall and just shoot the villagers as they climb up, sending them plummeting down. However, the remake throws a curveball into this strategy by causing Leon to collapse through the wooden floor of the tower. It's almost like a prank pulled by the developers to catch both new and old fans alike.
  • The game, being Darker and Edgier with a bigger horror emphasis than the original, removes plenty of Leon's famous quips from the original... but the bingo line is still there!
    • Leon's reaction to being cornered by a mob of angry villagers in the first Ganado's home? Smirk and casually muse "Hmm, I'll let myself out" before jumping out the second floor window of said bedroom and safely rolling across the garden below with the grace of Tony Jaa. Leon really is a Bad Dude

Chapter 2

  • Upon entering the village chief's manor from the back, there's a door you can open in the hallway. It's a bathroom... and there's a villager in there, just getting off the toilet. The typical "enemy notices Leon" voice line can be interpreted in this context to be less "He's here!" and more "What the hell are you doing?!"
  • During the scene at the end of the chapter when Leon is caught by Mendez in his bedroom, Mendez holds him up bodily to check his eyes for how the Plaga infection is taking hold, resulting an extreme close-up of Leon's eye with visible veins. Not amusing on its own, but if the player happens to be wearing the eye patch accessory, it covers the same eye, but the camera angle remains the same, implying that Mendez somehow came to the bizarre realization that the Plaga is taking hold in Leon's body by staring at his eye patch!

Chapter 3

  • In the "Luis Serra Report" background files that Hunnigan delivers to Leon, it details Luis' history in Umbrella as the developer of "common over-the-counter drugs" which were "discontinued before ever reaching the market". Hunnigan however left a note chastising the background report on Luis' history with Umbrella like a supervisor disciplining someone for their shoddy work.
Hunnigan: "Common over-the-counter drugs"? Do you seriously think that Umbrella would let one of their best work on some antacid or beauty cream?
  • If Leon inspects the boat at the lake, he finds it out of gas and expresses frustration with the Ganados' lack of vehicle borrowing etiquette.
Leon: Come on! Fill the tank when you're done!
  • You should definitely shoot the fish in the water at the dock. Good things happen.Explanation
  • After defeating Del Lago, Leon passes out on the boat. The thing is, depending on the state of the boat after the battle, it could very well be almost sinking, meaning that Leon could've been sleeping in water for the three hours he was out.
  • On the way to the fishing farm, Leon finds a pickaxe literally the size of a telephone pole, and chuckles "Good luck finding anyone who's big enough to actually use this thing." Not knowing that this quip will come back to haunt him three hours later...

Chapter 4

  • As an El Gigante, (and the presumed owner of the aforementioned telephone-pole sized pickaxe), crashes through a log-portcullis to confront Leon, the cop who is already numbed to the terror of fighting giants like Mr. X and William Birkin 6 years ago almost laughs:
Leon: Whoa. Goddamn you're a big boy!

Chapter 5

  • After rescuing Ashley in the church, Leon can find what's basically a pink Motorola Razr with a broken screen, minus any copyright infringing logos, and partly covered by her sorority's stickers.
Ashley: (frustrated) Seriously? I just bought this!
  • During the cabin siege with Luis, the villagers assault the building from every possible angle... including one especially dedicated villager, who apparently manages to climb up to the chimney and tumble down through the fireplace like Santa Claus.

Chapter 6

  • When the Chainsaw Sisters makes their Dynamic Entrance at the checkpoint by chainsawing through the wall in front of Leon, the US Government agent decided that the best way to dodge this attack is not to simply take a step back, but instead backflip off the very wall that is being chainsawed and make a Three-Point Landing. Despite the serious nature of the game, it gives the aura that Leon is still a dork like his original game counterpart to perform ludicrous tricks and stunts while dancing around danger.
  • During the Bitores Méndez chase sequence, he No-Sell the damage that Leon does to him. However, there is one weapon that can stagger him instantly with a well-placed hit... with a chicken egg.
  • Leon’s exasperated response to Father Mendez’s towering insect form lumbering towards him out of the flames?
Leon: “You wanna get ugly? Let’s get ugly.”
    • When father Mendez sustains enough damage, his lower torso rots at the waist and falls off, leaving him without his human legs. Leon, being a Bad-Dude, just had to rub salt in the wounds and quip:
Leon: “Guess your tap-dancing days are over!”

Chapter 7

  • Leon's response to Luis on their position at the start of the chapter shows that even in this continuity, he still cracks jokes about Ashley.
Leon: Well I wanted to go home, but Ashley just HAD to see this castle...
  • While not as iconic as "No thanks, bro", Leon's "Who the hell are you?" when he first meets Salazar is still hilarious for how utterly annoyed he sounds. It's obvious from his delivery alone how he feels about having to deal with another fanatical nutcase not long after disposing of Mendez.
    • Ashley can be seen smiling smugly in the background as Leon tells off Salazar.
  • If you backtrack with Ashley to the Garrador after defeating it, she'll comment on it, bringing out some dry wit from the both of them.
Ashley: (looking at the dead Garrador) Was this the... "animal"?
Leon: No, you can't keep him.
    Ashley: Yeah, that's too bad.
  • Eventually you'll reach the second floor of the audience chamber and will have to jump across chandeliers to solve a puzzle. Ashley will react in utter disbelief upon seeing Leon doing such a thing, and his responses are once again amazing.
    Ashley: Leon, what're you doing?
Leon: Don't even think of trying this yourself!
    Ashley: Me? As if!
    (After reuniting)
Ashley: Leon! Are you kidding me? Jumping across chandeliers? Seriously, who does that?
    Leon: What're you, my mother?
  • Given how action-heavy the Water Hall is, Leon's response to the cultists moving in for the attack is actually pretty funny in the control of a skilled player:
    Ashley: Leon, they're here!
Leon: Ah...the entertainment! (Proceeds to kick the ass of everyone in the room)

Chapter 8

  • When confronted by another El Gigante, this time armored and hurling truck sized boulders at him while running across the Salazar Castle walls, Leon defiantly groans:
Leon: “You *again?* You know, you guys are becoming a real giant pain in my ass!

Chapter 9

  • Luis' radio talk with Leon at the beginning of the chapter says how fed up Leon is with his quipping.
Luis: Come to my rescue, Prince Charming.
Leon: I'll show you charming, pal!
  • If Ashley gets incapacitated in the courtyard maze by a plaga-infected dog, she says this quote when Leon comes rescues her, which may be an indicator that Leon's sense of humor is rubbing off her.
    Leon: You OK?
Ashley: What can I say? Dogs like me.
  • What does Leon, true to his old self, say after killing the Plaga Knights? "Nighty Night, Knights."
    • Even better when you consider that Leon pauses briefly after Ashley talks to him before saying that line, meaning that he probably came up with it right then and there.
  • At one point when you pass some suits of armor Ashley remarks that Leon should considering wearing the armor to make him bulletproof and Leon laughs off the suggestion. Can be doubly funny if you are playing this section with Ashley’s own set of armor.
Ashley: I. Am done. With armor.
(immediately goes into the mausoleum containing the needed crest, which is filled with Armaduras that aren't activated yet)
Ashley: Didn't I just say I was done?!
    • While it's hard not to feel bad for her because she's obviously a bundle of nerves throughout this segment, there's something weirdly hilarious about the way she whines "THIS SU-HUUUUUUCKS!!" like a grounded teenager while she dodges the numerous Armaduras chasing her around the room.
    • Even funnier if you play this section with Ashley's own suit of armor.

Chapter 10

  • Leon takes gigantic, acid spitting, camouflaged insect monsters in stride. Just another day for Leon.
Leon: Wow, Ramon, you're slacking on your pest control...
  • During the dual Garrador fight just before reaching Salazar's throne room, Leon's faced with several gangs of zealots swarming him as the Garradors rampage around the antechamber. It's a tense battle...until you realize that you can just kite the Garradors around the room and let them clear the cultists out as they charge after you and tear through everything and everyone in their way. All it's missing is "Yakety Sax".
  • After surviving Salazar's pitfall trap into spikes, Leon wandering the caverns crosses through some tight spaces, with one coming right up to an impaled individual obscuring the path. The scene is set up like an incoming Jump Scare, but it only leads to Leon's quip:
Leon: Talk about sticking the landing.
    • Made better by the reactions of several streamers saying they would have preferred a Jump Scare over Leon's line.

Chapter 11

  • Luis, as a true Spaniard, excitedly references Don Quixote, comparing himself to the titular character and Leon as 'Sancho Panza'. He hoists a pipe as though a knightly lance, only to be quickly stopped by Leon that Luis reacts with in disappointment. It doesn't stop him from occasionally referring to Leon as "Sancho" later on.
Luis: (hoists up length of pipe) Come, Sancho Panza! Let us rescue the Princess Dulcinea.
Leon: (snarkily) You're going to hurt yourself. (takes Luis' pipe)
Luis: (slightly insulted) Hey! That was my lance.
  • The Minecart Madness levels and how Leon begrudgingly goes with it. Especially when Luis starts enjoying them.
Luis: (while Leon is screaming) Haha! This is kind of fun!
  • During the high-speed minecart ride, Leon tells Luis to get the brakes. He pulls it as hard as he can... and ends up tearing it off! When Leon looks at him he only puts on a sheepishly "my bad" expression on his face while holding the brake. Made doubly hilarious as it is a direct homage to how Short-Round broke the brakes during his Rollercoaster Mine scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and awkwardly shows the lever to Indy.

Chapter 12

  • Just like in the original with Saddler's throne, Leon can take a seat in Salazar's throne room, the camera zooming in exactly like the original. With a pair of chickens also occupying the room.
    There's no time for resting.
  • Speaking of Salazar's throne room, there's a request from the Merchant that asks you to vandalize a portrait of him that lies to the side. Shooting or slicing it won't suffice, as the request requires you to throw an egg at it, which the nearby chickens can provide. However, in the event you don't want to wait for it, a nearby treasure cache holds a rare golden egg for you to throw in spite of the huge resale value it would fetch at the Merchant. What makes this funnier isn't just the incredibly juvenile scene of asking a trained Secret Service agent to pull a prank on a decrepit castellan, but how it somehow acts as Foreshadowing for his boss fight: throwing a golden egg at Salazar ends up dealing 70% of his total life, due to a deadly allergy he has. Combined with him being directly in front of Leon at the start of the fight with his body exposed long enough to toss one in time, it is entirely possible to lay waste to him by egging him to death within the span of 5 to 10 seconds.
    • Oh, and yes - Ashley, Luis, and the Merchant will all have a reaction if you throw eggs at them:
      Ashley: You— What?!/Really?!
Luis: Hey, is this some kind of joke?/You're serious right now?
      Merchant: Oi!
  • Leon mocks Sallazar's pompous habit of constantly using polite and formal speech, when the tyrant finally screams the rudest word allowed by his practically Victorian Era upbringing during their final battle:

Chapter 13

  • Leon's first encounter with the Regenerador, while nightmarish and terrifying, qualifies because of his reaction.
    Leon: ...The FUCK are you?!?

Chapter 14

  • If you get hit by the wrecking ball while Ashley is operating the crane, she will profusely apologize even though it's not her fault, especially when you're against an Elite Mook.
Ashley: (mortified) I didn't mean to! I promise!
  • After Krauser’s transformation into his first Plaga mutation as a show of his power, Leon’s reaction is... unimpressed and lets Krauser's know about it in his banter.
Leon: So that's your true power? Oh, I'd ask for a refund.
  • Ada tells Leon the location of a lab where the parasites can be extracted. Leon jokingly calls her "Ada the Encyclopedia" and if you pay attention, you can see Ada smile slightly and roll her eyes in amusement at Leon's joke.

Chapter 15

  • Mike the helicopter pilot is back and even more bombastic than the original, with a new Southern accent that makes him sound like Neebs.
Mike: Hey, tough guy, do something about that turret! I needed to take a piss anyway...

Chapter 16

  • When Leon and Ashley return to the Sanctuary, a slight detour can be taken to the altar and a treasure can be recovered. On the back of the stone mural an inscription references Osmund Saddler's distant ancestor, the first one in the entire family line. His name? Adam Saddler.
  • Leon, ever the Bad-Dude with all the puns, saves the biggest groaner for the last; after 24 hours of being offered a “Holy Body” by Saddler, he finishes off the Mad-Priest by punching a hole through his remaining human torso with a spear, quipping:
    Leon: I’ll give you a Hole-Ly Body!
    • Since Leon inheriting Marvin's knife makes his scenario-A Canon, it was Claire who drove the final railroad-spike into William Birkin's giant-eye 6 years ago while shouting a defiant "Fuck you!" Having missed his opportunity, it's almost like Leon was deliberately trying to out-cool Claire when finally given his chance to deliver his ass-kicking final one-liner... only to out lame her big brother Chris quipping "We got to the ROOT of the problem" after killing the carvnivorous Plant 42.
  • Ada gifts Leon the keys to the Jet Ski so he and Ashley can get off the island. For some reason, she decided to attach a bear keychain to it for no real reason other than to tease Leon. (The entire scene being mostly the same as the original game.)
    Leon: (Wryly) Cute.
  • As Leon and Ashley drive off into the sunset, Hunnigan is heard trying to contact Leon asking for a status update, getting more and more desperate as Leon doesn't pick up. It isn't clear if Leon is ignoring her at the moment because he's driving or if the call really isn't getting through.
  • Ada's post-credit scene has her get pissed off at Wesker's schemes and pulls a gun on her helicopter pilot to change course. The pilot isn't phased at all by her actions with a clear I don't get paid enough for this shit expression and just does as Ada says.
  • The Campaign Results screen compiled by Hunnigan at the end has several humorous points.
    • Leon's profile photo is him brooding while leaning his cheek on his fist as he is being driven by the Spanish cops. One has to wonder 1) Who took that photo to begin with for the reports and 2) That this was the best photo of Leon that Hunnigan had and chose to use for her report on the operation to save Ashley Graham.
    • Hunnigan has two post-it notes on her monitor. One is to indicate that the US government agency that she and Leon works for apparently has bingo nights at Friday, which can put some context to Leon's bingo quip after the village fight. The other is simply "Dispatch Chopper", with underline highlights under "Dispatch", almost as if she has almost forgotten to send a chopper during a mission in the past.

Separate Ways

Chapter 1
  • Ada's story opens with Luis nonchalantly performing a musical number in his jail cell as his fellow prisoners get tortured and killed. When Ada rescues him, he finishes up his tango with her. Aside from Luis' random dance routine, what sells it is Ada's unimpressed look even as she follows up with his dance.
Chapter 2
  • Wesker's response to Ada informing him about the state of the villagers.
Wesker: Consider the village infected. Complete local saturation.
  • If Ada searches around the village after fighting the Black Robe Verdugo, she can find the church tower insides collapsed, which would indicate that Leon "canonically" did indeed try to climb the tower to fight off the villagers and collapsed through the floor.
Chapter 3
  • While Ada is exploring the village manor, she can examine an oven, opening it to reveal a startled hen who had laid an egg and then quickly flees, prompting this line from Ada.
  • Ada can pick up Leon's sheepskin jacket that was taken from him by killing a Ganado wearing it as part of a Merchant's side-mission, and then sell it back to the Merchant for about 5,000 pesetas. So that's why Leon never found his jacket; Ada pawned it.
    • On a similar note, a random Ganado soldier in the last chapter can drop Krauser's beret. Ganados just love to steal unattended clothes, apparently.
    • Both of the Ganados with the aforementioned clothing wind up having character models as well. What makes this even funnier? Each model mimicking the poses made by Leon and Krauser in their own models.
  • One of the treasure discoverable in Separate Ways is one from the main game of hanging lamp on a spinning fan over a pit of manure, shoot it down at the wrong time and the treasure gets dirty. Leon has no trouble retrieving the dirty (and less valuable) treasure from the manure pit. If Ada does it, she refuses to pick it up.
Chapter 4
  • The chapter opens to Luis tiredly climbing a castle tower to get in. Meanwhile, Ada just effortlessly grapples up past him and through the window. The extra funny part is that she does this when Luis is mid-way climbing up the tower, meaning she intentionally let him take the climb for a few minutes before showing her easy way up, almost as though trolling him.
  • Ada chases Luis through his burning laboratory while warning him not to breathe the smoke. Although Luis has an oxygen meter and will die if it runs out, Ada makes it through the inferno without so much as a cough.
  • Should Ada die to the drill trap in the castle, her final stand is to... parry the giant drill with blades sticking out of it with her knife. It's a laughable futile attempt.
Chapter 5
  • As Ada follows Luis into the sewers, one of Luis' directions is an arrow to a large pool of murky water, asking Ada to take a swim to the other end. Ada's response?
  • From Ada's campaign, there is an implication that Leon fought Salazar very quickly given how soon he is able to follow and meet up with Ada in the docks below. This has led some players to joke that Leon canonically "egged" Salazar with the golden egg to kill him quickly.
    • Also, it turns out Ada arrived at the docks and found the keys for the boat just seconds before Leon arrived, so her playing it cool and appearing out of the shadows was improvised.
      • If someone had a nickel for every time Ada found something and then Leon is about to show up, they would have two nickels which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice. The first time after finding one of the ingredients for Luis and the second being the keys for the boat.
Chapter 7
  • Remember the jetski key with the stuffed bear charm that Leon receives from Ada after killing Saddler? We see in Separate Ways that the key was originally plain when Ada received it. Yet, somewhere in between all the Ganados killing and fighting with Saddler, Ada manages to find time to fit in a stuffed bear charm into the keychain to pass to Leon after he kills Saddler.
  • In the final moments of the chapter when Leon is fighting Saddler, Ada can get a good view of the fighting. Unlike how Leon would meticulously dodge Saddler's incoming tentacle attacks when controlled by the player, the AI controlling Leon will keep tanking Saddler's hits, so you can be treated to the scene of Leon just being slapped around silly by Saddler's tentacles endlessly (or at least however long the countdown timer has before the island explosions go off).
  • When you finally reach the Special Rocket Launcher's crate, a letter next to it reveals that it was purchased by Krauser for some reason, and goes at length to explain the power of the red warheads, such that they could punch through a battleship's armor (a reference to the original Separate Ways inexplicably featuring a fully-armed military battleship as one of its levels); in fact, the dealer just outright says that there's no target that would actually require such firepower and is clearly rather confused at the purchase, but refuses to question it any further.

Community-made content

  • A mod exists solely to replace Salazar's throne with a plastic lawn chair.
  • Perhaps inevitably, the "Moushley" meme has been made a reality.
"The president's daughter is a mouse. When you locate her, please don't make a big deal out of it. In fact, don't mention it at all."
