Proof that the remaining 10% is worth being exiled from continuity for here:

These are recommendations made by tropers for Fan Fics set in the Star Wars Legends continuity, all of which have been signed. After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in the 'fic, based on who recommended it. No-name recommendations will be blasted. Nobody would back up the rec. Discussion of the recommendation is welcome on the discussion page. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

HandofThrawn45

  • Recommended by Nerdman3000
  • When Disney rebooted the Expanded Universe in 2014, it brought about the official end of the Legends continuity. Yet while no new official Legends books have been released since the official end of the Legends line of books, not everyone has been willing to accept that it would seem. One author, HandofThrawn45, has for the past few years been working on a number of amazing Legends-canon compliment fan novels which are basically equivalent to new Legends books. Starting with a fan attempt at adapting/writing Christie Golden’s cancelled Sword of the Jedi trilogy, each fan novel written by this author is of high quality and excellently written, truly evoking the feeling of brand new Legends books.

YodaKenobi

  • Recommended by: MasterGhandalf
  • All of YodaKenobi's stuff is great, but his main storyline starts with a trilogy that serves as an alternate ending for the New Jedi Order in which Anakin Solo is revealed to be alive, and continues with the bridge epic Empire of the Hand and the currently ongoing Legacy of the Sith four-fic arc. In this series, the Galactic Alliance is threatened by a new race of alien invaders several years after the Vong War ends, only to be rescued by the forces of a mysterious empire from the Unknown Regions. But nothing is as it seems, and a new Sith Lord plans to somehow use the descendants of Anakin Skywalker to change the very nature of the Force itself. The above summary only gives you a rough idea — this series embodies the best of Star Wars, with action, humor, mysterious revelations, Force philosophy, and an awesome Big Bad Magnificent Bastard in the form of Darth Malig. I really can't recommend this enough — if you're dissatisfied with the current EU and are in desperate need of some quality Star Wars, look no further than YodaKenobi.

Mira Grau

  • Recommended by: Kraut007
  • Mira Grau created a fascinating Alternate Universe for the Legends Verse, which adheres to the novels continuity in broad strokes, until the end of Fate of the Jedi. However, a lot of seemingly small changes to the universe result in severe long-term effects, such as the rise of a third big power bloc between the Galactic Alliance and the Fel Empire or a very different Sith plot by the alternate version of Darth Krayt. The aptly named Grau Verse consist of several successive main stories and many side stories that flesh out the characters. While many canon characters appear in significant roles, the stories focus on various well-written and contrasting original characters. A special appeal of the stories is the detailed and plausible worldbuidling for various underused Legends nations/factions (including Eriadu, the Senex-Juvex sector and the Nightsisters), that portrays them in a more complex way. Highly recommended for readers who are dissatisfied with the Legends Verse continuity following Fate Of The Jedi. Has a TV Tropes Page: The Grau Verse.

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

    General Fics

Embers Burn Long by ina_meishou

  • Status: Ongoing; has an older, less detailed and abandoned version.
  • Recommended by Strika Amaru
  • Synopsis (unofficial): One of the many good Self-Insert fics on SpaceBattles.com, this one follows the titular Ember, or Dzwol if you happen to speak Sith, in his journey to use the Dark Side without going bonkers, allying with a Jedi without getting lightsabered, living within Imperial territory without getting shanghaied and/or killed, and, after his precognition foretells of death on a truly massive scale in a coupla decades, try to figure out if the damn Vong are actually a thing, and how to best save the Galaxy.
  • Comments: A very immersive, very well written fic. It doesn't try to sugar-coat the Dark Side and the Sith, and the protagonist is a clear anti-villain. Obi-Wan Kenobi and a 15-ish-year-old Luke Skywalker join the club for a few months, and the plot of the OT gets subtly but definitely derailed. Can't say anything about the possible Vong arc, as it's just started. Oh, and if you're put off by the protagonist being a SI, don't worry."

The House of Bacaard by Jedi Trace

  • Rec'd by Joysweeper.
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Mara Jade, Emperor's Hand, is on an undercover mission to neutralize a traitor to the Empire and makes an unexpected friend.
  • Comments: I always enjoy Mara-the-Hand stories. This was on the short side, but I enjoyed reading it. I liked the Vader cameo, too.

Star Wars: Trial By Fire by Majdnoon

  • Rec'd by Coda Fett.
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Mekumi Sakaroto, a young Jedi Padawan, sacrifices everything to march off to war and protect the Republic from the Mandalorians. With her old life gone, she must learn the ways of war and how to be a soldier, while fighting the darkness that war breeds. Cameos by Revan and Malak.
  • Comments: I was actually debating which sub page to put this one since it technically isn't a KOTOR story so let's have it here. It's a slight AU (Divergences are laid out in the first chapter) about the Mandalorian Wars and follows a Revanchist Jedi Padawan as she disobeys the council and goes off to war. I really like this story because it's a boots on the ground look at the conflict. We see Revan and Malak but they exist as distant political figures or symbols, not part of the main cast. The real focus is on Mekumi's perspective. There's a fair bit of Surprisingly Realistic Outcome going on with the reality of what it would be like for warrior monks to suddenly enlist, which is fun. Strongly reccomend.

Unite Descent: A Siri Tachi Tale by Wavesblade

  • Recommended by Nerdman3000
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: 39 BBY, Darth Sidious discovers a Jedi mission to protect a young genius, Talesan Fry. After receiving a vision of a new, stronger apprentice, he sends young Maul after the boy. Watching from the shadows, he saw his apprentice kill a Jedi Master, and a padawan fall and kill his apprentice. Taking in the fallen Jedi, he begins to mold her in his image... (Dark/Sith Siri Tachi AU)
  • Comments: In what has quickly become one of my favorite AU’s of the Star Wars fandom, this story does an amazing job in exploring Sith and the dark side training though the eyes of Legends character Siri Tachi (Who for those of you aren’t aware, she was a fellow Jedi who was Obi-Wan’s major love interest in the Legends continuity before Satine got introduced in the Clone Wars show), diverging from canon during the events of the Jude Watson’s 2005 novel Secrets of the Jedi.

Shattered by CW Basset

  • recc'd by Krsspace T
  • Status: Dead; last updated January 2016
  • synopsis: The New Republic is on the brink of collapse, the Sith have reemerged, war is on the horizon—yet everything that is happening feels wrong... So when Luke Skywalker receives an offer to go back in time to change the galaxy's destiny, can he refuse?
  • comments: This fic, while starting off in the EU around the time of Jacen Solo's Caedus days, is a time travel fic where Luke goes back in time to try and save his father from the dark side. Its well written, and explores the good and ill of Anakin Skywalker and the flaws of the Jedi in the Prequels. Its funny, tear jerkish, awesome and well written. Its one flaw; it hasn't been updated in about two-three years, though the chapters that are up have been edited recently, so it's not abandoned quite yet.

What Choice Remains by Jedi Trace and rhonderoo

  • Status: Complete
  • Rec'd by RookEncounte
  • Synopsis: Original Trilogy. Vader, Mara, Palpatine, Luke. Mara Jade is secretly apprenticed to Darth Vader. Drama, some Angst, Canon for the OT, AU for EU content.
  • Comments: A wonderful piece exploring Mara Jade's apprenticeship before becoming an Emperor's Hand, how Mara Jade went from a scared young girl to the cynically suspicious woman she became, and a wonderful inspection of Vader's emotional turmoil, especially his desire to be a father and the choices that he makes because of that. It gives readers a good look inside both characters' heads, and shows how when people have to make hard choices, there's always consequences.

Circle of Light by Jedi Trace and rhonderoo

  • Rec'd by RookEncounte
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: AU sequel to What Choice Remains. Anakin Skywalker, Luke, Mara, Solos. 15 years after ROTJ, Anakin has survived to become the patriarch of the Skywalker family and Luke is planning to marry the woman he loves. The woman Vader betrayed.
  • Comments: An intriguing sequel to What Choice Remains that focuses on the father-daughter-like relationship of Mara Jade and Darth Vader (yes, Vader, not Anakin). It does a good job of keeping the story running and expands both into the past and moves events forward. Is a fair bit dark a points, but gets lighter, and Chapter 13 is possibly one of the funniest things in Star Wars fanfiction ever, when a drunk Mara does impressions of the Imperial officers and leaders, including Tarkan, Vader, and the Emperor (Warning: Chocking Hazard). Great fun and spot-on characterization.

A Destiny Altered by An Origami Fish

  • Recommended by Draconic, aSpecialSnowflake, Nerdman3000
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In corrupting a regret-filled Tahiri, Darth Caedus makes one crucial mistake. It is not he who controls the past, present, or the future, but the Force. How much difference can one kiss make? An AU story on what happens if Anakin survived Myrkr.
  • Comments: This literally monumental undertaking is not only one of the best Star Wars fan fictions, but is likely one of the best fan works on the internet. An Origami Fish starts this story at the end of Star By Star during the scene where Anakin Solo dies. At which point everything gets turned on its head because he survives.
    • It doesn't stop there: The chain reaction continues, changing the rest of the series completely while still staying true to the original plotline. An Origami Fish rewrites the entire series after that. Character behavior is remarkably believable. Characters like Alema Rar, Taryn & Trista Zel, and the kids at the Shelter are developed substantially more than in the original series. The only issue with the story is that Luke, Han, Leia, and the droids aren’t given a lot of spotlight, but Fish takes care to give almost everyone time onscreen, from movie characters like Lando Calrissian to cult favorites Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors. Even Admiral Ackbar gets some screen time. (And let's face it: He's very old at this point in time and in the books it's noted that he passes away in his sleep. He deserves a last hurrah.) He also develops the Yuuzhan Vong 'Shamed Ones' who have defected to the side of the Jedi. They are renamed the “Freed Ones,” and are given some much deserved character development, making the Yuuzhan Vong into an actual race of people rather than being just a horde of evil monsters from the Unknown Regions.
    • The interquel, Caught Between Destiny and Fate is also complete, and is an episodic adventure focusing on a particular group of characters for a single chapter, though it doesn't feature the main characters. The actual sequels are currently in the works. The Dark Nest remake, A Fate Unseen: Swarm War, is into Part 2 of 3, and so far it’s looking like the stories will continue through to the Fate of the Jedi era.
  • Last word: Fans of the Anakin/Tahiri pairing; though this is not a shipping fic, this story is not to be missed.
[Very, very, long story; Needs its own tropes page]

Star Wars: Sword of the Jedi I: Remembrance by HandofThrawn45

  • Recommended by Nerdman3000
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: As Jaina Solo and her husband Jagged journey to an old friend's wedding, Luke Skywalker sends his son Ben and Tahiri Veila on a secret mission to his homeworld of Tatooine. In the Unknown Regions, two mysterious fleets are clashing, and the new Wraith Squadron is sent to investigate. What they find will threaten to restart the worst war in galactic history.
  • Comments: An excellently written Legends-canon compliment that almost acts as unofficial fan novels to the Legends continuity, this amazing trilogy is quite literally one fan’s attempt at trying to write what would have been Christie Golden’s Sword of the Jedi trilogy that got cancelled when Disney ended the Legends EU. The story basically serves as a pretty excellent unofficial conclusion to the Post-ROTJ Legends EU and helps to bridge the gap between Crucible and the Legacy Comics, while also acting as a excellent sendoff to the characters of Jaina Solo, Ben Skywalker, and the rest of the Post-ROTJ Legends EU cast of characters. If your a fan of the Legends EU, I highly recommend it.

Star Wars: Hour of Judgment by HandofThrawn45

  • Recommended by Nerdman3000
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: AU. One year after Palpatine's death, Imperial regent Ysanne Isard is after Syal Antilles, sister of Wedge Antilles and wife of Imperial ace turned defector Soontir Fel. As Wedge, Fel, and Isard all search for Syal, a rogue stormtrooper squad is sent by Thrawn to join the hunt. Meanwhile, Republic assassins are taking down the Empire's surviving Grand Admirals by any means necessary.
  • Comments: Written by the same author responsible for the Legends-canon compliment Sword of the Jedi fan trilogy recommended above, this story basically acts as a bridge between the X-Wing comics and novels (by telling the story of how Soontir Fel reunited with his wife and joined the Empire of the Hand) as well as a unofficial third installment to the story of the Hand of Judgement and a prequel to the Thrawn Trilogy. Excellently written, this story is one I highly recommend for any Legends fan and fan of the X-Wing novels, to the point I would outright almost consider as close to being an unofficial new Legends novel, as it fits right in with the rest of Legends and the Post-Endor books. That said though, you probably however going to want to at least reread the X-Wing comics first before reading this, at least for a quick refresher.

The Emperor's Artwork by Mouse

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper.
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A short tale set during the rise of the Emperor. A woman's brief encounter with an enigmatic warlord ultimately destroys her.
  • Comments: It's incredibly difficult to find good, in-character Thrawn fic which really captures how Zahn portrayed him. There's a community on Fanfiction.net called "Artistically Done" which claims to be composed of such stories, but seriously, it's not. This, however, gets a touch of the side of Thrawn that's usually ignored in favor of leatherpantsing. He's enigmatic and ruthless and uses people, and is just a little scary, but fascinating.
    • The viewpoint character parrots her father on how art reflects on the artist and the customer, then has to confess that she's only in the Imperial palace to look pretty.
"You're a decoration, in other words?" At my abashed nod, he lifted one eyebrow. "Yet you say you're not important. Were we not just discussing the significance of art?"

The Enemy of My Enemy Is? by depizan

  • Recommended by zorc62
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: In a story of unlikely allies, the Smuggler player character from Star Wars: The Old Republic finds a supposed enemy, the Imperial Agent, while shutting down a Sith's machinations, and takes him prisoner. The agent then tries to talk her into doing his job for him.
  • Comments: Another hilarious fic that subverts expectations for how agents of the evil Sith Empire are supposed to behave. There are additional doses of hilarity and heartwarming from the Smuggler and her crew's distrust being met with polite understanding.

Get Me To The Job On Time by otahyoni

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Ton Phanan and Face Loran have been loaned out to the Rogues for a mission, but they're running a little late...
  • Comments: This story really doesn't go anywhere, but it's still fun. In the X-Wing Series proper the cast of the Rogue books never interacts enough with the cast of the Wraith books; here Mirax and her father meet Face and Phanan. Booster and Phanan bond over having a mechanical eye each. I like the little things, like Face's pirate-voice, Phanan's cybernetics angst, and mention of Phanan closing his eye.

The Grey Space, by deaka

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Luke has doubts in the wake of Byss. Luke and Han friendship vignette.
  • Comments: Again with the melancholy. Plus, it's a fic about the aftermath of Dark Empire, and I have a soft spot for those. Dark Empire was a thousand fascinating missed opportunities, and Luke grappling with himself about his fall is one of them.

A Heart Full of Stars by Corellia's Dream

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: What if Wedge can no longer fly? Set not long before The Thrawn Trilogy
  • Comments: Wedge Antilles comes down with a neurological disease, and recovery is slow and frustrating. I found bedridden, scared-and-bitter Wedge much more fascinating than I would have thought. This fic explores the mindset Wedge has when he's helpless. He gets better.

Legacy of the Force: You Were My Brother by Dash Nolan

Limpet AU by frodogenic1

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper, Much Ado About Nonny, USA Bobcat
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: EU; Darth Vader for whatever reason was lost in the Unknown Regions for twenty-five years, in which time he had only one ship and was forced to learn a lot of restraint and become somewhat less evil. He came back to find the Empire a tiny vestige that has made peace with the Rebellion, now the New Republic — and his kids had kids.
  • Comments: It's a humor/fluff piece. The "limpet" in question is Ben Skywalker, who is two years old and adores his grandfather beyond question. Vader is very, very serious and very, very frustrated and actually very in-character with the addition of a lot of restraint(EU novels with his perspective make him dignified, somewhat aloof, prideful, liable to take everything personally, and possessing a sense of dry if dark humor. Nailed it.) I kept wanting to pick something to quote, and could not choose. It's hard to make me laugh, but this fic managed. ...I actually want to make an account there to babble at the writer. Gah!
    • Fans of this story rejoice: there's now a sequel, Driving Lord Vader (Complete). Darth Vader is roped into taking his grandson Anakin to get his pilot's license. Hilarity Ensues.

  • Synopsis: Mara pays a visit to Yavin IV. Nonangst.
  • Comments: Heh. Really, this line sold me on the fic.
"You know, you're good at this." Mara lifted her hand and opened it, indicating Skywalker, red-eyed under the covers of the bed. "You get yourself severely injured on a regular basis. How anyone can be stupid enough to walk into half the trouble you do… Concussed so many times I'd be surprised if you don't have a permanent dent in your head, not to mention the gangrenous leg from a few years back, and those weird parasite things, and now a virus? Which I've heard was a little more serious than you're claiming, by the way, so don't think I'm fooled by the nothing, I'm fine routine."

Sidereal and Tyranny Reborn by Rigil Kent (AU)

  • Recommended by Falcon Arrow, aSpecialSnowflake
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Sidereal and Tyranny Reborn (continuing where Sidereal left off). TAU after the Thrawn trilogy, where Leia's focus on the New Republic is amped up (compared to Darklighter's version), leading to some... interesting consequences, while Han returns to battle leading a fleet instead of the Falcon, and Luke and Mara Jade end up fighting clones of dead Jedi Knights/Masters, while developing a relationship... of sorts.
  • Comments: Finally, a non-Ash Darklighter recommendation...This troper found Luke crushing his prosthetic right hand to form a lightsaber grip to be awesome, and the scene where Mara Jade suffers information overload from her Force sensitivity, only for Luke to guide her through it in such a way that it pretty much shows their love to anyone in sight... and Artoo falls in love with Jade's ship computer to be one of the most awesome in all fanfic.

A Symbol, Perhaps by obaona

  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Luke and Ben Skywalker have a talk about his grandfather and destiny.
  • Comments: I love Luke and Ben and that bond they develop, frankly. This was written long before the scene in Outcast, in which Luke makes his son promise to kill him if he falls to the Dark Side and can't be stopped any other way, but it has a similar feel.

This Wasn't In The Brochure, also by otahyoni

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Hobbie Klivian and Wes Janson are on vacation. The bad guys aren't. Set one year after the Hand of Thrawn duology.
  • Comments: Here's a story that goes somewhere. Hobbie and Wes are two weeks from retirement and they're at a loss - they've been with the military for their entire adult lives. Surprisingly for a story with Wes as a main character, it's serious despite humor.
This period, just after Hand of Thrawn, is criminally unexplored in canon. I'm so glad to find at least one good fic set then, with the plausible villains being terrorists who oppose the New Republic/Imperial Remnant truce. And something that uses Karoly! And finally gives Hobbie a love interest! It's good. This and the previous were found on this rec page.

  • Synopsis: The Imperial Agent from Star Wars: The Old Republic risks his life and career to help people as he pursues his self-assigned mission to protect the Empire from the Sith.

Whole by Mouse

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper.

  • Synopsis: At Luke and Mara's wedding, Talon Karrde reflects on the nature of his relationship with the bride. Fluffy vignette.
  • Comments: Sweet little story. Karrde sees Mara Jade Skywalker and thinks back on their decade-long working relationship. He loved her, in an entirely platonic way, and while he's happy to see her happiness and has nothing but goodwill for her and Luke, she'd become a part of him, and it hurts to let her go. Mara's perceptive. It's not goodbye. Never goodbye.

The Will Of The Empire by CzarZelinksy

  • Recommended by Qrow
  • Status: Dead; last updated April 2020, confirmed abandoned October 3, 2023
  • Synsopsis: Not long after the Battle of Endor, Luke discovers that his father may have gone just a tad overboard in making sure his son, and the galaxy, was provided for in the event of his death. And who says Anakin Skywalker doesn't know how to plan!
  • Comments: Essentialy a What If? story where the night before the Battle of Endor, Vader decides to make Luke the Emperor if him and Palpatine don't make it out. Much more serious than it sounds, and much better. In character, humorous, and well-written, plus the author clearly has an excellent knowledge of Legends lore and ties as much of it in as he possibly can, in very effective and logical ways.

X-Wing: Dissolution by Astronut

  • Rec'd by Joysweeper.
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Set directly after Mandatory Retirement, this is a several-chaptered fic that tries to fix the No Ending problem and bridge the year-and-a-half period between the comics and the books.
  • Comments: It's not terrible. I know that's very faint praise, but this isn't good enough to make me gush. Some of the characters seem forced, there are minor grammatical errors, like "quiet" for "quite" and a misspelling of Pellaeon, and things seem to be a bit too convenient and fast moving. The ambitious parts are all in the beginning; it loses something as it goes on. Plus, Hobbie was already a lieutenant and Wedge a Commander by that point, and Plourr was alive at least as of I, Jedi. But even if I don't find it brilliant, it's certainly solid and has pretty good canon knowledge, an interesting first half, and nice details like the hot temper Tycho had in the comics and Thrawn telling Isard that they have a "common failing" in that they aren't human males and the Empire won't rally around either of them.

Diplomatic Emergency, by bactaqueen

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A slight EU of part of Starfighters Of Adumar; in the novel, Wedge refuses to take Tycho and leave Wes and Hobbie in charge on the ground because he knows they'll fail at diplomacy. This fic imagines what would happen if he'd forgotten about that.
  • Comments: Wes has some spectacular judgment fail. I liked the Indy Ploy nature of the whole thing, and how they almost got away with not letting the two responsible Rogues know what happened, only to be foiled by the smell of wet paint.

Flight School by yonwords.

  • Rec'd by Joysweeper.
  • Status: ?
  • Synopsis: A Gamebook fanfic with Multiple Endings. It's your first day of flight school, taught by Wes Janson and Hobbie Klivian of Rogue Squadron, and it's definitely not what you expected.
  • Comments: It's fun. Each path is fairly short. None of these endings have the nastiness and The Many Deaths of You that usually come with Choose Your Own. The closest it comes to any of that is one ending where you embarrass yourself and are told that a visit to the infirmary might be wise, although fear of expulsion is constant. A few paths have your fellow students speculating that the whole mess is a Secret Test of Character designed to evaluate how well they react to unexpected events. While it may dial up Wes's Crazy Is Cool persona even more than in an Aaron Allston novel, that's standard for fics involving him. Again, it's just fun.
"Can we please teach now?" Klivian asks. "Before they all walk out and we get fired?"

  • Synopsis: "the Cup of Compassion is bottomless." Gen(-ish), immediately post-Return of the Jedi. Also seen here.
  • Comments: Luke is a complicated character whose personality, even in canon, varies wildly Depending on the Writer and the situation. Here, just after Return of the Jedi and, apparently, just before The Truce at Bakura, Penknife writes him with a kind of weary, weighted-down characteristic that I find immensely appealing, even if it's short.
He's not angry; it isn't even a struggle anymore not to be angry, as easy as breathing in and out. Something to do all his life.

My Father's Eyes by Jedi-Princess-Solo

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: With the birth of her youngest son, Leia finally makes peace with her father's legacy.
  • Comments: I did wonder why Leia chose to name her son after Anakin and not Bail Organa. She spoke with her birth father's spirit in The Truce at Bakura and was not happy to see him. But while this does have a hint of a trope which I despise - that her adoptive father isn't her "real" father, that she's not really Leia Organa - it does have some good reasoning, and I like the sad, contemplative tone. Found thanks to this.
But my father's legacy is more than just the dread of the darkness, it's hope, as well.

  • Comments: Very enjoyable story, despite the second part not begin complete. The author does a particularly good job of depicting the rather stressful situations being experienced by Luke, who needs to pretend to be a Dark Sider to his father and the other Jedi, and by Anakin, who has every reason to believe that his future son will become a Sith and who has also just had his less-than-strict fidelity to the Jedi code rather dramatically unmasked. The author also does a good job of depicting the Jedi Council as ultimately sympathetic despite working under a flawed code.

  • Comments: A enjoyable Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade romance fic that explores both their characters. It's a favorite of mine as well. No real massive invasions or planets getting destroyed. Just a look into the characters lives as something semi normal as they are not rushing off to handle some new threat.

Alter of Waru by Jedi-lover

  • Rec'd by Omeganian
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Luke/Mara
  • Synopsis: Years after Mara's death, Luke suddenly finds himself at the end of The Crystal Star. Were all the decades since just a dream? There certainly seem to be some differences from what he remembers. Most importantly - Mara.
  • Comments: A nice Luke/Mara fic. Also a Deconstruction Fic.

Drive You Mild by obaona

  • Rec'd by aimsme
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Luke/Mara
  • Synopsis: How do two powerful, individualistic people who were formerly enemies unite? Emperor Luke Skywalker, meet Jedi Knight Mara Jade.
  • Comments: I may just be a sucker for political intrigue and tastefully handled angst, but I've yet to come across a Luke/Mara fic I've liked more. Both are slightly OOC, but no more than you'd expect given the nature of the Alternate Universe, and all in all it's fabulous.

Everything You Touch

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper, who is on a roll.

  • Pairings: Jaina/Zekk, Jaina/Jagged (That is, Han and Leia's daughter with an Unlucky Childhood Friend who is a Jedi, and also with the son of Wedge Antilles' sister and the best pilot in the empire. EU's complicated)
  • Synopsis: "Everything You Touch Turns To Ash And Gold." Speculation after the end of one novel that Zekk died. Afterlife speculation. Eventually Jaina moves on.
  • Comments: ...I want to steal that title. From the synopsis it sounds like a case of Her Heart Will Go On and I Want My Beloved to Be Happy, and those tropes are there, but gentler and subtler than usual. So is Dead Guy Junior. It's just altogether heartbreaking and sweet, and I don't even like Zekk.

Hitchhiker by Shezan (also archived here on the Jedi Council Forums and here on LiveJournal.)

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper, aSpecialSnowflake
  • Status: Dead
  • Pairings: Thrawn/Wynssa Starflare, aka Wedge's big sister.
  • Synopsis: 12y pre-ANH. Lieutenant Thrawn, a rare alien in the Imperial Navy, recently brought back from an empty planet, has to make his way up the ranks and prove himself to the Empire, not to mention First Officer Piett and visiting Holo Net star Wynssa Starflare. Appearances by Sebulba and Darth Vader.
  • Comments: My only real complaint is that the Imperial-class Star Destroyer is called "Empire's Revenge". With all the wonderfully evil names available - Star Destroyers get names like Admonitor, Protector, Reckoning, Immortal, Defiant, Vengeance, and Eviscerator, this one gets Empire's Revenge? This is twelve years before Yavin! If this was post-Palpatine, maybe, but even then, it's a weaker name. There was also a mention of a "laser machine-gun", which seemed weird. And, alas, it's a Dead Fic, not updating since 2003. The author was kind enough to respond when I PM-ed her and did say how it ends, though.
    • That aside, this is an excellent story. Stories involving Thrawn tend to be terrible, but this was well worth the read. The writer, unfortunately, does not keep to the canon standard of never showing Thrawn's thoughts, but this only happens very briefly and doesn't ruin his mystique. Thrawn plays people against each other the way you'd expect him to, so people who aren't immediately repulsed by him quickly come to be on his side. A lot of things happen at the same time and the pace is quick. The romance aspect is part of the story, but not overplayed. This chapter has Thrawn trying to explain how he read something from Duros art, and while every similar explanation that I've ever seen has been one level or another of bullshit, this actually seemed sound.
"Wynssa Starflare is a stage name. My real name is Syal, Syal Antilles."
"Syal," he repeated slowly, trying out the long diphthong, like wine in a glass. "I like it. It suits you."

Lines in the Sand, by ladylazarus

  • Pairings: Tycho Celchu/Soontir Fel, implied more than anything. Mention of Tycho/Nyiestra, his canon fiancee, but she's already dead.
  • Synopsis: Alderaan, and Tycho's entire family, is gone, and he is hiding where he's standing on the Despair Event Horizon. Fel worries that his star pupil will switch sides, and goes to talk to him just before Tycho goes on "compassion leave".
  • Comments: Verges on hurt/comfort, but Tycho doesn't let that happen. This is one of those areas of canon that I've been curious about. I love Tycho, and he's good in hinting-at-slash fics.

  • Pairings: Mara Jade/Wedge Antilles
  • Synopsis: What if events on Niruan had taken a sharp, tragic turn?
  • Comments: The author was inspired by a Crack Pairing challenge, and felt that the only halfway believable scenario Mara and Wedge would be in a serious relationship would involve Luke's death and Iella's too, and not in a Die for Our Ship way. She's living in a dream world, and his is broken. I'm glad I read it. But I don't want to read it again.
  • Warnings: Dark. Very dark. Very very very dark. With a hint of happiness, yes. But dark.

Man's Best Friend by Varghona; also found here.

  • Recc'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairings: Wedge / Wes, offscreen Wedge/Iella and Wedge/Luke
  • Rating: R
  • Synopsis: "Wes Janson's long dark night of the soul." During Starfighters of Adumar, there's a point where Wedge gets Wes to guard the hallway while he speaks to and hooks back up with Iella, and ends up leaving Wes out there all night. This focuses on what Wes was thinking.
  • Comments: I'm always interested when ficcers write about the different sides of Wedge Antilles, and this one does - the side the public sees, what Starfighter Command sees, what his friends see, and that hidden, weak side. Plus, I'm a sucker for a little heartbreak. It's also nice to see slash that doesn't really bash women.

A Small Change of Plans, by Varghona

  • Rec'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Wedge confronts Luke about his failure to rendezvous after Hoth.
  • Pairings: Luke and Wedge. There is no sex, but the situation's still slash.
  • Comments: It seems utterly realistic that Luke, by haring off to go to Dagobah instead of meeting the Hoth evacuees at the rendezvous as he said he would, would do more than ruffle feathers. If anyone else had done it, they'd be charged with deserting under fire and likely executed. Wedge is furious at him, and Luke is so slow to realize that it's more than personal. I just like that unexplored aspect to it - the fact that this sets Luke up as being outside of the Rebellion's usual structure fascinates me.

Stuff by Gheorghe 2

  • Rec'd by Joysweeper
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: One of the seminal Luke/Mara fics, written before the Hand of Thrawn duology. Luke is terribly depressed after Callista's departure, and Han talks Mara into recruiting him to help find out what happened to a lost New Republic Intelligence agent. Vast amounts of sexual tension and anger are exchanged.
  • Pairings: Luke/Mara. Reference to Luke/Callista and Mara/Lando, and Han and Leia are clearly Happily Married.
  • Comments: What can I say? Found it here. I'm actually not sure if I like it - while characters are certainly more recognizable than in some profic, I'm not sure of them. I felt like arguing several times, and when abortion of all things came up I almost quit. The main, non-relationship plot felt a little sketchy, too. But it was engaging, had some clever imagery and turns of phrase, and I don't regret the time I spent reading it.

Star Wars: Unexpected Consequences by KLCtheBookWorm

  • Recc'd by Omeganian

  • Pairings: Luke/Mara
  • Synopsis: Shortly after Yavin, Luke is captured by a Jedi obsessed Hutt, who forces him into a Mate or Die situation with a thief he caught. Mara Jade. During Han's attack to release Luke, the two are separated. He goes to continue his work as in canon, but for her, the matters are different. Pregnant, and constantly plagued by visions of the Emperor drafting the baby into his service at birth, she leaves Palpatine's service. With no way to contact the daddy.
  • Comments: A nice story with a couple of lemons. and an absolutely precious and badass kid.

A Wound in Time by Wavesblade

  • Recommended by Nerdman3000
  • Fandoms: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Status: Dead; last updated April 2019
  • Synopsis: When Revan opened up to the Force as a whole to face the Sith Emperor, rather than unleash it, he channeled it. He foresaw many different futures, Scourge betraying them among them. Desperate, he uses the Force to try to spirit them away. But, he did not know the Exile was a Wound in the Force. Her power disrupted him, and they are instead pulled through to a time far far away...
  • Comments: From the same author as Unite Descent: A Siri Tachi Tale (which is also recommended above), comes this gem which features Revan and Meetra Surik, the Jedi Exile, from KOTOR 1 and 2, time traveling forward in time to smack dab on Tatooine, in the middle of the events of Phantom Menace, thereby messing up the events of canon radically enough to the point that Qui-Gon lives and joins Dooku, Meetra trains Anakin and helps him free slaves, Palpatine tries to recruit Obi-Wan, and Darth Plagueis lives and is now in a shadow war with Palpatine. So yeah, if you want a high quality Star Wars AU fanfic, you don't need to look any further than here.

Where No Jedi Has Gone Before by RK Striker JK 5

  • Recommended by EricW
  • Crossover with: Star Trek: The Next Generation
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A crossover that dares ask the question... what is they DIDN'T just shoot each other at first? After a warp drive malfunction flings the Enterprise into the Star Wars Universe, instead of friction, there's hope and cooperation as both universes begin to communicate and make friends with each other. However, a threat from an alternate timeline would then challenge both universes to band together and protect their newfound unity. Post-Dominion War for Star Trek, non-NJO post-YJK for Star Wars.
  • Comments: From the same author as The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds is this earlier fic of theirs. While sometimes a bit of an Accusation Fic for the New Jedi Order, it's still well written, fun and intense at points.
