Struggle for Dream Island is a Script Fic created by Conner Dean (GlazeSugarNavalBlock), who also created The Inanimate Misadventures and Sinful. It is based on the first-ever Object Show Battle for Dream Island.

You can read the transcripts here.

Tropes for Struggle for Dream Island Include:

  • Action Girl: Dora. She's not your average Nick Jr. character you know and hate this time.
  • Actionized Sequel: Compared to the original.
  • Adaptational Badass: The original David was just a plain stickman that constantly says "Aw, seriously" alot, stirring up a bit of controversy caused by BFDI fans. After 10 years have passed, however, he has since evolved into a white fully biological humanoid who is now finally able to speak full sentences rather than his catchphrase. Despite his improved behavior, Word of God sort of admits that David also seems to be quite adorable by the looks of his face.
    • Dora also falls into this, where she was once a stick man who can speak fast-paced unpronounceable Spanish language before the 10-year gap happened.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Lollipop, Tennis Ballnote , and Donut develop this.
  • After the End: This fanfic takes place 10 years after The Return of the Hang Glider. Firey and Leafy have migrated north to a peaceful but unconfirmed place. As for the contestants, except for the "human David" and the other recommended characters, they unknowingly died for unconfirmed reasons.
  • Animated Adaptation: The creator hopes for that to happen.
  • Back for the Finale: In the Happy Ending, both the deceased recommended and original characters get revived 6 months later. Yellow Face also has a cameo appearance where he appears in a TV ad that one of the revived characters is watching.
  • Back from the Dead: Happens in the Happy Ending of The Final Conflict. Believe it or not, it's not only several of the recommended BFDI contestants who are once deceased, but the original BFDI contestants too.
  • Barbie Doll Anatomy: David and Dora suffer from this, but are saved nonetheless due to almost no sign of nipples, breasts, or genitals.
  • Big Bad: Tenebris.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Do you remember the bugs from the original? These small but lethal creatures that almost destroyed the show as a whole? Well, in this fanfic, 10 years later, they have somehow diverged into something worse. Lethal scythe-esque claws, deadly jaws, and hideous housefly-like eyes.
  • Big "NO!":
    • Nickel emits this after Grassy's death in The Masked Identity.
    • Ice Cube did this when she is almost weakening by the heroes in The Fight Before The Storm.
    • In Base Attack, Book did this when Ruby fell from the top of Lollipop's tower.
  • Bloodier and Gorier: In The Fight Before The Storm, the battle with the giant bugs is pretty graphic (at least they spew out green blood rather than human gore though). In one scene, David rips off a slayer's arm off and decapitates it with it. Small narrow bloody incisions is also seen on David, which is red like any real life human.
    • Struck Out and Base Attack also have their moments, where Taco kills a slasher bug with an axe and where Donut gets ripped apart by the masked person.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Tenebris's name is Latin for "dark."
  • 5* Breath Weapon: Puffball does this in Cave Crisis.
  • Canon Character All Along: Inverted with Tennis Ball, since he reveals himself in "Mark My Words" to be Tenebris (who just appears to be a half-dark-colored Tennis Ball with a crown and flaming scythes).
  • Cerebus Syndrome: With serious fight scenes, the lack of humor (except moments in Struck Out, The Fight Before The Storm, Revealance and the happy ending of The Final Conflict), and permanent deaths of objects, Struggle for Dream Island is undoubtedly dramatic even for a Fan Sequel.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Bell has her string cut by the masked person in The Masked Identity, and remains currently stringless and picked up by one of her friends, like Dora and Saw.
    • In An Old But Dangerous City, Gaty is seen injured and unconscious for a mysteriously unexplained reason. She stays that way until she was killed by Donut and Lollipop in Base Attack and revived in the good ending of The Final Conflict, where she has her body back to normal.
    • From The Fight Before The Storm onwards, David is shown to have bloody cuts caused by one of the slayer bugs.
  • Darker and Edgier: For several reasons listed below, in which they are to be read or seen to be believed.
    • It is rated TV-14 to make way for human violence, threatening scenes, and brief cursing, thus abandoning the light-hearted and comedic reality TV formula.
    • Deaths of our beloved inanimate characters are permanent this time, until in one of the endings in the finale. Not to mention they're so brutal enough to give Insectaphobe's Nightmare 2, Return of the Hang Glider and No More Snow! a run for their money.
    • In an episode called An Old But Dangerous City, two missiles and a nuke has struck an abandoned city, creating a huge explosion that entirely changes the atmosphere into a dark foggy environment.
    • As if those Nightmare Fuel moments weren't enough, the bugs that were introduced in one of the said BFDI episodes have also made a comeback, except that they're not the only kind to do the killing. See Big Creepy Crawlies above.
  • Darkest Hour: Happens in The Final Conflict.
  • Deader than Dead: Even with the recovery centers, along with the Master Recovery Center, destroyed, pretty much some of the characters fall under this trope.
  • Doomed Hometown: In The Final Conflict.
  • Expy: The bugs' designs (notably the slasher and the slayer) may have been inspired by the alien bugs from Starship Troopers and the Xenomorphs from the Alien franchise.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: Before The Final Conflict's happy ending, most of our beloved inanimate characters get these. A list also shows the details below.
    • In The Beginning of the End, the original BFDI contestants have unknowingly died in an unpleasant way during the 10 year gap.
    • In Investigation, Remote gets killed in Bomby's explosion after trying to dissolve the fire on his fuse.
    • Tree got burned alive by a flamethrower in A Desertic Occasion.
    • The masked person mercilessly kills Grassy with a chainsaw until he becomes a pile of grass.
    • When the missiles and the nuke hit the city in An Old But Dangerous City, Cloudy and Pie might have perished in there.
    • In Struck Out, an anvil came out of nowhere and hit Basketball in the head while she was explaining about Lollipop. In a disturbing moment where she begins developing large cuts in her black stripes, she deflates after the impact.
    • Eggy got vaporized by a laser in The Fight Before The Storm.
    • In Base Attack, Gaty got devoured in the hands of Lollipop and Donut. Donut also got his body ripped apart by the masked person as purple liquid begin to squirt out in the inside.
  • Genre Shift: Unlike the original entry and its 3 sequels, Struggle for Dream Island ultimately abandons the Total Drama/Survivor-like genre and replaced it into a serious adventure thriller story.
  • Grand Finale: The Final Conflict.
  • G-Rated Sex: This just in! David and Dora just did the Big Damn Kiss in the 17th episode!
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Roboty, thanks to the technology of the Big Bads' DNA combining machine.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Ice Cube and Roboty.
  • Killer Rabbit: If you think you're gonna be fooled by the slasher bug's small and round body, think again.
  • Killer Robot: The robots the Big Bad made easily fall into this, save for the anti-villainous biomechanical Roboty despite being built by the villains.
  • Multiple Endings: Two endings to that (a Bittersweet Ending, and a Happy Ending)
  • Never Say "Die": Permanently averted much like the original series themselves.
  • Sinister Scythe: Tennis Ball/Tenebris has two of these to fight with.
  • Squee: David and Dora caught this once in the series finale.
  • Standard Bleeding Spots: While several recommended characters suffer from the usual Bloodless Carnage, David unbelievably suffers from this trope, since he is now a biological human.
  • Time Skip: 10 years have passed after the BFDI finale, and not even the official contestants (except David and the recommended characters) can survive the gap.
  • Took a Level in Badass: David and Dora
  • Villainous Breakdown:
Ice Cube: No... NOOOO! How could I be losing?!
