Tropes in Sheep Go to Heaven:

  • Acceptable Breaks from Canon: Some of the students' hero names do not match up with their canon ones due to them being unknown at the time of writing: Most noticeably Tsuburaba and Tokage's.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance
    • Ryukyu and Hadou both appear much earlier due to Midoriya and Tokage selecting her for their Work Experience week.
    • Gang Orca, Fat Gum, Hawks, and the Wild Wild Pussycats appear earlier due to Tsunotori, Yaoyorozu, Todoroki, and Mineta selecting them for their work Experience weeks.
    • Mirko pops up earlier, intervening in Midoriya’s fight with Sagawa.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Iida and Todoroki suffer from this due to their lack of canon character Development.
  • Adaptation Name Change:
    • Midoriya’s Hero name is Argali
    • Tokage’s Hero name is Queen Tyrant Lizard instead of the canon Lizardy. At the time her canon Hero name was unknown, and the writer opted to keep the alternate name.
    • Tsuburaba's hero name is Air Barrier. In Canon, he goes by Tsuburaba because he hasn't picked on yet. Like Tokage's example, His canon name was not known at the time the chapter was written.
  • Adaptation Personality Change:
    • Due to his altered background, Midoriya is much more outgoing and confident.
    • Monoma lacks his canon obsession with proving his superiority to Class 1-A….because Bad things keep happening to Class 1-B instead.
    • Mineta’s Cowardly Lion aspects are played up, with his perverse tendencies taking a back seat.
  • Always in Class One: Averted: Midoriya is in Class 1-B and all the bad things seem to happen to them.
  • Animal Themed Super Being: Midoriya, in addition to the usual canon examples.
  • Ascended Extra: Mineta, Tsuburaba, Tsunotori, and Tokage all play larger roles than in canon.
  • Always Someone Better: Mineta is canonically one of the weaker members of Class 1-A, barely ranking above Midoriya in the Quirk Apprehension test. This still means that he is superior to Shinsou in physical condition, and actual combat ability, seeing as how Mineta has been in the training programs for the best hero class in the school while Shinsou couldn't even make it into 1-B and is still in General Education.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: the Vanguard Action Squad manages to kidnap their targets: Todoroki, Monoma, and Ragdoll.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Tsunotori is usually the most cheerful and friendly member of Class 1-B. When Toga threatens Midoriya, Tsunotori proceeds to beat her into the ground.
  • Bring It: Despite being utterly terrified of Todoroki, Mineta still demands to fight.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Mineta admits he’s extremely close to wetting himself when he has to fight Todoroki.
  • Butt-Monkey: Bakugou during the Sports Festival.
  • Calling Your Attacks: Tokage is fond of this.
  • Combat Pragmatist:
    • Once he knows how Shinsou’s quirk works, Mineta starts their fighting by flinging one of his balls into Shinsou’s face, preventing him from using his quirk.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • From the Sports Festival:
      • Bakugou gets OHKO’d after underestimating Midoriya.
      • Mineta stomps Shinsou, after preventing him from using his quirk.
      • Todoroki easily sweeps Tsunotori and Mineta.
      • Kendou easily defeats Iida after anticipating his moves.
    • Hadou easily beats Midoriya and Tokage in a fight. Justified, as she has significantly more experience than either of them and is considered one of U.A.’s best.
    • Muscular takes down Shishida and Midoriya in short succession.
    • Tsunotori beats the hell out of Toga once she threatens to skin Midoriya.
  • A Day in the Limelight:
    • Jirou during the Heroes vs Villains exercise.
    • Tokage during Work Experience Week.
    • Honenuki and Bakugou in the Rescue Arc.
  • Demoted to Extra: Bakugou, Uraraka, Todoroki, Iida, Asui, and virtually anyone from the Canon Class 1-A who isn’t in Alt!Class 1-B.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Since Iida, Midoriya, and Todoroki aren’t in Hosu, Native is killed by Stain.
    • A throwaway line in the Training Camp arc implies Sagawa ate Spinner. Word of God later confirms it.
  • Distant Finale: The final chapter skips forward to the now-adult Midoriya, Tsunotori, Ashido, and Yaoyorozu watching their kids take the U.A. Entrance Exam.
  • Double Entendre: Two chapters are given the optional titles of "Mineta sticks his Balls in another man's mouth" and "Mineta gets blueballed".
  • Dynamic Entry: Mirko makes her appearance by leaping off Dragon-form Ryukyu and slamming into Sagawa after he tries to take a bite out of Midoriya.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Sir Nighteye appears when Midoriya and Tokage arrive at Ryukyu’s Hero Office.
  • Eaten Alive: Midoriya nearly gets a chunk torn out of him during his fight with Sagawa.
  • Expy:
  • Eye Scream: Toga gets an eyeful of acid from Ashido during their fight.
  • Fanon: the Canon Hero name for Tsunotori still hasn’t been revealed, thus she is given the name “Rodeo” here.
  • Fingore: Toga loses a finger after Tsunotori drives her horn through her hand.
  • Groin Attack:
    • Mineta takes one to the grapes thanks to Kota.
    • Once the Summer Camp arc begins, Tsunotori ends up on the receiving end of another one thanks to Kota.
  • Hard Head: A side effect of Midoriya’s quirk makes his skull thicker than a normal person’s and his neck muscles are stronger.
  • Heart Is an Awesome Power: Turning into a sheep means:
    • Midoriya is able to run significantly faster than most of his peers.
    • He is extremely good at climbing.
    • Most people have no idea how to fight a sheep.
    • Transforming back and forth between Human form and Sheep form produces a functional smoke screen.
  • Heroic RRoD:
    • Todoroki overuses his quirk in his fight against Midoriya.
    • Transforming back and forth too quickly will exhaust Midoriya.
  • Hammerspace: Midoriya’s clothing gets shunted off to somewhere when he transforms.
  • Horned Humanoid: Midoriya has a set of sheep’s horns in Human form.
  • Human Resources: In a sense, Midoriya uses his own wool to knit sweaters and scarves.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Sagawa eats people with animal quirks because he thinks he’s the “Top of the food chain”. During their fight, he eats Tokage’s hand and nearly kills Midoriya. The author confirmed a throwaway line that implied he also ate Spinner.
  • Impaled Palm: Toga suffers one after Tsunotori drives one of her horns through her hand to protect Ashido.
  • Improbable Weapon User: Midoriya uses his scarf to entangle and grapple opponents.
  • Inspite Of A Nail:
    • Midoriya still rescues Uraraka from the Zero Pointer in the entrance exam.
    • Midoriya ends up in the same class as Yaoyorozu, Mineta, Jirou, Kaminari, Kirishima, Shoji, Tokoyami, Ojirou, and Ashido.
    • Midoriya still ends up in first place for the Sports Festival Relay. This was originally going to be averted until the author realized Midoriya’s sheep form would be significantly faster than most of the other participants.
    • Midoriya, Bakugou, Todoroki, Uraraka, Iida, Yaoyorozu, Shinsou, and Hatsume still end up as part of the final part of the sports festival.
    • Todoroki and Midoriya still fight during the Sports festival…..and Midoriya still loses.
    • The League of Villains still attempts to recruit Stain and unleashes several Nomu in Hosu. Stain is still captured and it’s implied the league will get most of their canon recruits.
    • Kaminari and Kirishima still end up failing the practical portion of their end-of-term exam.
    • The Vanguard Action Squad still attacks and includes Toga, Mustard, Dabi, Muscular, Moonfish, Magne, and Twice. In addition, Mustard and Muscular are still captured by the end of the arc. Ragdoll is also still kidnapped.
    • Yaoyorozu is still involved in an attempt to rescue the students captured by the League.
  • Lethal Joke Character: Midoriya turns into a Sheep. It doesn’t stop him from kicking ass when he has to.
  • Monstrous Cannibalism: Sagawa.
  • Musical Theme Naming: Chapters are typically lyrics from songs, with most of them coming from The Offspring.
  • Obvious Rule Patch: During the final part of the Sports Festival, Monoma enters his match after copying Kirishima and Ashido’s quirks. Once the match is over, they tell him he can’t enter his matches with any outside quirks.
  • Official Couple:
    • Midoriya and Tsunotori.
    • Tokage and Tokoyami.
    • Ashido and Mineta.
    • The Distant Finale confirms that Yaoyorozu and Sato got together.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Uraraka doesn’t place in the top ten during the entrance exam, as the circumstances that gave her rescue points did not occur.
    • Most of the lower level League of Villains members attack Naruhuta Mall while most of Class 1-B are there for a get-together. As a result, the League of Villains are still largely unknown at the time, have lost most of their original manpower, and the USJ attack never occurred.
      • Thanks to the USJ never happening, the Anti-All Might Nomu was never deployed and ends up getting used in the Training Camp arc.
    • Due to the altered rankings and team-ups in the Sports Festival, Hatsume ends up teaming up with Todoroki, the third-place winner.
    • Since Midoriya doesn’t have One for All and barely knows Todoroki, their fight is less personal. Midoriya ends up conceding the fight, unwilling to let Todoroki injure himself to win.
    • Thanks to the earlier villain Incident, U.A. bans any of their Hero Course students from doing their Work Experience Week anywhere near Hosu. As a result, Iida never goes after Stain and lacks his Post-Stain character development.
    • Because of their limited interactions with Midoriya, neither Iida nor Todoroki get any of their canon character development.
    • Due to their altered line-ups, character development, and other deviations, Ashido, Monoma, Sero, and Satou all pass their final exams, while Bakugou, Todoroki and Tetsutetsu fail theirs.
    • The Vanguard Action Squad target Todoroki and Monoma. Bakugou never got their attention due to his poor performance in the Sports Festival.
      • In addition, due to altered match-ups, Moonfish ends up escaping, while Toga ends up captured by the Authorities at the end of the arc.
    • Midoriya is not informed of the rescue attempt because of the aforementioned Naruhuta Mall incident and Sagawa incident, as one more incident like that could lead to being kicked out of U.A.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Midoriya knows how to knit, and uses his own wool for it.
  • Required Secondary Powers: Midoriya has thicker neck muscles and a tougher neck and skull bones for ramming and using his head as a weapon.
    • Concern about the lack of some of these means that Izuku has to both see a doctor for his quirk and also a vet to make sure his sheep form is developing correctly (not to mention vaccinations for sheep-specific diseases).
  • The Reveal: Kendou ends up being the one who inherits One for All.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: Part of Midoriya’s hero costume. He also uses it as a weapon.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Once Tsuburaba realizes Sato can smash through his air barriers with ease, Tsuburaba elects to concede the match.
  • Ship Tease: For all the official couples, especially Midoriya and Tsunotori.
    • There are hints that Yaoyorozu and Satou have gotten closer since the Student Internships. The final chapter confirms they had a kid together.
  • Shout-Out
    • Continuing the Series’ Star Wars shoutouts, Mon Kalamari Aquarium is mentioned.
    • Tsunotori’s father, Mutsu, resembles Bojack Horseman. His name note  and speech patterns are also one to Big Macintosh.
    • Similarly, Tsunotori's mother is named Ashleigh after Applejack's VA Ashleigh Ball.
      • A throwaway line also indicates that a version of the Mane Six and Canterlot High exist as well.
    • Kendou’s mother is named Kanna, in reference to another one of Jad Saxton’s roles.
    • Tokage’s Hero name is one to Empowered Villain King Tyrant Lizard
    • In a darker example, Sagawa is named after Sagawa Issei.
    • Mineta's Mother is an expy of Mad Moxxi as both are voiced by Brina Palencia.
  • Stations of the Canon: Played with. The Entrance Exam, Quirk Apprehension test, Sports Festival, Work Experience Week, End of Term Exams, Training Camp, and Vanguard Action Squad attack still occur, but end up differently than canon.
  • Sweet Sheep: Averted. Midoriya turns into an Argali sheep.
  • Titled After the Song: the Fic is named after the Cake song of the same name.
  • Transformation Is a Free Action: the change between Sheep and human is instantaneous. Midoriya weaponizes this several times.
  • Use Your Head:
    • Midoriya is extremely quick to headbutting people.
    • Tsunotori knocks Toga out with a headbutt.
  • Wendigo: Essentially what Sagawa’s quirk lets him transform into.
  • What Kind of Lame Power Is Heart, Anyway?:
    • What most people think about Midoriya’s quirk.
    • Elma’s quirk just lets her hold more food in her mouth than a normal person.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Midoriya calls out Todoroki for focusing more on his grudge with Endeavor rather than the fight.
