Fanfic / Professor Layton: The Official Troll Fic

Go To

Professor Layton: The Official Troll Fic is a Professor Layton fanfic written by WorldsWorthWords. It is a tongue-in-cheek Troll Fic and Crack Fic designed to be as ridiculous as possible.

The story follows the Professor and Luke as they go on a frantic quest to find the new Burger King restaurant. It only gets more and more insane from there, as the two journey through a London of Chaos filled with strange characters. Expect grotesquely Out of Character moments, Surreal Humor, and cameos aplenty.

This fic provides examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: The Professor apparently abandoned Flora in a deserted tube tunnel before the events of the story, and shows zero repentance for it.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Emmy and the Professor both get hit heavily this. Possibly subverted with the Professor, as a second Professor Layton appears near the end and says that the one we've been following is an imposter.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Descole and Don Paulo both try to help Layton and Luke find Burger King. Layton even refers to them as dear friends. However, Don Paulo does lead an angry mob against Layton later.
  • Adaptational Villainy: The canon professor is a kind man who loves both Luke and Flora. This professor is a jerk who callously abandons both when it suits him. Although the ending hints that it might not be the real Professor Layton...
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In this story, Professor Layton is close friends with Descole and Don Paulo.
  • Ambiguous Clone Ending: Near the ending of the fic, another Professor Layton appears and claims that he is the real Hershel Layton, and that the one we have been following is an imposter. It's never revealed whether he's telling the truth or not.
  • Apocalypse Wow: Near the end, the entire Northern Hemisphere is suddenly covered in silly putty, and goes on to "burn in chaos and anarchy".
  • Asshole Victim: The whole world declaring war on Layton simply because he turned down Burger King may be Disproportionate Retribution, but Layton's other actions thus far make sure that the audience won't lose any sleep over it.
  • Beige Prose: The narration goes back and forth between this and more detailed prose.
  • Big Bad: Most of the bad things that happen to the characters are all the fault of Professor Layton, including, if the alternate Layton at the end is to be believed, everything in the world being so crazy.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: One possible meaning of the ending is that Imposter!Layton and the Burger King are working together to plunge the world into madness and chaos.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: We never find out if Flora shoots Layton with the gun she produces.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The fic opens with a prologue where Layton and Luke have a conversation about the kind of fanfic they are in.
  • Butt-Monkey: Poor Luke. Most of the things the Professor does end up badly affecting him, and no characters give him any respect. At least it gets a little better by the end, as Delmona and Chelmey save him from falling out of a multi-story building, and he gets away from Layton's bad influence.
  • Cataclysm Climax: The world is devastated by chaos at the story's end.
  • Cloudcuckooland: Almost everyone in the fic talks and behaves nonsensically.
  • Completed Fic: It's all told one chapter, so it was completed as soon as it was published.
  • Crack Fic: It's unbelievably difficult to image any of this happening in any real Layton game.
  • Crack Pairing: Invoked. It is mentioned that Anton Herzen and Violet Reinhold, who had absolutely no connection and were both already spoken for in canon, get married. And in the "pairings" category of the fic's description, Beasly is paired with Cogg and Espella Cantabella with Inspector Grosky. Of course, in the actual story, none of these characters appear at all.
  • Determinator: Layton will never give up until he finds Burger King. However, he does decide that he doesn't want it anymore as soon as he does find it.
[Professor Layton] had to have Burger King. No power on this or any other Earth could stop him.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Professor threatens to let Luke get run over by traffic if he mentions hint coins one more time.
    • Later on, the entire world declares war on Professor Layton for changing his mind about wanting Burger King and "rejecting" it.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Flora pulls a gun on Layton for his abandoning her months ago.
  • The End... Or Is It?: Subverted. The fic ends with these very words, followed by "...yeah, it is."
  • Featureless Plane of Disembodied Dialogue: The prologue is made up of just Luke and Layton's dialogue.
  • Gainax Ending: OH BOY, IS IT EVER. After Flora pulls a gun on the professor, Stachenscarfen appears, eating an ice cream cone. Then a starfish does a happy little jig. Then another Professor Layton appears, claiming that he's the real deal and the first Professor Layton is an imposter who's causing all this madness. Then an army of mischevous pies invades and startes destrying everything. Then every blue thing in the world disappears. Then Anton Herzen and Violet Reinhold get married. Then the entire Northern Hemisphere is coated in Silly Putty. Then the Burger King gloats that it's all going according to plan. Then the whole thing is revealed to be a fanfic read by Clive and Don Paulo. It all Makes Just as Much Sense in Context.
  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Luke slaps Layton to get him to shut up about "boogying" and "getting jiggy with it".
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The ending implies that the Burger King mastemrinded everything from behind the scenes.
  • It Must Be Mine!: Layton won't rest until he has Burger King. when he finally has it, he suddenly decides that he doesn't want it anymore an rejects it.
  • Jerkass Professor Layton is usually being a jerk to somebody or other.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Every time Emmy appears, she's doing this:
      • In her first scene, she takes this trope almost literally, as she's about to throw a puppy into traffic.
      • In her second scene, she steals a child's goldfish and threatens to eat it.
      • Finally, she cheers when Luke is thrown out the window.
    • When the Professor is ranting uncontrollably about dancing, Luke slaps him to snap him out of it. The professor calms down, thanks Luke, tells Luke that he needed to be slapped... and then slaps Luke back anyway.
  • Lack of Empathy: The Professor shows no empathy for Luke or Flora's feelings.
  • Like a Son to Me: Despite his ill treatment of Luke, the professor admits that Luke is like a son to him.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: Luke finds the Professor in The Club For All These Different Characters, which is Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Frodo the Hobbit, Stargirl Caraway, the Kool-Aid Man, and Garfield all get mentioned. Also the whole thing appears to have been arranged by The Burger King.
  • Meta Fic: The story opens with characters Breaking the Fourth Wall, and ends with two other characters reading the whole fic, which they also appeared in.
  • Nice Guy: Descole, Dean Delmona, and Inspector Chelmey are the only nice characters in the story. Descole helps Layton and Luke find Burger King while Delmona and Chelmey catch Luke with a trampoline after Layton throws him out the window.
  • Obsessed with Food: Layton and Luke are obsessed with Burger King.
  • Oh, Crap, There Are Fanfics of Us!: After the story proper ends, it's revealed that the whole fic is being read by Clive and Don Paulo. Clive is dumbstruck by the mind-breaking insanity of it all, while Don Paulo knowingly agrees with him.
  • Parental Abandonment: Flora is angry at the Professor for ditching her in a tube tunnel.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The Professor spends the first half of the story obsessively searching for Burger King only to change his mind and decide that he isn't in the mood for it once he finally finds it.
  • Show Within a Show: The ending reveals that the whole story is a fanfic being read by Don Paulo and Clive.
  • Surreal Humor: The fic is made of this, non-stop.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Layton and Luke both get obsessive with Burger King.
  • Troll Fic: The story revels in being nonsensical and having the characters act in bizarre ways that would be inconceivable in canon.
  • Villain Protagonist: The Professor is the worst character in the fic, and also the main one.
  • Wangst: Invoked. Luke is much more angsty about not getting Burger King than the audience would reasonably expect.
  • Wanton Cruelty to the Common Comma: As part of the frequent grammatical errors fitting a Troll Fic, this occurs often.
  • World of Chaos: The World of the fic is filled to the brim with weird and random happenings, and the ending only turns it up to eleven.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The professor slaps Luke, threatens to throw Luke into the London street if he doesn't shut up about hint coins, and finally hurls him out a window to an angry crowd below just to save his own skin. Thankfully, Luke is caught on a trampoline.
