Fanfic / Hawkmoth Defeated

Go To

Damian and Maya were just minding their own business, flying over Paris on the way to their next "Year of Atonement" task. The local superheroes mistaking them for enemies wasn't too much of a surprise.

Uncovering a supervillain, and subsequently a fellow member of the "Turns out my parent is/was an abusive asshole supervillain" club had definitely NOT been part of his plans for the day though.

Hawkmoth Defeated is a series of crossover fanfics between Miraculous Ladybug and Batman by Keyseeker and the first installment We're The Same is complete.

A one-shot ''Who You Gonna Call? is also out.

Hawkmoth Defeated contains examples of:

    We're The Same
  • Abusive Parents: Gabriel, of course, and Talia al Ghul (in flashbacks) both manipulate and abuse their sons in order to get them to cooperate. Of course, they think they're just practicing Tough Love and any complications that result from their mistreatment of their sons is entirely the children's fault.
  • Adults Are Useless: Most of the adults in Adrien's life fall into this.
  • All Take and No Give: Marinette's internal monologue implies this when she goes over how Gabriel keeps Adrien dependent on him.
  • Animal Lover: Damian states he likes animals more than people because animals won't judge him for his past transgressions.
    • His love for animals also makes him pick up on the lonely undertones of Cat Noir's cat tendencies in the first chapter.
  • The Atoner: Damian, despite believing he isn't worthy of it, seeks to redeem himself after the Year of Blood, in which he committed numerous sins at the behest of his mother.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Damian, due to applying logic to the situation.
  • Bear Hug: Tom Dupain gives one to Marinette and Adrien after being worried over her absence and hearing what happened with Gabriel, respectively.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: Gabriel accuses Adrien of being a terrible son for not siding with him.
  • Berserk Button: Damian is triggered by seeing Hawkmoth strike Cat Noir. Probably resulting from the abuse he suffered at the hands of his own parent.
  • Blatant Lies: Nathalie's denials of helping Gabriel/Hawkmoth ring hollow.
  • Bridal Carry: Ladybug carries Adrien this way multiple times. Adrien noted that he feels safe in her arms.
  • Brought Down to Normal: When Robin takes Adrien and Marinette's Miraculous to test their abilities.
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Robin gives one to Adrien and Marinette while daring them to take their Miraculous back.
  • Commonality Connection: Damian bonds with Adrien over their respective, abusive supervillain parents.
  • Continuity Nod: Tikki meows in an attempt to disguise her true nature. It doesn't work.
  • Cooldown Hug: Ladybug gives a long one to Adrien after he learns Gabriel is Hawkmoth.
  • Cry into Chest: Adrien breaks down crying after finding out Gabriel is Hawkmoth, when Ladybug admits Marinette loved him since the second day of school.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Maya responds to Damian's usual rudeness with this.
  • Death Glare: Multiple, with Hawkmoth on the receiving end most often.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Amusingly averted by Marinette when she forces herself to think of Adrien as Chat Noir after the sudden identity reveal, so she can concentrate.
  • Dragon Rider: Damian and Maya use Goliath, a red bat-dragon, as transport.
  • Exhaustion-Induced Idiocy: In an amusing subversion to this, both Adrien and Marinette correctly come to the conclusion that they are their respective partners. Brought about by Sleep Deprivation, cuddling, and the drug Damian used to kidnap them.
  • Eye Scream: One of Damian's servants has acid poured into his eyes in a flashback.
  • Fainting: After finally defeating Hawkmoth and keeping his emotions from bursting, Adrien collapses for a moment, much to Ladybug's worry.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: After they defeat Hawkmoth together, Adrien, Marinette, Maya, and Damian become much closer. Especially Adrien and Damian due to their various similarities.
  • Fix Fic: For Miraculous Ladybug/DC crossovers in general.
  • Forced to Watch: Damian's mother and grandfather mutilate one of his servants, a boy Damian's own age who is as close to a friend as he has in the League of Assassins, right in front of him.
  • Foreshadowing: Ladybug's Lucky Charm in the first chapter is in the shape of a robin. Making her speculate that Damian is somehow supposed to help them.
  • Found Family: Marinette reminds Adrien that he has Nino, Chloé, everyone in their class, and her when he feels betrayed by Gabriel and Nathalie.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Damian and Maya tend to take a... pragmatic approach to superhero-ing.
  • Heroic BSoD: Marinette keeps Adrien from withdrawing fully into this after he's told Gabriel is Hawkmoth. He still takes a while to be fully functional.
  • Hero of Another Story: As the summary states, the plot starts when Damian and Maya enter Paris on their own quest.
  • Hidden Purpose Test: Marinette correctly deduces that Robin is probably testing her and Adrien but doesn't realize he's gauging their combat abilities without powers. She doesn't care for it either way.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Hawkmoth's identity is exposed.
    • Adrien and Marinette's respective crushes are exposed to each other.
    • Marinette tells Adrien that his blue scarf was a gift from her, not his father.
    • Nathalie's identity as Mayura is discovered.
    • The condition of Emilie Agreste is revealed to Adrien.
  • Invisibility: Maya uses it to to catch Hawkmoth off guard.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Damian is abrasive, sarcastic, and has trouble working with others but is still sympathetic to Adrien and Marinette's predicament.
  • Kidnapped by an Ally: Damian - with Maya as his accomplice - kidnaps Marinette and Adrien for...reasons.
  • Lap Pillow: Marinette "accidentally" ends up using Adrien as one. He doesn't mind.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Robin offers to erase Hawkmoth's memory of Adrien being Cat Noir.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Hawkmoth is beaten and Robin punches Gabriel's lights out.
  • Legacy Character: Damian's uniform is what lets Chat Noir recognize him as a Robin.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Ladybug and Chat Noir attack Damian and Maya because they thought Goliath might be an akuma. They quickly realize their mistake.
  • Man Hug: Adrien initiates one with Damian after listening to some of the terrible things his mother forced him to do.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Maya teases Damian for the way he stares at Cat Noir. Damian states that it's because Cat Noir reminds him of stray animals he's rescued.
  • Mundane Utility: Ladybug states that if Adrien has to move they can use the Horse Miraculous to visit each other.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Goliath is described as a "bat-dragon" with red fur that seems to understand Damian and Maya when they speak.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Adrien and Marinette's response to Robin taking their Miraculous?
    GIVE. THEM. BACK.
  • Rapid-Fire "No!": Marinette's reaction to realizing her earrings are missing.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Cat Noir gives one to Gabriel after he tries to guilt-trip Adrien into freeing him, pointing out how Gabriel only ever did things for himself.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Ladybug immediately states that it doesn't matter what Master Fu decides. She won't allow him to take Plagg away from Adrien. Secret identities or not.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Robin punches Gabriel's lights out in order to get him to stop talking.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Damian sees Ladybug and Chat Noir as this even before they're actually together.
  • Stealth Expert: Robin is very good at spying on people. Including his allies.
  • Take That!: The story itself is meant as a response to the Maribat AU and its In Name Only portrayal of Damian, which the author has criticised previously.
  • Tender Tears: Adrien cries multiple times in chapter 5 after multiple revelations, one after the other.
  • Troubled Backstory Flashback: Damian's canonical abuse at the hands of his mother, and some of the terrible acts he committed on her behalf, are revealed in multiple flashbacks.
  • The Unmasking: Damian and Maya easily figure out who Ladybug and Chat Noir are. The same goes for Hawkmoth. And then proceed to reveal Adrien and Marinette's identities to each other.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Robin observes that Chat Noir and Ladybug are kind of helpless without their Miraculous.
  • Verbal Tic: Damian tends to make a Tt sound whenever he's annoyed. Which is most of the time.
  • Villain Ball: Damian observes that Gabriel's, ahem, "security system" leaves much to be desired. Especially for a supervillain.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Marinette and Adrien's reaction to being drugged and kidnapped by Damian and Maya.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • The heroes know Hawkmoth is absolutely willing to do this but it takes on another layer of horror when they realize that he's willing to do this to his own son.
    • The al Ghuls' treatment of Damian and his servant also counts.

    Who You Gonna Call?
  • Alien Animals: Krypto and possibly the super-cat are from Krypton.
  • Alternate Animal Affection: Ladybug and Cat Noir's hamster rubs against her cheek and neck affectionately.
  • Animal Lover: Considering Cat Noir's willingness to dogpile with an assortment of super-pets, it's highly implied he counts.
  • Animal Superheroes: The menagerie Ladybug and Cat Noir interact with are all one kind of hero or another.
  • Amplified Animal Aptitude: All of the super-pets show a greater than average intelligence for their species.
  • Continuity Nod: Technically, Hamtaro, Ladybug and Cat Noir's pet hamster, counts as one. Seeing as how they constantly reference getting a hamster in the show proper.
  • It Makes Sense in Context: Bat-Cow... supposedly.
  • Shout-Out: The name of Ladybug and Cat Noir's hamster is Hamtaro.
