Five Funny Nights at Freddy's is a Five Nights at Freddy's fanfic written by ISS600. It is currently available on FanFiction.Net and crossposted to Wattpad as well as having some bits and pieces available on DeviantArt as well.

The series is an interquel to the canon lore taking place during mid-2014 and is a slice-of-life dramedy following an Ensemble Cast of: Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Mangle, Marionette, Endo 01, Endo 02 and Springtrap with Balloon Boy, JJ, Golden Freddy and Plushtrap joining the party. Freddy and his friends have since rebuilt their restaurant and manage it themselves with assistance from the former Nightguards. Things seem like they'll finally run smoothly for the gang but as we know, the history that lingers never quite rests long enough.

Currently there are 3 works focusing on the series most of which have not been updated in a long time due to lore rewrites (the series near-religiously follows the canon lore with minimal exceptions) and an update in writing quality. These works are:

All works are rated K+ and later on T (Mature on Wattpad) when the time comes to it. The DeviantArt folder can be found here.

Five Funny Nights at Freddy's has the following tropes:

  • Action Girl: Because of the actionized nature of the series, all female characters count, especially the ones who wield weapons.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Many characters have been given different names, mostly because of One-Steve Limit, but in the case of The Children, it's because they were named prior to their canon names being revealed. Many characters simply received surname changes, however a few had their first names changed instead, and some had both altered.
    • Characters with both names changed:
      • Freddybear Fazbear = Golden Freddy
      • Teddy Fazbear = Toy Freddy
      • Toby Bunny = Toy Bonnie
      • T.C. Chicken = Toy Chica
      • Toy Foxy Fox/Fianna Fox = The Mangle
      • Fred Fazbear = Funtime Freddy
      • Roxy Fox = Funtime Foxy
      • Fia Chicken = Funtime Chica
      • Frederick Fazbear = Glamrock Freddy
      • Caterina Chicken = Glamrock Chica
      • Sundrop "Sun" Lux = Sun (The Daycare Attendant)
      • Moonrise "Moon" Nox = Moon (The Daycare Attendant)
      • Eclipse Antumbra = Eclipse (The Daycare Attendant)
      • Angelo Skeleton = Glamrock Endo
    • Surnames changed:
      • Ennard Skeleton
      • Yenndo Skeleton
      • Mendo Skeleton
      • Lolbit Fox
      • Endoplush Skeleton
      • Nedd Fazbear
      • Pigpatch Porkinsun
      • Hippo Potamus
      • Orville Elephant
    • Endo 01 and Endo 02 also had their names changed slightly; both were lengthened.
      • Endoskeleton Model 01 = Endo 01
      • Endoskeleton Model 02 = Endo 02
  • Affectionate Nickname: Endo 01 is frequently called "Endone" and Endo 02 is nicknamed "N" by Marionette. He in turn calls her "Mari"note .
  • All There in the Manual: The series has a lot of supplemental material for it posted on DeviantArt.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Sweet as pie and kind as cake but if you screw with any of the cast, they will mess you up without any mercy. Just ask Purple Guy about The Nightmares.
  • Brats with Slingshots: Mentally, Plushtrap is 12 years old and his uses one as weapon of choice.
  • Broken Bird: All of The Nightmaresnote , Toysnote  and Siblingsnote  qualify due to the multitude of tragedies and guilt that has plagued their entire existence. On an individual level, they all harbor some degree of self-hatred or self-esteem issues spurned by the tragedies.
  • Cast Herd
    • The Nightmares/The Gang (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Mangle, Marionette, Endo 01, Endo 02)
      • The Small Ones (B.B., J.J., Goldienote , Plushtrap)
    • The Toys (Tednote , Tobynote , T.C.note , Fredbear, Lolbit, D.D., Mendo, Endoplush)
    • The Siblings (Circus Baby, Ballora, Frednote , Roxynote , Ennard, Minireena, Bidybab, Electrobab, Bon-Bon, Bonnet, Yenndo)
    • The Cousins (Helpy, Candy Cadet, Egg Baby, Music Man, Fianote , El Chip)
      • The Melodies (Hallienote , Nedd Bear, Pigpatch, Mr. Hippo, Mr. Orvillenote )
      • The Trashbots (Bucket Bob, Mr. Can-Do, Mr. Hugs, Catenote , Pan Stan)
    • The Rockstars (Fredericknote , Caterinanote , Montynote , Roxy W.note , Sundrop & Moonrise/Eclipsenote , Angelonote )
    • The Nightguards (Mike Schmidt, Jeremy Fitzgerald, Fritz Smith, Nicole Scottnote
      • The Dialtones (Matt Hawthornnote , Nicholas Scottnote )
      • The Others (Michael "Eggs Benedict" Aftonnote , Vanessa A.note ))
    • The Children (Gregory)
      • The Missing Children (Friedanote , Bennynote , Catherinenote , Finnnote , Georgenote )
      • The Stitchwraith (Jakenote , Andrewnote )
      • Other Murder Victims (Jamesnote , Marynote , P.J.note , Violetnote , Cassidy Morgannote
      • The Others Kids (Samanthanote )
    • The Adults (Mallory Emilynote , William "Purple Guy" Afton, Henry "Cassette Man" Emily, Tape Girl)
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Gold and purple is frequently used to symbolize what side characters are on: gold being good and purple being evil. The Nightmares feature small bits of gold and purple in their designs symbolizing their evil pasts and heel-face turns, Purple Guy is all purple as he is the Big Bad and the Missing Children wear gold party wristbands as they are the driving force of good after being set free.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Decades of murder and tragedy from 1956 to 2014 have left many horrifically scarred and deeply traumatized with unhealthy coping mechanisms.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The majority of The Nightmares are darkened shades of color (sans Mangle, B.B. and J.J.) and they're all as good as gold though absolutely not to be trifled with.
  • Decomposite Character: In the canon games it's heavily implied that Fredbear and Golden Freddy are one in the same. Here, they are completely separate characters who are instead supposed to be related to each other.
  • Devious Daggers: The Yandere Endo 02's weapon is a large kitchen knife though he is on firmly on the side of good. In a straighter play of the trope, Purple Guy used a knife to slaughter the Missing Children back in the 80s.
  • Early Installment Character-Design Difference: Both in and out of universe.
    • In-universe, the Rockstar variants of the main 4 animatronics were chronologically first in the timeline. Those models were then scrapped, downgraded and had pieces replaced so many times that eventually they looked as they did in FNaF 1.
    • Out of universe, the characters were first drawn on unmodified MLP EG bases. Colors were far simpler, designs were largely without detail and some of the hairstyles, poses and items used were different. Eventually all of the images were overhauled into what they are currently, with another overhaul planned.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Purple Guy has his deep booming voice from Sister Location and he the definition of evil.
  • Feel No Pain: Being robots, none of the animatronics feel any sort of pain. They barely have any form of touch sensation to boot.
  • Funetik Aksent: Very slightly with regards to Chica and Foxy's speech, as well as the others to capture their southern accents.
  • Fun Size: Goldie and Plushtrap are these two being much smaller and cuter than their bigger brothers.
  • Funny Animal: The majority of the animatronics in the series are all anthropomorphized animalsnote .
  • Good Colors, Evil Colors: Gold is used for the side of good while purple is for the side of evil.
  • Hold Your Hippogriffs: The animatronics have their own lingo and terminology for their own anatomy and other things such as calling hands and feet "paws" and hair "wires". A list of which can be found here.
    • "Dear Scott, what are we gonna do now?"
    • "OK everytronic, calm down, calm down."
    • "The Toys are a glowing pile of scrap metal. I'm pretty sure I got dumber listening to them."
    • "You're really getting on my circuits you know that?"
    • "My servos are all locked up. I can't move."
    • "Is your C.P.U. damaged?"
    • "I do not have a low A.I.!"
    • "I'm gonna kick his tail if he doesn't shut up!"
    • "We're so going to Fazbear's Fright for this." or "What in Fright is going on in here?!"
    • "Give me paw!" or "Can someone lend me a paw?"
  • Iconic Item: The Nightmares all have one as do The Nightguards and Purple Guy.
    • Freddy has his hat and microphone.
    • Bonnie has his guitar.
    • Chica has her cupcake "Carl" and plate.
    • Foxy has his hook.
    • Mangle has her 2nd head/bird "Mini-Head".
    • Marionette has her music box, GIVE LIFE present box and her mask.
    • Endo 01 has his screwdriver and multiple animatronic head.
    • Endo 02 has his knife.
    • Springtrap has his lighter.
    • B.B. has his balloon and J.J. has the "BALLOONS" sign (though both technically belong to B.B.).
    • Goldie has newspaper clippings and other hallucinatory objects.
    • Plushtrap has his chair and a slingshot.
    • The Nightguards have objects associated with their job (door, mask, flashlight, phone etc.)
    • Purple Guy has his nightguard badge and the knife he used to commit the murders.
  • Light Is Not Good: The Toys are brightly colored with joyful pastels and they are absolute jackasses to The Nightmares.
  • Inexplicably Tailless: Averted. While many animatronics canonically don't have tail in the games (all animatronics sans Funtime Foxy, Monty Gator and Roxanne Wolf), in this A.U., all tailed-animals have the appropriate tail for their species with slightly cartoonish proportions.
  • Innocent Means Naïve: Zig-zagged. The Animatronics are both naïve and innocent and both tend to play into each other however they also are aware of the horrors of the world and hold a jaded view of it in some regards. All in all, their innocence bleeds into their naïveté as their naïveté bleeds into their innocence while retaining a bleak view of reality and awareness to far too much yet at the same time knowing almost nothing at all about reality.
  • Insistent Terminology: The characters are referred to as both robots and animatronics in-story. The usage is almost synonymous however animatronic tends to be used more frequently when describing what they are despite them being far more functional than a regular real-life animatronic. Animatronics are, in essence, metal puppets with limited movement and little functionality. These guys are more correctly robots with full capability to use fighting techniques, to rub, jump, slide, do minor gymnastics and more, and that's just the movement.
  • Jump Scare: Natch, considering the series it comes from. It's so ingrained and prolific that The Nightmares often do this on accident.
  • Kill It with Fire: The fire at Fazbear's Frights was intended to destroy all of the robots but clearly, it didn't work.
  • Springtrap's weapon is a lighter and he fights with fire.
  • Never Grew Up: None of the child Animatronics ever really grow up and mature like an adult which is understandable since they're robots who don't age.
  • Non-Indicative Name: The series is named "Five Funny Nights at Freddy's" which implies the series is some form of comedy taking place over five nights. It's not. It's a dramedy slice-of-life with horror moments, angst from the traumatizing backstories of the characters and other dark moments. It also never has events take place over five actual nights.
  • O.C. Stand-in: The grand majority of characters used in the fic have very little characterization in canon (and some don't have any), leading to quite a lot of creative freedom to make up personalities and such. Endo 01, Endo 02 and Mangle's second head are prime examples as they are main characters in the fic while they have rarely ever appeared in canon and had no characterization whatsoever.
  • One-Steve Limit: Despite there being multiple Freddy animatronics named Freddy, only one is ever known as such. The others have nicknames such as Teddy (Toy Freddy), Fred (Funtime Freddy) and so on.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Balloon Boy, Balloon Girl and Freddybear are called "B.B.", "J.J." and "Goldie" more than their actual names.
  • Physical Scars, Psychological Scars: All of the Animatronics and ghosts bear the makers of their history both physically across their bodies, suits and skeletons and in their minds which have been irreparably scarred from Purple Guy's murders and such tragedies.
  • Outdated by Canon: Given the AU's age (10 years as of 2024), there's bound to be quite a lot of outdated ideas and plot points as detailed in The Artifact below. Several of these old plot points are often blended into the canon lore however, such as Marionette being possessed by both a mother (specifically Charlie's mother) and Charlotte "Charlie" Emily and the M.C.I. being referred to with their canon names (except for the gender-flipped Gabriel who is "Gabriela" instead) as well as the names the fic made up for them prior to the reveals of their canon names.
  • Robot Hair: All animatronics feature this, even the endoskeletons. However the type of hair and how much hair they have varies from animatronic to animatronic. Skeletons have more wires than proper hair and it's mostly just a fringe while The Toys have proper heads of semi-flexible molded plastic.
  • Scars Are Forever: Decades have passed since the restaurant franchise opened but every animatronic and ghost are still as scarred as the day the scars were inflicted. A very literal example with Foxy and Springtrap as both feature copious damage to their suits (Foxy has a hole in his chest and no lower legs and Springtrap is missing his left shoulder, parts of his feet and has a whole section of his leg missing too).
  • Secret Diary: The first oneshot Why I Care is about Endo 01 finding Endo 02's diary and discovering his yandere personality. When he's confronted by it, Endo 02 attempts to throw his brother off by pointing out that he used a quote from Yandere Simulator in his writing because he knew that Endo 01 had been trying to go through the diary for months and wanted to troll him.
  • Show Within a Show: The series features multiple shows and franchises in its universe.
    • Fredbear & Friends was a children's TV show that aired in the late 50s but underwent multiple hiatuses due to the murders.
    • Toytime Tunes was a children's cartoon that aired in the mid-80s that was cancelled soon after.
  • Sibling Rivalry: The Nightmares towards their Toy counterparts, both sides despising each other. The only Nightmare/Toy combos to avert this are Foxy & Mangle and Endo 01 & Endo 02.
  • Small Towns: The series takes place in Salado, TX, a town of about 2,800 people.
  • The Artifact: As stated in Outdated by Canon above, there are a lot of old remnants from the history of the games and the fandom that persist within the fic.
    • Foxy's running speed being the incredibly quick 13.7m per second is taken from an old Smike video discussing Foxy.
    • Foxy's green eye is the result of the author misremembering Foxy's eye color in FNaF 2. Marionette's left arm being blue and pink is because of her FNaF 2 jumpscare showing the left arm being those colors.
    • Freddy being possessed by a girl here is based on the theory that he was before it was confirmed that a boy was possessing him.
    • Funtime Foxy is female and known as "Roxy" instead of the later-confirmed male.
    • Golden Freddy and Fredbear are separate characters here due to Fredbear not being known about when the A.U. was first developed.
    • Mangle is the perpetrator of the Bite of 1987 and the 1983 incident is a fatal head-crushing by Fredbear.
    • Miketrap being canon is based on the brief Miketrap craze after the Sister Location ending was found showing William Afton as Springtrap. Despite being clearly non-canon, the author kept it as it gave Springtrap depth.
    • The Animatronics' having the ability to teleport is based on very old descriptions of Bonnie's moveset which described him as essentially teleporting from camera to camera.
    • The ghosts having different names is because they were named years before FNaF 6 was released. They do however have their canon names with the A.U. ones being relegated to amnesiac-identity names of sorts.
    • The reasons that the ghosts had been murdered with a knife as well as what happened to George was because of the music video for It's Been So Long by The Living Tombstone.
  • Vague Age:
    • The animatronics all possess four counters to count their ages due to there being multiple different ages they have:
      • Chronological: when they were built and maybe put in service. Years used: 1956, 1961, 1970, 1986, 1990, 1995.
      • Sentient: when they gained full sentience and in a way, came to life. Years used: 1956, 1963, 1987, 1995.
    • Mental: the age they act and/or were programmed to be. A number of years is listed instead of a specific date year.
      • General: a decided number applied to many characters, usually the date that their game takes place or for the golden animals, when the franchise began. This age number is a shorthand year used for everyday affairs and to avoid overcomplicating things. Years used: 1956 (Fredbear, Springtrap, Goldie, Plushtrap), 1987 (Teddy, Toby, T.C., Mangle, B.B., J.J., Marionette, Endo 02), 1990 (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, Endo 01), 1995 (Mendo, Lolbit, Endoplush).
    • Any dead characters have 2 age counters since they stop aging at death.
      • Real Age (how old they are from their birth year to now).
      • Death Age (how old they were when they died and how old they are physically and mentally)
  • Weapon Specialization: All animatronics featured in the series have at least one weapon each of which they are scarily proficient with them.
