Branwen
is an Alternate Universe fanfiction title by Seeker-Pendragon about Raven Branwen becoming Jaune Arc's mother after his family is butchered by Grimm. Seeker has done a good job of capturing Raven's personality, and how that would affect Jaune's personality and world view. Plus, under Raven's care and training, Jaune Arc (aka Jaune Branwen) becomes quite the force of nature. It is 13 chapters long currently.
Branwen provides examples of:
- Absurdly Sharp Blade: What Jaune's sword Crocea Mors was before Raven got her hands on it. It has only gotten even sharper thanks to Raven's modifications; it can now slice through practically anything. Raven's red Katana also qualifies.
- Action Mom: Oh hell yes. Raven is one of the most dangerous huntresses in Remnant, and she is widely feared and respected. She is also a committed and loving mother to Jaune.
- Adaptational Badass: Jaune Arc, known in this timeline as Jaune Branwen.
- Badass Family: The Branwen/Rose family. Taiyang, Qrow and Raven were or still are Elite Huntsmen/Huntresses. And the Kids? Ruby is a hyperactive scythe-wielding speedster and Friendly Sniper, Yang is a Straight-up Amazonian Beauty and brawler with a hot temper, and Jaune is calm, collected, and knows at least 10 different ways to kill you before you even hit the ground. Jaune's birth family was also this before they were wiped out.
- Black Knight/The Dragon: The end result after The Witch was done with Joan Arc. Joan went on to slaughter many in service to the witch, including all 4 maidens. When she died, her family continued serving as The Witch's enforcers and second hand.
- Bully Hunter: Raven and Jaune, very much so, the former during her time in Beacon as a student, and now her son as well 15-20 years later. Raven straight up hated bullies, while Jaune loathes them because in his mind they sully the reputation of Huntsmen/Huntswomen everywhere with their cruel actions.
- Crazy-Prepared: Raven modified Jaune's weapon because she knows of Grimm with armor so tough and thick that even Crocea Mors would have a hard time cutting into it, so she increased it's cutting power, thus preventing Jaune from ever having to face that problem.
- Death by Origin Story: Jaune's entire family was slaughtered by Grimm when he was only an infant before Raven found him.
- Death Glare: Raven has a downright horrifying one; it is so bad it made a young Neo pee herself! Jaune seems to have adopted it as well.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Jaune has done this to Cardin Winchester twice: once as a child for trying to take his ice cream, and the second time at Beacon for picking on Velvet; specifically, Jaune broke Cardin's arm and leg not just for bullying her, but also for sullying the reputation of Huntsmen in doing so. Raven also did this when she was a student at Beacon.
- Doomed Hometown: The village where Jaune's family lived was razed by a massive Grimm attack. No one but Jaune survived.
- The Dreaded: Raven, by a country mile. She is infamous throughout Remnant for her combat prowess and merciless nature to Huntsman, civilian and criminal alike. Criminals are so afraid of her in fact, that a crook being questioned by Qrow died of a heart attack at the mention of her name! And even Qrow himself, her brother and elite Huntsman in his own right, admits to fearing her, much to her disappointment. The only people who don't fear her are her son, Ozpin, Glynda Goodwitch, Summer Rose before her death, and possibly in time, Blake Belladonna and Pyrrha Nikos.
- Female Gaze: Coco couldn't stop staring at Jaune's ass on and off their whole date, even comparing it to Fox and Velvet's.
- Happily Adopted: Jaune by Raven. They may not be blood-related, but Raven considers him her son and a Branwen, regardless of his blood relations.
- Knight in Shining Armor: What Jaune's distant Ancestor Joan was before being corrupted by The Witch.
- Knight in Sour Armor: Raven is very much this. She is well aware she can't save everyone, and therefore will ignore a situation even she believes she could not handle it, but she still continues fighting because she wants the world to be a better place. Jaune as well, as taught to him by Raven herself.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Currently, only Ozpin, Glynda, Raven, and Qrow are privy to Jaune's true family and heritage. Jaune has absolutely no idea he's an Arc, and Raven would prefer it stay that way.
- Mama Bear: Oh good god yes! Raven wouldn't hesitate to cut down anyone who threatens Jaune, and is willing to take on The Witch to save him from his family's dark legacy.
- Missing Mom: Raven to Yang. Raven left after Taiyang, Yang's dad, disappointed her with his "weak will", and also believes Yang inherited her father's weakness.
- Overprotective Mom: Raven has a nasty tendency to scare away any of her son's potential female friends/suitors. In her mind, if they fear her, they are not good enough for Jaune.
- Parrot Exposition: In Chapter 11, Metal Gear is mentioned as an in-universe book series. Naturally, Blake repeats the title in question form the first time she hears it.
- Sole Survivor/Last of His Kind: Jaune is not only the only survivor of his razed village, but the last surviving member of the Arc family as well, not that he is aware of it.
- Vibro Weapon: What Raven turned Crocea Mors into. As a High-Frequency blade, not only is it even more one-of-a-kind, but can now cut through even the most durable metals and Grimm armour.
- Yandere: Hilariously Raven is falling into this regarding her son, even considering coming out of her hiding spot and cleaving Coco in half with her Katana! She still considers murdering Coco her second option.
