Deadbeats

    Logan

Logan Horn

Played by: JesseCox

Race: Elf (Urban)
Class: Rogue (Inquisitive)

A once renowned detective whose career took a significant downward spiral after the supposed conclusion of the Facade killings. When rumors of another Facade killing pop up, Logan is spurred into hunting down the killer, consequences be damned.

  • Defective Detective: At the start of Deadbeats, Logan is definitely this. While still a sharp detective, Logan's personal life takes a huge toll, and his abrasive attitude and caginess don't help either. He gets better.
  • Determinator: Nothing will stop Logan from taking Facade down.
  • Hardboiled Detective: Intentionally designed to fit into the archetype. Cynical, persistent, sour, and insightful, Logan hits most of the beats.
  • Jerkass: Condescending and cagey to his party, and not much better to anyone else.
    • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Eventually softens up as he grows closer to the party. While still aloof, he has more moments of kindness and genuine heart to hearts with other party members.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: The murder of Logan's son at Facade's hands is what motivates him to take down the killer at all costs. The death still haunts him greatly.
  • Poor Communication Kills: One of Logan's big problems in Season 1 is his staunch refusal to let anyone in on crucial information, such as Dash and Keres's upcoming firing and their acting against the law. Part of it is his lack of trust in others, and part of it is him believing that the others wouldn't help if they knew the truth of the situation.
  • Sour Outside, Sad Inside: Logan is prickly and rude most of the time, but most of his issues stem from the huge amount of guilt he feels at having lost his son.
  • Team Dad: Takes on a fatherly and authoritative role in the party, especially toward Dash, who he guides and gives advice to.

    Dash

Dash Whiskers

Played by: Dodger

Race: Human (Alabhastar)
Class: Paladin (Oathbreaker)

An idealistic and naive rookie cop with a big heart.

  • Dumb Muscle: Dash is not the brightest, often struggling with assisting investigating, but he's very capable of taking and dealing damage in combat.
  • Nice Guy: Generally the kindest member of the team, with an open heart to anyone.

    Keres

Keres Creed/Ayla Fern

Played by: MasaeAnela

Race: Human (Journeyman, Qethos)
Class: Monk (Way of the Spirtualist, formerly Way of the Astral Self)

A protective agent of the Xiros Defense Force. While she seems responsible and well-meaning, she has a past as a brutal cop known as "The Butcher".

    Hellebore

Doctor Piper Orientalis Hellebore

Played by: SummerSalt

Race: Human (Southern Ishtar)
Class: Wizard (Necromancy)

The problem child of the esteemed Hellebore family, Piper's intellect is often overlooked in favor of his ethically dubious antics. After a failed experiment and the reconstruction of his body, Piper's behavior has become increasingly erratic, as if its not quite Piper who was brought back.

    Eli

Eliphet Price

Played by: Snake

Race: Human (Southern Ishtar)
Class: Artificer (Battle Smith)

An artificer who got a life sentence from arms dealing, a crime he denies having done.

    Victor

Victor Valentin von Cicero

Played by: JoeFudge

Race: Dhampir
Class: Warlock (Undead)

An enigmatic aristocrat locked away by the XDF as a criminal consultant. Under heavy surveillance, he has been allowed to leave for the first time in decades, and he is ready to drink in the new world.

  • Dirty Coward: He says so himself.
  • Explosive Leash: Victor in particular is kept in check by one, being considered particularly dangerous by Logan. It's eventually removed as a show of trust.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Turns on the rest of the party near the end of Season 2.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: Victor has been in the confines of prison for decades, and relishes the opportunity to escape.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Likes to fuck with other people, both to serve his interests and for shits and giggles.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Victor has been alive for a very long time. An old, haunted mansion the party comes across is revealed to be his former residence from before he was locked away.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Easily the least moral and most self-serving member of the group. Victor has no issue in manipulating people and acting purely in his own self-interest.

    Buddy

Buddy

Played by: JoeFudge

Race: Cavis (Starborn)
Class: Barbarian (Path of the Beast)

A bounty hunter whose gruff attitude contrasts with his cute appearance.

    Deadbeats NPCs

Pinchy

An alien warrior with a grudge against Ganymede.

  • Enemy Mine: Allies with the Deadbeats to take out the Ganymedeans, but is aligned with the warlike Chi, who don't have much better designs for Io.
  • Proud Warrior Race Guy: Very much ticks all the boxes. Powerful, proud of his Chi heritage, and has a tendency to demean others for their weakness.

Pipe Dreamers

    Beau

Beau R. G.

Played by: LaynaLazar

Race: Raccling (Lotorite)
Class: Druid (Circle of Mutations, formerly Faewunder)

A rambunctious scavenger with a larger than life personality.

  • Butt-Monkey: Has a bad combination of poor luck and a lack of foresight that tends to bite him in the ass often, not to mention his mutations. Eventually deconstructed when the Bomb takes concern with the party's lack of reaction to Beau's misfortunes, even when situations are deadly.
  • Cuddle Bug: Enjoys hugs and receiving "uppies" from other party members.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Beau is impulsive and lacks foresight, often leading to danger for himself and trouble with the law.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Tends to accidentally charge into danger, often getting him a beating. Downplayed later in the series as both Beau and his player pick up more experience and awareness.
  • Love Freak: He perks up whenever romance is a possibility, and gets interest in a love triangle between Felsic, Zugg, and D'rask. He is mentioned to be writing fanfiction of them in his off time.
  • My Brain Is Big: His brain ends up grotesquely expanding after prolonged exposure to radiation. He tends to cover it with a flat cap until he learns to repress the effect.
  • Radiation-Immune Mutants: Eventually learns to suppress his radiation through his Circle of Mutations.
  • Rascally Raccoon: Prone to mischief and curiosity, and a raccling.
  • Rubber Man: One of Beau's mutations. The effect is quite disturbing.
  • Smart People Speak the Queen's English: Inexplicably, Beau ends up getting a British accent upon receiving an intelligence increase from radiation. He ends up repressing it with the rest of Beau's mutations.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Repeatedly tries to touch the Bomb after learning that he is acidic and radioactive.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Capable of turning into a variety of creatures, eventually culminating in his "A-Beau-mination" form.

    Felsic

Felsic

Played by: Juniper

Race: Human (Alabhastar)
Class: Barbarian (Path of the Totem Warrior)/Fighter

A former pit fighter with an interest in anything "primal".

  • Blood Knight: Loves a good fight, and eagerly takes on challenges if one presents itself. She finds fulfillment from both beating up things and being beat up herself, and tries to give others that fulfillment if they seem lost or despondent. Deconstructed when Felsic reveals that in the past she beat someone so badly she was expelled from school just because she was looking for a fight.
  • Dumb Muscle: Not to the same extent as D'rask, but still there. Felsic is not the most intelligent either academically or emotionally, but is an absolute powerhouse physically.
  • Extreme Doormat: Surprisingly easy to push around emotionally despite her great physical strength.
  • Masked Luchador: Used to wear an owlbear mask back in her wrestling days as "The Flex Enforcer". She dons it one more time when raiding her old workplace.
  • The Pig-Pen: Deeply enjoys garbage and getting dirty, and finds joy in the idea of getting covered in ashes from going down a chimney.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Hates fighting robots, both due to the lack of satisfaction of disposing of an unthinking, unfeeling combatant, and due to very negative experiences with Molder.

    D'rask

D'rask

Played by: ShaneHawke

Race: Orc (Bloodbath)
Class: Rogue (Swashbuckler)/Barbarian (Path of the Inferno)

A thug and criminal with a deep bond with his adopted brother, Zugg.

  • The Black Smith: Learning to forge weapons.
  • Blood Knight: Loves to scrap and is actively disappointed when an enemy is disposed without one.
  • Brains and Brawn: The Brawn to Zugg's Brains.
  • Dumb Muscle: Dumb as a bag of rocks but hits like a boulder. He's easily manipulated by Victor pretending to be his inner thoughts.
  • Eyepatch of Power: He's been in a lot of fights and wears an eyepatch to accentuate his toughness. His eye still works under it.
  • Unknown Rival: To Dash. D'rask harbors enmity towards him for accidentally removing his strength enhancing mutation. Humorously, Dash tends to misinterpret D'rasks's barbs and jabs as friendly concern and reassurance.
  • Wreathed in Flames: Part of his Path of the Inferno has him be partially on fire when entering a rage.

    Zugg

Zugg Datink'ur

Played by: Lawlman

Race: Orc (Scrapyard)
Class: Artificer (Artillerist)

A scrapyard artificer with a dream of creating a fully functioning spacecraft.

  • Brains and Brawn: The Brains to D'rask's Brawn.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Comes with the territory of being an artificer. Most of Zugg's spells are flavored as inventions and he was the one to make D'rask's prosthetic hand.
  • Homemade Inventions: His specialty, given that he doesn't have the money to realistically make anything more expensive or high-end. Other inventors marvel at the fact that he was able to get the Ticket to fly with the junk that was used to make it.
  • MacGyvering: His gadgets are made of scrap and junk, but they work as well as any artificer's.
  • Only Sane Man: The only party member with both the knowledge and the responsibility to pilot the ship safely. Between D'rask, Felsic, Beau, and The Bomb, he tends to be the most common source of common sense. He starts to slide out of this role as the Bomb gains more awareness and worldliness.
  • The Smart Guy: Easily the most capable with academic knowledge and machinery.

    "The Bomb"

The Bomb

Played by: Tomato

Race: Changeling (Slime)
Class: Warlock (The Irradiated, previously Celestial)

A strange, slime-like being who came into existence as the result of an explosion which killed his predecessor.

  • Absurdly Youthful Father: Spawned Mito Buddy not too long after his own birth, and he was only born at the beginning of the series.
  • Atomic Superpower: The Bomb's biology is passively radioactive, and he can harness it into radiation blasts and his own kind of magic.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: Downplayed. The Bomb is constantly emitting radiation that is actively harmful and mutative to the people around him. While he is somewhat amoral and willing to use others to his own benefit, the Bomb is far from being a scumbag.
  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Subverted, the Bomb is strange even among Ganymedeans due to his origin as a radiation pumped mutant. His body is acidic to the touch, and acts more like a liquid than a solid when it comes to fitting through cracks.
  • Blob Monster: His body consists of goop and a few eyes, and he dissolves anything that stays within him too long.
  • Compelling Voice: Suggestion, one of his spells, which he occasionally uses to have work done for him or to get quick cash.
  • My Species Doth Protest Too Much: So far, both as a member of Hecaton's collective hive mind and Ganymede as a whole, he's the only one with no harmful designs for Io. His main aims are just the protection of his 'band of nitwits'.
  • Nuclear Mutant: The Bomb was born from a being composed of liquified Ganymedeans that were pumped with radiation. He inherents a lot of that biology.
  • Parental Neglect: While he's fond of Mito, The Bomb is fully aware of his child's expendableness, and will sometimes test the danger of something with his child rather than risk himself. That said, he does draw the line at putting down a Mito that is inconvenient to the party.
  • Really Was Born Yesterday: Begins his existence at the start of the campaign.
  • Wise Beyond Their Years: Picks up on things incredibly quickly for his age, although this may be just another factor of his biology. He's essentially a semi-functioninal adult by Season 2 despite being less than a month old.

    Pipe Dreamers NPCs

Mitosis Buddy

The Bomb's "child".

  • Butt-Monkey: Get exploded, frozen to death in the void of space, and vaporized.
  • Death Is Cheap: He always comes back from whatever horrible demise he experiences in the previous day.
  • Death of a Child: Played for Laughs. Mito's many demises are a source of comedy, both in how traumatized The Bomb gets at the first few and how brutally he tends to gets merc'd.
  • One Character, Multiple Lives: Mito dies at the end of each day and comes back at the start of a new one, often very different based on the random traits he rolls.

Curious Curios

    Kyuubi

Kyuubi Wano

Played by: Supershigi

Race: Machi
Class: Rogue (Arcane Trickster)

A young farmer who used to live with her grandparents.

  • Child Soldiers: Was raised to be an assassin and infiltration specialist by a corrupt gnomish facility.
  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Kyuubi is strange at the best of times. She makes odd analogies to life back on the farm, even if they have little to do with the current situation. She also seemed to believe force-feeding a centaur sugar would make up for wounding and belittling them.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Tends to have trouble recognizing humanoids with animalistic features as sentient beings, instead viewing them as straight up animals, and treating them as such.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Kyuubi is slowly revealed to be unhinged, as she gleefully murders her enemies without hesitation, often giving little taunts as she finishes them off. She also has a great interest in weaponry and deadly alchemy. A lot of this is explained by her past of being molded into an assassin at a young age.
  • Winged Humanoid: Has a pair of butterfly wings on her back, although she doesn't seem able to fly. Justified, as they aren't a natural part of her body and were grafted on to her.

    Gloria

Gloria Gladeblossom

Played by: Sherlock Hulmes

Race: Half-Lagomon
Class: Paladin (Oath of the Scholar)

A clumsy young woman who works to learn and preserve the history of Northern Ishtar.

  • Apologises a Lot: Tends to apologize about her own awkard nature.
  • Bespectacled Cutie: She wears glasses, and Vidalia and Pandora would attest to the cute part. Subverted after she enters Faewunder, as she no longer needs them.
  • Cowardly Lion: Though she's very timid and anxious, Gloria always steps up during combat to take blows and protect her friends. Justified, as it's not the danger of monsters that scares her, it's people.
  • Magic Knight: Uses a unique blend of arcane knowledge and martial training.
  • Nervous Wreck: Gloria is in a near constant state of worry and anxiety. Fortunately, she gets better over the course of the season.
  • The Smart Guy: The most classically intelligent member of the party, and the one with the most academic knowledge.
  • Socially Awkward Hero: Gloria is a very awkward young woman, and stumbles over her words a lot when speaking. She is also quite sweet and heroic.

    Vidalia

Vidalia Marigold

Played by: Kelli_Siren

Race: Dhampir
Class: Ranger (Swarmkeeper)

A well-to-do gentlewoman whose mannerisms disguise her nature as a dhampir.

  • Nice Girl: Very quick to reassure and compliment her friends, and regularly lends an ear to their issues.
  • Parasol of Pain: Her parasol doubles as a firearm.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Wears a *full ballgown* while adventuring and fighting.
  • Southern Belle: Her appearance and voice are evocative of the classic proper Southern woman.
  • The Tease: Seems to enjoy flirting with and teasing Pandora and Gloria, although she does seem sincere in her affections.

    Kagami

Kagami

Played by: SciFriTV

Race: Changeling (Illusive)
Class: Monk (Kensei)

An experienced wanderer skilled in bow, blade, and fist.

    Pandora

Pandora Amberoise

Played by: Kooly Smiley

Race: Elf (Rift)
Class: Bard (Valor)

A confidant woman who became a vampire hunter after being jilted by her ex-girlfriend by a vampire.

  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: On the surface, Pandora is an posturing braggart, but she quickly reveals to not have nearly as much self esteem as she presents.

    Ribeye

Ribeye

Played by: Tom Fawkes

Race: Undead (Skeleton Mage)
Class: Bard (Glamour)

A skeletal chef looking to expand his horizons (and his palette).

  • Deaf Composer: Ribeye is incapable of digesting or consuming anything as a result of his undead biology, but he's a very capable chef regardless.
  • Friendly Skeleton: He's chipper and kind to most everyone he meets, while also being completely skeletal.
  • Vague Hit Points: As a part of his undead existence, Ribeye's hit points aren't known or visible to the party. Brett will give descriptions of how he's doing, but no exact numbers are given until he's downed.
