Dog
Voiced by: H.D. Quinn
- All Drummers Are Animals: Although the entire cast are animals, Dog is quite feral and ends up with the drums in the episode "Dancing Dog."
- The Speechless: Being a non-anthropomorphic animal, he is one of the only characters in the series who does not speak.
- Vibrant Orange: A fun-loving orange canine.
Duck
Voiced by: H.D. Quinn
- Aesop Amnesia: He is prone to forgetting facts he learned in previous episodes.
- Character Catchphrase: "Yah and hoo!"
- Deadpan Snarker: He wisecracks often.
- Keet: He is noisy and full of energy.
- Kid-Appeal Character: He is yellow, energetic, and is learning his letters.
- Noisy Duck: He has No Indoor Voice and quacks in the middle of sentences.
- Odd Friendship: With Frog.
- Quacking Up: He's probably the youngest of the main cast. He is often naive and careless in his actions, but he loves to have fun and crack jokes. He acts as an Audience Surrogate to the young viewers, as he is still learning his letters.
Frog
Voiced by: Daryl Ekroth
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Duck. They are polar opposites and often get on each other's nerves, but they're still close friends.
- Homage: Daryl Ekroth's vocal performance appears to be inspired by Kermit the Frog.
- The Smart Guy: He is often the brainiac of the friends, but sometimes he's a Know-Nothing Know-It-All.
- Straight Man: He tries to be the sensible one compared to the likes of Duck and Pig, but he too has his own quirks.
Pig
Voiced by: George Bailey
- Berserk Button: Pig tends to get upset when his stuff is messed with, as Frog learned in the episode "Waterlogged".
- Big Eater: He loves to eat. Ant has to control him whenever he indulges too much.
- Chaste Toons: He has three nephews.
- Gluttonous Pig: Pig is a chef who hosts his own cooking show, but he also likes eating everything in sight. He is working on sharing, though.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: He is very close with Ant, and their relationship is the core of several episodes.
- Sweet Tooth: He likes eating anything really, but especially cake and pie.
- Team Chef: He's the baker of the bunch, and hosts his own cooking show.
Ant
Voiced by: H.D. Quinn
- Amicable Ants: Ant is one of the many Word Friends of the titular setting. He is best buddies with Pig and with other insect Word Friends like Bee, Fly and Bug, and is always willing to help out the other Word Friends in a pinch.
- Height Angst: There are rare occasions where he feels sad about his small size. In the Feud Episode "Shuffleword", Pig exploits this by calling Ant "short" as an insult, and he gets turned into GIant in "There's an Ant in Every Giant."
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Pig.
- Out of Focus: Despite being a main character, he does not have as much screen time as the others. In fact, Shark and Bug have more screen time than him.
- Shorter Means Smarter: Ant is unsurprisingly the smallest of his friends, yet he is one of the smartest people in Word World, as said by Pig.
- Straight Man: He helps keep Pig's appetite in check.
- Strong Ants: He is renowned for his strength.
Bear
Voiced by: Mirm Kriegel
- Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: She stands out by wearing a purple bow.
- Beary Friendly: She is an amiable ursine.
- Cool Board: Her purple and yellow skateboard is very cool-looking. Interestingly, it does not appear to be made of letters in the show, but it is made of letters in the merchandise.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Sheep.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Despite living in a cave, she is scared of the dark.
Sheep
Voiced by: Veronica Taylor
- Action Girl: Sheep can be seen as this when she's playing sports, as seen in the episodes "There's An Ant In Every Giant" and "Play Ball".
- Drama Queen: As befitting a theatre fanatic, Sheep often overreacts. Her first instinct when Pig is sneezing is to take him to the hospital.
- Girly Girl: She loves playing dress up.
- Sweet Sheep: She is helpful towards her friends when they need help sounding out words.
