• Accidental Innuendo: The word "Gorn" was mentioned while trying to make a corn for a party.
• Adaptation Displacement: Believe it or not, before this show premiered, Word World was a book series.
• Awesome Art: The animation is very colorful and expressive for 2007 standards.
• Friendly Fandoms: With Super Why! and WordGirl. Not only do these shows teach about words and share a channel, but they premiered on the same day.
• Ho Yay:
  • One episode centers on Sheep writing a love song to Bear for Valentine's Day.
  • The same episode centers on Frog helping Bug write his name on a Valentine. Turns out the Valentine is for Frog, and they hug for a very long time, gazing into one another's eyes.
• Memetic Mutation: "C-A-P. Cap!"^ExplanationA clip of Duck creating a cap (as in a thinking cap) is a viral reaction video to someone 'capping', which is internet slang for lying.
• Memetic Personality Change: Frog seems to be something of a Sex God within the fandom. Athena P posits Frog as having sexual tension with all the characters, having "rizz." His wiki page was once vandalized for it to say that he's into BDSM.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • If the WordFriends' words are debuilt, they might look like they're dead. Good thing that didn't happen, as this is a show for preschoolers.
  • In "There's an Ant in Every Giant", the process of Ant turning into Giant and back is a bit unsettling. The letters g-i get stuck onto his nose, and as they fuse, his body pulsates intensely. Worse, if you pause at just the wrong moment when he transforms back into Ant, there are a few frames where his face is missing from both the g and the a.
• Quirky Work: A preschooler cartoon that has Funny Animals where everything and everyone is made of the letters in their name, and new objects (and even new characters) can be created by just putting the appropriate letters next to each other. It's especially strange by PBS standards.
