VOCALOID2
SF-A2 mikinote
She is voiced by Furukawa Miki of Supercar, and designed/illustrated by Kozaki Yusuke (of Fire Emblem and No More Heroes fame)
- Action Girl: At least according to Lience, the appropriately titled Keep Yourself Alive and in Infinity Labyrinth made by Kurozumi-P.
- Animal Motifs: Her illustrator has her hoodie pulled up with bear-like ears and a puffball tail here. She's also been depicted with sheep thanks to that same hoodie and ear muffs which you can also see here and here.
- Artificial Human: According to the information that came from the 2012 redesign, miki was designed to look like she was made out of a inorganic material and was conceptualised as an android. She is covered in muscles made of various materials such as carbon nanotubes, but were made loose to give a mild deformed look about them. Averted for her V4 design however, which abandoned the concept.
- Cleavage Window: Her V4 redesign has two diamond-shaped ones, though there really isn't anything to show off.
- Idiot Hair: A HUGE one vaguely shaped like a question mark.
- Red Eyes, Take Warning: Inverted, since most of the songs she sings/appears in are cheerful and upbeat.
- Ridiculously Human Robots: Downplayed - she has robotic joints.
- Symbol Motif Clothing: She's generally associated with stars.
- Tsundere: This song portrays her as a type B.
- Updated Re-release: She received a V4 update with a Natural voicebank.
- Vague Age: Her body is designed to look like that of a child, but also gives her the overall look of approx 14 years old. Having an immature-looking body allowed more easily for her to be passed off as Younger than She Looks, similar to how Miku and Rin could do the same since they lacked mature looking bodies. See also Artificial Human above.
Kaai Yuki
Yuki is notable for being the first "child voice" Vocaloid released, meaning that her vocal samples are from a young girl instead of an adult. She is portrayed as a 9 year old elementary school student, and Hiyama Kiyoteru is her teacher. She is distributed by AH-Software and is the ninth (or tenth) Japanese Vocaloid.- Cheerful Child: Official artwork by AH-Software and many of her songs portray her as such. If she's not this, she'll be deadpan instead, as in inabakumori's works or in her most famous song "Kyofuu All Back".
- Creepy Child: Many of her early songs utilised her vocals for horror. "Calalini" and "Rugrats Theory" are two of the most infamous ones.
- Creepy Children Singing: Her voice can be used to such an effect, such as this version of "Rugrats Theory".
- Mascot: Though unofficial, she represents AH-Software's line of Vocaloid products.
- Token Mini-Moe: Noticeably, she's the youngest out of the AH-Software Vocaloids.
Hiyama Kiyoteru
Released by AH-Software (but not as a part of the "Vocal Artist" series) and the ninth (or tenth) Japanese Vocaloid, Kiyoteru is explicitly stated to be a math teacher. His student is Kaai Yuki. His voice provider is the Japanese singer Kiyoshi Hiyama. On weekends, he's the vocalist of a rock band named Ice Mountain with the stage name "Ice Mountain Teru".
Thanks to an official artbook released by AH Software (details in the Ice Mountain link), he has more official canon info than the other vocaloids.
- Friend to All Children: Again according to the artbook. Likely the main reason he's a school teacher.
- The Glasses Come Off: At first, fans speculate that while Kiyoteru is more mild-mannered and professional, he does have a bit of a wild side when he takes off his glasses... And then the official Ice Mountain booklet describes him as such, confirming the speculation. However, he can't keep them off for too long as it would result in eyestrain.
- Hot Teacher: Depends on the song, but generally nice looking.
- I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Plays this role in "Plastic Garden", where he lets Rin escape the garden with Len after he realizes that he kept her in a Gilded Cage.
- Memento MacGuffin: His glasses - a gift from his foster father.
- Parental Abandonment: He was raised by a foster father. Though, it appears that he is Happily Adopted.
- Perpetual Poverty: He donates a large chunk of his income to church, thus he's usually broke.
- Sexier Alter Ego: While Kiyoteru in public is pretty easy on the eyes, he's blatantly more good looking on stage◊.
- And if that wasn't enough for you, his V4 boxart for his Ice Mountain persona is even more◊ attractive.
- Stoic Spectacles: Subverted. Neither his Teru persona or his regular personality come off as stoic, though Teru edges towards it a bit.
Nekomura Iroha
Released by AH-Software (not in the Vocal Artist series) and the fourteenth Japanese one, she was created in conjunction with Sanrio for their Together with Hello Kitty! video game project. Thus, she was an established character before the Vocaloidification. Her character was created by illustrator okama. Her voice provider was initially unrevealed, but was eventually confirmed to be utaite singer Kyounosuke Yoshitate.
okama defines her as a "kittyler", or Hello Kitty fangirl.
- Animal Motifs: Cats.
- Arm Cannon: Her Dynamic-Phonon Busters, gigantic speakers that attach to her arms. They only spew sounds, but cannons nonetheless.
- Be Yourself: The aesop she learns in her backstory of how she became a Platinum Kitty.
- Fangirl: Of Hello Kitty.
- Girliness Upgrade: Compare the above image and the boxart for her V4 package.
- Meaningful Name: "Iroha" is the Japanese equivalent of "ABC" and "Nekomura" means "cat village".
- Ridiculously Human Robots: Downplayed - She has speakers for her hands. Although they may just be gloves, as other official Hello Kitty artwork shows her with normal hands.
- The speakers are shown to be separate flying entities in her V4 artwork.
- Recycled with a Gimmick: Her voice database's development started together with Yuki and Kiyoteru's with no assigned character. When Sanrio offered AHS to take part in the "together with hello kitty" collaboration and proposed the design, AHS suggested using the database, to which Sanrio agreed.
- Sailor Fuku: She hates them.
- She Is All Grown Up: The design for her Soft voicebank shows an older and more mature Iroha.
- Updated Re-release: Received a V4 update with "Natural" and "Soft" versions of the voicebank. Her Soft voicebank allows her to sing slower songs better than her original voicebank.
- Vocal Dissonance: Hotly contested, as some believe it doesn't fit her design while others believe it's just tomboyish.
- Her voice provider being revealed to be male gives this trope some credence.
- Some producers are able to subvert this stereotype either by raising her voice (with good tuning) like in Banton Summer Sky, or by making her sing opera like this amazing rendition of Ave Maria (potentially giving the classic style Vocaloids like Prima and Miriam a run for their money).
VOCALOID3
Yuzuki Yukari
AH Software's first VOCALOID3, Yukari was made in a collaboration with multiple Vocaloid song producers. Released on December 22nd, she has a smooth sounding deep voice. She was also the first vocaloid to be released with the Voiceroid software, where users could have her speak normally.
Her gray bracelet, located on her right, arm says, "She unites you all with her voice." Seen here◊.
She is voiced by Chihiro Ishiguro.
- Alliterative Name: Yuzuki Yukari.
- Animal-Eared Headband: More like Animal-eared Hoodie, but it's still there.
- Animal Motifs: Rabbits. Her hood has bunny ears on it. Plus, the "zuki" in her name means moon.
- Brainwashed and Crazy: May be this in the girl locked below given that she calls her kidnapper “Master”, has Mind-Control Eyes, and attacks people on his behalf.
- Chainsaw Good: Goodbye Chainsaw. Title says it all. Never before have purple bunnies looked so badass.
- Cosmic Motifs: Yukari's theme and design is inspired by the moon, especially Moon Rabbit mythos (which also ties into her Animal Motifs).
- Curtains Match the Window
- Hot for Teacher: In "Check Check One Two!", she details being so in love with her teacher, that she secretly records his deep voice and splices the soundbites together to make otome-style confession tracks with his vocals for her own listening pleasure. She gets so paranoid about him giving his attention to another student that she plays one of the tapes over the speaker system.
- The Stool Pigeon: In "Chururira Chururira Daddadda!" where she tattles on the other students to get them removed from the class so that she will be the only one left. Toward the end of the song, she decides to tattle on the teacher to get them removed as well.
- Updated Re-release: She was updated for V4, receiving three voicebanks known as "Onn", "Lin" and "Jun". Her Onn voicebank is whispery, while her Lin voicebank is more powerful, and her Jun voicebank is the closest to her original voice.
Tohoku Zunko
A female Vocaloid released in June 2012 for the VOCALOID3 engine. She was originally created as a mascot of a relief campaign in the Tohoku region following an earthquake and tsunami that devastated the region on March 11, 2011, later released as a Voiceroid. After enough donations were received, AH Software gave the go signal to turn her into a fully fledged Vocaloid.
She is voiced by Satomi Sato, known for voicing Ritsu Tainaka from K-On!.
- Anthropomorphic Personification: Non-Vocaloid advertising pegs her as one for the Tohoku region.
- Meaningful Name: She was named after the Tohoku region of Japan. Her first name is derived from "zundo", from zundo mochi.
- Trademark Favourite Food: Zunda mochi, a type of mochi with sweetened green soybean paste. It is a local specialty in the Tohoku region.
- Her special ability, “Zunda Arrow”, also transforms any kinds of mochi into zunda-mochi.
VOCALOID4
Kizuna Akari
The first original vocal for VOCALOID4, as well as the first female for the engine. Like her predecessor Yukari, her voicebank was developed alongside a companion Voiceroid package, though her Voiceroid version was put on market first. She was released on April 26, 2018. She is voiced by Madoka Yonezawa.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: Occasionally portrayed as one to Yukari, best seen in "Akari is Here".
- Cosmic Motifs: As a contrast to her counterpart, Yukari, who is based on the moon, Akari's concept is instead based on starlight. This is also reflected in elements of her design (such as the orange-colored motif being inspired by the shining light from stars, according to Word of God).
- Expy: Of Yukari. Illustrator Juu Ayakura intentionally snuck in some references to Yukari's to keep with their theming.
- Hidden Buxom: Her jacket hides a fairly sizable bust.
- Older Than They Look: She's officially 15 years old, but looks as if she's about 11 or 12 years old.
- Significant Birth Date: She's born on December 22, the same day her Voiceroid package was released. This also happens to be the same day Yukari was released for both Voiceroid+ and VOCALOID3 in 2011.
- Stellar Theme Naming: The "na" in Kizuna is the kanji for "star". Her first name, Akari, also means "light" (as in starlight).
VOCALOID5
Haruno Sora
The first third-party Vocaloid to be released for the VOCALOID5 engine, released along with her Voiceroid package on July 27, 2018. Her voice banks are split into "Natural" and "Power" vocals, giving her the ability to sing both soft-style and power ballads. Kikuko Inoue provides her samples, allowing for a low, but pleasing sound.
- Girly Girl with a Tomboy Streak: Her usual personality is gentle and her outfit incorporates a lot of roses and frills, but her "Power" design shows she can pull off the handsome musketeer look well.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Among other colors, her strawberry blonde locks match perfectly with her kind heart.
- Mythology Gag: She's 17 years old, referencing her voice provider's "eternally 17" persona.
- Parental Substitute: The Endlessly-Praising Ms. Haruno Sora shows her as a mentor throughout fellow Voiceroid Maki's school years, constantly encouraging and supporting her in her dream to become a guitarist. The bridge even shows Sora remembering the pair at a gravestone, implying she's doing her best to be there in place of one or both of Maki's parents.
- Swashbuckler: Likely isn't one herself, but her Cool design gives off the aura of this aesthetic.
