    Montgomery Darke

Montgomery Darke

Played By: Clancy Brown

The ancient and mysterious curator of the Raven's End Mortuary.

  • Ambiguously Evil: He definitely has an evil vibe to him, although he certainly seems to take pleasure in the wrongdoers in the stories he tells getting their comeuppance. How much of this is a sense of justice or mere sadistic pleasure at another's suffering is unclear. He also tells Charlotte that he was once very much like her.
  • Collector of the Strange: He owns a library containing the stories of every person who has ever had their funeral performed in the mortuary. He says that what we see of the library is only the tip of an iceberg of books.
  • Cool Old Guy: He seems like a pretty chill (if chilling) guy to be around. He's friendly to children, even though they're scared of him, has a dry sense of humour and is happy to have an audience for his stories.
  • Dark Is Evil / Dark Is Not Evil: Dresses in black and is Ambiguously Evil. It's also in his name.
  • Deadpan Snarker: "Creepo. Huh. Haven't had that one before."
  • Evil Sounds Deep: His evil may be ambiguous but the depth of his voice certainly isn't, played as he is by Clancy Brown.
  • Evil Laugh: Lets out one of these as Charlotte/Sam is Devoured by the Horde.
  • Friend to All Children: When a boy with a camera knocks on his front door at the start, he opens the door, doesn't seem to have any intentions of harming the boy in any respect and just greets him "Hello, child." It's still insanely creepy and the boy understandably runs away. He's also saddened to preside over the funeral of a child who died under horrific circumstances and seems understandably repulsed by the Tooth Fairy's murders, to the point of taking visible pleasure as she is torn apart by the ghouls of her victims.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Resembles an incredibly aged human being, is seemingly an immortal undead and bleeds embalming fluid.
  • Karma Houdini Warranty: One possible explanation for his painful death upon leaving the mortuary, depending on how evil he actually was.
  • Large Ham: Has a deep, ominous voice, talks in a slow, deliberate, at times William Shatner like manner, has an evil laugh and inadvertently bursts into a hammy speech about immortality whilst presiding over the funeral of a deceased child.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: Montgomery Darke. He says it's an old family name.
  • Oh, Crap!: Has this reaction when he realises he's about to explode.
  • Perpetual Frowner: His wrinkled brow is set into a perpetual furrowed frown.
  • Puff of Logic: After taking whatever it is he needs from Charlotte's carcass that he thinks will enable him to go outside, it turns out not to work because he has not set a few steps from the front door into the light of day when he spontaneously combusts.
  • Shout-Out: As a menacing, impossibly ancient human man with a bald head, it's possible that his first name is one to Monty Burns.
    • He also bears an uncanny resemblance to the Tall Man. Perhaps they were roommates in college.

    Sam

Sam / Charlotte Gibbons, the Boggy Bay Tooth Fairy

Played By: Caitlin Custer

A pretty girl who turns up at the Raven's End Mortuary answering to a job advert. It quickly becomes clear that she's there for more than just that and she becomes very interested in the stories contained within the mortuary, which Montgomery Darke is only too happy to tell her.

  • Above Good and Evil: Seems to think of herself as this. Being a Serial Killer, she has no problem deciding how other people's stories end, but she angrily tells Darke that she alone decides how her story ends.
  • Action Girl: Despite her slight frame, she puts up one heck of a fight against the stranger who breaks into the Kubler home. But she ends up subverting this because she's actually a Dark Action Girl. She's the stranger who broke in the the Kubler home, and the man she's fighting is the real babysitter.
  • Alone with the Psycho: While she's babysitting Logan Kubler, a mysterious stranger breaks into the house soon after a homicidal maniac is reported to have escaped from the local asylum. She's the homicidal maniac. He's the real babysitter.
  • Babysitter from Hell: Masquerades as a babysitter, is actually a cannibalistic, serial murderer of children.
  • Badass Boast: "I decide how my story ends!"
  • Badass Bookworm: Despite the impressive size of her attacker in proportion to her slender physique, she puts up a fierce fight against the intruder and ultimately wins. She's also shown reading Logan a bedtime story and takes great interest in the books in Montgomery's library.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She's a beautiful, eager-to-help young woman who is secretly a cannibalistic serial murderer of children.
  • Big Bad: She killed Logan Kubler, setting in motion the events of the main story.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Is quick to point out the predictability and implausibilities of Darke's stories. He's notably needled.
  • Decoy Protagonist: It seems she's come to the mortuary to find closure over the gruesome murder of little Logan Kubler. It turns out, she's the one who killed him. She's just there to take a tooth from his remains as her trophy.
  • Devoured by the Horde: Turns out that the books in the library don't just contain the stories of the dead people who were laid to rest there but their souls as well, as the spirits of all the children Charlotte has tortured and devoured crawl out of their volumes to tear her apart.
  • Eats Babies: Again, she's a cannibalistic serial murderer of children.
  • Evil Laugh: Whilst talking to a small boy who has come to the mortuary, she lets out one after announcing it's time for dinner, just before the ending credits roll.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: She's a very attractive young woman and (all together now), a cannibalistic serial murderer of children.
  • Faux Affably Evil: She comes across as very sweet, reading a bedtime story to Logan who clearly likes and trusts her, seems like a Friend to All Children and seems to want justice for Logan. Actually, she's the one who killed, cooked and partially ate him.
  • Karmic Death: Is devoured by the ghosts of the children she killed and ate.
  • Karma Houdini: Is resurrected and becomes the new mistress of the Raven's Hill Mortuary, with every intention on continuing her ritualistic pattern of murder.
  • Psychotic Smirk: Gives one of these having proudly admitted that she is the Tooth Fairy Killer.
  • Serial Killer: Has escaped from a local mental institution having been incarcerated for murdering and eating numerous children, taking a tooth from each of them as a memento.
  • Shout-Out: Due to her habit of taking a tooth from her victims, she is known as the Tooth Fairy.
  • Smug Smiler: Lets out a wickedly proud smirk after revealing that she is the Boggy Bay Tooth Fairy.
  • The Sociopath: As Axe-Crazy as she is, she's perfectly compus mentus, fully in control and aware of her her actions and the consequences of them and seems to commit her heinous crimes for nothing more than sport. She's also intelligent, charming, charismatic and with signs of grandiosity.
  • Walking Spoiler: You probably saw less blanks than this in Rose's section in the Get Out (2017) article, didn't you!
  • Wicked Cultured: She's bookish, well-read, intelligent and one more time, a cannibalistic, serial murderer of children.
