The Necromancers and allies

    In General
  • Necromancer: All of them are these either racially or by skill with the exception of Ethel and Dominique who use mana crystals to emulate the ability.

    Diego Valentine

Diego Valentine

Voiced by: Shintarō Asanuma (Japanese), Ian Sinclair (English)
A psychopathic Necromancer, Diego is known for his manipulative nature towards both demons and Necromancers.
  • Back from the Dead: He was supposedly killed by lower ranked demons after being weakened by Touka, but since the lower ranked demons ate his flesh, he was somehow able to revive himself by taking over one of their bodies.
  • Blood Magic: He uses his own blood to create barriers as well as to control any severed limbs
  • Domestic Abuse: Declares Adele as his woman, and she seems to have some affection for him as well. This doesn't stop him from regularly beating her over perceived slights and ultimately absorbing her into Beltex
  • Odd Friendship: Despite their contrasting personalities and believes, his friendship with Fried is truly genuine and became the reason why he joined the main cast in stopping Larkvlad due to realizing that without Fried fighting and killing people is no fun anynmore.
  • Readings Are Off the Scale: When viewed through a mana crystal that gauges relative mana levels, he appears as a vaguely humanoid mass of light within even more light. Anri explains that the one to ten scale only applies to normal humans, supernatural beings such as Necromancers and Demons can go well beyond. Diego himself has a mana level of forty.
  • Seers: Possess a mana crystal of clairvoyance, allowing him to see anywhere he wishes to better control things through remote necromancy.
  • Tears of Blood: All of the initial Necromancers introduced have some sort of constantly flowing body fluid, and in his case it's a constant stream of bloody tears.

    Friedrich Norshteyn

Friedrich "Fried" Norshteyn

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/friedrich_visual_1.png
Voiced by: Kensho Ono (Japanese), Ben Stegmair (English)
Friedrich is one of the leaders of the Necromancers and Anri's older brother. Unlike Diego, Friedrich has a great distaste for killing unnecessarily.
  • Affectionate Nickname: It turns out that "Snot Boss" is, which was shown when before joining him Diego just called him by his normal name.
  • Big Brother Mentor: He was one for Anri.
  • Character Death: He ends up dying in the battle against Larkvlad due to losing using too much mana.
  • Grand Theft Me: Upon his death, his body is used by Diego who transferred his own mana crystal into it.

    Diana Filion

Diana Filion

A yandere Necromancer and seductress, Diana is considered one of the most unhinged Necromancers and overall, the most powerful. She uses her ample bosom to turn foes into stone.
  • Hunter of His Own Kind: Diana sides with the humans against both her fellow Necromancers and the nobility (who are Necromancers too) out of her love for Touka
  • Love at First Punch: Well "Love at first stripping, followed by petrification in a humiliating pose.". Ever since she recovered she has been utterly charmed by Touka's "benevolence, generosity, and kindness". Taking her "first time", being defeated, helped too.
  • Ms. Fanservice: She lives and breathes on this trope: wears bondage gear, gorgeous body, and filtratious personality.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Stating that Touka took "her first time" in front of Yuna immediately gets her to briefly turn on him, not knowing that she's talking about "her first time being defeated".
  • Power-Upgrading Deformation: She treats the full use of Neuremphia like this and tries to avoid it. Sprouting tentacles from her back is apparently fine, but summoning the full form of Neuremphia is just unsightly. Maria and Meria's fused state is the first person seen to drive her into using it.
  • Sixth Ranger: She joins Touka and his friends halfway through the manga and by the time of Land of the Gods arc, she also joins in finding Shion's soul which was found in the Gods' realm.
  • Taken for Granite: This is her primary method of attacking. While using her mana crystal anyone who ends up looking at her breasts will find that in place of nipples are massive eyes and themselves turned to stone quickly after. This ability is turned on her twice, once by Touka managing to take her crystal and again by Yuvel's counter attack magic. She recovers from both, thanks to Ethel and Thera respectively.
  • Vain Sorceress: She is by far the most willing to show off her body, and can easily be swayed into things, such as trading away Psychalias for Neuremphia, by appealing to her allegedly unmatched level of power.
  • Yandere: She's unhinged and unashamedly murderous even after she becomes Touka's ally.
  • World's Strongest Woman: Or rather Necromancer in her case since her mana level is 80 which is the highest level of the Necromancers. By the time of Land of the Gods she gets surpassed by Anri but she's still powerful anyway.

    Kyuden Algren

Kyuden Algren

An extremely sickly Necromancer and an ally of Diana; she's a dainty, girly girl.
  • Functional Genre Savvy: Upon being told that she's getting Neuremphia, whose ability is to produce tentacles, she immediately imagines being stuck barely dressed, surrounded by tentacles, and being treated like a pervert. She immediately convinces Diana that Neuremphia is beyond her mana capacity to control and that, as the strongest, only Diana would be able to handle it. Diana buys it and trades Psychalias for it, becoming known as both the most powerful and most perverted Necromancer in the process.
  • Girlish Pigtails: She has some courtesy of Dominique, who recognized her as a cute girl beyond her mask.
  • Lady Looks Like a Dude: Due to her garb she appears to be a young boy, but by removing her cloak it's readily apparent that she's a beautiful girl.

    Victor Josef

Victor Josef

A gimpish Necromancer who always wears a hood, Victor is a sadistic Necromancer with a childlike behavior who specializes in combining corpses and teleportation.
  • Psychotic Manchild: He is one of the most jovial yet sadistic member of the necromancers.

    Ethel Borgnine

Ethel Borgnine

Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara (Japanese), Caitlin Glass (English)
A master trapper, a thief and a fugitive, Ethel taught the orphaned Touka the art of trapping and deception while en-route to Elbania after the war between Farom and Allard. After seeing firsthand the hell gate, she decided to side with the Necromancers.
  • Conspicuous Gloves: She is always wearing a pair of arm length gloves. When she wears them into a bath Kyle asks about it, but her explanation is cut short when she realizes it's Kyle soaking next to her in the women's bath and launches him out through the roof.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She is seen on the very first page of the manga, seeming to be just any other looter and implied to be killed off for being right at Hell's Gate when it opens. She turns up again at the end of chapter 38, being noted to seem familiar and chapter 40 outright tells the reader to go back to chapter 1 if they don't remember her.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Similarly to Kyle, Ethel's only in it for herself working equally with Touka and the Necromancers whenever either situation suits her.
  • Informed Attractiveness: Much like Yuna, Ethel gets the attention of Kyle due to her attractiveness, Kyle being an extremely egocentric person to begin with, who doesn't dispense praise without reason.
  • Hidden Depths: Ethel is a fundamentally sweet and kind person, regardless of how she portrays herself.
  • Not So Stoic: She has always been proud of Touka and loves him more than what she cares to admit. She's always caught off-guard by the fact that to Touka, it doesn't matter how much she betrays him, he'll always be there for her.
  • The Real Heroes: Both Ethel and Touka are directly responsible for the fact that the inhabitants of the city of Elbania weren't completely annihilated, in spite of Shion getting all of the credit.
  • Red Right Hand: This is the reason for her long gloves never coming off. She has the original Demon Lord's left arm grafted onto her body. At a touch she can temporarily render someone incapable of using magic.
  • Teacher/Student Romance: After traveling with Touka for a while and teaching him to fight and make traps, she begins to enjoy having him around as he's the first person in a long time who's been interested in her as a woman rather than a bounty and tries to convince him that he should just stay with her as Yuna and Milly would likely have moved on. Touka being Touka ruins the moment by pretending to get caught in a deadly trap to bait her out of a bath to slip kneesocks on her.
  • Trap Master: While less prone to relying on them than Touka is, she's still able to make many deadly traps. She was also the one to teach him how to make them in the first place.
  • Tsundere: A minor one towards Touka compared to other female characters. Ethel is given to deny her own love and affection towards him.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Touka has a tendency to bring out the best out of Ethel, as he's readily aware that she loves him more than any commitment that she has to her own selfish plans. The fact that this is brought to her attention makes her love him even more in turn.

    Dominique Rin

Dominique Rin

A former member of the Kingdom of Farom's Magic Warriors, Dominique is the sole survivor of the Corps' failed attack on the Necromancers at Elbania. Margaret's former maid, she was recruited into the Magician Corps due to her high level of mana, but is forced to turn coat when the Corps are annihilated by the Necromancers.
  • Always Someone Better: Dominique is known due to her middling skills, being a relatively weak ally to the Magician Corps and later to the Necromancers.
  • Clothing Damage: Her uniform is halfway-destroyed during the battle against the Necromancers and is cropped under the breast area.
  • Don't Make Me Destroy You: She still harbors a massive respect and love towards Margaret and calls her a friend in spite of having learnt the secret of the Farom nobility.
  • Face–Heel Turn: She is forced to join the Necromancers by Friedrich, who doesn't want to kill her.
  • Girly Girl: Unlike her fellow Necromancer ladies (Kyuden, Diana and Ethel), she's the kind of girl who enjoys frills and fashion.
  • Hidden Depths: Dominique is a very sweet person and a doting friend, forming a friendly bond with Kyuden.
  • Important Haircut: She loses her hair to neck level due to an unexpected attack by a demon who turns out to be Diego.
  • Love Across Battlelines: She is visibly attracted to Fried, as he refused to kill her alongside the rest of the Magic Warriors. Fried also happens to be the only one of the Necromancers who treats her like a peer.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: The Necromancers tend to forget her presence from time to time.

Four Dukes

    In General
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: All of the dukes are shown to be very tough along with a strong healing ability, which can only be inhibited by the Holy Sword.
  • Posthumous Character: All of them were killed years before the story began, but their corpses are used by the necromancer's strongest members as their main weapon.

    Beltex

Beltex

A gigantic demon an one of the Four Demon Dukes slain by Shion. His corpse is now under Diego's necromantic control.
  • The Assimilator: Beltex's power is to absorb anything and is able to gain the abilities of those it consumes.

    Portaqueth

Portaqueth

One of the Four Dukes slain by Shion, who has the capacity of producing portals. His body is wielded by Friedrich.
  • Thinking Up Portals: Portaqueth's corpse can be used to produce portals leading to anywhere the user has seen. Friedrich took this as it was the obvious "leader" ability and has used it to move the group around, redirect incoming attacks, and simply displace entire groups of enemies.

    Neuremphia

Neuremphia

One of the Four Dukes slain by Shion, a squid-like demon with the capacity of summoning tentacles. His body is wielded by Diana after Kyuden refuses to wield it.
  • Combat Tentacles: Neuremphia has them, and using it as a mana crystal allows for the creation of such as well. The tentacles are capable of channeling whatever other magics their user may have access to.

    Psychalias

Psychalias

  • Teleportation: Psychalias supposedly provides the power of "instant teleportation". How exactly that differs from Portaqueth has not really been seen.

Demons

    Adele

Adele

  • Visionary Villain: wants to create a society were demons and humans coexist without wanton slaugther, that sounds all well and good until its revealed that her vision is basically that of making humans glorified livestock.
  • Zombie Apocalypse: Causes one in Moalan. While technically neither dead nor undead, the infected people spread their zombie-like state through bites and behave as zombies generally do. This is, however, only the first stage of her magic that transforms humans into demons.

    Rexboz

Rexboz

The guardian demon of the Arad Labyrinth surrounding the hell gate. Extremely sturdy and tenacious, Rexboz is an anthropophagic being who captures and stores its victims in large pools at the labyrinth.
  • Enemy Summoner: If necessary Rexboz's spheres can be altered into numerous "mini Rexboz" enabling them to fight as well, and does so when the Adventurer's Guild figures out the orbs can break by being struck with magic.
  • Gate Guardian: Rexboz is not technically a true demon, but merely a security system created by the dungeon formed around Hell's Gate.
  • Weaponized Teleportation: Rexboz is capable of creating numerous black spheres that teleport anything they touch to a holding area to later be devoured. When angered he opts to just teleport things directly into his stomach to be digested immediately.
