In general

  • Big Bad Duumvirate Larkvlad, Isaac, Naid, and Claudia are eventually revealed to be the true villains of the story, having long since taken over most of the world after killing the gods that ruled over it.
  • Morton's Fork: After Larkvlad and the others go public with the fact that they're Necromancers anyone who resists are killed and turned into zombies. Anyone who accepts being ruled by Necromancers "change sides too quickly and can't be trusted" and are killed and turned into zombies. Anyone who attempts to flee are "rebels and must be executed" and then turned into zombies.
  • The Reveal: It's eventually learned that Larkvlad, Isaac, Naid, and Claudia are the original Necromancers who have been ruling over the world ever since they killed the gods.
  • Walking Spoiler: Farom's leaders have a rather massive secret which changes the nature of the story quite drastically. Close the folder and read no further if you don't want the story spoiled.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: This is how they have sustained themselves for centuries. Like their demonic ancestors, Necromancers can consume souls to prolong their lives in place of mana.

    Larkvlad XIII

Larkvlad XIII

Voiced by: Taiten Kusunoki (Japanese), Ray Hurd (English)
The King of Farom and Margaret's father. An intimidating, hulking man, he inspires mistrust on Touka from the moment they met.
  • Broken Pedestal: He saved Thera from slavery as a child and raised her to be one of the Yonkishi. She's understandably horrified and dismayed when he reveals his true self to her.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: On the delivering end of one. Directly controlling just one zombie he assassinates Berhard and proceeds to completely crush Roselia's army, Thera's group, Milly's group, the Adventurer's Guild members, Yuna, and Kyle. Touka's group, immediately after returning through Hell's Gate, are greeted by the sight of a sea of corpses left tossed around, shredded, and impaled on various spikes far more gruesome than anything seen in Hell itself. It took all of Yuna and Kyle's strength to destroy just the one zombie. And then he took control of a small group of them, forcing Leonard to make a Heroic Sacrifice just so the few survivors left could run.
  • Evil Knockoff: He wields a dark copy of the Holy Sword. He claims that unlike the artificial Holy Swords his sword is a perfect copy that is every bit as powerful as the real thing.
  • Final Boss: He's the last opponent Touka faced in the story.
  • Multiversal Conqueror: His true goal. He wants to conquer the entire multiverse and become the strongest existence because he can't stand the idea of anything stronger than himself.
  • My Grandson, Myself: Every Larkvlad ruling Farom has been the same man.
  • Physical God: He is the most powerful Necromancer who has been steadily consuming souls for a thousand years. He boasts that his Mana level already surpasses that of the gods he killed long ago.
  • Victory Is Boring: Part of why he decided to reveal himself. After ruling unopposed for centuries after killing the gods, he's bored.

Margaret's personal master and member of the Kingdom of Farom's Royal Court. He is Margaret's martial instructor, who raised her to become the hero's bride. He is known for being personally overprotective of Margaret and due to his troubles with the law for wanton nudity.
  • The Atoner: By the end of the story, he becomes the caretaker of an orphanage alongside Margaret and is trying to make up for his sins by spending the rest of his life taking care of children alongside her. In the Realm of the Gods arc, he lets Margaret go on a jouney to retrieve Shion's soul alongside Touka and her friends which includes his fellow Necromancers Anri and Diana.
  • Broken Pedestal: Played with. He's revealed to be a huge one for Margaret. Especially she spies on him telling Claudia that he only raised Margaret out of boredom and because she's Claudia's intended future vessel. However, his early characterization was notable due to his profound fondness for Margaret, making his ultimate intentions ambiguous.
  • Eyepatch of Power: It hides the telltale red eye of a Necromancer.
  • Ninja Log: The man responsible for the Empty Exuvia technique, he has regularly been arrested for public nudity because of it.
  • Shipper on Deck: After allowing Margaret to go to the Gods' Realm, he tells her that the adventure is an opportunity to advance her romantic relationship with Touka.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Naid claims that Isaac's mana level is relatively low compared to the other Necromancers because he consumed very few human souls. Isaac's power is due to the skills he honed fighting for centuries.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: While Larkvlad is simply driven by an obsession with being the strongest being in existence since he's afraid of being weak, Isaac genuinely believes that humanity needs to become stronger to avoid being wiped out by extradimensional horrors again.

    Leland Tolman

Leland Tolman

Voiced by: Chikahiro Kobayashi (Japanese), Reagan Murdock (English)
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The man runs an orphanage, is a doctor, and completely willing to hide Anri's identity as a Necromancer. He's also a sadistic serial killer with a skeleton fetish and plans to use Anri by passing the blame for his crimes off on her.
  • Eyes Always Shut: He usually has his eyes close, hiding his true colors. Once his real Ax-Crazy personality was revealed, this trope gets subverted.
  • Forced into Evil: The reason he works for Larkvlad is because he believes rebelling against him is pointless due to his power.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: He's a sadistic serial killer who happens to wear glasses.
  • Necromancer: Not naturally but he is in possession of mana crystals that grant him their abilities.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: In his mind, if everyone is turned into reanimated skeletons than everyone is equal and there would be no suffering in the world. That everyone would be dead is just a mild momentary inconvenience to him, as he ignores the matter of the spirit and soul already being gone.

    Amelia Melia

Amelia Melia

Margaret's personal maid and body double.
  • Body Double: Originally just Margaret's personal maid, she takes up this role when Margaret join's Touka.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Her reasons for agreeing to be Margaret's double were not entirely pure, as she was expecting to be able to use the situation to get closer to Isaac. Unfortunately for her Isaac had already left to take over Leland's job at the orphanage.

    Lothal Charis

Lothal Charis / Naid Dananvayn

Lothal is puportedly the Court Magician of Farom, but in reality, he's only a zombie puppet of the Necromancer Naid Dananvayn, a demonic-looking individual
  • Actually a Doombot: Lothal is just a zombie controlled by Naid, and is promptly disposed off once he can show off his real form.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After Larkvlad turns on him for his defeat at Kyle's hands, Naid comes to worship Kyle as his new god.
  • Horned Humanoid: His demonic heritage is pronounced enough that he has horns on his head. This is likely why he used Lothal as a proxy since he couldn't pass for an ordinary human.

    Claudia Avelheid

Claudia Avelheid

The Prime Minister of Farom, she is an unhinged and cruel individual with a penchant for human sacrifice.
  • Child Eater: She only likes eating young souls.
  • Fate Worse than Death: She is petrified while still in the hideous demonic form she despises. Since her reincarnation magic only triggers upon death and petrification doesn't kill people, she's trapped in an ugly body forever.
  • Inferiority Superiority Complex: She hates the demonic appearance her bodies always mutate into. This is why she has a preference for stealing young and beautiful bodies.
  • Sadist: Her way of staving off the boredom of eternal life is torturing people to death in her private dungeon.
  • Taken for Granite: Ethel tricks Claudia into looking at one of Diana's petrifying eyes (which she replaced her missing arm with). Since petrification doesn't kill, Claudia's reincarnation magic isn't triggered, leaving her trapped.
  • Third Eye: She wears a mask to hide this sign of her demonic heritage.
  • Transformation of the Possessed: Her demonic blood is so strong that any body she possesses will immediately develop a Third Eye and eventually mutate into a monstrous demon.

    Gilford Vergilis

Gilford Vergilis

A Yonkishi of Farom known as "the Ice Sword", Gilford is loyal to the Farom Necromancers in spite of being human.
  • An Ice Person: Wields a sword imbued with powerful ice magic.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: It doesn't matter to him that Larkvlad is a soul-eating zombie making Necromancer. He swore his loyalty to him and that's that.

    Azelstein Ortrix

Azelstein Ortrix

A Yonkishi of Farom known as "the Fire Sword", Gilford is a towering individual who is loyal to the Farom Necromancers like Gilford is.

    Reven Knives

Reven Knives

A member of Farom's Magic Warriors, Revan was the commander of the expeditionary force that fell to the Necromancers.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: The only other named character among Farom's Magic Warriors besides Dominique. Revan's only purpose is to show off their "instant kill swords" giving Diego a chance to show that he can regenerate even from decapitation and utterly crush them by summoning Beltex. His body is later seen under Dominique's control.

    Ripley

Ripley

Nicola's best friend and a fellow witch, she was slain when the Four Dukes attacked the Magic Academy.

Moalan

    Todd Burns and Horse Bro

Todd Burns and Horse Bro

The mayor of Moalan and a ridiculously skilled and powerful horse.
  • Arms Dealer: This was Todd's occupation before he became mayor of Moalan.
  • Cool Horse: "Horse Bro" is able to effortlessly climb castle walls. And ends up doing exactly that to save the Mayor from Naid.
  • Dirty Coward: Mayor Burns does everything in his power to escape the Zombie Apocalypse at Moalan, viewing his citizens as nothing more than a source of wealth. It's only the promise of getting to see Margaret in naked kneesocks and the realization that his citizens were his real wealth, but mostly wanting to see Margaret in naked kneesocks, that drives him to find a way to save his town rather than abandon it.
  • Enlightened Self-Interest: He initially only became mayor to increase his own wealth. His first act as mayor was to develop many new facilities, which improved the lives of the townsfolk. This also turned him from someone hated due to his past as an Arms Dealer to a mayor beloved by his people.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": All of his citizens just call him Mayor. After being promoted from a Mayor to a Baron they quickly shift to Baron Mayor, and then just Mayor for short. By the time of the epilogue, he became prime minister, but is called "Super Mayor" much to his dismay.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: Not him, but rather his horse, Horse Bro. For no reason explained, the horse is strong enough to defeat a mid-ranked demon, deflect a sword attack from both Touka and Shion, and effortlessly scale castle walls through jumping despite not having any form of grip with his hooves.
    • In the final chapter (set after a three-year timeskip), Milly actually explains Horse Bro's origin, if partly: his grandmother wandered in from another world which was taken over by "unbelievably strong" horses.
  • Lethally Stupid: To demonstrate how impenetrable his saferoom is he fires off a cannon, immediately alerting all of the zombies of Moalan to his location. Anri is impressed, Touka is furious, and he immediately realizes he just doomed everyone when he's reminded the last set of "impenetrable" walls got breached just moments prior.
