Sonny
The protagonist of this tale. Sonny is an amnesiac young man who wakes up on a sinking ship... as a zombie.
In general
- Amazing Technicolor Population: He has green skin.
- Amnesiac Hero: He's missing his memories, likely as an effect of the reanimation process.
- Can't Drop the Hero: You can arrange the rest of your team as you like, but Sonny can never be removed from the party.
- Casting a Shadow: He can get shadow skills through the Psychological class in Sonny 2 and the Shadow strain in the reboot.
- The Hero: He's the one who the narrative focuses on.
- An Ice Person: He can get ice skills through the Hydraulic class in Sonny 2 and the Frost strain in the reboot. He also has some water abilities lumped in there, making him overlap with Making a Splash.
- Manual Leader, A.I. Party: You directly control Sonny's actions in battle, while the rest of the party is governed by the AI. You are able to give them general directions on how you want them to act in the status screen, though.
- Our Zombies Are Different: Other than the whole "back from the dead" thing and his vastly increased physical abilities, he's not much different from an ordinary human.
- Playing with Fire: He has a couple of stray fire skills in Sonny 1, and he can get fire skills through the Fire strain in the reboot.
- Poisonous Person: He can get poison/nature skills through the Biological class in Sonny 2 and the Nature strain in the reboot.
- Shock and Awe: He can get electric skills through the Psychological class in Sonny 2 and the Electric strain in the reboot.
In the original continuity

- Infinity +1 Sword: He gets an entire set of armor and a weapon at the end of Sonny 1, tailored to his specific class.
- Think Nothing of It: After liberating Hew, he gives a "don't mention it".
In the reboot continuity
- Adaptive Ability: He can evolve his abilities with random mutations as the fight goes on.
- Mutually Exclusive Power-Ups: His strains function this way. Dr. Herregods can upgrade him to possess two additional skillsets, but any more than that makes his body unstable.

Sonny's first and most trusted companion.
In general
- Boisterous Bruiser: Generally a rough and rowdy type of guy.
- Combat Medic: He is primarily a healer, but his damage output isn't beyond salvation.

In the original continuity

- In Sonny 1, he has to make do with the Paladin armor dropped by Galiant. Not that this is entirely a bad thing; that poison piercing boost comes in real handy.
- In Sonny 2, he gets Dr. Klima's armor. This is notable in that other than his starting gear, Klima's gear is the only class-locked gear in the whole game.
- Poisonous Person: He has the basic Zombie Poison attack in Sonny 1.
In the reboot continuity
- Adaptation Species Change: In the originals, he was an intelligent zombie like Sonny. In the reboot, he's a human war veteran.
- Handicapped Badass: He was crippled before the game's events, and now uses a suit of Powered Armor to walk and fight.
- Metaphorgotten: Causes this to happen to Zakk during the fight against Cpt. Vendara.Zakk: From you I sense a great flame, stranger!
Vendara: ...
Zakk: The path your flame consumes has been littered with obstacles that must be removed, not burnt! They are innocent! But your flame is too strong and will consume without prejudice!
Veradux: Yeah! And like, water hurts fire, right? So I'm gonna piss on your fire and uhh, it won't consume nothin'!
Zakk: ...not my choice of words. - Powered Armor: His prototype InfectAid suit lets him move and fight.

Legs, I like to call him. My faithful employee. A lovable idiot, really. Thinks he's doing some good. We get applications from all these pathetic veterans. Bunch of scroungers, if you ask me. 'Ooohh! I wanna help but my legs don't work! Waahh, Carbon, please help me!' Sure, have a free robot suit. Don't pay a penny for it. Sure. I'll just GIVE it away.
Doctor Herregods, as I LIVE and BREATHE! Or should I say... MISTER Herregods? Not really supposed to be calling yourself a Doctor when you've had your license revoked, right? A shame, really. Real potential here, folks. This Doc was a bright fella. He really was. But when it came to the crunch... he broke his teeth. Too focused on stopping the virus, when it's clear we gotta BRING it IN for a hug.
Kara, last of the comedy cowboys. And let me say... a real waste of a woman. Give me a girl who bathes in water, not blood. I mean, sheeesh. Leave the big boy stuff to the big boys, know what I mean? I get it though. Don't go thinkin' I don't get a woman's brain! You're stuck between your job and your heart, right? Awww. It's real cute. Very motherly.
Then there's the guy from the stone-age over there. Your name I forget. I guess it's not that important to me. Rack? Jack? Mack? I don't know. I've got a real easy, real clear perspective on people who come from wherever it is you come from. We ought to build a big old wall and keep you out in the cold. Your backwards way of life has gotta be snubbed out. It's a waste. You understand? A waste. - Villainous Breakdown: Suffers one after you beat his first form.
