Leadership

    Mei Terumi

Mei Terumi

The fifth and current Mizukage, rising to power after leading a resistance movement to oust Yagura.

  • Action Mom: Gives birth to her first child shortly before the Kage Summit and later acts as one of the Allied Shinobi Forces generals in the war.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In canon she wasn't introduced until the Kage Summit arc, here she shows up in the Kirigakure Civil War arc (which is set during the Time Skip).
  • Alien Hair: Her Sage Mode turns her hair into squid tentacles, which she can use in combat.
  • Ascended Extra: She acts as the Big Good for the Kirigakure Civil War arc and continues to serve as a major ally for Konoha afterwards.
  • Battle Couple: Eventually marries Zabuza. They even fight side by side to kill Kisame during the Fourth Ninja War.
  • Frontline General: Besides fighting herself in the Kiri-Invasion, she becomes this again as head of the third division during the Fourth Shinobi World War.
  • Klingon Promotion: Subverted. Her plan was to overthrow Yagura by defeating him in combat, but he's captured by Deidara (via the Trigger Phrase Obito had implanted in him) in the middle of the battle.
  • Magma Man: She has lava release like in canon, though here it has been standardized so that she actually produces lava instead of acidic mud.
  • More Deadly Than the Male: Between her and Zabuza, there's no doubt that she is definitely the strongest (which is saying a lot given that he's no slouch himself and the current leader of the Seven Swordsmen).
  • Rebel Leader: She was the head of the Kirigakure Liberation Movement.
  • Related in the Adaptation: To Kurotsuchi, as their mothers were cousins.
  • Super Mode: She undergoes Sage training under the squids after seeing how powerful it is while fighting alongside Naruto against Yagura.
  • The Tease: She loves to push Zabuza's buttons and flirt with him at every opportunity.
  • Tentacle Hair: After being taught Sage Mode by the squids, her red hair turns into long tentacles.
  • Toothy Bird: One of the animal characteristics that Mei's Sage Mode gives her is a set of sharp teeth, despite the fact that the animal she's turning into is a squid (which has a beak and radula).
  • Youngest Child Wins: She's the most powerful of her siblings and the only one to have inherited both their mother's Lava Release and their father's Boil Release. Justified, since her parents were specifically aiming for a kid that got both and kept having kids until one did.

Seven Swordsmen of the Mist

    Zabuza Momochi

Zabuza Momochi

A missing-nin turned mercenary after his failed coup on Kirigakure. He was part of the mercenary force the Uchihas hired for their coup, which also failed and ended in his capture. He became a Konoha ninja as a part of his parole, until Mei negotiated his return to Kiri, where he serves as the captain of the new Seven Swordsmen.

  • Action Dad: Ends up having a child with Mei while continuing to act as the leader of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Is first introduced while Naruto is still in the academy, working as a mercenary for the Uchiha clan.
  • Adaptational Heroism: He eventually becomes an ally of Konoha and loses his missing-nin status (being appointed as the Mizukage's second in command, no less).
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: He has made no secret that he wants to become Mizukage, and even duels Mei Terumi over it when she comes to seek his help. Later on, Mei leaves him in charge while she's out of the village, and all the paperwork makes him cry.
  • BFS: Kubikiribocho is almost as long as he is tall.
  • Boxed Crook: He's arrested by Konoha after the events of the Uchiha Insurrection and is forced to do missions for Jiraiya as part of his parole.
  • I Work Alone: In a story that has a greater focus on team combat than in canon, Zabuza stands out as someone who usually fights without anyone backing him up. He justifies this during the Fourth Ninja War by pointing out to his subordinates that the long reach of his sword makes him just as much of a danger to his allies as it does his enemies.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While gold might be a bit of a stretch, he cares for Haku a lot more than he'd be willing to admit out loud.
  • Number Two: He acts as Mei's second in command after she pays off his remained debts to Konoha.
  • Parental Substitute: For Haku, having raised him before they settled down in Konoha. Not that he'd be willing to admit it.
  • Put on a Bus: He's a recurring member of the supporting cast for most of the Part I era, but he moves back to Kirigakure after Mei buys his freedom.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He lives long past the events of the events of the Wave Mission (where he, quite ironically, is acting as Tazuna's bodyguard).
  • Tsundere: He tries really hard to be viewed as a heartless tough guy, but almost nobody who knows him buys it. Mei even calls him a tsundere to his face.

The rest of the Seven Swordsmen

Suigetsu Hozuki

The last member of the Hozuki clan. He currently wields the Sewing Needle.

Chojuro

A member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, and the wielder of Hiramekarei.

Ameyuri Ringo

A member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, and the current wielder of the Kiba Thunderswords.

Miyako Kiui

A member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, and the wielder of the Helmet Splitter. An idealistic blue haired young woman.

Kumori Nashi

A member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, and the wielder of the Splatter. He wears a black cloak and his face is always hidden behind an ANBU mask.

  • Edible Theme Naming: Like all Swordsmen of the Mist, his last name is based on produce (Nashi means "Pear").
  • The Gadfly: Mostly to Suigetsu.
  • Master of Illusion: He's really good with Genjutsu.
  • Original Character: Was created for this fic.
  • Pretty Boy: Just like Kakashi, beneath his mask, he's exceedingly handsome, with a well-groomed mustache and goatee. He specifically wears the mask so that the girls will gush more about his face when he takes it off.
  • The Voiceless: Subverted. Pretends to be this just to piss Suigetsu off.

    The Next Generation (Epilogue Spoilers)

Mei and Zabuza's children

The children of Mei and Zabuza.

  • Fan-Created Offspring: Their parents never met in canon.
  • Ironic Name: You would expect that a girl named Kasumi (Mist) would have inherited her mother's Boil Release. Instead, she got Lava Release.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: There are six of them. The only reason there aren't more of them is because Mei got tired with the constant pestering from her parents that she had her tubes tied after Haruka was born.
  • No Name Given: Half of the kids go unnamed.
  • Shout-Out Theme Naming: The eldest two and youngest kids are respectively named Kasumi, Satoshi, and Haruka (the Japanese names for Misty, Ash, and May from Pokémon).
  • Superpower Lottery: Satoshi and Haruka inherited both Boil Release and Lava Release from Mei.

The Blood Mist

    Yagura Karatachi and his family

Yagura Karatachi

The Fourth Mizukage, and the jinchuriki of Isobu, the Three Tailed Turtle.

  • Action Dad: He has an adult son and serves as Mizukage.
  • Back from the Dead: Naruto temporarily resurrects him into one of his Shadow Clones to aid during the final battle. Obito's sacrifice ends up making his resurrection permanent.
  • Battle Couple: He fights alongside his wife during the invasion of Kirigakure.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Obito has brainwashed him with Kotoamatsukami, similar to what he did in canon.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Exactly how he died in canon is never made clear, but given the fact that Akatsuki had to capture an unsealed Isobu, it definitely wasn't from having his tailed beast extracted.
  • Older Than They Look: When Naruto first sees Yagura, he is flabbergasted that the Mizukage is a child, and married to an older woman. Yagura darkly responds that he isn't a child.
  • Nepotism: He was planning on having Jinin offed the second he felt his son was strong enough to take his place as one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist.
  • Self-Imposed Exile: After being brought back to life, he decides to leave Kirigakure as penance for his actions when he was Mizukage, even though most of them were due to him being under mind control.
  • Trigger Phrase: Obito's brainwashing was designed to make him turn himself over peacefully when he heard the phrase "The time has come for the nine to become one."

Aiko Karatachi

Yagura's wife and mother of his son.

  • Action Mom: She has an adult son and is considered powerful enough to fight side by side with the Mizukage.
  • Battle Couple: She aids her husband when fighting against Mei and Naruto during the invasion of Kirigakure.
  • O.C. Stand-in: While Yagura is never shown to have a wife in canon, the fact that he has a grandson in Boruto implies that he must have had one at some point.
  • Self-Imposed Exile: She goes into exile at the end of the Fourth Ninja War so she can be with her husband.

Dagura Karatachi

Yagura's only son.

  • Animal Motif: Bats. He signed the bat summoning contract (even using a giant one as a mount) and uses sonic attacks.
  • Rhyme Theme Naming: His name follows the "agura" theme established by his father Yagura and (presumed) son Kagura.
  • O.C. Stand-in: Yagura is never stated to have any children, but the fact that Boruto introduces his grandson Kagura means he must have had at least one child.
  • Self-Imposed Exile: Subverted. He had planned on leaving Kirigakue after the Fourth Ninja War so he could catch up with his father, but he's convinced not to as he has just been appointed as a member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist (specifically, wielding Samehada).

Seven Swordsmen of the Blood Mist

Jinin Akebino

A member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist under Yagura. Wields the Helmet Splitter. He's the warden of the Crimson Citadel Prison.

  • My Country, Right or Wrong: He places his loyalty to Kirigakure first and foremost, regardless of who's running it and their morality.
  • Off with His Head!: How he meets his end once he's defeated (both during his initial death and when he's brought back as an Edo Tensei zombie).
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: This would have happened to him eventually once Dagura was strong enough to replace him (hence why Yagura assigned him to the Crimson Citadel instead of exiling or executing him), but he's killed in battle before it can happen.

Kushimaru Kuriarare

A member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist under Yagura. Wields the Sewing Needle.

Jinpachi Munashi

A member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist under Yagura. Wields the Splatter.
