Main Character

    Fighter
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fighter_68.jpg
The only thing a man can rely on in this war-torn world is his own power. That's why I'll keep on winning. I've got to.'
The main character of the game.

Other Characters

     Bahamut
Voiced by: None
The supreme dragon, standing with the gods themselves. the beauty of it's deep black frame overwhelms all else in creation.'

  • Ambiguously Evil: It is believed that his awakening signifies the end of times. That said, it's unknown if he's aware of the chaos his existence brings.
  • Dragons Are Divine: The Top God of the Rage of Bahamut setting who just happens to be an all-powerful dragon.
  • Expy: Of Bahamut from the Final Fantasy series.
  • Flat Character: Despite being the title character, his existence is shrouded in mystery and not much is known about him in this or, really, any work he appears in other than that he's more powerful than everyone else, that he's the God of both creation and destruction, and that he may or may not be evil. He isn't often given much characterization beyond this, if any.
  • Reused Character Design: His design has been recycled over several other Cygames series that have come after Rage of Bahamut. In the case of Granblue Fantasy, it's implied that the Bahamut of that world is the same as the one from this game.
  • Series Mascot: The biggest and possibly most consistent mascot for Cygames as a company. He's even in the company logo.
  • Time Abyss: His existence predates even the world itself. No one knows how or when it came into existence.
  • Top God: He is the top God of the Rage of Bahamut setting, beating out every other God introduced in the series. He can destroy worlds with the flap of his wings and recreate them anew. He is so powerful that it took Lucifer calling down all the main gods and warriors to band together to take him down and even then it was no easy task.

    Lucifer

Fallen Lucifer
Lucifer, the Voidwing
Arch Seraph Lucifer
Doom Lord Lucifer
Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai
The seraph from Heaven was jealous of the Light. He drew his blade against the Almighty and raised the flag of rebellion.'
A formerly evil fallen angel who now works with the protagonist to drive away darkness from Mystarsia.
  • Ambiguously Gay: He becomes obsessed with Fighter after they initially defeat him, with the other characters claiming is the first time he's been interested in anything, mirroring his profile which lacked "Likes" and "Dislikes".
  • Back from the Dead: He died three times in his original series of events and was revived every time; twice the first two times as time magic undid his death, and the third time after his Heroic Sacrifice had the heroes go back to save him.
  • Bad Ass Crew: As a fallen angel, he commanded Azazel, Egrigori, Xephon, and Samael as his subordinates. The fallen angel Mirin joins his ranks in an alternate timeline after they become friends.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Failing to save Miguel and the subsequent torture he endured at the hands of the Arbiter Mortis began his Start of Darkness, birthing the evil and nihilistic fallen angel the protagonist once met. The torture persists even then, as Arbiter Mortis cursed him to suffer eternally without being able to die.
  • BFS: Arch Seraph Lucifer uses three enormous Katana as weapons which he wields telekinetically. Lucifer's fallen angel versions are no slouches in that department either, particularly in his Voidwing form in which he wields two large swords.
  • Breakout Villain: He was one of the most popular characters to come out of Rage of Bahamut, so much so that he ascended to series mascot status and became a major player in both his home game and Granblue Fantasy. He's also in general a Recurring Element for Cygames, appearing in nearly every new Cygames' work.
  • Break the Cutie: One of the timelines the protagonist and company venture to have them find that Arbiter Mortis had already begun to punish Seraph Lucifer after his failure to save Miguel. The torment he endured caused him to ravage several towns, despondently proclaiming that life no longer has meaning.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: At least after his Heel Faceturn. He's still associated with darkness but is now on the side of good once again.
  • Decomposite Character: In Rage of Bahamut, Lucifer and Satan are different characters who have similar backstories, as in being cast out of heaven for their rebellion against the Gods, though they diverge into two different interpretations of the original figure, perhaps as a reference to the different interpretations of Satan in real life.
    • After his fall, Lucifer becomes the leader of the fallen angels while Satan becomes the king of hell after being cast out.
    • Lucifer retains the beauty he had as an archangel while Satan has a demonic appearance, looking closer to most common depictions of Satan. As well, there is no indication that Satan was an archangel before his fall, unlike Lucifer.
    • Once his backstory is explored, Lucifer is portrayed as a more sympathetic figure whose fate was unjust, while Satan is an unambiguously evil entity who wants to bring the world into a state of dullness For the Evulz.
  • Expy: Not him outside of his obviously being based on Lucifer from the bible or John Milton's Paradise Lost, but four different characters have been spawned from his original character design(s):
    • Starting with Lucifer from the now-defunct Knights of Glory. He looks like Arch Seraph Lucifer and has the same name, but he's a dragon. As well, unlike Rage of Bahamut Lucifer who we only encounter in the form of a young adult, Knights of Glory has two child-like forms before he turns into the young adult form we're familiar with. His eyes are also goldish-brown for some reason, with this inconsistency carrying over to Lucifer's appearance in Granblue Fantasy for several years before it was fixed around 2018, long after the Granblue Fantasy artists realized their mistake.
    • Lucifer from Granblue Fantasy. Starting as a summon with the appearance of Arch Seraph Lucifer and no set characterization outside of his summon description, the writers of the game eventually decided to make him a proper character to separate the original world of Rage of Bahamut from Granblue Fantasy's world, while still allowing Lucifer to serve as a representative for the original character. As such, his characterization and backstory are quite different.
    • There's also Lucio from Granblue Fantasy, a character originally introduced to be a Suspiciously Similar Substitute to the Rage of Bahamut-imported Lucifer summon as a playable unit before the proper incarnation of Lucifer was introduced 3 months later. His character was shrouded in mystery, leading some to believe that he was Rage of Bahamut Lucifer transported into the Granblue Fantasy world due to the similarities in their characterization and his servitude to a god-like figure. In the end, he also experienced Divergent Character Evolution, introducing his backstory, role, and a new form that divorced him from the original version of Lucifer entirely.
    • Lastly, there's Luciliusnote , an Astral researcher and the creator of Granblue Fantasy Lucifer. In the Granblue Fantasy setting, he simultaneously serves the role of Arbiter Mortis in that he used Lucifer for his own ideals and betrayed his trust, leading Lucifer to rebel against him and has the same world-ending goal as fallen Lucifer (though for different reasons) and has a design that looks quite similar to Voidwing Lucifer after his ressurection in Lucifer's body. Outside of these things, similarly to the above-listed expires, they're very different characters.
    • While never elaborated on, Ramiel from Dragalia Lost bears a slight resemblance to him and is an archangel-like dragon.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Once a dutiful Arch Seraph turned into a malicious fallen angel bent on destroying the world.
  • Fallen Angel: Originally an archangel and a Seraph, he was cast from the heavens after leading a rebellion against his gods, starting from Arbiter Mortis who betrayed his trust and cursed him to suffer eternally. To symbolize him formerly being an angel, he's always depicted with two black wings (or red in his Voidwing form) and four white ones. As well, he sports a pair of horns to further lean on his now being considered a demon.
  • Fate Worse than Death: As a punishment for his insolence and his attempts at rebelling against her, Arbiter Mortis cursed him to suffer eternally without being able to die. This ends up being the reason why he attempts to destroy the world in hopes that his life will be ended in the process.
  • Fighting Your God: Despite the loyalty he once had to Arbiter Mortis, he rightfully rebels against her after realizing her idea of justice is unfair and immoral. Unfortunately for him, he loses, and is both cursed and cast out of the heavenly realm for his efforts.
  • Freudian Excuse: The realization that he was used by his God, Arbiter Mortis, to kill hundreds of innocents, combined with the fact that he failed to save Miguel and the curse placed on him as a punishment for his rebellion that causes him to suffer for eternally without the relief of death are all factors in his turning into the Jerkass the players originally knew.
  • Good Is Not Soft: As a Seraph, he was perfectly willing to execute people for the sake of keeping peace and harmony in Mystarsia, even children if he was given sufficient evidence that they were dangerous. His card description adds onto this, as it begins by saying that he wants to bring prosperity and happiness to the humans and demons living in Mystarsia, but will show no mercy to anyone that disrupts harmony and order.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: He gains a pair of black wings between his four white ones after being cursed and cast from the heavenly realm. Lucifer the Voidwing trades the black wings for a pair of bright red ones instead.
  • Heel–Face Turn: After the protagonist and friends go through various ventures through time in order to prevent him from turning evil, he eventually returns to the side of good with Arbiter Mortis defeated and his curse of eternal torment finally lifted.
  • Holy Halo: Fallen Lucifer has one in his second form.
  • Horned Humanoid: After falling, he grows a pair of prominent red horns. They become smaller and black after his return to the good side.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: After falling, Lucifer's hair is depicted as blonde in his cards, official art and 4koma appearances. However, his Puchichara appearance makes his hair white, the same as his Arch Seraph and Doom Lord appearances.
  • Interspecies Friendship: In one of the timelines the protagonist and company ventures into, Lucifer befriended Mirin, a fallen angel and demon, while still being a proper archangel.
  • Jerkass: Before his Heel–Face Turn, he spent most of the time in his first two events verbally taunting the characters trying to prevent his scheme.
  • The Magnificent: "Arch Seraph Lucifer", "Lucifer the Voidwing", and "Doom Lord Lucifer".
  • Meaningful Name: His name means "light-bringer" and his Arch Seraph form is associated with Light. Not so much after his fall, however.
  • Mythology Gag: Arch Seraph Lucifer's Puchichara form makes a few small references to Granblue Fantasy Lucifer, such as his battle finish expression resembling Lucifer's default smiling expression and quite possibly his ability to control his Katana telekinetically.
  • Odd Friendship: With the fallen angel Mirin in the timeline that they meet and become friends in. She's a Genki Girl who has a fondness of touching peoples' butts while he was once a dutiful Seraph who was simply doing his job and reprimanded and disapproves of her sexual harassment of the other characters. As a fallen angel leader, their friendship persists and despite being one of the good fallen angels, she's willing to assist in ending the world in order to end Lucifer's suffering. In fact, in one of the event's endings, she's the one to do it.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: He rebelled against the gods due to not believing in Arbiter Mortis' idea of perfect justice, a justice of which is unfair and involves killing innocent people that she perceived made the world unharmonious. Even after returning to the side of good, his dislike for the gods persists.
  • Redemption Equals Death: His third and final death was a Heroic Sacrifice in order to save the world from being destroyed, the act itself signifying his finally regaining the goodness he once had as an archangel. He gets better.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: As a demon, he has reddish-purple eyes, replacing the blue ones he used to have, and he is a near world-destroying threat. After his redemption arc, his eyes are once again depicted as blue.
  • Satan Is Good: After his Heel–Face Turn, he is more of an Anti-Hero who helps protect Mystarsia from the shadows.
  • Unwitting Pawn: He was one to his former boss Arbiter Mortis, who used him as an executioner to carry out her ideal of justice and eliminate those who she felt made Mystarsia unharmonious. It's strongly implied that she framed and had him kill hundreds of innocent people before he finally caught on to her scheme and rebelled, with Miguel being the final straw.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: He was once a dutiful Seraph who served the god of Justice and Eternity Arbiter Mortis, carrying out her wish as a "messenger" (really, an executioner) to maintain peace and harmony in Mystarsia. After realizing he was a pawn in her plan to carry out her idea of unfair justice he rebelled against her. As a punishment for his disobedience, she cursed him to suffer eternally without being able to die to be relieved of his suffering and exiled him from the heavenly realm, bringing about the Lucifer the players interacted with prior to his Heel–Face Turn.
  • Winged Humanoid: As an archangel turned fallen angel, he is one, though the number of wings he has depends on the card. His original Fallen Lucifer card depicted him with two wings, then four, and then six in his final evolution. After this, he's always depicted with six wings. As well, in his original Arch Seraph form, he has six wings.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: As a Seraph, he would execute anyone his boss perceived as a danger to the world, even if they were a seemingly innocent child, though only if he was under the belief that they were dangerous.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: More like "Who wants to live forever while being forced to suffer eternally" in his case.
  • Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds: His desire to destroy the world was born out of the trauma he experienced from being able to save Miguel and the subsequent torture Arbiter Mortis put him through for defying her will. After placing a curse on his body to torture him eternally without ever being able to experience the relief of death, he attempted to destroy the world as a means of ending his suffering.
  • Worthy Opponent: The protagonists willingness to do anything to defeat him and save the world is what causes him to become interested in them. He even asks their name before leaving after being defeated and forced the retreat the first time.
  • Would Hurt a Child: As a Seraph, he was willing to kill a child in order to protect Mystarsia. Justified, in that he was tricked into believing that Miguel was using his ability to summon demons to kill and terrorize villagers due to Arbiter Mortis planting false evidence.

Dark Angel Olivia
Dark Sword Olivia
New World Olivia
Lost Dame Olivia
New Year Olivia
Voiced by: Maaya Sakamoto
Let us welcome our new brethren as they swoop down upon this world of chaos...Our clan's attack upon God is riding on the success of your battle!'
A proud fallen angel that aspires to create a new world.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: The protagonist's kindness and unwavering belief in her is what drives Olivia to change her ways.
  • Breakout Character: She was one of the most popular characters to come out of Rage of Bahamut, so much so that she was promoted to Series Mascot status and transferred over to several of Cygames' other games such as Granblue Fantasy and World Flipper.
  • Broken Angel: She's had her wings stripped from her before, though that didn't stop her from fighting. In fact, her not giving up allowed her to gain a new set of wings.
  • The Chosen One: She was chosen to be the "key" that opens the door to the new world.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Due to her hatred for humanity, she was quite cold to the protagonist during their first few interactions. She warms up to him over time due to the kindness he shows her until she officially joins the side of good.
  • Determinator: She persists in trying to defeat her enemies to shape a new world even after having her wings stripped from her back.
  • Fallen Angel: She's one of the many fallen angels the players are introduced to over the course of the series, though, unlike Lucifer, we've never seen her pre-fallen angel appearance.
  • Friendly Enemy: She becomes this to the protagonist before officially deciding to side with them.
  • Good Wings, Evil Wings: She has dark wings with a golden shimmer to them.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Once a rebellious fallen angel with a deep-seated hatred for humanity and the goal of creating a new world in which the gods are dead and humans are enslaved, she joins the side of good after being shown kindness and The Power of Friendship by the protagonist.
  • Hypocrite: According to her profile, one of her dislikes is "those that take away freedom", and yet one of her goals in creating a new world was enslaving humanity.
  • The Magnificent: Her original card title is "Dark Angel Olivia", a title that has carried over to her other Cygames appearances.
  • Ms. Fanservice: One of Olivia's first cards was her in a swimsuit.
  • Rage Against the Heavens: She was one of the many fallen angels that were rebelling against the gods. Her time with the protagonist changed her views for the better, however, and she now aligns herself with the side of good.
  • Winged Humanoid: She has one set of purple and gold wings.
     Arbiter Mortis

The God of Justice and Eternity
Voiced by: Sayaka Ohara
I am the true lord over justice and eternity. Of all in Heaven, none desires harmony in Rivenbrandt more so than I. It is to that end that my judgment is passed.'
The God of Justice and Eternity who Lucifer once served under in the heavenly realm. Absolute in her desire to bring peace to Mystarsia, she had Lucifer act as a "messenger" (In truth an executioner) for her will, executing anyone that she believed to be a threat to her perfect harmony.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: Of justice, down to being obsessed with the concept.
  • Big Bad: Of the event "Thou, who announces the end of Eternity".
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She wears an air of grace and professionalism that commands respect when she comes down to reprimand Lucifer for wavering in his duties. She drops this act fairly quickly when he pisses her off.
  • Face of an Angel, Mind of a Demon: A glowing winged deity that looked no less angelic than Lucifer did before his fall, behind her pristine appearance is a sociopath that puts her idea of justice above everything else and was willing to kill innocents that she perceived as threats to her perfect harmony in order to preserve it.
  • Fate Worse than Death: She inflicts this on Lucifer and Miguel, cursing their bodies to endure endless suffering while also being unable to die to escape their suffering.
  • God Is Evil: She's a ruthless God who wishes to preserve her corrupt idea of justice and harmony in Mystarsia eternally.
  • Karma Houdini: It's implied that she got away with all of her wrongdoings in the original timeline.
  • Killed Off for Real: She was destroyed by Mirin by the end of the event.
  • The Sociopath: All she cares about is preserving her idea of peace and harmony eternally and is willing to kill or punish anyone that stands in the way of that, including her former subordinate.
  • Top God: She's one of the many Gods in the heavenly realm and presides over Justice and Eternity. While her exact rank among the Gods is unknown, she must have been pretty high up to have Lucifer, a six-winged archangel and the Arch Seraphnote , directly under her command.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She frames Miguel, a young boy capable of summoning monsters, for murdering an entire village because she believed that his power could disrupt the peace of Mystaria if left unchecked. It's implied that she framed the other people Lucifer killed for similar reasons.
  • Winged Humanoid: She has one set of white wings.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Or "would send her subordinate to kill an innocent child that she framed for murder". She also ends up causing harm to Miguel herself in order to tempt Lucifer back to her side, as she holds him hostage and tortures him by placing a curse on his body so he'll suffer eternally without being able to die. She ends up killing Miguel anyway when Lucifer comes for him.
