Rebellion

Main Characters

    Anakin

Anakin Skywalker

The Chosen One known as "The Hero with No Fear". Other circumstances would have led him down the path of the Dark Side, but he instead finds himself defending the Jedi Temple on the day Order 66 is issued. Now a wanted criminal, he fights against the Empire while trying to protect his only daughter.
  • Abled in the Adaptation: Due to not falling to the Dark Side and not fighting Obi-Wan on Mustafar, Anakin not only has his organic limbs, but also isn't forced to constantly wear a life support suit to stay alive, although this ends up being downplayed when Specter cuts off one of his legs in Part 4.
  • Action Dad: He's one of the greatest and most active thorns in the Empire's side and is the father to two children.
  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: While he has a lot of failures that he hates himself for, it's still nowhere near as bad as his time as Darth Vader was in both Legends and canon, where he desperately wanted to die and believed that being Vader was the punishment he deserved for his actions because it was a Fate Worse than Death. Here, thanks to still having his friends and him raising Leia, he has more positive outlets and manages to let go of some of his self-loathing and selfishness over time.
  • Adaptational Heroism: As per Precipice's primary divergence, he never followed Mace to Palpatine's office. Because of this, he never has his final push to the Dark Side and ends up defending the Jedi Temple during the issuing of Order 66 rather than lead the attack.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Besides his lost arm from his first battle with Count Dooku, he also loses his left leg in his battle with Specter.
  • Bash Brothers: With Obi-Wan since they work together on missions. It's also a more literal case than most since they see each other as brothers in all but blood.
  • Broken Ace: One of, if not the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy, a former general in the Clone Wars who won countless battles and is touted as one of the best swordsman ever. To say that his failure to save anyone during the attack on the Jedi Temple has left him with a massive Guilt Complex would be putting it very lightly.
  • A Father to His Men: He was very close to the Clone Troopers under his command. Rex recalls times during the war when they'd all share stories of battle and goodwill amongst the troops, as well as times he'd fly into a rage to avenge his soldiers when they were slain.
  • Happily Married: Even with the Long-Distance Relationship in play, it's made clear that he and Padme still have a loving, happy marriage.
  • It's All About Me: While Order 66 has knocked a hefty chunk of his self-centeredness out of him, it still crops up from time-to-time. Thankfully, he grows out of this over the years.
  • Master Swordsman: He's an absolute master of Form V. In his battles with Sith Lords, he often has the upper hand in swordsmanship and only ever loses his advantage either from a distraction or when his opponent uses deception and cunning against him.
  • The McCoy: Between him, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan, he's this as he's most often emotional and impulsive. Even after years of tempering with his emotions, he's often the first to act in a situation.
  • Mercy Kill: How his killing of Specter is framed. Being trained by Palpatine is a horrid experience. Not to mention Anakin was fully aware that Specter was desperate for his master's approval and how he would never have achieved that in the first place.
  • One-Man Army: Comes with being one of the strongest Jedi imaginable. Rex remembers times during the war when he'd dive into an entire battalion of battle droids and wipe them all out by himself.
  • Papa Wolf: He's very protective of his daughter. When Infernalis made his presence know to them, he immediately moved to protect Leia and told her to run and find help, prioritizing her safety before anything else.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Anytime he struggles against a Sith Lord in the story, it's usually always due to external factors and circumstances.
    • In his fight with Specter, the revelation of the Sith's species (Togruta, much like Ahsoka) distracted him long enough for Specter to get a devastating hit in.
    • He was winning his first fight against Infernalis, but amidst the battle, the Sith stole the detonator for the bombs he planted and blew up the building they were in while making a hasty get away.

    Obi-Wan

Obi-Wan Kenobi

An acclaimed General of the Clone Wars and the master of Anakin Skywalker.
  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: He's still got a lot of terrible things in his life, but Anakin's fall to the Dark Side isn't one of them in this story. His overall personality is greatly contrasted by how he is presented in his live action show, where the combination of the Republic's fall, Order 66, and Anakin's Face–Heel Turn essentially broke him.
  • Ascended Extra: An interesting and rather downplayed case of this. While Obi-Wan was never a minor character in the series, he's much more involved with the Rebellion as opposed to becoming a reclusive hermit after the rise of the Empire, as his presence on Tatooine isn't strictly required all the time comparatively speaking.
  • Badass in Distress: In Chapter 11 of Part 4, he ends up getting pinned down by TIE fighters and manages to hold out long enough for Ahsoka to come to his rescue.
  • Bash Brothers: Typically with Anakin since they often go on missions together. Also a more literal case since they consider each other to be brothers in all but blood.
  • Cool Uncle: He's a doting uncle to Leia, who loves him as much as her father.
  • It Gets Easier: Something that he finds unnerving is that over time, it becomes less of a moral and mental struggle for him to kill the Clone Troopers he once fought alongside.
  • Master Swordsman: It's not shown as much as Anakin, but he is a master of Form III and was the one who trained Anakin, himself considered the greatest swordsman in the galaxy.
  • The Spock: Between him, Anakin, and Ahsoka, he's the most level-headed and precise, not letting his personal issues cloud his judgement.

    Rex

Captain Rex

The second-in-command under Anakin Skywalker and the Clone who led the attack on the Jedi Temple during Order 66. After meeting with Anakin years later, he seeks to atone for the atrocity he committed and helps to undermine the Empire.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Much like Ahsoka in this story, he played no role in the liberation of Mandalore and was instead on Coruscant when Order 66 was issued rather than on Ahsoka's Star Destroyer.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: In canon, when Order 66 was issued, Rex was able to get his chip removed before he killed any Jedi and was with Ahsoka when the orders came in. Here, he was on Coruscant and led the attack on the Jedi Temple, killing dozens of Jedi and younglings. The weight of what he did hits him hard, as he spends the next few years overwhelmed by guilt and PTSD.
  • The Atoner: After he led the attack on the Jedi Temple, he became wracked with guilt and seeks to atone for his past actions against the Jedi he served.
  • Badass Normal: Of the main characters who are active on the field, Rex stands out for being the only non-Force Sensitive and is capable of carrying his own weight with just his Clone Trooper training and experience fighting in the GAR.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: He ended up being controlled by his inhibitor chip during Order 66, which led to him leading the attack on the Jedi Temple and killing many innocents alongside his troops. He's able to overcome this post-attack by cutting it out when he regains enough control of himself.
  • Cool Uncle: He's one to Leia, who absolutely adores him.
  • Defector from Decadence: After coming to his senses following Order 66, Rex outright deserted from the reformed Army after being forced to kill Jedi, especially since said killings included children.
  • Guilt Complex: He has a massive one in regards to the attack on the Jedi Temple, which he still loathes himself for. This is despite the fact that, as Anakin points out, he wasn't in control of himself when it happened.
  • Manly Facial Hair: Over the years, he decides to grow his beard out, making him look tougher and more grizzled.
  • Plagued by Nightmares: After regaining his senses, Rex would often get them, presumably about his experience in Order 66. While in Part 3 he acts like they've stopped, Leia in Part 7 reveals that he's still plagued by them years later.
  • Scars Are Forever: He has a permanent scar located where he cut out his inhibitor chip, serving as a reminder of what he did on the night of Order 66.
  • Younger Than They Look: By the time he shows up in the story, he's less than a decade old, yet looks like a grown man due to the Rapid Aging he goes through as a clone. Eight years later, he looks like an old man, white facial hair and all.

    Ahsoka

Ahsoka Tano

Anakin's apprentice, who left the Jedi Order after her false accusation and the betrayal of Barris Offee. She and her master later reencounter when he and Rex were on a mission to infiltrate an Imperial base.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Due to the story being written long before future Star Wars materials regarding Ahsoka's post-Clone Wars life were released, her assistance in freeing Mandalore didn't happen here.
  • Big Damn Heroes: She swoops in on her ship to save Obi-Wan when he's being overwhelmed by TIE fighters in Chapter 11 of Part 4.
  • Cool Aunt: She becomes Leia's Honorary Aunt and the young Skywalker immediately finds her to be really cool.
  • Dual Wielding: She uses twin lightsabers, which come in handy for deflecting and cutting through multiple walkers. Serving as a Call-Forward to Rebels, her sabers are white.
  • The Kirk: Between her, Obi-Wan, and Anakin, she's this given that while impulsive at times, she still manages to think things through and is far more calm under pressure than her master.
  • The Mentor: While they all play a role in some way or another, Ahsoka is Leia's most active mentor figure in her Jedi training, to the point where Anakin considers her to be Leia's true master in this regard.
  • Older and Wiser: She's come a long way from her Padawan days, as she's now far more mature and less gun-ho than she was in the past. She's also much more calm and serves as a good source of advice to Leia in regards to keeping her temper in check.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: In one of the bonus content chapters, she trades her combat gear for a form-fitting and elegant dress.

Imperial Senate Allies

    Padme

Padme Amidala

The Senator of Naboo, the wife of Anakin, and the mother of Luke and Leia. She works tirelessly with her allies behind the scenes to establish the Rebel Alliance and restore the Galactic Republic to what it once was.
  • Corrupt Politician: Inverted. She's one of the few senators left in the Imperial Senate who strives to do what's right and is working tirelessly to oppose the Empire's cruelty.
  • Happily Married: Despite the Long-Distance Relationship, she and her husband still love each other very much.
  • Spared By Adaptation: She doesn't die of heartbreak and lives to continue aiding in the formation of the Rebel Alliance in this story.
  • Tears of Joy: Sheds happy tears when she, her husband, and Leia all reunite for the first time in ten years during the "Reunion" arc.

    Bail

Bail Organa

The Senator of Alderaan and a member of its royal family, as well as one of the main figureheads in establishing the Rebel Alliance.
  • Corrupt Politician: Inverted. Like Padme, he's one of the few morally upstanding and honest politicians left in the Senate, especially after the establishment of the Empire.
  • Happily Married: He and his wife, Breha, are shown to have a very loving marriage.
  • Honorary Uncle: Is seen as one by Luke, who often calls him "Uncle Bail". Later on, even Leia refers to him as an uncle.
  • The Mole: He helps provide Obi-Wan with secret information on the Empire's plans through his work in the Imperial Senate.

    Mothma

Mon Mothma

The Senator of Chandrila and a close friend of Padme and Bail, as well as one of the main founders of the Rebel Alliance.
  • Corrupt Politician: Like Padme and Bail, she's an inversion, being one of their closest allies and one of the few morally upstanding senators remaining in the Imperial Senate.
  • Fiery Redhead: Averted. She's got red hair, but she's very calm and patient.
  • Satellite Character: All of her characterization is related to Padme and Bail and not much else. This is furthered by Padme and Bail getting their own POV chapters throughout the story that establish their individual characters while Mothma only ever gets attention if it's in relation to them.

Galactic Empire

Imperial Family

    The Emperor

Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious

The former Chancellor of the Galactic Republic who became the Emperor of the galaxy after the execution of the Jedi Order in Order 66.
  • Abusive Parent: With Lavinia. To say that he's cruel with his daughter would be an understatement, as he subjects her to Training from Hell and is more likely to chastise his apprentices for being sloppy with their form while they're brutalizing her. It's also made clear that he sees her as nothing more than a tool.
  • Big Bad: The supreme Sith Lord that undid the Jedi Order and the Emperor of the galaxy, as well as the main threat the heroes must contend with for the Empire to fall.
  • The Corrupter: He is this to Anakin, but much to his disappointment, it ultimately doesn't work out and Anakin remains a staunch Light Sider.
  • Didn't See That Coming: His plan to corrupt Anakin to the Dark Side ends up falling apart because he didn't count on him simply not showing up during the office confrontation.
  • Didn't Think This Through: As noted above, Palpatine had way too much faith in the idea of Anakin intervening in his duel with Windu and never had any backup plans to counteract the possibility of him listening to Windu's orders. While he considers the loss as minimal in the long run due to completing the Sith Plan, he's still irritated that he's forced to recruit lesser talents and sire children of his own as Sith apprentices.
  • Evil Mentor: He was this to Anakin throughout his life, trying to corrupt and sway him to his side. He even thinks of Anakin as his "wayward apprentice". He's also this to his Sith apprentices and Lavinia as well.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: He's responsible for all the suffering plaguing the galaxy, but he's never directly confronted and instead his Sith Acolytes serve as the physical threats to be contended with.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: A big reason why the early Rebellion chooses to take a Long Game approach lies in this, as in addition to having an actual army to command, Palpatine is just too popular with the majority to just rebel despite the Rebellion's leaders having the knowledge that he purposely staged his rise to power and that he's a Sith.

    Lavinia

Princess Lavinia

Palpatine's daughter and the princess of the Galactic Empire, as well as one of Luke's closest friends.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She's technically on the side of the Sith due to being brought up as one, but she has a genuine friendship with Luke and actively tries to lie to her father about him so that he doesn't suspect his Force sensitivity.
  • Evil Redhead: Downplayed in that while she's a redhead and a villain, it's only of the Trapped in Villainy variety.
  • Original Character: A rather interesting take on this trope. While both Legends and the rebooted EU shows that Palpatine does have kid(s), none of them are female nor do they share similarities with her.
  • Trapped in Villainy: She was pretty much born and raised into the life of a Sith and has no way out of it.
  • Tyke Bomb: In an attempt to recoup the loss of Anakin, Palpatine is forced to sire a daughter and is raising her to be a potential apprentice and tool for his ambitions.

Sith Lords

    Specter

Darth Specter

The first apprentice of Sidious in his time as the Emperor. An unknown species who specializes in stealth, he seeks to please his master and will kill anyone he deems a threat to that goal, especially Anakin Skywalker.
  • Ambiguously Human: Invoked. Part of his fear factor is that it's impossible to tell what he even is underneath his Sith robes. Before their battle, Anakin suspects he's a type of horned sentient. After he unmasks him, it reveals that he's a Togruta.
  • Alas, Poor Villain: Despite killing him, Anakin can't help but feel sorry for him, in part because he's little more than a tool whose head Sidious filled with delusions of grandeur, and in part because in him is a reflection of what could have become of Anakin had he been swayed by the Dark Side. His death is even posited as a Mercy Kill as Palpatine is not a forgiving person and sparing Specter might have made things worse for him.
  • All for Nothing: His hunting Anakin down to gain the approval of Sidious. Not only does it lead to his death, but as Anakin notes, he never would have gotten the Emperor's approval no matter what he did.
  • Dual Wielding: He's a Jar'Kai specialist and wields twin lightsabers.
  • Sketchy Successor: After a fashion, as Specter, while a decent Sith in his own right, is not and never was Palpatine's main choice as a Sith apprentice after the fallout with Maul and Dooku's death, a fact that constantly reminds him and fuels his desire to get his master's approval. When Specter gets killed, Sidious is hardly surprised by it and has already been making preparations for a new apprentice, knowing how his need for approval would eventually get the better of him.
  • Smug Snake: Specter is a legitimately powerful Sith and feared assassin for Palpatine, but he overestimates himself and thinks he can take on Anakin Skywalker. The same Anakin who's fought dozens of battles throughout the Clone Wars and won, bested and killed Count Dooku, has greater strength in the Force than anyone else, and is a Master Swordsman of the highest caliber. Sure enough, he ends up on the losing end of their fight and he only manages a lucky (and devastating) hit thanks to a distraction that wasn't even his intent.
  • Unknown Rival: He's this to Anakin. He sees Anakin as a rival in his bid for Sidious' approval and seeks to kill him, while Anakin barely acknowledges the guy outside being a Sith Lord.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: He seeks his master's approval and will do whatever it takes to get it. It's presented as something of a Fatal Flaw since as Sidious correctly deduces, it leads to him getting killed. Even well after his death, Palpatine dismisses him as useless and little more than a tool.

    Infernalis

Darth Infernalis

The second apprentice of Sidious in his time as the Emperor. A large Mirialan who enjoys battle, he serves his master only to satisfy his lust for conflict and cares little for anything else.
  • At Least I Admit It: In his "Not So Different" Remark to Anakin, Infernalis claims that despite sharing many similarities, the difference between them is that he is willing to acknowledge and embrace his role as an attack dog and an enforcer for someone.
  • BFS: His lightsaber is more akin to a large sword since its size is several centimeters longer than the average lightsaber, likely to compensate for his strength and large height.
  • Blood Knight: He cares for nothing but the bloodshed being the Emperor's attack dog brings him. He has no ambitions whatsoever, only a thirst for battle.
  • The Brute: Serves as the personal attack dog of the Emperor, and his methods are blunt, direct, and ruthless.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: In Specter's introductory scene in Part II, Infernalis is indirectly mentioned as one of Palpatine's potential backup candidates as a Sith Apprentice in case if Specter cannot be kept for one reason or another.
  • Graceful Loser: He loses his final duel against Anakin and ultimately dies, but he dies with a smile on his face, having had a great final bout and managing to get the last hit in before succumbing to his wounds.
  • Smarter Than You Look: He's genuinely cunning and got the drop on Anakin by using his own planted explosives against him as well as through the Dun Moch technique, showing his intellect despite his brutish and unambitious nature.
  • Superior Successor: He was better than Specter in almost every way that mattered. Where as Sidious barely acknowledges Specter's death and considers it a minor setback at worst, he's genuinely frustrated when Anakin kills Infernalis.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He utilizes a less refined version of Form V and struggles with more finesse-capable fighters like Anakin, as seen in their first battle where he was left scrambling. He later improves enough to get over this and manages to hold his own against Anakin well in their final bout.

    Havac

Darth Havac

The Twi'lek apprentice of Palpatine during the events of Protectors.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: In Specter's introductory scene in Part II, Havac, like Infernalis, is indirectly mentioned as one of Palpatine's potential backup candidates as a Sith Apprentice in case if Specter cannot be kept for one reason or another.

Other Imperials

    Mara Jade

Mara Jade

A former Inquisitor trainee who is elevated to the rank of the Emperor's Hand, serving as Palpatine's personal assassin and Lavinia's companion.
  • Bodyguarding a Badass: One of her roles is serving as bodyguard and companion to Lavinia, who has similar if not greater Sith training than she does.
  • Evil Redhead: She's a redhead and she serves as the Emperor's Hand.

Other

    Yoda

Yoda

The Grandmaster of the fallen Jedi Order. He spends his days hiding on Dagobah, helping Obi-Wan and Anakin coordinate plans to fight against the Empire.
  • The Hermit: He lives away from the fight against the Empire by himself, though he does coordinate with Anakin and Obi-Wan every now and then to figure out what their next move is.
  • Old Master: Fits this like a glove seeing as he's almost 900 and was the master of the entire Jedi Order. Anakin and Obi-Wan still visit him to coordinate plans and seek advice from time-to-time as well.
  • Really 700 Years Old: He's around 900 years old by the time of the story.

    The Lars family

Owen and Beru Lars

Anakin's brother and sister in-law, who help him raise his daughter on Tatooine whenever he's not on missions to undermine the Emperor.
  • Ascended Extra: Beru gets more attention as Leia's upbringing is focused on and she serves as a source of advice for Anakin.
  • Out of Focus: While Beru gets plenty of attention and is often a confidant of Anakin's, Owen tends to be more in the background and barely gets any attention.
  • Stepford Smiler: Despite her sunny demeanor, Anakin senses an emptiness in Beru when she's holding Leia, signifying her desires to be a mother, yet unable to have children of her own.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Beru calls Anakin out on idiotically ignoring his own physical well-being so that Leia wouldn't be without her father for her birthday. While it's heartwarming on paper, potentially dying from carelessness on Leia's birthday of all days is a horrible thing to do.

    Leia

Leia Skywalker

The younger of the Skywalker twins and the daughter of Anakin and Padme. She lives on Tatooine with her Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen while her father is out on missions.
  • Adaptational Badass: She undergoes Jedi training here as early as childhood instead of later in her adult life.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Her last name is Skywalker rather than Organa since she's raised by Anakin instead of Bail.
  • Daddy's Girl: She absolutely adores her father and loves him with all her heart.
  • Deadpan Snarker: She can be pretty snarky at times, especially when it comes to her father.
Anakin: I know, it’s hard. Waiting is always the hardest part. For me, too.
Leia: (in complete deadpan) I hadn't noticed.
  • Faking the Dead: To help Luke's adoption story look real, Padmé has Sabe create a fake dead body using Leia's DNA samples to make it look like she and Anakin had no other children.
  • Hot-Blooded: She tends to be as temperamental as her father and she struggles to deal with her more aggressive impulses.
  • Nephewism: Unlike canon Luke, this is downplayed. While Anakin is around to actually look after her, it's much safer for Owen and Beru to take care of her during her developing years on a consistent basis as he is busy working with the Rebellion.

    Luke

Luke Naberrie

The eldest of the Skywalker twins and the son of Anakin and Padme. He is posed as Padme's adoptive child to protect his true identity from the Emperor.
  • Adaptation Name Change: His last name is Naberrie instead of Skywalker due to being raised by Padme and his identity as Anakin's son being kept hidden.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Luke has shades of this during Part 7, as while Sola's children and Leia were doing something with their respective lives, he has some insecurities about how he has yet to choose his career path despite all of them being relatively young.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Despite the potential risks, Luke is able to live within the Imperial political life about as freely as he can, with the only notable masquerade being his status as Padmé's "adopted" son.
  • Nice Guy: He's a very compassionate, kindhearted child. Anakin makes note of how bright and sunny he is while Leia acknowledges that he's much nicer than she tends to be. Even as he grows older, he never loses his gentle disposition.
  • Oblivious Adoption: Inverted and invoked, as since Padmé intends on keeping him, she needed to make sure that Luke on paper has no biological relation to her, as being a Force-Sensitive, especially one who is a child of Anakin, is in danger as long as Palpatine is in power. This ends up being dropped in Part 6 when Padmé reveals the truth to him.
  • Only Friend: He's this to Lavinia, as he's the sole person she truly, genuinely likes and cares for. As noted by Mara Jade, he's also currently the only sentient who can bring some emotion out of her.
  • Positive Friend Influence: Padme hopes that he'll be one to Lavinia so that she can eventually stave off her father's influence. It seems to have had enough of a positive effect that Lavinia refuses to sell out that he's a Force sensitive to her father, even if he knows she's lying.
