    The Tree of Life
The main characters, beings tasked with the vigil of the Tree of Life and the safeguard of Urralia, The Harbinger and The Witch. Also features Vera, The Godless-Priestess.

The Harbinger

The player character. A celestial agent sent from the Tree of Life when certain calamity is about to occur in an effort to stop it. This one is nascent and ignorant of the ways of Urralia, but is nevertheless charged with investigating the mystery of The Godless-Priestess' death that will lead to the end of the world.

  • Action Girl: Seemingly the case for every Harbinger.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After countless cycles of seeing the end of the world, The Harbinger can finally defeat the world-ending serpent. With enough perseverance, she can even see a future where none of the main cast has to die.
  • Heroic Mime: The Harbinger never speaks a word. Her only means of communication is displaying an omensight.
  • Immortality: The Harbinger's death simply brings them back to an earlier time to try again.
  • Lightning Bruiser: As her powers grow, The Harbinger can move around at blinding speed while cutting her foes to pieces.
  • Not in This for Your Revolution: The Harbinger can ally herself with the Imperial army in one cycle, and then join the Rodentian rebels the next. Her concern is only the fate of the world.
  • One-Hit Kill: Her Lethal Slash ability allows her to instantly kill a mob enemy when she has enough energy. As the ability grows stronger, she can even do this to multiple enemies at once.
  • Protagonist Without a Past: Nothing is known about The Harbinger's origins; where she is from, what she is, or how she even became what she is. The only things known is that she is not the first, and that they all seem to come from the Tree.
  • Seers: When visiting a place with a particular significance to fate, The Harbinger receives a vision of the past which she can then share with others.
  • Time Master: The Harbinger can manipulate time and fate to slow enemies, allowing her to seemingly move unfathomably fast to avoid attacks and overwhelm her opponents.
  • Unscrupulous Hero: The Harbinger can and will fight and kill anyone who stands in the way of her mission, even if they were an ally in another timeline.

The Witch

"There has to be a way to stop Voden. Find it!"

The Harbinger's partner in the investigation. She is an elderly woman who oversaw The Harbinger's appearance and tasked her with the investigation of The Godless Priestess' death and the world's salvation. She holds the power to bring The Harbinger back to The Tree. She is the last person to have spoken with Yarbog before he transformed into the Tree of Life. She now watches over it, awaiting Yarbog's return.

  • Connected All Along: As told in The First Memory, she is the guardian of Yarbog's resting place, having been chosen by him before he disappeared.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": She is only known by her moniker "Witch". Whatever her original name might have been is unknown.
  • Secret-Keeper: For Yarbog about his whereabouts.

The Godless-Priestess / Vera

"I have no regrets. None but one: Forgive me, Ludomir."

The current generation Godless-Priestess, an owl named Vera. She was orphaned as a child, and was then brought to live with her adoptive brother Ludomir. Finding her wayward soul and solving the mystery of her death is the crux of The Harbinger's investigation.

  • Evil All Along: Averted. Once The Harbinger discovers the third omensight, The Witch is shocked, wondering if Vera was in league with Voden and sought to bring about the end of the world. The truth is much more tragic.
  • Happily Adopted: After her parents died, she was adopted by Ludomir's family. The two were really close growing up. So much so that Ludomir was the only person who she taught her secret seal ritual.
  • Heroic BSoD: Seeing the cruelties and horrors of the war led to Vera breaking the vow of neutrality she swore as Godless-Priestess to risk summoning the serpent Voden in hopes it could stop it. It takes showing her the end result to snap her out of it.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Her ultimate fate if The Harbinger doesn't go back to Vera's last day to prevent her from summoning Voden.
  • Have You Seen My God?: Hence their title, The Godless-Priestesses serve a god that is no longer present, but their duty is no less important.
  • Reincarnation: What each Godless-Priestess becomes, thanks to The Witch. The immortal soul of The Godless Priestess is what keeps Voden at bay.
  • Secret Art: Vera created her own special seal.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She attempted to summon Voden thinking she could control it to stop the war between Pygaria and Rodentia. Suffice to say it did not end well.

The Tree of Life / Yarbog

A spectral blue tree from which The Harbinger emerged. It reflects the world of Urralia. As long as Urralia persists, so shall it. It is actually the dying, sleeping form of Yarbog.

  • Genius Loci
  • Have You Seen My God?: Yarbog is no longer present in Urralia due to his previous battle against Voden dealing him a mortal wound he is still recovering from a hundred years later.

    Pygaria
The important citizens of the Pygarian Empire, including General Draga and Emperor Indrik.

Draga

"I should have seen it... sooner."

The feline general of the Pygarian forces. She is a fierce warrior loyal to Emperor Indrik. Despite serving a tyrannical emperor, her acute mind and strong moral compass lends to a keen insight that will serve The Harbinger well in discovering the truth.

  • Action Girl: Draga is a trained warrior and a competent general.
  • Badass Bookworm: Admits to being an avid reader.
  • Blood Knight: As a child, Draga fell in love with the art of the sword after witnessing a soldier fight an intruder.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Her ability to read Ancient Pygarian turns out to be this. Taking Draga to the tomb of emperors to decipher the messages on the walls is the first big breakthrough in The Harbinger's investigation.
  • Cultured Badass: She knows how to read Ancient Pygarian.
  • Despair Event Horizon: If made to help The Harbinger kill Indrik, she will be despondent. Once the duo get to the vault where Kladen was kept, and which The Player by now will obviously know to be empty, Draga finally snaps. she concludes that The Harbinger is actually an agent of Voden himself, and she attacks.
  • Leitmotif: ''Pride of Pygaria'', a serious and imperialistic theme with an ominous wail.
  • Martial Pacifist: Despite her Blood Knight tendencies, Draga truly want what's best for the people of Urralia and will always strive to prevent as much bloodshed as possible.
  • My Greatest Failure: Draga once helped a prisoner she was fond of escape, and Indrik can chastise her for "enabling General Ellia's desertation", something Draga clearly holds a great deal of regret for.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: When shown evidence of potential wrong-doing from Indrik, she is quick to support The Harbinger's efforts to investigate. Despite her role and position, Draga consistently demonstrates kindness and wisdom and has no interest in needless bloodshed.
  • Sacred Flames: Draga's companion ability has her leap to The Harbinger's location and create a circle of sacred flames to burn enemies.

Emperor Indrik

"This is why I sought to perform the Rite of Ascension. The Firebird Ritual. To protect us."

The emperor of The Pygarian Empire. An arrogant and confident eagle, his ruthlessness and cruelty is what led to Rodentia declaring war and ultimately the emergence of Voden. Though a difficult person to get along with, as the most powerful person in Urralia he can aid The Harbinger’s efforts in ways no other can.

    Rodentia
The important citizens of Rodentia, Ratika and Ludomir, and other characters.

Ratika / Deathless

"I can't help but feel like I only know part of the plan."

A mouse who serves as the leader of the Rodentian forces. She channels her magic through music and song. She plans to use the Void to become Deathless in order to turn the tide in the war against Pygaria.

  • Accidental Murder: Ratika accidentally killed her brother when she discovered he was involved in a Pygarian conspiracy.
  • Action Girl
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: As Deathless, she wins the war and becomes ruler of Rodentia in the normal ending.
  • The Bard: How her magic works.
  • Break the Cutie: To say that life has not been kind to Ratika would be an understatement.
  • Bullet Hell: In one of her boss fights, Ratika can achieve this.
  • The Gadfly: She in particular likes to pick on Indrik.
  • Death of Personality: The end-result of becoming Deathless, sacrificing your emotions to become something greater. Deathless considers Ratika gone, though retains her memories.
  • Death Seeker: Ratika desperately wants out of the role she is forced to play, and combined with the guilt she feels for killing Vera she hopes that Ludomir will eventually kill her.
  • Genki Girl
  • Kill the Ones You Love: What Ratika ends up doing to Vera, although Vera survived the attempt.
  • Leitmotif: ''The Cage'', a song composed by Ratika herself! Its melody can also be heard in her Battle Theme Music and when selecting her as a companion.
  • Motor Mouth: She is by far the most talkative of the companions, often rambling about whatever she's thinking. This is especially the case when she's flustered.
  • Power Floats: How Deathless moves around.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: How Deathless usually speaks, though she can avert this.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Whatever Ratika wanted to ask Draga while she was dying in Draga’s tent bed, Voden chose that time to show up before she could utter it.
  • Sad Clown: Ratika is constantly cracking jokes and making witty remarks, but she harbors an overwhelming guilt and sadness underneath that facade.
  • Singing Voice Dissonance: Has a rich operetta-like tone while performing her song.
  • Sympathetic Murderer: The Harbinger learns from the second omensight that Ratika is Vera's killer, having attacked her in a bid to stop Vera from summoning Voden. However, it turns out that Vera survived the attack.
  • Teleport Spam: Ratika can do this at will using her balalaika.
  • Support Party Member: Her companion skill greatly increases The Harbinger's movement and attack speeds.
  • Trauma Conga Line: First she discovers a Pygarian cult which her brother is involved with, she breaks her promise to Vera by channeling the power of her balalaika with intent to harm, which results in catastrophic avalanche that she just barely managed to stop. The ensuing fallout still ends up killing her brother. Then she is lauded as a hero and made into the leader of the Rodential uprising against the Pygarian Empire despite never asking for any of it and while still processing the loss of her brother. Then she learns that her best friend Vera has seemingly gone mad and Ratika stabs her in a panic before running away, leaving Vera to bleed out in the vault.
  • Voice of the Legion: As Deathless, her voice gets this effect.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: In the Golden Ending, Ratika disappears to places unknown and is never heard from again.

Ludomir

"I will make things right, sister."

A big lug of a bear from Rodentia. He is friends with Ratika and fought alongside her during the war. He is also Vera's adoptive brother.

  • Blood Knight: A trait he shares with Draga.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: What he usually spends his time doing after the death of his sister.
  • Ironic Echo: After killing Ratika, Ludomir encounters several of her countrymen who are outraged about her death, and he tries to justify himself only to realize he sounded exactly like she did.
  • Knight Templar Big Brother: In the current timeline, his main concern is finding out who murdered Vera, and making anyone responsible pay.
  • Make It Look Like an Accident: How Ludomir likely meets his end in the normal ending.
  • My Greatest Failure: He blames himself for not being staying more in touch with Vera after she moved to Pygaria, thinking he might have prevented her death if he had.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: His preferred form of fighting. Not that you'd expect anything different from a bear.
  • Ground Pound: His companion ability, which allows him to knock enemies prone.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: When he learns who killed his sister Vera, nothing will prevent or stop him from going after the culprit until they are dead. When he learns Ratika seemingly is Vera's killer, he refuses to listen until Ratika is either killed or escapes.
  • Shock and Awe: When fought as a boss, Ludomir will occasionally wrap himself in electricity to ram into you, becoming invincible in the process.
  • Spanner in the Works:
    • If Ludomir had not found the sword Kladen and had hidden it, the members of the Voden cult would have been able to summon Voden even without Vera.
    • Additionally, his knowledge of Vera’s seal ritual is what enables The Harbinger to finally gain access to the knowledge she needs to put a stop to Voden’s emergence.
  • Secret-Keeper: The only one who knows how to undo Vera's seals, as he is the only one she ever taught how to do so.
  • The Nose Knows: Ludomir has a very keen sense of smell, able to track Indrik’s scent through Yarbog Temple and tell when it changes due to his ritual.
  • Unwitting Pawn: To Fyobor, Lokrin and the rest of the Voden cult.

Fyobor

A barkeep who has set up shop in Pygaria. Ludomir is a regular customer and friendly acquaintance of his.

  • Big Bad Friend: Fyobor calls Ludomir the closest thing to a friend, but is the leader of at least one branch of the Children of The Void cult, sending Ludomir as an assassin to kill Indrik or die trying.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: The friendly barkeep turns out to be the leader of the Voden cult situated in Pygaria.

    Voden

Voden

"I SEE YOU."

The main antagonist of Omensight. A massive serpent seeking to devour Urralia and unleash destruction on all that exists.

  • The Assimilator: Voden is said to he able to take the forms of those he has devoured. To fight The Harbinger, he manifests a dark version of one of her predecessors who he once swallowed. This ends up becoming critical toward sealing Voden away for good.
  • Big Bad: The ultimate threat The Harbinger is trying to prevent.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In every cycle where The Harbinger fails to stop its appearance.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Voden's seeming only goal is to devour Urralia.
