Ninja in training.
Debut: "The Merge: Part 1"
Voiced by: Deven Mack

A young kid who grew up wanting to be like the heroic Ninja he heard so many tales of. However, when The Merge happened, Arin found himself being rescued by the Ninja themselves... Only to end up alone by the end of the incident, with the Ninja and his parents nowhere to be found. After growing up in The Crossroads alongside his new best friend Sora, a chance encounter with the legendary Green Ninja Lloyd has put Arin on the path to becoming a Ninja, like he had dreamed of.

  • Accidental Discovery: He created a technique called Object Spinjitzu, which the user transfers it to an object when thrown without even knowing about it.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Goes from being a huge fan of the Ninja to getting to train to become one under Lloyd's mentorship.
  • Badass Normal: Zig-zagged. While being able to do Spinjitzu and Object Spinjitzu, he doesn’t have Elemental Powers like the other ninja. However, he is still able to fight well against enemies.
  • Bad Hair Day: It was mentioned he once tried to have Zane's hairstyle. It didn't go well.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To both Kai and Lloyd. Both were unwillingly dragged into the Ninja life by fate and spent quite a bit of time training due to having been non-combatants for most of their lives. Arin is a fan of the Ninja who not only gets to become one by choice but demonstrates latent talent due to having managed to self-teach himself Spinjitzu.
  • Conveniently an Orphan: His parents disappeared during the Merge, so he can live first with Sora and then join the Ninja without much problem.
  • Grappling-Hook Pistol: A common item that Arin uses, either to get around or in combat.
    • It's considered a pretty cool tool that Arin is complemented for more than once, so much so that Sora eventually makes versions for the other Ninja in Season 2. Unlike Arin's, the ones Sora make run off their users' Elemental Power (which has the unintended side effect of needling Arin's insecurity about not having an Element of his own).
  • Leeroy Jenkins: While not to the extent of Kai, patience is not his strong suit, much to Lloyd's exasperation.
  • Lethal Klutz: Arin isn’t exactly the most coordinated Ninja, and he can sometimes end up hurting others or even himself when he tries to throw a punch. The worst case of this happened during his training with Egalt, where his lack of aim while using Spinjitzu left the Dragon Master blind in one eye and earned Arin a swift Fang demotion.
  • Licked by the Dog:
    • In "The Merge: Part 2", only a few minutes after meeting and freeing him from Imperium custody, Riyu knocked Arin down and started to lick his face.
    • In "The Power Within", an actual dog licks Arin after being rescued.
    • In "The Blood Moon", Arin gets licked by Riyu, who was trying to go for a Geckle's Moss-Milk Ice Cone.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Sora.
  • Spectacular Spinning: He's apparently capable of using a peculiar variant of Spinjitzu despite not having anyone to have taught it to him. And even more bizarrely for the technique, he's capable of transferring Spinjitzu to objects he touches as well.
  • Sweet Baker: He makes pies with Snowberries from the Never-Realm. However, they're always in second place in pie contests.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: So far, he can only do Object Spinjitzu whenever his friends are in danger or harmed.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He somehow managed to teach himself Spinjitzu, which Lloyd says he thought was impossible, but he isn't very experienced with it, not having the tornado-style attack that the more experienced Ninja have, and he easily gets dizzy, often leaving himself open for follow-up attacks. However, the disadvantages of his version of the technique are made up with having the unique ability to apply Spinjitzu to thrown objects, the result of which is incredibly powerful, such as cutting through the Destiny's Bounty's engine or Beatrix's mech, which was established to be immune to Elemental Powers.
    • Season 2 deconstructs the reality of Arin having strength and power he cannot control. With the mounting pressure of the looming threat Ras poses, Arin's inability to pick up the Rising Dragon Technique, which leads him to injuring Egalt, weighs heavily on Arin's mind, not to mention a constant fear of inferiority due to a lack of an Elemental Power. The insecurities he already had during Season 1 only become amplified with the End of the World as We Know It pressures introduced in Season 2, especially when he ends up subject to a BRUTAL Curb-Stomp Battle by Ras' hands in the ninth episode. It's only after Sora secretly assists him in saving Nya by making it seem like he activated his obejct Spinjitzu in attacking Ras that he starts to perk up a good bit more, especially after Lloyd praises him for it.

    Sora

Mech Racer
Debut: "The Merge: Part 1"
Voiced by: Sabrina Pitre

A rather doubtful yet headstrong young girl, Sora had lived most of her life in the Imperium, having originally gone by the name of Ana. However, after discovering the dark true nature of Imperium, Sora took The Merge as an opportunity to escape her old life and start a new one, eventually running into Arin and becoming fast friends with him. When a chance encounter with Riyu and the Imperium occurs, Sora finds herself training with Lloyd alongside Arin to become a Ninja and also finds herself on the path to facing her old life in the Imperium...

  • Abusive Parents: While dialogue from Sora implied that her parents never really praised her, with them only doing so after she was praised for her work by the Imperium's science division, things took a turn for the worse after Sora stood up to Dr. LaRow's abuse of dragons. After the doctor called them for Sora's behavior, her parents promptly dismissed her fear of the Imperium's cruel activities, bluntly told her they were ashamed she was their daughter and effectively disowned her, started treating her more like a prisoner, and even took away her means of inventing, the one thing Sora found joy in within her old life, if she wasn't going to do anything of help for the Imperium. Even when they see that Beatrix was evil all along, they refuse to believe Sora.
  • Animal Motifs: Cats. Sora wears headsets that include cat ears and a symbol on the back of her suit. Her Facial Markings adds bonus points to emphasize her symbol.
  • Broken Pedestal: After having spent most of her childhood being inspired by Dr. LaRow's works, Sora was horrified to learn the true nature of the Imperium and Dr. LaRow with how they tortured dragons for their works, upset that she ever believed in someone willing to go to such dark lengths.
  • Character Development: She spends a lot of Season 1 doubting her own skills and luck, and is very sure that she doesn't have an Elemental Power (despite the many signs they are hers), believing Riyu is merely giving her his. Once she's confronted with Arrakore's similarly pessimistic outlook and realizes how unhelpful that worldview is, she starts to become more hopeful, and by the Season 1 finale, has accepted that her Elemental Power is in fact her own, and asks Riyu to stop augmenting her powers to try and make an effort to learn them.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: She's the series' inventor akin to Jay and Nya, but had parents who ended up neglecting her, rather than being kind like Jay's or largely absent like Kai and Nya's due to outside circumstances, and actively left when the chance arrived. Her powers are also heavily tied to technology, unlike Nya and Jay's.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her life in Imperium wasn't the best for Sora, as she has Abusive Parents who neglected her for her lack of interest until they did with her hard-light invention that qualified her as a 1st place winner and is able to meet Dr. LaRow and work for her. With Sora witnessing the abuse of dragons in the lab, however, her parents were very disappointed in her for standing up to the doctor for animal cruelty connected to Imperium, which costed everything she's highly passionate for. This was before The Merge that caused her to move into the Crossroads to start her new life, where she first met her best friend Arin.
  • Destroy the Villain's Weapon: Sora, achieving her True Potential, takes apart Beatrix's MergeQuake Weapon, which also destroyed the replicated dragon core.
  • Elemental Hair Colors: Her hair and element of Technology matches her Color Motif.
  • Facial Markings: Like many Imperians, Sora has markings on her face, in the shape of cat whiskers.
  • Fatal Flaw: Her lack of trust in herself and others aside from Arin and the Ninja due to her Dark and Troubled Past in Imperium.
  • For Happiness: As a child, she invented a perpetual hologram that created adorable holographic creatures, simply to try and make people happy. The Imperium had other ideas for the tech.
  • Hates Their Parent: Even after the Merge and exposing Beatrix's lies, her parents continue supporting her, leading to Sora disowning them and preferring the Ninja as her real family.
  • Heroism Motive Speech: As a last-minute act before Imperium turned against Beatrix, Sora does a broadcast about how she was despised, shunned, and disowned for discovering the truth. With the people now knowing the truth, Sora finishes her speech with, "We are all dragons!"
  • Meaningful Rename: Sora changed her name from Ana to escape her past of being shunned upon: Her Abusive Parents, the people of Imperium, Dr. LaRow, and Empress Beatrix.
  • Not a Morning Person: Of course, it might've helped if Lloyd didn't think training started at the crack of dawn, but apparently Sora is not one of nature's early risers anyway.
  • Platonic Life-Partners: With Arin.
  • Significant Name Overlap: After fleeing from her old life, Ana took up the name Sora after a dragon she found imprisoned by the Imperium, noting that she and the dragon were the same: Pawns that were used by the Imperium. Apparently, in older languages, "Sora" was the word the Imperium used to describe an orphan, and considering Ana fled from her family, the name fits her in that vein as well. Though thankfully for the others (in particular Nya) who get confused by the two having the same name, dragon Sora's name is revealed later on by Arrakore, Zanth.
  • Technopath: Sora apparently has the elemental power of Technology, but she finds herself unable to use this power herself at first, needing Riyu to bring it out for her. It isn't until the season one finale that she finally unlocks her true potential and is able to use her powers on her own.
  • What You Are in the Dark: She was the one who insisted she and Arin rescue Riyu when he was being chased by Imperium forces, even though it would mean giving up a race they were about to win which would've set them up for life, and just as importantly having no real means of fighting.
  • Wrench Wench: Takes up Nya's role as the one who fixes stuff, even without her powers. She quickly manages to get the new Destiny's Bounty up and flight-worthy in a few minutes.

    Wyldfyre

"I am danger."
Debut: "Mindless Beasts"
Voiced by: Kazumi Evans

A girl who grew up being raised by both a dragon, Heatwave, and a Caregiver bot and the Elemental Master of Heat. She and Heatwave would join the heroes after Lloyd freed them from imprisonment by the Imperium.

  • All There in the Manual: At first, her status as the Elemental Master of Heat was only known in supplementary material, not being mentioned in the show until a quarter through the second season.
  • Bear Hug: She practiced her hugs with Heatwave before eventually giving one to Kai.
  • The Berserker: Very much so. No matter what the situation is, attacking is pretty much her immediate instinct.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: She tends to roar like a dragon when it comes to a fight.
  • Character Development: She initially scoffs at the idea of being taught by Kai, but as Season 1 goes on, warms up to Kai and starts more actively trying to open up to being taught by him. She also seems to be trying to work past her worst habits after being on the other side of them (such as being subject to a mean prank by the Lava-Tides, who did it to get even with likely years of vandalism, and consequently refuse to help the Ninja as a result).
  • Comfort Food: She makes a stew to ease Egalt's pain of the Wasting Sickness.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: To Kai. Both are the hotheaded members of their generation of the Ninja, but whereas Kai grew up with a human family and close to civilization, Wyldfyre was raised by a dragon and has little to no understanding of social norms, which causes issues due to things such as her idea of what a practical joke is.
  • Dramatic Irony: The characters talk about how Wyldfyre has the same Fire powers as Kai. Even though supplementary material reveals that her power is actually Heat, with it being until the fifth episode of Season 2 that they actually learn this.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Kai, literally.
  • I Can Still Fight!: She ends up with a broken leg and insists that she can do well, despite being provided a crutch by Rontu, until she eventually healed.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: She is just as, if not even more, impulsive than Kai is.
  • Licked by the Dog: More like a dragon. Heatwave licked her from behind to surprise her in "The Administration".
  • The Lad-ette: To be fair, you’d be too if you were raised by dragons.
  • Nature Tinkling: Having been raised by Heatwave, Wyldfyre prefers to do her nature calling wherever.
  • Never Learned to Read: Since she grew up in the Wyldness without books, Wyldfyre read Imperium's map upside-down, which led to her and Kai burning a shoulder pad storage facility, instead of the armory.
  • Playing with Fire: Wyldfyre is capable of manipulating flames much like Kai can, acquiring these powers after The Merge.
  • The Prankster: Wyldfyre likes to play pranks, especially her fire handshake prank. However, many of these ended up as a case of Prank Gone Too Far as many of these pranks would heavily upset those she targeted, giving her a very bad reputation across a couple of lands. Kai has to point out that her pranks are just flat-out bullying with how they always end up hurting people.
  • Raised by Wolves: Or rather Raised by Dragons, with Heatwave having looked after her ever since she was a baby, having been in some sort of ship crash with a Caregiver bot protecting her prior to meeting the dragon, with no sign of her parents around. This actually comes to help in Season 2 when her own culture from being raised by dragons, in particular fairytales of the legendary Dragon Masters, helps her connect with the cynical Egalt when he's been constantly irritated by the other Ninja.
  • Slept Through the Apocalypse: She was asleep when the Merge happened, and didn't even stir.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: Wyldfyre managed to calm an aggressive Heatwave down with light growls upon being freed by her and Lloyd. She tried to do the same to Egalt the first time they met.
  • This Explains So Much: Pretty much Wyldfyre's response to Rontu telling her that her element is Heat, not Fire.
"Ohhh~. That explains a lot, actually. Like, a lot a lot."
  • Unskilled, but Strong: She's almost completely reliant upon her Elemental Powers to fight, and has no formal combat training, preferring largely to haphazardly throw fire around at her opponents. This works against her in "They Call It Doom", as the Lava-tide leader finds out she can eat Wyldfire's flames and grow bigger, leaving Wyldfire completely unable to fight her.

    Riyu

The spark.
Click here to him as a teen
Debut: "The Merge: Part 1"
Voiced by: Brian Drummond

A young dragon who had been captured by the Claws of the Imperium, Riyu barely managed to escape from their clutches long enough for Arin and Sora to spot the incident and give pursuit. And after discovering that Riyu was capable of bringing out an elemental power in Sora, as well as his herd fleeing to make a new home after being found out by the Claws of the Imperium, Riyu tagged along with Arin and Sora in their tutelage with Lloyd in their quest to stop the Imperium.

  • All Animals Are Dogs: He's fond of playing fetch with one of Jay's old nunchucks.
  • Badass Adorable: Just an adorable-looking dragon... who managed to punch his way out of the Imperium's cell on his own.
  • I Choose to Stay: When his herd leaves their home to find a new one after being found by the Imperium, Riyu decides to stay with Arin and Sora.
  • I Got Bigger: Riyu is shown to have aged to his teenage years in "The Blood Moon", helping a young girl escape a burning building, helping Kai and Wyldfyre with trying to get Fugi-Dove and a cat out of a tree, and later dancing with the rookie ninja.
  • Mistaken for Dog: Called a 'weird little dog' by Arin's rival chef, Grab-Barg, after being disguised as one.
  • Pet Dress-Up: Using Lloyd's meditation carpet, a basket, and a pair of socks for the Crossroads Carnival.
  • Super-Empowering: Riyu's species is capable of drastically amplifying the elemental power in a target, with Riyu, in particular, bringing out Sora's Technopath element.
  • Teach Me How To Fight: Shown in Season 2, Riyu is taken under fellow dragon Rontu's wing to learn Spinjitzu.
  • Team Pet: Pretty much serves this role in the team as a dragon.
  • The Unintelligible: Fully grown Source Dragons can speak with humans, but Riyu cannot.
  • Wings Do Nothing:
    • As a baby, Riyu couldn't fly so high when he tried to escape the Claw of Imperium the first time.
    • He still struggled, until "Secrets of the Wyldness".
